Thank you for the kind comment. I have not done any solar videos yet as I am still quite inexperienced with solar. I've been thinking of getting a basic solar kit to learn hands-on (the Harbor Freight basic setup seems reasonable). If I do that (probably in the spring), I can try to make a video about that.

Many years ago, there was a gas leak in my house. (I live in Germany, in a 10-apartment building in a big city). So the gas was shut off, and it took four days to repair. A mild scenario, because everywhere else things worked. We still had water and electricity, you could go shopping or order in. But it was winter, and in my apartment everything (heating, cooking, warm water) runs on natural gas. I had an electric heater, but I gave that to an older neighbour whose health couldn't cope with the temperature, so it was definitely quite uncomfortable. That's when I started to prepare. I do hope I never need my food/water supplies, portable gas stove etc. for a longer time, but I've already been sitting pretty during shorter power outages or when the water gets shut off because they're working on something.
PS: I make my coffee in an espresso maker on the kitchen stove.
I think four days is a long time to have no gas! I can understand how that would inspire you to prepare. There is still much to do for us here in getting our own preparations in order. Thank you for comment. Espresso maker on the stove makes such a good cup of coffee!
I have had one for many years - I bought a stack on canisters as well & I have used it ages. Often we go on weekend trips so want a hot drink after lunch. I bought a cheap skillet & have used it for a quick BBQ lunch & when I was camping as a back up. I was once at my parents for dinner when we lost power. I boiled water to fill their thermoses & gave a few to our elderly neighbours who were so happy.
You can get adapter hoses to connect them to a 20 lb tank
@@pharmhound68 I only used mine for picnics or the rare camping stop for a fast brew up but I know you can get a few different connections for different hookups. At a few dollars for a stack of butane cannisters I will stay as I am. These also fit the boiling water kit I have.
I really like that it has the option for Butane or Propane gas. If you're trying to use Butane in a cold environment, below 31 degrees F, Butane will not vaporize. Meaning your can will have zero pressure and will not work. Propane, on the other hand, will vaporize well below freezing.
Also, I think the price point is very reasonable for this burner. Our house is all electric, so I'm definitely going to order one for power outages. Thanks for the review.

You should not use this burner, inside is an insulator material that doesn't need to he there at all and it is toxic. If you can't smell it when using the burner see a nose doctor. Pthalates are toxic and this burner should be recalled. Recommending it is a crime against humanity.

I have a propane stove and furnace, but I only used one burner, so I turned the gas off the stove and just use a single electric hub. When I lost hydro, I dug out my camping stove, and cooked with butane. It worked great!
My son bought me a Keurig a few Christmases ago. It makes a great instant hot water source for hot chocolate, porridge and soup. And my two cup teapot fits perfectly in it. On a rare occasion, I will make coffee with a reusable refillable pod.

We have an RV with an induction cooker, and we have this as a backup. We use this a lot when we want to cook fish or anything super smokey that we don't want to cook inside the RV or want to save the battery. Its great! The butane is hard to find now though so that sucks. I do catch and cooks and will bring this with me in my backpack. As a tip, you can take the butane bottle (with the lid on) put it in the side panel but flip it so it faces backwards. the panel closed perfectly, and you have a bottle in there without it getting bumped and releasing the butane.

These butane canisters can be found cheaply at large Asian supermarkets such as as H-Mart, assuming you live near one.

There is an amazing value to being abe to make a hot beverage when the power goes out and it's cold! I'd have to say priceless! Maybe not "life or death" but possibly the difference in being able to prevent some pretty serious damage to health AND home! (Signed someone with a fair amount of experience- It's ALWAYS cold when the power goes out here, usually severe cold!)
I agree 100%. There's something about the morale boost of a hot beverage when it's cold and dark and the power is out. Nothing quite like it!
Thank you, this is fabulous. I love the dual fuel option as I'm not sure which I'd like better. Looks super clean and yes, I like the color too. Ps; I SO glad you had to replace the canister, show me/us how it acts when it gets low. I ordered one from your link and am happy you get a little something out of it... and between Christmas and New Year's is our wedding anniversary and that works really well (Quiet).
Even with power underground to my house from a wide open highway and rare weather outages … last Winter, twice, there was some power glitch in the morning before coffee was made. I bought a similar 1 burner. I also bought some large ER water containers (I cannot run my well pump w/o electricity). AND I have started putting together a battery backup system (vs gas generator). I’m not a prepped but times are changing and as you said, I want to get through any outages with minimal disruption :). Good thoughts. I have an induction burner in addition to electric stove and whether it is that or the gas one burner, it is nice to have an option to cook some things (smelly!) outside. Overall, I think options are nice and a small portable butane/propane stove is neither expensive nor does it take up a huge amount of storage space so an efficient backup. Oh … I do pour over and also coffee concentrate (cold brew). Having a good concentrate means a 1/2 or full cup in a quick minute: add water, heat on stove or microwave. I hear you. We are looking into future plans for solar and back up batteries. In the mean time, we need to have two generators as we have two separate electric meters on our property, and one of them runs the well pump. Sounds like you have lots of redundancies ready, which is great to hear.
For coffee, i have drank starbucks, canned Nescafé coffee. I have a small remote canister stove that runs on butane canister like the one that you used, and I typically use it when i head to a public park for my hot drink and hot meal during lunchtime at the park.

I have been looking at these portable stoves for a week now, I work construction out in the field, about a week ago I saw this dude with something similar heating up some tortillas and re-heating some meats for tacos and I thought how assume was that, I mite just have to buy one now for my lunch
These are ok in an emergency or for occasional use when camping. The reason they're so lightweight is because the sheet metal is so thin. Then most of the burners are aluminum. These will just rust out in in a few years of occasional use. The burner plate is what really gets me. They're enameled coated steel that cracks and comes off within a few uses.
I doubt that one is any different from the brand I have. It heats quickly and does the job but that thing gets hot. I wouldn't put it on a wooden table or anything that could catch fire as it will.
You didn't mention the cost. The propane isn't that bad but those little butane cylinders are twice the price in the US.
Really enjoyed this video as I am looking to buy one of these portable gas cookers. Your review was very helpful. Prepping is really a popular subject right now. Hope to see more of this kind of content soon.
BTU to watts , divide by 3.41 8000 /3.41 give you 2346 watts. You are the only one that gave an idea how long a can of butane will last "several meals" I heard it will burn for about an hour.

If you leave it on high it might last about an hour and a half but if you use it on low it lasts quite a while I've got some braised beef cooking on mine on low and it's half empty but should have enough to finish cooking it.

I have one of these, different brand name and different colour but probably came out of the same factory. Mine didn’t come with the hose to connect to an external tank, which looks like a great addition. That said, I wouldn’t want to be without it for emergencies.

A few comments. I have two of these and they are great in normal times for making things like stir fry outside so I don't coat every inch of our kitchen with oil spatters. Secondly, 8000 BTU is a bit on the low side... a 12000 BTU stove will heat things quite a bit faster, obviously. Thirdly I learned something from the comments; these don't work in winter at low temperatures as I found, and I did not realize that the butane doesn't have pressure below 31F. The bigger stoves (12K BTU up) can be used for pressure canning outdoors in case you don't want to run a pressure canner indoors for safety reasons or to not heat and steam up your kitchen. One fresh can will run a 100 minute pressure canning cycle (pretty much uses it up.) And lastly, the price per can is a bit more these days. Best deals I found are for four packs at Gordon Food Service stores and some Asian markets which are $8 to $13. Menards has single cans but they are expensive per can there.

Nov. 16, 2022---Interesting video as it's the first time I've seen it being used/demonstrated, but I think it's impractical. Have more than one of the Coleman 2 & 3 gas burning stoves and yes, I use regular gasoline in them. I'm 69 and that's what my parents used on our trips. I also have 2 of Coleman single burner stoves that use the larger propane bottles. Thing is, with and adopter, you can refill 'em from a 5 gallon (or larger) propane tank. Used to drive truck and get stuck on the west side of the Sierras when the road was closed. Nothing like heating up coffee on the catwalk, with me carrying extra styrofoam cups for other drivers who'd never seen/thought of having something like this. And a can of chili only took a couple of minutes to heat up, which I did in its can.
Interesting that you mention that because I ALMOST picked up an old Coleman stove at the thrift store recently and now I wish I'd taken the time to refurbish it. I'll keep my eye out for one. If I was a stranded driver being handed a hot cup of coffee, I know I'd be grateful. Thank you for the comment.
@@deleonhomestead Wasn't my idea of using the Coleman stove4, but my youngest brother. He got into truck driving and had momma and 2 boys to take care of. Fast food/truck stop food is EXPENSIVE. So when he got back home after his first 30 day run as a team driver, He dug out his camping gear, hitting Walmarts for groceries, cooking everything on the trucks catwalk.....that area behind the cab/space between it and the trailer. Walmart's got the single burner stoves but just bought another one via Ebay for $30, including shipping. And it was brand new! Brother gave me his burner and I've got a stash of Coleman propane bottles. I also got into prepping for 8 people and ended up by accident with A LOT of 2 & 3 Coleman stoves which uses regular gasoline. Kept bidding on 1 of each and kept losing. So I got "smart" and made multiple bids, figuring I'd end up with 1 of each. I won All the bids. There was a 2 burner stove at a thrift shop for $20....
stupid me, didn't buy it. But check Craigslist as I've seen more than one lantern/stove going dirt cheap price wise.

Costco in Canada was selling the portable stove and then you had to buy the butane separately so I only paid $17.80 for each stove. I picked up two as for the butane I continue to stock my shelves just in case.

Buying because one comes with out the propane if you want butane and propane make sure you get the right one and some are a little more expensive they come with the cans and propanes a little more like 60$ or more worth buying ! Also the handles on the pot could get hot so be careful with that and after you use the butane the can will be very very Cold after use ! And you can buy four of these in a pack off of Amazon too ! Oh and make sure you listen out for that click when Turing it on it’s not on until you fully hear that click !

I have a question. What kind of surfaces can I put this stove on to cook with? Does it get pretty hot underneath. We have a thick glass picnic table, and I’m a little worried about cooking with this stove on top of it.
Pour over is my go-to most days! So quick, and definitely better than the keurig, I agree. To answer your question, I did actually test that on the wooden table in the video because I was initially worried about heat transfer. I'm happy to report that it didn't get hot at all! On glass though, I might take the extra precaution of putting something like a cutting board down underneath. Thanks for your comment.

@@deleonhomestead I saw one person use a cookie sheet underneath, with hot pads under the cookie sheet. I have some thin silicone mats on the countertops in my kitchen. They can be purchased on Amazon. They are good for protecting surfaces from hot stuff.

A ceramic floor tile works really well and its cheap ! It was my solution years ago, still using it today.
If you live out of a jeep, could you cook on this inside the jeep, if in winter weather? I’m losing my apartment and will have to live in my Jeep Liberty, so want to be safe about it.
Google says you need at least some ventilation if you do that indoors, so just be careful with that
I'm sorry to hear about the apartment. I would be concerned about ventilation inside of a vehicle when using this. But it's certainly small enough to travel around with you and light enough that you can set up temporary cooking areas anywhere you need to. I have also found these in great condition at thrift stores if you don't want to purchase a new one and wait for shipping. Thank you for your comment.

I bought this stove a year ago and have used it a half a dozen times. It does exactly what it's designed to do. If I were living in any size car/truck/van, a flat, butane stove is the only sensible choice.
Here are some things I really like about it:
Self contained. To travel, put the plastic cap on the butane bottle and put it in the stove w/ the cap pointing out the hole in the back.
Dual fuel. Sometimes butane cartridges are not the easiest to find. Propane cans are everywhere (not always the cheapest, but for 1 person, they last a long time.) and will work even in the COLDEST weather. If you will be in a cold climate, I'd have at least 1 propane can as a backup.
Low profile. It will not tip over. Most camping stoves are so tall and THEN you put a pot of hot liquid on top seems to beg for bad, painful, dangerous things to happen.
Here are some things that I don't care so much for:
Butane doesn't work well (or not-ar-all!) below about 35F and using it causes it to cool itself off even more. Fortunately, propane will still work at any temp that you can handle being "outdoors."
The propane adapter feels kinda breakable, but I have found them on Amazon if you need to replace it.
The plastic carry case is really thin. While I thinking about it, I'm going to put a stripe of duct tape on the hinge as an ounce of prevention.
When the case craps out, I'll put a strap around the stove to keep all the parts together.

With the butane fuel I think that this stove is approved for indoor use. By using the propane is it still approved for indoor use? I’m curious about the UL listing regarding that.
Officially, I'm pretty sure this is rated only for outdoor use. Unofficially, if I were to use this inside, I would take precautions to make sure ventilation, carbon monoxide detection, and use in open spaces were all taken (as with anything involving combustion, even out wood stove). A coarser grind of coffee may work better for French press for less grit.
You are 100% right. That was pre-ground coffee that I made work in a pinch. Needed to warm up!
I have seen gas one butane cans that have CRV seal and others that have TSR seal. Do you know what is the difference with the seals and what do you use with your gas one stove.
It looks like mine are the CRV seal, but I didn't actually know there were two until this comment (so thank you for that!). 'Explosion-proof' definitely seems like a quality you want in gas canisters.
These butane stoves seem to be made by different manufacturers at price points that differ by $10 to $30. Yet they share the same exact design. My question is if there are varying levels of quality between almost identical units from different manufacturers? The one I looked at had burner elements that appeared to be made from cheap pot metal.
Great question, and it's something I wonder too. I haven't had so many of these stoves that I can say I've noticed a difference in quality. I've seen the exact one I bought in a thrift store for less than half of what I paid, but of course, it's used and I'm not sure what all has been done to it. If it were me, I would make sure there were no gas leaks, the burner produced a nice flame, and it started reliably (even with the assistance of a lighter would be acceptable to me). Everything else I'd be pretty flexible on. Thanks for the comment.
Google the safety of the fuel canisters. Not all are equal. Use the ones with a safety "valve".

I had a similar stove, it wouldn't simmer. Full flame or nearly full flame or no flame. Can Gas One simmer?
Yes indeed. Mine handles a low flame very well, however, I will say I haven't simmered much outdoors with any wind, so that would be something to consider. No wind? No problem.
Hi! I just saw your video and was hoping you'd tell us the function of the red knob at the very end of the 2 lb tank connection hose. It seems to me that it's stationary, but can't find an explanation anywhere. Hope you can help. Thank you!

What is disconcerting is that the Gas One and the Amazon listing show a port on the right side, just an inch past the face for a Coleman style, small propane tank and brass connector. The other pictures on both of those sights do not show that opening. My question is: did that propane hose come with it or did you purchase it separately. Thanks to anyone who might know the answer.

I haven't yet. I don't have the correct adapter at the moment. But since it is still low pressure, I don't see why it wouldn't work just fine with a 20lb tank.
Really important to get butane or propane stove. If you get just the butane one, you'll be hunting for those garbage ass bs canisters everywhere you go. Propane is easy, those butane shits are impossible.
I agree. Having two fuel options makes a lot of sense.
We have 3 Incase others need one.
And of course, you can cook indoors with it. No need to go outside to cook a meal.
Your kitchen gas stove puts out up to 18k btus of heat.

My understanding is the canisters can be stored for up to 10 years, especially if new. I have heard that propane/butane don't really even 'go bad' like gasoline. It's their containers that will likely fail before the fuel ever does. That's what I love about it -- I can buy extras and not worry about an expiration. Thanks for the comment!
