- Hey Everyone,
In this video I'm upgrading the older Peg Perego HPX. There is a newer version that is still 12v and will upgrade the same.
Upgrade your Peg Perego with a simple power tools battery adapter. Literally clip a few wires and connect the red to the red and black/blue to the black. I used shrink wrap for this 18v project but you can use electrical tape or even twist nut caps. The kids love it!
I used Milwaukee M18 3AH batteries initially. I did end up purchasing a 2 pack of generic 6AH batteries for longer run times and it was definitely worth it. If you prefer the genuine Milwaukee brand there is a link below for those as well.
Thanks for watching!

Ty for helping a grandpa to make all 10 his grandkids to happy dance
I run 2x 20v Craftsman batteries in parallel making 40v. The stock 12v motors, but i put them in Powerwheels gearboxes with metal 1st gears. I bought powerwheels adapters for the plastic wheels and zip screwed the adaptors onto the wheels to mate to the new gear boxes. It all works and the the thing rips.
That sounds rad! Maybe I should make a fun video taking things to the next level. The tractor is pretty much outgrown. They put so many miles on it. So many smiles and giggles!
Where do you buy metal 1st gear
if they're in parallel it adds the amperage but the voltage stays the same. to double the voltage they'd have to be wired in series👍
@@pittsburghsouth youre right i got the 2 mixed up, they are indeed in series. Battery 1 pos to machine neg to batt 2 pos, batt 2 neg to machine.
Also update the 12vdc motors couldnt handle it and popped, but i replaced them with cheap 24v motors and it's been going strong for a month. And the powerwheels gear boxes are sold on amazon as well with metal first gears but you need to buy power wheels recievers to mate to the peg perego wheels. I just blasted a few machine screws into the recievers to the wheel holds up fine.
Thanks for the video! I'm sitting at home after work accident , and looking for something to do I found your video! Awesome stuff.
That’s for the straight to the point video. Looking forward to the motor/gear upgrade video.
Nice man. Looks like a super easy swap
Do all the lights on the car work from that same battery ? And what about the danger of over draining the battery leaving it virtually useless.
Thanks, you are a life saver ………. My first Grandson got the JDeere tractor with bucket and trailer in 2014 I think, and now my second grandson whom is 4 , well it’s his. I went to 2 wmart stores to get replacement battery, but none found. So , there had to be a way to modify other batteries to adapt. Well, our battery powered tools are Ryobi brand, and I’ll check for a charger that I can swap out as you did . 1-30-2024 🇺🇸. Remember the ALAMO 🇺🇸
When choosing first gear to drive -> is only one wheel, one motor powered or should both motors be running with less power?
He is so right about Minnesotian hate the heat, I am living proof also
I saw comments saying it lasts 20-30 mins.
What size of battery are you using 3ah?
I've only got 2ah rigid batteries. But i also bought a step down to reduce the voltage to 12V. Will that nake any difference in the length of play? I've got 3x2ah batteries. So quick and easy to swap. But want to make sure it will last a bit. My dad also has a 4ah rigid battery. So thinking that could be a backup option
@@ramsdaro 6AH batteries
Iam searching for a solution to get a softstart for the engine. Any idea?!
They actually sell kits for variable speed pedals.. which is pretty rad if you ask me!
Thanks for the upload. How long does that 18v battery last?
Thought I replied.. probably 20mins run time. Longer on pavement and less in the weeds. The best part is just swapping out the battery for a fresh one. Don’t have to wait to charge it. O and the tractor is way faster.
@@dailyswithdave thank you. He’ll be sick this month and he’s had it since he was too. We want to get him something a little bit bigger but I think in the meantime, if I can just make it go faster for it should be all right. Looking more for like a go cart or dirtbike, maybe for Christmas
I changed out the 12v and swapped exactly to what you have. Worked wonders for 2days and then nothing. Batteries charged and no movement. Any suggestions?
Motor prolly smoked, or wires came off motors.
Did that battery make it faster than the original battery makes it?
Yeah, quite a bit faster. The kids love it.
How long is the battery before needing charging
Nice video !! how is it holding up ? still working good ?
Still rippin! They are getting a little big for it. 😭😭 Probably gift it to someone next year. Might have to make a video modifying something else.
Did the battery swap rip out the gearbox? I did this battery swap with both of my peg pegeros... within minutes, the gearboxes on both stripped out
Seems like the battery dies really fast now. How long does your batteries last?
Still lasting 20mins of actual drive time.
That's awesome. Would you have interest in trying the upgraded product?
Which upgraded product?
@@dailyswithdave Here we have a upgraded power tools battery adapter for Milwaukee M18 battery, which added fuses and switch for more security. If you're interested in trying this, we'd send you free one for trial, and you help us take a short video. How about this?
Appreciate the video. Tempted to do this with my son's. Ive got tons of 20v and flexvolt DeWalt batteries. Think the wiring would handle 20 volts? Ive seen other videos in the past where people wire in a voltage regulator but i like how simple this is!
I meeeaan. It'll work. Not sure about longevity. Ha An adjustable voltage regulator would be cool.
Milwaukee m18 batteries are also 20 volt. Dewalt decided to up the label to 20 volt to trick people. Every milwaukee battery I have ever tested actually tests a little higher than dewalt.
All 18v batteries are 20v max. DeWalt used a marketing gimmick but all the batteries are 18v nominal charge with 20.5v max
That’s cool!
I did this and my batteries got ridiculously hot. And only lasted for like 2-3 mins
Positive and negatives may be hooked up incorrectly?
First minute the Wagon smels like smoke
Keeps blowing fuse any ideas or just run it without a fuse?
Same setup as mine? Hmmmm... there shouldn't be any issue with fuses.
So basically on Amazon I found the same thing but it’s a Kobalt 24 V. It looks the exact same as the 18 V that you did. Even the wire stripping. Do you believe that would work as well? I did read that I didn’t need to buy electric gear for rear tires but those are easy. Thoughts ?
Yeah, it will work. It will add some extra wear on the motors. Gears are very to swap out. I plan on making a video swapping them out for everyone.
@@dailyswithdave awesome. Just order them. I also ordered new 24v gear as well. Thanks for the info!
This is awesome. Doing it this weekend. How long does it last on the battery? Roughly
Now that they have some use out of it. It's about 20-30mins of run time. It's nice though because I have 4 batteries. So it's a quick swap and throw the spent one on the charger. The kids love it.
@@dailyswithdave or wire the four of them in a serial manner and profit
You mean parallel i think.
Did you ever get this working?!
What’s the battery life like?
About 30 minutes of constant run time per battery
Milwaukee batts don't have built in voltage protection. This is a really bad idea unless you add a low voltage cutoff switch. You WILL ruin batteries.
Going on a year of use. No issues yet. Just need to replace bald rear wheels.
Yep first use it ruined my battery not to happy
@@briangarageworkouts3023 Not sure why. Been using ours for over a year now. No issues.
@@dailyswithdave ya makes no sense to me either just my luck lol. I tried jumping it. That didn't work its toast. 2 years old to. Waiting on a response from Milwaukee
solid. are the motors holding up?
Yeah, motors and gears are holding up. I had to replace the original gears that were 11 years old. They have HOURS on it this summer. 2 hours just this morning. 👍
How long does the 3Ah 18v battery last?
Honestly, about 20mins of run time. My kiddos are getting big now though. Maybe longer if yours are still small. I have 4 batteries. Plenty of fun.
@@dailyswithdave that’s awesome. I’ve got several batteries laying around. Thanks!
@@norfolknwhey4787 The kids love it. That's what it's all about!! Smiles on faces!
Nice chevelle
Thanks!
@@dailyswithdaveis it for sale?
any issues with it damaging the batteries or do the batteries kick out before any damage to the cells?
No issues so far. They have a lot of use too.
Question. I have the same gator for my kid but it has 2 red 2 blue wires going to the battery, you just have 1 of each it looks like. Wrap them together with the pos/neutral and it should work the same?
hmmm... That would make sense. I would have to look more closely. It seems odd that you have 4 wires running to the battery.
@@dailyswithdave hey Dave, def appreciate the response. It is certainly 4 wires that go into the blue peg-perego plastic connector (which connects to the battery). I am thinking of either keeping the connector and pulling the pos/neutral off the battery, or pigtailling the wires to the 18v battery adapter. What would you do?
@@chadzanca6423 It seems odd that there would be 4. Personally, I would try pigtailling them.
I did this with a Dewalt 20V and it keeps blowing a fuse. Anybody had this problem?
Where is the fuse located?
Did you come to a conclusion for this? I do not run a fuse... did you run one at the battery?
I’m dealing with the same issue. The inline fuse to the dewalt adapter blows every time. Any ideas?
with 20V the 12V motors go kaboom
This is super cool if you want to spend more money than stock, have less run time, and have less safety than stock, though you do get a bit of a bump in power for what, 10 or 15min? Why not just purchase a replacement Peg Perego one, and use your old one as a spare when the big one runs out ? Buying M18s is expensive, like twice the price for the same amp hours. Plus the heat gun (BIC lighter would do fine, or even a match) and adapter. Depending on the tool battery that you choose, it might have a fuse built in that could/will blow, or you'll run it down to 0% and kill the life of them, or they could get damaged (rattling around all the time in there) and start on fire. There's a reason they use a sealed battery with all kinds of shielding for the kids toys.
Lmfao
You must be fun at parties
Haha
And here comes the battery police 👆🏻😂😂😂😂
the reason for sealed batteries is because they are cheap for them and they can make more money selling them 3xtime the price.
