The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

The Ed Sullivan show was the only show that would present everything from dancing bears to opera in the same hour. It was amazing.
Why the Ed Sullivan show was so great: he brought performers and performances to the screen that people otherwise couldn't see on live stage.
This is special because I think Regina Resnik was a performer you had to see as well as hear to appreciate her full impact as a singer. This Habanera is wonderful.
Vivat Regina Resnik - the greatest Carmen of the last 50 years. I experienced her Carmen twice in the theater - once in Vancouver in 1965 and then a few years later at the Met. I am so grateful that she recorded the role for London/Decca, Schippers conducting. She had everything - the voice, the acting, the allure.
Incredible voice!
This was Regina's only appearance on the Ed Sullivan show, as far as I can ascertain. Thanks for posting!
Those descending chromatic scales are notoriously difficult to sing in tune, but she's spot on. I saw her sing Carmen here in Vancouver in the mid 60's.
Century since RR was born!
Excellent!
Resnik’s cigarette is a nice touch
Regina Resnik (August 30, 1922 - August 8, 2013)
There is only one Carmen i rank above Regina Resnik( and it isnt Maria Callas, who never performed it on stage).
She's rather overdressed for being on a break from work in a cigarette factory. LOL
