This is interesting to have a video make you explain your love of FOLK MUSIC ALL AROUND THE WORLD.... and it be BLOCKED in most of the world.... REALLY?!?
@@Ineluki_Myonrashi lucky for you guys.... its is blocked across Europe hell its not blocked in the USA but is blocked in Puerto Rico a territory OF THE UNITED STATES?!? explain it to me?
The instrument is called a TaglHarpa. The rough sound you refer to might be because the strings are horse hair instead of nylon strings used on most violins. Einar is extremely talented and i would love to see more of him on the channel.
So late to this game😢. Love your reactions! Especially happy to have found you doing Wardruna! I see a fleur de lis in your logo. Saints fan, perhaps? I'm from just South of Baton Rouge. Coonass from the Bayou, baby! Anyway, it was Sleep Token that initially drew me in, but I'm here for everything else! Thanks for the great reactions!
Kvitravn is Einars stage name from Gorgoroth. The instrument is a Nordic instrument called tegelharp. It rough sound is pretty close to the norwegian national instrument - the Hardanger fiddle. An eight or nine stringed violin 🎻
@oldskulenerd Some one may have mentioned it earlier but one of the guys in wardruna made the music for Assassins creed valhalla togheter whit the guy that made the music for the tv series Vikings.
Wardruna is legit. They do culturally correct instruments and styles. I think they did the opening theme song to the History show Vikings, and the main guy worked with the video game designers for Assassin's Creed: Valhalla to get the music right. Such a great group.
IIRC we don't exactly know what norse music sounded like, but we know of the instrument we had. So basically any "norse" music we have is an educated guess. Still cool as hell though
it is funny that you said you had never seen a white raven because in Iceland we have a saying that goes, ''sjaldséðir eru hvítir hrafnar'' (Rough English translation, it's rare to see white ravens) and you would use that for a person you haven't seen for awhile.
Wardruna's songs always give me an unimaginable energy. I listened to Kvitravn right before a big interview; I was nervous, almost shaking; started the interview after listening to this masterpiece, passed it with no effort. Fun fact: Einar's nickname while playing drums for Gorgoroth was "Kvitravn- the white Raven"
His instrument is called a Tagelharpa and it's a Nordic instrument from the viking age. I'ts named after the Word Tagel which means Horse hair from which the strings are made.
Einar Selvik spends much time in the nature, finding inspiration, recording sounds and videos. This one they recorded in Russia. The white ravens are very rare, but this one suddenly appeared when they started to shoot the film. And,mind you,KVITRAVN (White Raven) is Einar's spiritual name. Naturally, both the band and the filmcrew were awestruck! Einar SO deserved this,he is really an awesome guy,and gives so much of himself in his musical project... And you,Mr.,had a really insightsful reaction here, glad you got a kick out of Wardruna - you can look forward to five amazing records! As next song,I recommend LYFJABERG,another new song that comes with a wonderful video from nature. Thanks for listening,bye-bye! 😁
No this is definitely a trained Raven. Meeting a Leucistic raven in the wild at a shoot for a song called white raven is like winning the lottery 10 times in a row.
Einar has also made music for "Vikings" (the show) and more recently the soundtrack for "Assassin's Creed Valhalla". Also I was lucky enough to experience Wardruna's live performance with Aurora in Bergen (I live one hour away), the one "every" YT reactor have done for the past few years. :p Truly a memory I will never forget, it was such a magical night!
Thanks so much for doing Kvitravn. The W in Wardruna is pronounced as a V. Einar Selvik used to be drummer for death metal band Gorgoroth. Since you liked this one check out their song Helvegan live with Aurora. The other great folk band to check-out is Heilung LIFA Krigsgaldr the live video was their first public performance and it was perfect.
Odin has two ravens that aid him in watching over earth.Huginn (thought) and Muninn (memory). There's a myth that says that at first they were white as the snow (a sign of purity) but at some point the Allfather asked them to see into people's souls and that's how they turned black as the night.
Very well said, it's definitely Hypnotic, you should try Wardruna - Healing mountain, it's even better in my opinion. Lucky I'm in Aus, I have no idea why anything like this would be geo blocked... Thanks OldSkule :-) These folk songs are almost spiritual in nature and hit inside.
White ravens are ultra rare. They get kicked out by their family of ravens cus of their lack of colour. So they have to survive alone in the wilds and that is really hard for them to do alone. So if you see white raven, you sure are lucky as hell. By the way raven in Viking mythology is seen as a wise messenger and often think of as protector, helper.
Only rule if u visit Scandinavia , never tell us there is only one god that made u exist, that will make Tor, oden ,frej and freja angry and it will make us angry And yes is a nordic instrument , a old swedish instrument that has been in scandinavia for centuries even at the time of the vikings
"comforting - hypnotic - unsettling" you just explained our existence on this earth/in this universe. everybody knows this but don't really want to say it and hypnotize themselves with the ego.
Hey OldSkule..Check out Songleikr..... Maria Franz and Christopher Juul also of Heilung doing Norwegian Folk music. I recommend the song Ulvetime (Hour of the Wolf). But yes also check out Heilung
Eluvietie swiss folk metal, Faun German Folk, idk what else you've done. Skald I like some of, Danheim etc if you like this style. This is the first of your reactions I watched but I love this song.
Another band in the same vein as Wardruna is Skáld; they are a band that was made to emulate the Viking poets and their poetry. I recommend their song Rún as a good primer as it is similar to White Raven which you seemed to like, but it's more reliant on the drum as the core of it's music.
Ok next step is over to the Færoe islands and check out Eivør. She's done a bit of everything. Personally I like her Folktronic stuff but she has the most incredible voice. For both extremes you should try Trodlabundin and Falling free live at the old theatre Thorshavn. You'll thank me lol
I get goosebumps every time by this song. The instrument Einar plays here are a "Moraharpa" one of the oldest versions of harps in scandinavia. For me Wardruna (Ward-runa) is much like Heilung is a kind of music that speaks to my spirit for lack of better words. Call it magic or such but i think you either feel it or you dont. Some people dont have that connection. I get both focused and relaxed by this kind of music. Folk metal aint heavy metal so its not always an easy step for some people to like both genres. I do however. I often mix Manowar for example with folkmetal on my lists :). The lyrics of this song is basically about finding and following a spirit animal in this case White raven and sore on the winds. Its a Sami inspired song. Samis are indigenous people of Scandinavia who existed there before the germanic tribes settled there and became the dominant power. Samis had a shamanistic religion and although its probably not practised as much today they still have it inbedded in their culture. There still exist "wise women" :).
Wardruna is making music from the viking age. They have made songs based on many of the writings and verses from that era. Einar Selvig, the singer and songwriter, has made alot of the music for the tv-series Vikings and also did a song for the latest Assassins Creed game Valhalla. He is a Viking, thats why he has the viking beard. No one else in Norway has a beard like that, so im wondering where you have seen all these other Scandinavian people looking like this :)
the instrument is called a tagelharpa or talharpa (tail harp so called because they use horsetail hair to string the instrument) there is a similar instrument from my country (Wales) called a Crwth, which Wardruna also used on their most recent album Kvitravn
This is the most heart felt song I've ever heard! The Kvit part is like a "vit" then ravn part is like "Rawven" the name of the group "ward" "roonuh" "woredroonah" Wardruna... I'm new to your channel, but if you like this song-check out Solringen, Helvegen, Skugge and Lyfjberg... they are incredible... also the group Danhim is amazing!!!
Glad you enjoyed this, folk music is amazing. Einar is known for singing with despair and having a texture to his voice that makes it sounds like it's from the past. Einar also was the composer for the TV show Vikings. He looks like Ragnar, HAHA but didn't see Jax from SoA until you said it. Try either Gra, Lyjaberg, Raido by Wardruna. Those all have videos and are beautiful. I love Einar and his music with Wardruna. Found them not too long ago but can't live without it now. Do you take donations for requests? Just to make sure they get reacted to? :)

It's a really good song imo, been listening to some of their music. The woman making the sound effects is at her best in this one, in some others she takes a bit more to get used to imo. Like how it was with old Nightwish where it took some getting used to the more opera like sound of many of their songs
How about a band nobody has reacted to yet that uses traditional instruments in their music. The group A Tergo Lupi, either Red Sun or Black Feathers for the song. And I believe the stringed instrument Wardruna is using is the Tagalharpa, same as A Tergo Lupi.
Pro Tip: if you hit the CC button, it'll usually translate for you. It's especially helpful if you do "Healing Mountain" by them. Some deep lyrics there. Also, the music isn't "unsettling", that's just your primal blood flowing again!

Comforting, Hypnotic and unsettling. That describes the Norwegian landscape.
