@@skullandcrossbones65 Mate, I remember when the current national anthem was adopted. The songs that the public were given to choose from were all old, with outdated sentiment and lyrics. They people that decided the songs the public could choose from we all from a dying generation and the song has been constantly changed since it was chosen to make it more relevant. I think its a crap national anthem. Although "I am Australian" wasn't written to be a national anthem, in my opinion it meets all criteria and does what a national anthem is meant to do, reparent everyone, describe us, unify us and instill a scenes of pride. I don't believe the current national anthem has ever done that...

@@angusmckenzie9622 That is the beauty of that song. Somewhere in the song, we can all relate to it. Regardless of how long we have been here, how we got here or where we came from. The song accept and speak to us all. I love it and perhaps you are right, perhaps it's just far too good to be our national anthem. My dad, born in England and came to Australia when he was 30. We are patriotic but we don’t feel the need to shove it down peoples throats. You will rarely see an Aussie flag in someone’s front yard or on their car. We don’t brag about living in Gods own country. We know how lucky we are to have the freedom that we have, the safety from mass shootings, sending our kids to school with no metal detectors or school police and no active shooter drills. Our country is beautiful and the more I travelled overseas the more I loved coming home to what we have here. It’s not perfect, but it’s a damn sight better than so many other countries. I worked for the police here for 15yrs, virtually no guns seen and certainly no handguns, and still am so grateful that I was born in this stunning country and that I have raised my son here.

We lost Judith in the same week as we lost Olivia Newton John. In this song she is leaning against a tall stool. She had a massive stroke and had to learn to walk and talk again. She was left with a lung disease from measles as a child but she never lost that voice. I love her singing When The Carnival is Over. Like Livvie, Judith was a very special lady and they are both missed. Thank you.

The difference is that Americans believe that they live in God's own Country and therefore they have to tell everyone of their love for their Country
We have been raised under different skies and
"Love our love a sunburnt country,
    A land of sweeping plains,
    Of ragged mountain ranges,
    Of drought and flooding rains.
    I love her far horizons,
    I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror -
The wide brown land for me"

They, like us, are very patriotic in their own ways, but we like to poke fun at each other from time to time. If you want to watch something very emotional (it bring me to tears each time I watch it) that shows the strength of brotherhood I suggest you check out the "2nd 1st Farewell Their Fallen Comrades with a Huge Haka".The Haka is a Maori ceremonial performance that conveys pride, strength and respect. I am really enjoying your reactions. Keep it going. Cheers from Australia.

      So true.
There’s very few lines we draw “a line under” and pit Viccie against New South Welshman or South Aussie vs Queenslander.
We all truly consider ourselves to be of 1 single nation, not a nation divided by states and territories to the point like Americans do.
The only real time you’ll see the Australian flag everywhere is in Australia Day.

I love your reactions, because I feel your genuine nature really comes through in them. I also appreciate the sentiment you shared about serving and feeling that pride and connection with country, and how you can see it's the same with us. Here in Australia we do have some state pride, particularly when it comes to sports like Rugby League's 'State of Origin', played between QLD and NSW every year. Or friendly rivalries and jokes about other states. However, maybe it's because of our smaller population in comparison to the US that we feel more of a general pride as Aussies that far, far outweighs any state pride, and also being so very isolated (distance-wise) from the rest of the world, we tend to stick together and help each other out. So that's it.
Just FYI, Australia and the US are almost the same size in terms of land mass, but we only have around 27 million people to your 330+ million. Anyway, keep it up! Glad you're enjoying our great Aussie music!

The seeker's did a free concert at The Sydney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne in the 60s. Quite a two hundred thousand turned up to hear them. They kept the Beatles off of a number one spot with their song "Georgie Girl".

REACT to qantas advertisement. I still call Australia home. Ive seen another u.s reactor "IWROCKER" cry when he saw it (He has become an honorary Aussie you are too)

    • @stephenanthony6508

That so called quantas advertisement is a Peter Allen song. Just because quantas ripped it off for an ad, doesn't make it a quantas song. Give credit where credit is due. Peter Allen was a famous Australian performer and singer songwriter.

@@stephenanthony6508 Well said. Score one for the songwriters. Mind you, the ad agency did a beautiful job with the presentation.

@@mrmockatoo6786 yes they did, certainly different than the film clip Peter recorded. The boy from Tenterfield. More famous in the USA than Australia.

I said advertisement i didnt say song. I love peter allen especially tenterfield saddler. I recommended because the qantas ad is emotional and quintessentially australian. My suggestion was because he valued our pride as aussies in the seekers reaction. Why did you find it necessary to have a go at me?

    • @stephenanthony6508
      @stephenanthony6508 2 місяці тому

@@freebirds67 because you failed to give the credit to the songwriter. Simple, it's a Quantas Advertisement using a Peter Allen song. You made it sound like it was a tune made for an Advertisement. Ohhhh, we don't have honorary Aussies. Your Australian or your not, Simple. Just because they are showing an appreciation for Australian and New Zealand bands doesn't make them an honorary aussie. Are you an honorary American because you like certain American bands? Nope. The whole damn add is based around the words of the song.

The tv show "Dallas" was a huge hit down under, back in the day. Who Shot JR? was as big a discussion point down here, as it was in the U.S.
So, many Aussies of that vintage knew a lot of "tv facts" of Texas, pre-internet.

I’m at home by myself after working a night shift and I just sang every word loudly and out of tune.. but I don’t care.. when aussies hear this song we sing it loudly and proudly..it should be our national anthem
Also I think the convicts that came to Australia must have been shocked by the heat after coming from the UK but if they were good they ended up being given 30 acres plus of land..it is thought that 20% of Australians are descendants from convicts..❤

I just watched your reaction video. Australian's are just like American's in their patriotism. We also have our disputes from state to state but if you were to put us in a room together and someone came in and bad mouthed our country then all hell would break loose.
It is very similar to when President Obama announced that Osama Bin Laden had been taken out and the Phillies were playing the Mets. Chants of USA were heard throughout the crowd. There wasn't a difference between fans that night, just Americans.
We love our country for all our differences and how we came to be.

Ex texan here! I'm got my Australian citizenship in Jan.
There's a major, huge difference in Australian patriotism vs American.
Their Patriotism is equality and freedom for all.
Ours, especially in texas is for the most part, oppression and taking away rights of others while forcing our religion onto others.
Here, every religion, non religion, creed, sexuality, race is accepted.
It's secularism is what makes it patriotic, huge difference.
