I am not lndian Australian but l Am Australian…we don’t see separatism but we are One. My husband and l are immigrants to Australia and now have 3 generations in this beautiful country.
We are patriotic but we don’t feel the need to shove it down peoples throats. You will rarely see an Aussie flag in someone’s front yard or on their car. We don’t brag about living in Gods own country. We know how lucky we are to have the freedom that we have, the safety from mass shootings, sending our kids to school with no metal detectors or school police and no active shooter drills. Our country is beautiful and the more I travelled overseas the more I loved coming home to what we have here. It’s not perfect, but it’s a damn sight better than so many other countries. I worked for the police here for 15yrs, virtually no guns seen and certainly no handguns, and still am so grateful that I was born in this stunning country and that I have raised my son here.
So agree with every word you said. My family migrated to Australia in 1968, I was 2 yrs old and though I have been back to my country of birth, Australia is my home and I love this country. I have grown up in a country full of vast beauty and in safety. I always get filled with pride and deep gratitude when I hear this song
Our patriotism is quiet, we do not need public displays of it. We know it's a good country to live in and that is all that matters. I don't think we really care what others think - hence our willingness to let everyone know of all the dangerous animals here 😂
Judith passed away about 2 years ago at age 79, while the three men live on and are well into their 80's. RIP Judith 😇😇 . Yes we do love Australia but don't have the need to fly the Aussie flag everywhere, for we all know who we are...proud Aussies 🇦🇺🇦🇺
We lost Judith in the same week as we lost Olivia Newton John. In this song she is leaning against a tall stool. She had a massive stroke and had to learn to walk and talk again. She was left with a lung disease from measles as a child but she never lost that voice. I love her singing When The Carnival is Over. Like Livvie, Judith was a very special lady and they are both missed. Thank you.
I read that Judith came to this concert from hospital where she was still recovering from her stroke and that she went back to hospital that night. I got on a tram once, many years ago in the City in Melbourne and Judith was sitting there on her own. She saw me and obviously realised that I recognised her and she just slowly turned away and looked out of the tram. I would have loved to go over to her and thank her for the joy she'd given me over the years, but I didn't and I think we exchanged the briefest of smiles when I got off the tram. I could have imagined that, but.....
As a proud fifth generation Texan, I've had the privilege of working with and becoming friends with several Australians and I feel a real affinity with Australia and Australians. To me, this song really drives home the story of Australia and the pride Australians feel for their homeland, much the way I feel about the USA and TEXAS.
I am not from New Zealand, but we as Australians have the greatest respect for our neighbours over the"ditch". They, like us, are very patriotic in their own ways, but we like to poke fun at each other from time to time. If you want to watch something very emotional (it bring me to tears each time I watch it) that shows the strength of brotherhood I suggest you check out the "2nd 1st Farewell Their Fallen Comrades with a Huge Haka".The Haka is a Maori ceremonial performance that conveys pride, strength and respect. One of the great things about this song is its inclusivity. From First Nations people all the way through to the most recent immigrants. It’s a celebration of all the cultures that make up the country, as well as its history and landscapes. This is one of those songs that make you feel proud, without needing to resort to jingoism.

we aren't so jingoistic as Americans, we don't normally bother flying the flag or sticking our state emblems on our vehicles but were sure are proud of our land and we consider New Zealand a relative so we are proud when they do well also

I think Australians are very patriotic but in a different way to the US. Of course this is a generalisation, but I feel for most Australians it is personal, almost reverential and doesn’t need to be outwardly demonstrated. It is also not blind.

So true. There’s very few lines we draw “a line under” and pit Viccie against New South Welshman or South Aussie vs Queenslander. We all truly consider ourselves to be of 1 single nation, not a nation divided by states and territories to the point like Americans do. The only real time you’ll see the Australian flag everywhere is in Australia Day. Our two greatest adversaries are Cyclone and Bushfire - any time those disasters strike, the states and territories literally unite in every sense of the word.
I was born in England, but emigrated at the age of 4. So yes I'm English, but I'm proud to be an Australian citizen. As far as I'm concerned, i am Australian. Like Judith sang, we come from all the lands around the world. A massive mixing pot of people who all love Australia with pride. I love the song begins with the Aboriginal didgeridoo, for they were the first Australians for 40, 000. Years, as was sung. It's fitting for them to be recognised as the first Australian's, because for years they were persecuted and wronged. Judith having suffered a stroke a year previous to this concert and at age 71 here. I commented in the other Seekers song reaction, Judith still brought forth her angelic strong voice in her 70s. We lost both Judith and Olivia Newton John in the same week in 2022 😢.
The Seekers were MASSIVE in the 1960s, especially in the UK. You look back at the charts and they were battling it out with the Beatles and The Beach Boys for No1s.
I'm 0:59 seconds in, and "YES", this is the correct version. They are all older & grey, but those voices are sublime. I've watched this version many times.
The seeker's did a free concert at The Sydney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne in the 60s. Quite a two hundred thousand turned up to hear them. They kept the Beatles off of a number one spot with their song "Georgie Girl".
I cry every time I hear this, it is just wraps up our country so well. Why isn't this our national anthem, it says more about us than Advance Australia Fair.

My wife and I lived in Queensland for a couple years (75-77) and taught school in Brisbane. We have gone back twice to travel and have loved each trip which we have planned ourselves and not relied on a tour company. So many things in the history of our own country could be slotted into this song. Thank you for playing it.

They held an outdoor concert in Melbourne in 1967 and 200,000 people turned up to a venue that only held 20,000. They had a massive number of hits here and in the UK. ‘Morningtown Ride’, ‘The Carnival Is Over’, Georgie Girl, Another You, a World of our Own. To name a few.

My Great Grandfather was Henry James Everett who was grandson to Mannalargenna. I am also descended from Prince Matarra (died in 1808) son of Nga Ra and Te Pahi and was New Zealand Maori. He cut down Captain Cook's (the English explorer credited for 'discovering' Australia lol) mast when he visited New Zealand lol. I live in a small country town in the bush and I'm intensely proud to be Australian. My mother was particularly proud of our aboriginal heritage and unfortunately, she passed from cancer on the 28th of October, which is why I'm rediscovering my roots, and also why I haven't had any alcohol since the 22nd of September. Mike, I just wanted to say that this song has a great melody and the chord progressions are perfect and it moves people from other lands because it is so brilliantly written and performed, but it's initial story is that of a country that cannot possibly be understood by others. Even the "middle eight" of the song is most likely nonsensical to someone who has little idea of our history. The "outro" of the song is the song's greatest message. "I am, you are, we are Australian." All of us are one. Texan, Muscovite, Scandinavian, Pacific Islander, Bantu, Netherlander or from wherever. 🙂
I love your reactions, because I feel your genuine nature really comes through in them. I also appreciate the sentiment you shared about serving and feeling that pride and connection with country, and how you can see it's the same with us. Here in Australia we do have some state pride, particularly when it comes to sports like Rugby League's 'State of Origin', played between QLD and NSW every year. Or friendly rivalries and jokes about other states. However, maybe it's because of our smaller population in comparison to the US that we feel more of a general pride as Aussies that far, far outweighs any state pride, and also being so very isolated (distance-wise) from the rest of the world, we tend to stick together and help each other out. So that's it. Just FYI, Australia and the US are almost the same size in terms of land mass, but we only have around 27 million people to your 330+ million. Anyway, keep it up! The tv show "Dallas" was a huge hit down under, back in the day. Who Shot JR? was as big a discussion point down here, as it was in the U.S. So, many Aussies of that vintage knew a lot of "tv facts" of Texas, pre-internet.
This was kinda forgotten for a long time then the national public broadcaster (ABC, like BBC or PBS) used it as a station promo which surged it back into the national consciousness
They had a string of hits in the mid 1960's, and eventually broke up. Obviously reunited. When this was made the female lead Judith Durham had already faced severe health issues, so this was a final good-bye concert. This how they retired the group "Seekers" once and for all. The male lead, Bruce Woodley co-wrote the song in 1987. As good as it gets

A ‘bushie’ is someone who lives in the bush, or the the country, the outback, as opposed to a city dweller. A ‘battler’ is someone who lives a tough life. A Matilda is a swag, rolled up bedding, slung over a hobos back. When he walks it sways, or waltzes, so he is waltzing his Matilda. Usually a man who went from town to town looking for odd jobs and a bit of work. He had his Matilda, and a Billy can, a tin pot with a wire loop handle that he uses to make a pot of tea or cook in. The rock is of course Ayres Rock or correctly called Uluṟu now. The black soil of the plains, the drought and flooding rains refers to a poem called I Love a Sunburnt Country by Dorothea McKeller. “I love a sunburnt country, a land of sweeping plains, of ragged mountain ranges, of drought and flooding rains. I think Australians are very patriotic but in a different way to the US. Of course this is a generalisation, but I feel for most Australians it is personal, almost reverential and doesn’t need to be outwardly demonstrated. It is also not blind.

We all truly consider ourselves to be of 1 single nation, not a nation divided by states and territories to the point like Americans do.
The only real time you’ll see the Australian flag everywhere is in Australia Day.
Our two greatest adversaries are Cyclone and Bushfire - any time those disasters strike, the states and territories literally unite in every sense of the word.

I was born in England, but emigrated at the age of 4. So yes I'm English, but I'm proud to be an Australian citizen. As far as I'm concerned, i am Australian. Like Judith sang, we come from all the lands around the world. A massive mixing pot of people who all love Australia with pride. I love the song begins with the Aboriginal didgeridoo, for they were the first Australians for 40, 000. Years, as was sung. It's fitting for them to be recognised as the first Australian's, because for years they were persecuted and wronged. I hope they can feel the pride, that they were the first and accept our most humbled feelings for them. The Seekers sing, "i am, you are, we are all Australian ". Of all races. Im so proud MOST Australians feel that way. That we can say, G'day mate, to anyone here and they get it. That's what makes a true blue Aussie. Thank you for reacting to this song. Most people in Australia think it should be our national anthem, but the government won't do it. I would have loved it if dear Judith could have seen that happen before she died. Judith having suffered a stroke a year previous to this concert and at age 71 here. I commented in the other Seekers song reaction, Judith still brought forth her angelic strong voice in her 70s. We lost both Judith and Olivia Newton John in the same week in 2022 😢.

The Seekers were MASSIVE in the 1960s, especially in the UK. You look back at the charts and they were battling it out with the Beatles and The Beach Boys for No1s.

Judith had one of the purest voices I've ever heard. The Seekers had some big hits back in the 60's and it was all acoustic.

The seeker's did a free concert at The Sydney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne in the 60s. Quite a two hundred thousand turned up to hear them. They kept the Beatles off of a number one spot with their song "Georgie Girl".

My wife and I lived in Queensland for a couple years (75-77) and taught school in Brisbane. We have gone back twice to travel and have loved each trip which we have planned ourselves and not relied on a tour company. So many things in the history of our own country could be slotted into this song. Thank you for playing it.

From left to right, it’s Judith Durham, Keith Potger, Bruce Woodley who wrote the song, and Athol Guy on double bass. The Seekers were huge in the 60’s. Recipients of Australians of the Year award. They held an outdoor concert in Melbourne in 1967 and 200,000 people turned up to a venue that only held 20,000. They had a massive number of hits here and in the UK. ‘Morningtown Ride’, ‘The Carnival Is Over’, Georgie Girl, Another You, a World of our Own. To name a few.

G'day mate, I just wanted to say I enjoyed this reaction immensely. I am descended from Mannalargenna who was chief of the Ben Lomond tribe in Tasmania which later became Palawa (He's on Google). My Great Grandfather was Henry James Everett who was grandson to Mannalargenna. I am also descended from Prince Matarra (died in 1808) son of Nga Ra and Te Pahi and was New Zealand Maori. He cut down Captain Cook's (the English explorer credited for 'discovering' Australia lol) mast when he visited New Zealand lol. I live in a small country town in the bush and I'm intensely proud to be Australian. My mother was particularly proud of our aboriginal heritage and unfortunately, she passed from cancer on the 28th of October, which is why I'm rediscovering my roots, and also why I haven't had any alcohol since the 22nd of September. I enjoy your reactions and am also glad you're a proud Texan and American. Keep going mate, you're doing great.👍

Mike, I just wanted to say that this song has a great melody and the chord progressions are perfect and it moves people from other lands because it is so brilliantly written and performed, but it's initial story is that of a country that cannot possibly be understood by others. Even the "middle eight" of the song is most likely nonsensical to someone who has little idea of our history. The "outro" of the song is the song's greatest message. "I am, you are, we are Australian." All of us are one. Texan, Muscovite, Scandinavian, Pacific Islander, Bantu, Netherlander or from wherever. 🙂

I love your reactions, because I feel your genuine nature really comes through in them. I also appreciate the sentiment you shared about serving and feeling that pride and connection with country, and how you can see it's the same with us. Here in Australia we do have some state pride, particularly when it comes to sports like Rugby League's 'State of Origin', played between QLD and NSW every year. Or friendly rivalries and jokes about other states. However, maybe it's because of our smaller population in comparison to the US that we feel more of a general pride as Aussies that far, far outweighs any state pride, and also being so very isolated (distance-wise) from the rest of the world, we tend to stick together and help each other out. So that's it.
Just FYI, Australia and the US are almost the same size in terms of land mass, but we only have around 27 million people to your 330+ million. Anyway, keep it up! Glad you're enjoying our great Aussie music!

The tv show "Dallas" was a huge hit down under, back in the day. Who Shot JR? was as big a discussion point down here, as it was in the U.S.
So, many Aussies of that vintage knew a lot of "tv facts" of Texas, pre-internet.
This was kinda forgotten for a long time then the national public broadcaster (ABC, like BBC or PBS) used it as a station promo which surged it back into the national consciousness
They had a string of hits in the mid 1960's, and eventually broke up. Obviously reunited. When this was made the female lead Judith Durham had already faced severe health issues, so this was a final good-bye concert. This how they retired the group "Seekers" once and for all. The male lead, Bruce Woodley co-wrote the song in 1987. As good as it gets

As a Tasmanian I believe this should be the national anthem. It represents us the best, better than Waltzing Matilda or Advance Australia Fair.

We can be be proud of our country and be proud of being from here, and not feel unpatriotic if we criticise elements of our country we disagree with. This song is a celebration of our multiculturalism throughout our history. There are many here who only see Australia as a white anglo country. For disagreeing with that view many would call you unpatriotic. To others, like me, embracing multiculturalism is the ultimate expression of being Australian. We are one, but we are many, and from all the lands on Earth we come

Just some explanation. Albert Namatjira was an Indigenous Aboriginal painter. Ned Kelly was a bush ranger, (outlaw) on the run. Clancy on his horse is the subject of a famous poem, Clancy of the Overflow by A B (Banjo) Patterson who also wrote the famous Australian poem The Man From Snowy River. A ‘bushie’ is someone who lives in the bush, or the the country, the outback, as opposed to a city dweller. A ‘battler’ is someone who lives a tough life. A Matilda is a swag, rolled up bedding, slung over a hobos back. When he walks it sways, or waltzes, so he is waltzing his Matilda. Usually a man who went from town to town looking for odd jobs and a bit of work. He had his Matilda, and a Billy can, a tin pot with a wire loop handle that he uses to make a pot of tea or cook in. The rock is of course Ayres Rock or correctly called Uluṟu now. The black soil of the plains, the drought and flooding rains refers to a poem called I Love a Sunburnt Country by Dorothea McKeller. “I love a sunburnt country, a land of sweeping plains, of ragged mountain ranges, of drought and flooding rains. I love her far horizons, I love her jewelled sea. Her beauty and her terror. The wide brown land for me.”
