So funny .. How did I miss this? … This vid is exactly what I asked for in the comments of your next video. .. So … You had already given me what I was asking for, before I even asked for it. … That was fast!

hi, thanks so much for this. at 5:17 you say “ or you can use it as a speed phrase”, when you do that are still using the pull-off or are you picking every note?
any tips on how to gain speed with this? again, thank you so much. i greatly enjoy your videos.

Hey man! Yes, definitely still using a pull off when utilising it as a speed phrase. My advice when trying to build up speed is always the same: start out really, really slow and make sure your right hand is "programmed" with the right picking directions and use as little movement as possible to begin with. With your left hand (again, start out slow) try to match the dynamic of your pull offs with your picked notes - this might be making your pull offs stronger OR making your picking a little lighter. Focus on even dynamics and timing. Spend a while making it sound as good as you can while playing it slowly - focus on the quality of each note rather than the speed. Once all that stuff feels totally automatic and you're not having to think about it... then start to speed it up. Make sure your movements don't start getting bigger as you speed up, stay relaxed and try not to physc yourself out mentally. If you tell yourself what you're doing is hard, you'll tense up! Hope that helps!

Great lesson. What gear are using, clean amp and tubescreamer?

I wish, man! I don't have my amps here at the moment. This was my Kemper on a Friedman Dirty Shirley profile. Glad you enjoyed the lesson!

Landau's solo on Venus's Daughter is like SRV on steroids.
