There isn’t an Aussie born, or adopted like me, who doesn’t have a lump in the throat or a tear in the eye when we hear this, or who can’t help but sing along. This, as much as “Waltzing Matilda” is an iconic anthem of this wonderful country.
Hi Mike...this ad was released early 2022 around the time Qantas resumed international flights after Covid 19, to bring Aussies and others home from faraway places. In my eyes it's one of the most beautiful ads ever made. 👍🤗
@@PeterStokes-v3t True, there've been a few versions of this ad over the years. But this version was designed for the time when borders reopened, and extra special for that reason. QANTAS played it on flights as the planes neared Australian airports, celebrating Aussies coming home.

Hugh Jackman played Peter Allen in the stage production “The Boy from Oz”. ❤ 🐨 Happy Thanksgiving to your family.

Peter Allen was a brilliant talent and at one stage married to Liza Minelli. My favourite song of his Is Tenterfield Saddler ❤ the song is about Peter's backstory, family, and his marriage to Liza 😊
Despite being raised in Seven Hills NSW, circumstances led me to live in Lismore for several years. On a trip from Lismore to Glen Innes, we called in at the Tenterfield Saddlers shop could “hear” Peter , singing the song. Lovely experience
This commercial was made to celebrate the 100th birthday of Qantas. My daughter was a flight attendant for 10 years and cried at every new version of the commercial over the years.
It was used by Qantas for their ad, but was an original release by Peter Allen back in the day. This BEAUTIFUL SONG was written by a Famous Australian 🇦🇺 Entertainer who lived worked and died in America he grew up in Country New South Wales his name is PETER ALLEN ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Kinda leaves you speechless, doesn't it? It didn't start out as an ad; it was written by Peter Allen, singer songwriter who spent much of his career in the States. But QANTAS (which started out as Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services, a little country airline) have done the song proud for many years and several iterations.
So many international visitors comment on the time it takes to fly to Australia. Those same visitors are unaware of just how many Aussies (often in their late teens) travel overseas, despite the great cost of time. Those same Aussies love the adventure of visiting new places, experiencing different lifestyles. They are also among the many Aussies who shed a tear as they arrive back to the familiar shores. The song encompasses so much more than just love of country.
We are a Country of traveler’s and no matter how much we love where we go. Nothing is like the magic of seeing us land at home. Australia always calls us home again. QANTAS started in Longreach, Queensland and for two years of COVID all planes were locked up in the desert. This Ad celebrates them coming back but they have now been using this song by Peter Allen for 15 years. There is a 14 minute video of all of the ones they made each year. All different and all beautiful, they don’t just make them in Australia but all around the world. They do use the National children’s choir. Thank you.
Mike the original cover of this Peter Allen song for a Qantas ad is very moving to any Australian at home or abroad. It captures so much of what is uniquely Australian and brings a great longing. Peter Allen is probably best associated with this song and another, Tenterfield Saddler (which you may well relate too). Also Peter was married to Liza Minelli in 1967 to 70 fyi.
Hey Buck Loving your channel.Longreach Queensland was the original home of QANTAS.There is a very fine museum there. All QANTAS aircraft are named for cities or famous people but the flagship is always called Longreach. This is also to commemorate the distances involved. The term tyranny of distance was a common one in our history because of the fact that before aircraft it was almost impossible to return from Australia due to the cost and distance
Peter Allen wrote this song back in the 70s. He slso wrote Arther's Theme which won and Oscar. The musical The Boy from Oz was based on his life and featured his music.
Qantas changes the ad every few years but it is always the same song. This has some famous Australians in it - Hugh Jackman, Kylie Minogue and others. This was a TV ad and a pretty impressive one. Qantas also always plays this song on the plane back to Australia. After being away it can bring a tear to the eye.
Although I never really got into Peter Allan’s music I always loved this song from him. This version is a beautiful tribute to the original song and Australia and unofficial Anthem and Quanta’s song. Very touching and emotional at times, just a nice song for us down under.
Mike, don't sweat the little things. The more videos you make, the more professional you and they will become, and the greater enjoyment from your bigger audience. It all fits together neatly. Keep up the good work mate. Semper Fi.

Mike the Longreach, Winton, Cloncurry area in western Queensland is where Qantas Airlines was born. The Qantas Founders Museum and the Stockmans Hall of Fame are in Longreach and they are well worth the visit if people are ever in that area. We had a beer at a Winton pub with 2 older retired guys from Texas who were doing a road trip in the Queensland outback. They had left their wives at home as they thought the outback might have been a little bit too rough for the "old gals".. They were staying in Longreach and had driven the couple of hundred Kms out to Winton to have a look around . We had a great time chatting about their trip and how much they were enjoying it they reckoned a lot of the country in western Qld reminded them of parts of Texas. It was around 3pm when I advised them that they had better start heading back to Longreach because they would start encountering kangaroos and stock on the roads once it was dusk. Winton is famous as a town that a future American President stayed in at after his military plane ran out of fuel and they had to put it down on a sheep station about 30kms out of town during WW2. They walked to the homestead and luckily the old farmer had a phone so he called someone in Winton with a truck to come out and give them a ride into town. . LBJ and the rest of his crew were shouted a few beers in the pub by the locals and then given accomodation until the US military could get some people out there to retrieve them and their plane. Of course no one at that time knew that they were hosting a future US president they were just being friendly to some visiting US brothers in arms, they sure like to tell the story now though even have it posted on the wall at the pub where they put them up.
This song written by Peter Alan was used by QANTAS as a promotion for the Airline. That’s why so many children are featured. Many citizens here think it should be our national anthem.
Thank you for sharing this reaction. Yes, it's an Advt. but a good one and plenty there to make you homesick - even when you haven't left! Hi from Hobart, Tasmania. Have a look at some of the Tasmanian clips as well. { Is the most beautiful State - of course! } 🤣😊
My power and net were down for seven hours, I thought I'd go crazy, glad I'm back for this! It's a beautiful song, some of this video was very moving - the choir, outback scenes and the Bondi Icebergs pool - the celebrities were unnecessary! Keep them coming! 🙋👏
My grandson went to Texas on a job and he told me that he loved the Texans and the food. So good to have him back home in Australia but I envy him for being able to go Texas.
Qantas is the third oldest airline in the world (established 1920) and the oldest in any English speaking country. Not bad for a "little" country continually punching above its weight
This song was very popular many years before Qantas started using it. The man who wrote it was feeling real feelings, and it was nothing about airlines and the commercial exploitation of art to sell tickets. It is emotional because it was a heartfelt song. Peter Allen was a wonderful composer. You have heard his music before. I Go To Rio is a Peter Allen song. And he got an Oscar as co-writer of Arthur's Theme from the movie Arthur. Peter Allen wrote the signature line "When you get caught between the moon and New York City" while he was in a plane in a holding pattern above New York.
Was travelling Europe for a year back in 2004 and flew qantas when came back to Australia. They played that song upon landing and I cried! Also Longreach is where Qantas was started.
Qantas stands for Queensland and northern territory air services, it was founded in Longreach Queensland, there is a huge museum there about Australia and planes too, they delivered and landed a Boeing 747 there for lifetime display too.😊
Peter Allen, who wrote this song, was a world renowned entertainer. He was born in Tenterfield, a country town in New South Wales. My favourite song of his is "Tenterfield Saddler". Well worth a listen IMO. He wrote "Go to Rio" and he co-wrote "I Honestly Love You" and "Don't Cry Out Loud ". He was briefly married to Liza Minnelli.
Mike one of the things you may not have realised that a lot of our well known sporting stars and celebrities were featured in the commercial as well which also adds a little bit to it but thatnks for your reaction and continued great content on your channel, cheers.
As mentioned, Peter Allen wrote this. He grew up in Tenterfield NSW, then later worked in NY. So written as a longing for home. Qantas has used this song for years. Very effective when long distance flights are eturning to Oz.
This isn’t a very good version but I still cried as an Aussie. Australians are travellers and adventurers by heart but this place keeps calling us back.

How are you going, Rose? I’ve been thinking about you. I walk outside and smell the jasmine and gardenias. Sooo beautiful! ❤🌸🌼
@@turdferguson400 Feeling much better, thank you. ❤ Mmmm, Gardenias are one of my favourites, too. The smell of Australia in Spring.
@@RoseHagan-d6z ❤ Are you getting the cicadas? Crikey, they’re loud today! 😂
@@turdferguson400 No. Am camping near Ballarat at Lake Burrumbeet and there are thousands of Lady Beetles and so many different spiders. If I could pick cicadas or spiders today I’d go with the cicadas. 😂
@@RoseHagan-d6z Fair call! I love Ballarat. Have fun, my friend! ❤
I'm not crying.....
I’m not either, just need to get rid of the lump in my throat.
It’s just these damn onions I’m chopping…
The school kids singing are from a tiny outback town called Longreach which is where Qantas was started.
The original one with just the kids choir is still the best imo.
I agree, it didn't need random stars to increase its audience!
Interesting, thank you! 🙋👍
As an Australian I love this song! I was born here in Australia and grew up here also it’s the best 💜
I love this ad but I prefer the one with the very large choir (the original?)
Hey, Jen! ❤️🇦🇺👍❤️
😢😢❤❤
Always makes me cry.
You’re making me cry Mikey. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your beautiful family!
Good call Shaza
My grandson went to Texas on a job and he told me that he loved the Texans and the food. So good to have him back home in Australia but I envy him for being able to go Texas.
Qantas is the third oldest airline in the world (established 1920) and the oldest in any English speaking country. Not bad for a "little" country continually punching above its weight
Well said! ❤️🇦🇺👍
The lady reminds me of my mum when I bring the kids home.
Peter Allen wrote the signature line "When you get caught between the moon and New York City" while he was in a plane in a holding pattern above New York.
the only song in the world that makes me emotional
Was travelling Europe for a year back in 2004 and flew qantas when came back to Australia. They played that song upon landing and I cried! Also Longreach is where Qantas was started.
Hey Buck this is a great anthem and got the old Hills Hoist (clothesline) in there…another Aussie legend of an invention!! 😊
Kylie ❤❤
5.52k wow.. this song should boost your viewers.
As mentioned, Peter Allen wrote this. He grew up in Tenterfield NSW, then later worked in NY. So written as a longing for home. Qantas has used this song for years. Very effective when long distance flights are eturning to Oz.
Longreach, Queensland is the country town where QANTAS Started from over 100 years ago
Qantas was established in Longreach, Queensland, over 100 years ago.
QANTAS. Queensland and Northern Territory Air Service. Original song by Peter Allen..
Should have been choice😮 for our National Anthem or The Seekers "I am Australian "
This isn’t a very good version but I still cried as an Aussie. Australians are travellers and adventurers by heart but this place keeps calling us back.
This is NOT just a Qantas commercial. Peter Allan wrote and sang it Qantas stole it.
I love the original sung by Peter Allen.
Would love to see you react to an earlier version of this commercial too
