By far, one of the best renditions of Habanera that I've found on the internet on my search thus far. Not only is Teresa Berganza absolutely breathtaking as Carmen, the chorus is spectacular in complimenting her singing

My absolute favourite operatic performance of Carmen. The exquisite Teresa Berganza! I believe that this is the version used by the Master Spanish dancer Antonio Gades in his stunning interpretation of Carmen of 1983. Just imagine incredible Spanish dance, the crack and stamp of the shoes, interwoven with the opera in the 'modern' (1983) setting of a dance school and the main character played by Antonio himself with the wonderful Laura Del Sol as Carmen. Their story 'mirrors' Carmen but with one of the finest male Spanish dancers (Flamenco/Ballet) ever known. It is available on DVD but look for the original '83 version. Antonio Gades went on to form his own company at 'Teatro Real' Madrid 'Compania Antonio Gades' and their performances are matchless, whereas in the movie you are drawn into the lives of the characters as dancers at the school of dance rehearsing Carmen with Antonio searching for his perfect Carmen. The music of the opera, interwoven with Spanish guitar etc. and Flamenco is magical!

@@trangngothuy2857 Wrong. That’s the mistake foreign sopranos singing Carmen always make ! As Spanish I dislike profoundly the exageration completely unnatural of those non- Spanish sopranos. They may sing well but the way they move on the stage os simply horrible !!

I know absolutely nothing about operatic voices but I love the Habanera of Carmen and its story in general and find that this version is the one I prefer the most. Love it!

Nunca me perdí ningún concierto tuyo y al final del mismo cada vez esperábamos tu “Pobres chicas las que tienen que servir” con todo el publico en pie. I was there the night this was recorded for French television. Five minutes before curtain I got a cancellation front row the first circle at the Opera Comique. An unforgettable evening.
Never thought I would hear anyone outdo Callas in this role but Ms. Berganza does it for me. Gorgeous.
Callas never sang the role of Carmen on stage. But she did record the complete opera with Nikolai Gedda on disc.

Esta una reconocida mezzosoprano española, asociada frecuentemente con personajes de óperas de Rossini, Mozart y Bizet, es admirada por su técnica, musicalidad y presencia en escena. Aquí la podemos disfrutar cantando la "Habanera" de la ópera Carmen.
Nació en 1933, dato que se supo hasta que cumplió 80 años. Actualmente tiene 89. Hoy es su cumpleaños.
