I've travelled with EVA multiple times in Economy and Premium Economy, and always enjoyed my flights. The product is very good, and the crew are hard to fault.
@@carmenkovacs Only 1 piece of hand carry in Economy, but the Crew are usually very good, as long as its not a massive hiking backpack. Worst thing they can do is ask you to put it in the Hold, it'll go with the pushchairs etc so will be waiting by the door as you come out of the Aircraft onto the air bridge. for example, I check in my bags and have another smaller sports bag packed into my hand carry for duty free. They never say anything when I board carrying 2 bags.
I think my first EVA flight was on that one too; & in fact it was one of the rare Combi 747s too! fun fact: Evergreen deluxe was industry’s first “premium economy” offering.
As far as my experience flying long haul with American, Canadian, European, and Asian airlines, nothing can beat Asian airlines in the quality, the amount of food and the efficiency of service. not just European airlines that serve a piece of bread for their breakfast, Air Canada too, I was very disappointed with Air Canada’s service and food. I love flying EVA, ANA, Cathay Pacific, JAL, PAL, Korean Air, Asiana, food and service are excellent! Thanks for this video❤
This intro was fantastic! It’s a great example of how you keep adding interesting new content to your videos, and is one of the main reasons why I’ve continued watching this channel longer than any other that does trip reports
Economy class of this EVA Air B787-10 is surprisingly good! I guess flying 10 hours to Bangkok wasn’t that tiring. Would be nice to see a tripreport about EVA Air business class in the future! Thanks to Simply Aviation and personally to David for another wonderful video 👍
Twice actually! :) Here's the video about Business Class on EVA Air's Boeing 777-300ER: ua-cam.com/video/2nv6Bekxy48/v-deo.html And here about their Boeing 787-9: ua-cam.com/video/qQ6r0g-FwdQ/v-deo.html
I just flew EVA again on their 787-9 / 787-10 / 77W all with 9-abreast Y. Pick the 77W it's the champ when it comes to personal space for both seat pitch and seat width. It trumps the 787s any day.
Thanks David for an informative video. I sampled EVA Air in 1992 when it routed LGW-VIE-BKK with B747-400. I was lucky to be booed in premium economy which at that time was in zone A and J class when I returned home and that was on the 747's upper deck. However the reason for EVA Air operating to TPE via BKK was nothing to do with aircraft range. It was simply because *at that time* Taiwanese airlines were not permitted to overfly mainland China for obvious reasons. I mean other European carriers would fly to HKG non-stop with the B747-400 as they could overfly mainland China. TPE is just a few hundred miles further than HKG. Even today EVA Air routes LON-TPE via BKK. It finds it can attract many UK leisure travellers for the LON-BKK sector and it also offers keen fares. From London it only faces non-stop competition from TG as BA continues to suspend its BKK service.
You are right. Could not overfly Mainland China, and their original B767s and eventually 744s could not make it to Europe non-stop. Similarly China Airlines' (Not Air China!!!) flight to FCO used to stop in the Middle East for the same reason. Also everyone calls them "Eva Air" so don't worry about it :)
Yes and thank you. It could be that when David spoke with Eva Air it did not tell him the full story. From my own experience dealing with Eva Air in London in the 1990s the staff were not forthcoming about such matters. Later of course these Taiwanese airlines did gain China overflying rights. But I do not know what the current situation is as both nations have become hostile to one another.
From my very first EVA flight from Singapore to USA via Taipei years years ago to my regional Singapore to Taipei flights EVA never fails to be a good airline despite me being a Singaporean and of course our airline Singapore Airlines... I still fly them because they are also cheaper and at times even better!
I love EVA flew them back in 2015 LAX-TPE-LAX in business. I felt like every time I was served it was a different flight attendant. Everything about the flight was super pleasant. One note about the veggie option, I am actually for their approach. If anyone has special meal needs, I’d rather they arrange for it during booking than me being the one having to settle with a veggie option because the other options run out. It happens a lot and most of the veggie meals I end up not liking.
You should do project sunrise (London-Sydney, NY/Newark-Sydney) when it comes out. The fruits of that trip report will be insurmountable. Imagine the views!
eva air is my go to airline when going back home to manila from san francisco. i love flying with them because they offered low fares (pre pandemic), their lay overs on both flights are relatively short (2 hours going to manila and 5 hours going back to san francisco), the flight to manila leaves sfo at around past midnight and arrives in taipei at 8-ish in the morning, and the fact that the flight from taipei to manila is only an hour away. all of my flights with them have been with the 777. haven't flown with them recently so haven't had a chance to ride their 787.
EVA looks like they provide kind of "old fashioned" early 21st Century style service but with obviously modern elements like good IFE. But surprised not to see a Premium Economy cabin considering EVA Air I believe more or less invented PE. Also, Im no film critic but I feel you guys trip reports are getting better and better, very smooth and professionally done. Enjoyed this one a lot!
I totally agree, also not sure about why there's no PE product on the aircraft. It's a shame really, as the PE product is very good indeed, although prices are now higher for it.
My first time watching ypur channel . Congratulations very objective view of service , equipment and airline. That's what we want . I 've just missed in the review some comments about drinks, wines, beers and possible after meal licour like a Baileys , which I love on my flights.
On seat selection cost, it really depends on the class of economy you choose from. I just booked a BR flight and it included free seat selection on "regular" economy seats. Exit row and front part of the economy cabin still cost extras. But then, it's the mid-tier fare and not the cheapest one to choose from.
I loved Eva Air and their premium economy product. I fly the BKK-LHR route 3 times a year. Too bad that in 2023 they increased their fares for premium economy. £2000+ for return premium economy. At that price point I might as well pay little more and fly business class. It used to be £1500 for return. I am thinking of switching over to Lufthansa/Swiss/Austrian premium economy as it is much cheaper.
Really nice review and kinda useful to me since my normal flight from Taipei to Paris in a month got rescheduled so now I will probably use this connection via Bangkok and Vienna. Looking forward to more Brutally Honest episodes!
Thanks for this. I'm flying Bangkok to London next week - my first flight in three years - and it's great to get a picture of what to expect. It looks like there are no covid restrictions too, which is nice.
I love your editing skills - the video is not too cramped , good voice over and how you pan the camera is not too fast that makes it annoying. I love eva air and looking forward for my flight my kiddo this september! Thank you
I've also fown EVA Air in Sept 2022 from YVR to BKK via TPE, and I pretty much agree with your assessment. Its economy class product is first rate. Great seats, tasty meals, and attentive crew. Even a short 3 hour flight between TPE and BKK includes a full hot meal. The only thing I'll nitpick is the limited selections of movies and tv shows from the IFE. Because of my itinerary, I got to experience their B789, as well as both configurations of their B77W. Their economy class have 9 or 10 seats per row depending on the plane. The 10 seats variant is a bit cramped and it would suck flying long haul in it. I personally prefer the 787 simply because the plane is newer and the seats are slightly better. Too bad they don't offer premium economy on their dreamliners. As for the advance seat selection, it's free for the more expensive booking class. For the cheaper booking classes, there are charges but it varies depending on which seat you take. Generally, the more forward the seat is in the cabin, the more expensive it'll be.
Thanks for the insight on how life is like on EVA Air from Europe to Bangkok. When you mentioned that your dinner could easily equal to a premium economy class meal, I really felt that SQ should be serving a different menu in PEY and not the same one in both PEY and EY. Nonetheless, EVA’s service is very nice and courteous unlike most Western carriers.
This flight looks better than the SIA flight I just took. I was on SQ 35 nonstop from LAX to SIN. It was 16 hours of bad and bad. Economy seat, not impressive choices on IFE and the food was small and average. Two small meals(smaller than the EVA meal you just showed). No pre-meal service and the snacks were Kit Kat candy, some crackers and if you were lucky a banana. After 10 years of loyalty I will now fly with ANA or EVA. ANA has a big sale ongoing and a roundtrip from Bangkok to LAX with a stop in NRT is now $760. Thanks for the detailed review.
EVA is absolutely fantastic! Flown wih them a couple of times, definitely among the good Asian carriers such as Cathay Pacific, SIngapore Airlines, etc.
@13:04 Did not expect Filipino-branded crackers in a Taiwanese airline. But anyway, great Tripreport as always! Hoping you could fly again with Cebu Pacific in their new, more jampacked A330-900 (459 on the NEOs vs. 436 on the CEOs).
I've travelled with EVA back in March 2019 from Vienna to Taipei and back in there 777 business class. even though it wasn't the brand new 787 cabin it was one of best travel experiences I've ever had. really enjoyed it and i hope i can experience there dreamliner soon
Love the tip to use the blanket bag to tidy up and make the cleaner job easier! Nice flight review too, I'll definitely consider EVA for my next long haul trip to North America.
Evergreen used to have an air charter arm, called Evergreen Airlines. I flew in an Everygreen Airlines L1011 from Misawa Air Base to St. Louis, as part of the "Freedom Bird" to my first stateside assignment.
yes, I think Thailand and Taiwan have Air Service Agreement, to exchange each designated airlines can carry passengers on 5th freedom traffic right route, point beyond, and now more Thai choice EVA Airlines for their travels as well as EVA Airline also have Thai Crew operating onboard aircraft
Great video. Thank you very much. We are heading to travel again to Bangkok next spring time in 2023 and we consider to fly with EVA from Vienna. Now it s on our list for the favourite airlines👍🙏
Hello David! After watching few episodes of new and updated BH series, have to say you came a long way in improving the video content from simple trip reports. Always making a level up and bringing the channel forward. Yet I have to say - I miss the expectations from BH videos. That made you different vs other air bloggers - it does not have to be viewers expectations, but at least yours. I think it would be still adding to the content.
I once flew them in Business to our honeymoon to Bali via Taipeh... With a free overnight stay provided by EVA as the connection flight only left one day later... The long haul service was via BKK on an A330... The service was top notch and I would love to fly them again
We did fly from Vancouver to Taiwan on EVA air2018 seat wear tight then . I am a small person and economy was tight. Taipan to Bangkok was heavenly like 1.class. I would take them again but use Economy plus.
Hi, loved the video! There is this fairly new Taiwanese carrier called Starlux and it would be nice for you to review them! I think they operate a321s and a330s but I heard some a350s are gonna join their fleet soon! It’ll be interesting to see how they will fair with a rough launch time and competing with 3 very good Taiwan based airlines. Cheers!
I booked EVA Air flights just a few days ago. Flying from Munich with them. The TPE-MUC flight is scheduled with 15 hours flight time, not sure how to survive that 😅🫣
Recently flew from London to BKK, I totally concur with the review. Very clean and motivated cabin crew. According to my Taiwanese mate, EVA air screens and only hires pretty Cabin crew members ……
In 2014 we flew Econ on an intra Asia. flight. They had a platoon of great flight attendants. The number of flight attendants makes a big difference. The food was great. Still remember the flight.
Great video David! The Taiwanese airlines EVA Air and China Airlines, definitely do a great job! The China Airlines A350 in Premium Economy from London to Sydney (via Taipei), was my favourite flight ever! How come Vienna is so popular with flights to Taiwan, both China Airlines and EVA Air fly there! They both fly more frequency than from London or any other European airport, I think. Also never knew the 787-10 had the legs to fly non-stop from Asia to Europe! Looked a great flight.
Vienna serves as the gateway to Central/Eastern European cities for Taiwanese partially due to historical political limitations. Austria has been relatively friendly to Taiwan when it comes to flight rights, offering more quotas per week with 5th freedom right(You need both Thailand and Austria to agree the right). Paris for example is not served via BKK not because EVA air doesn't want to operate as such, but rather because France has been notoriously protective towards its national carriers and only allows limited flights per week between the two countries (and one carrier from each country only) and does not grant 5th freedom right.
Your VDO is full of accurate information. I worked with EVA as FA in 2008. OZ and QR now. Whatever you say in the clip is sincerely true. Keep it up for this genuine reviews. Good for consumers!
As always, a great video David. Eva air is great. However, the seat does look similar to the Gulf air economy seat on the 787, pls give your opinion on the seats. All the best for your future endeavours. Pls also make a long haul tripreport on Singapore airlines Boeing 787 in Economy and business class. I always prefer Brutally Honest videos over tripreports as you use voice-overs and most of all, you are interactive on your video screen P.S. How do you create the Brutally honest intro? P.S. I hope you found your camera
Hi! I have a question. Is there any reason why Austrian Airlines doesn’t offer flights between Singapore and Austria? I would honestly love a direct 12 hour flight from SG to Vienna without having to transit in the Middle East, Germany or Switzerland. Really hoping for it one day!
We are flying Eva air to fly from Seattle to Beijing to visit family members. We wanted to learn about the 787-10 we were scheduled to fly on. This is such a helpful video. Another plane scheduled there is the a330.
My mother flew EVA Air from Taipei to LA before COVID. The vegetarian food was the best there - would encourage all to try. And as you have stated in your thumbnail, everything done right!
Flying with EVA in December! YYZ - TPE. Looking forward to it already! This will be my third flight with them on the same route. Flying with B 777ER though.
Thanks for your information. I have an economy flight booked for me for the fall and I was worried that I would be hemmed in like a sardine. This eases my mind a bit. :)
Gonna fly EVA Air on 787-10 in February from Taipei to Vienna. A question. Also, didn't they dimlock the windows on this flight? That happens a lot now these days.
We'll fly to Japan via Taiwan with Eva Air this autumn, and was surprised to see this video, which covers exactly what we need and it's even from Vienna, were we start our own journey :D
Wow. My friend and I are supposed to be visiting Jakarta and EVA air was listed as an option. I want to fly with them. What a fantastic flight that was. I think maybe they don't give amenity kits to keep costs down most likely and to be able to offer that great meal and snack service if that is the case. They can keep those amenity kits lol.
I flew EVA Air from Toronto to Taipei and then to Seoul with a layover at Taoyuon airport in 2018. The service was very good and I would fly EVA Air again.
Thank you for video. I had exactly same flight next week. Never flight with EVA, only Emirates, so now I see, that i should alive it. Is there drinks for free also in (standard) economy?
Re seat selection fees, if you buy Q class or higher it's apparently free of charge in economy. In premium economy you only get charged if you have P class. Business class there's no fee for seat selection.
I traveled on EVA twice. Both trips were so bad. One had a cancellation and another had delays, and the EVA staffs in Taipei airport yelled at us for their own delayed flight. The shuttle service in NY, NJ was terrible too. 🤬
Flew from Denpasar to Japan Osaka and return from Tokyo was a great product , Eva air was head to head with SQ , plus in some route they operate their hello kitty jet which was cool
@@ariyanikuniya3293 Ngga kok mba , saya pake penerbangan yang sama sama beroperasi di TPE taipei taoyuan airport , jadi ngga pindah , kalo pindah harus apply visa , dan visa waiver hanya Boleh dipake masuk taiwan ketika sudah pernah dipake visanya
I have flown EVA to Bangkok many times over the years, I first used them as, what I thought, a cheaper alternative to Thai Airways and other airlines, and as I have never liked the idea of indirect flights on long hual journeys, offering very competitive pricing for direct. Apart from the cost of the flight being a less expensive than EVA Air's competitors, everything else, from the service EVA provided at booking to the facilities, food & service on their flights have been first class. I recently had the pleasure of flying with EVA Air recently, now the Covid-19 restrictions are thankfully being lifted, and once again EVA Air lived up to my expectations. It's just a shame that some price increases for seats and baggage pricing etc are beginning to creep into the costing. However, still a first-class airline with excellent staff and crew.
@Simply Aviation thanks for this important Information about the Bangkok Part of the Fifth Freedom Flight! 👍🏻 I almost booked (Return) this Variation 🫣 EVA did inform in the Booking Process about the Halt in Bangkok (1 hour), but not that you need to leave the Plane + go through Security! In My Opinion, this is a game changer and for one Person or another not worth the money you (maybe) save with it.
A very good review. Thank you 👍. Vienna can be a good option to fly from Europe to Thailand, if less crowded. Plus this new connection too seems to be good value for money.
I often choose EVA for my flight from LAX-SGN. Done it 3 times already in Economy and the service, food, and aircraft is very nice. Soon EVA will let you upgrade meal for reasonable price if flying out of Taiwan. Next summer I will fly with EVA again but with their Royal Laurel and the experience from what I read is gonna be superb. I kinda wish if they fly their 787-9 on LAX to TPE route instead of 777-300ER

Absolutely love Eva, Toronto to Thailand, BKK and CNX, just booked another one for December 1, can't wait. Excellent service imo.
Evergreen used to have an air charter arm, called Evergreen Airlines. I flew in an Everygreen Airlines L1011 from Misawa Air Base to St. Louis, as part of the "Freedom Bird" to my first stateside assignment.
No wonder they consistently rank top 10 in the world, no matter by which organization! 🤩🤩🤩
Absolutely fantastic video David, EVA Air always looks great!😸
Also appreciate your tip at the end about putting trash in the blanket wrapper. Shows you are a considerate person
yes, I think Thailand and Taiwan have Air Service Agreement, to exchange each designated airlines can carry passengers on 5th freedom traffic right route, point beyond, and now more Thai choice EVA Airlines for their travels as well as EVA Airline also have Thai Crew operating onboard aircraft
Taking that exact flight in a few months, this video makes me even more excited
I noticed all these tests show the leg space, but I never heard about shoulder width if you get enough space between you and your neighbour.
Love the thoughtful tips! Everyone gets a better experience when people do this kind of things… Congrats! 👏🏼
I always prefer Brutally Honest videos over tripreports as you use voice-overs and most of all, you are interactive on your video screen
One of the nicer aviation reviewers 🙏 Kudos brother. Love the work.
We are flying Eva air to fly from Seattle to Beijing to visit family members. We wanted to learn about the 787-10 we were scheduled to fly on. This is such a helpful video. Another plane scheduled there is the a330.
I see your video on the a330 Eva air video. You guys are so great.
Flying with them for my graduation present to myself. Houston to Thailand! I am glad to know about the great reviews
Love Eva they are the best, flew with them a lot when I visited Asia. Great review as always !
I have not fly with the B787-10 jet.I like the cabin.Great work
My mother flew EVA Air from Taipei to LA before COVID. The vegetarian food was the best there - would encourage all to try. And as you have stated in your thumbnail, everything done right!
Flying with EVA in December! YYZ -
TPE. Looking forward to it already! This will be my third flight with them on the same route. Flying with B 777ER though.
Thanks for your information. I have an economy flight booked for me for the fall and I was worried that I would be hemmed in like a sardine. This eases my mind a bit. :)
Thanks for this video. I am bound to travel on this exact route in a few weeks and was looking for a proper EVA air economy review on 787.
I’ve always heard good things about EVA and I’d love to travel to Asia one day. Thanks for the review.
EVA used to put eyeshades and ear plugs in the lavatories or in the back galleys after the 1st meal service.
Always love watching these simple flying reviews.
The food portion is actually big and looks good too!
Bruh in Taiwan we call it "Eva Air", nobody says e-v-a airways... So it's fine to call it the usual way!
I flew EVA Air from Toronto to Taipei and then to Seoul with a layover at Taoyuon airport in 2018. The service was very good and I would fly EVA Air again.
thank you so much. really enjoyed this trip x
Thank you for video. I had exactly same flight next week. Never flight with EVA, only Emirates, so now I see, that i should alive it. Is there drinks for free also in (standard) economy?
I love Eva Air. One of the best airlines in the world. The premium seat is best.
Amazing vedio! One of the best yet this year!
I flew EVA AIR from TPE - US and it was so nice!
The Chinese name of EVA AIR is 長榮航空
Also if the fly is late they will give you snake well you are waiting in the air port !
Re seat selection fees, if you buy Q class or higher it's apparently free of charge in economy. In premium economy you only get charged if you have P class. Business class there's no fee for seat selection.
This is very helpful thank you! Did the cost of the ticket include checked luggage? If not how much was that for one bag for one person? Thanks
You can always find that information in the description of each of our videos. :)
I traveled on EVA twice. Both trips were so bad. One had a cancellation and another had delays, and the EVA staffs in Taipei airport yelled at us for their own delayed flight. The shuttle service in NY, NJ was terrible too. 🤬
I love Brutally Honest keep it up!
Flew from Denpasar to Japan Osaka and return from Tokyo was a great product , Eva air was head to head with SQ , plus in some route they operate their hello kitty jet which was cool
Glad to see there is no cost-cutting from my last EVA trip, despite the current challenging business environment.
This brings me back to my childhood. I haven't flown with EVA Air in like twenty years lol.
Lol....where did you find this weird world map at 0:32 ?
What’s the problem with that map?
@@simply_aviationdo more Eva airs!
@Simply Aviation thanks for this important Information about the Bangkok Part of the Fifth Freedom Flight! 👍🏻
I almost booked (Return) this Variation 🫣 EVA did inform in the Booking Process about the Halt in Bangkok (1 hour), but not that you need to leave the Plane + go through Security! In My Opinion, this is a game changer and for one Person or another not worth the money you (maybe) save with it.
A very good review. Thank you 👍. Vienna can be a good option to fly from Europe to Thailand, if less crowded. Plus this new connection too seems to be good value for money.
I think those were the best-looking airline meals I have ever seen in any flight review.
Yip agree top class airline , flew them 2003 from london on their 747-400 , service food and legroom excellent ....
You missed an opportunity to refer to the Suez Canal incident!
Wow awesome thanks fo4 all that information, great flight
Great flight. The power of Fifth Freedom of Flight, and EVA Air optimizing it.
Great video! Would love a Frankfurt to Cairo or vice verse tripreport or brutally honest.
Eva is always my top choices. Sometimes, I even make detours to fit my trip into Eva’s route network so I can enjoy their impeccable services.❤
