    I really appreciate that the coaching us focused and clear, and you also trust people to tailor it to their ability level. I've had bad experiences with martial arts etc where the coach would expect the exact same from everyone and not make any allowance for different experience it body type

    I love that you are emphasizing the need to continue to work on the basics/fundamentals of volleyball no matter what level you play at. I coach u18 girls and as much as I LOVE teaching them new and exciting things, they sometimes forget that the basics are extremely important as well!
    Ps: I love that you said that hitting was everyone’s least favourite thing to do at the end 😂😂. To be honest, I’m a libero and I don’t enjoy hitting that much (maybe because it shows just how short I really am and wrecks my confidence lol)

    I disagree with passing with only arm motions. You could not expect a regular nonathletic player to master passing skill only with their arms, they could never master it. They need to learn to use both. I have been playing and coaching for 36 years.

      What do you think about passing from the left side most of the time, passing over your right leg?

    • @lordelohim3327
      @lordelohim3327 Рік тому +8

      @@HerveMaas I suggest going from one step from the line, so you can focus on moving to the right most of the time instead of worrying about moving to either sides. Face your body toward your setter's base location instead of the hitter's location. Keep your left leg in front so you are always naturally facing right.

    • @OnchiBon
      @OnchiBon Рік тому +11

      I agree, but I believe what Coach is saying is that just because you were taught that you should pass with your legs, you shouldn't stop yourself from passing with arm motions as well. I'm very new to coaching and relatively new to playing compared to you but I believe that it's good to teach children to pass with their legs when they are beginners because in my opinion and experience, to them, passing with only arm motions becomes a crutch to not use their legs at all. So it's better to teach them to not pass with arm motions but with their legs and later on when they're more advanced, tell them "Sike! You can pass with your arms too" but then their general understanding of passing footwork and arm positioning is already good enough so they won't dismiss passing with their legs and use the both of them accordingly.

    • @zackd2852
      @zackd2852 Рік тому +3

      It's both. You can pass with legs and arms. You can't take one out. Coach is right. You're also right. There isn't a right or wrong answer. Just preferences. But honestly, passing really is up to the individual. Mistakes are bound to happen. Forms and habits are key. Also, "playing and coaching for 36 years" don't make whatever you're saying legit either. You don't really have to flaunt your credentials and resume' to back up what you're saying. LOL.

      @@zackd2852 Speaking from experience. There are many out there that can talk volleyball but not execute on court. I focus on making regular players play like a pro, every little bit of body movement counts to make to great pass.

    He get so many things correct and or almost correct and then he also doesn’t do what he says is important. To start with he should start by doing a simple 30 second dominate eye test. Then you will know how to tweak things so the athlete can actually see the ball, and other things, accurately. He said to use a stagger when passing. This is correct, but other than the few times he demos the stagger, he never uses a stagger again! When he talks about movement to pass he is almost always talking about side it side movement, he never talks about the moving forward or backward. Where do most players get beat, well statistics will tell you moving forward or backward is just over 56% of the time so less than 40% of the time movement is his main focus is on. This forward movement comes from a stagger just like he said, but he didn’t train and remind his campers to pass that way throughout the session. The girl in full black clothes does the stagger correctly. He said balance in the beginning and the end of movements. Exactly correct. He doesn’t practice what he preaches and this was noticed in his pre-start for hitting and at the point of the pass. He just uses his natural exceptionally good inner balance to make up the difference. Many players don’t have that.He hasn’t mentioned hip rotation when hitting, leading with the elbow (he does this in his swing), and he doesn’t say how hip rotation would help with his landing and demo what a good landing looks like. I am constantly asked where to find good, complete videos of volleyball skills this guy gets a lot of things right. With the adjustments I have listed, these would be excellent.

    I don't agree with you at all about not teaching to use legs when low pass. As you have said, you are talking about HIGH level. Do you think that anyone will ever play at "high level"? I think that it is wrong to teach low pass in that way only because professional athletes do that. People who are learning volleyball should absolutely try to use legs, because it helps you learning the technique, once learned the technique, one can find your variations. You are also talking about men's volleyball, in which athletes are more likely to do jump spin serve rather than float serve like in woman's volleyball.
    Low passing a spin served ball it looks like a defense, where you don't really need your legs. But when it comes to float serve using legs is definitely important. Where I live, (Italy) I've always heard a lot of trainers saying this, this is not my personal opinion, as you said you were also taught to do that, is just how it works.
