this camera really changed things for me. I'm really curious for the next endeavor. My heart is telling me to stay with the A7s family but the specs on the r5 look crazy..
Thankfully it looks like we won't have to wait long to compare the two cameras!
28th July
Be aware...
The R5 is a nice Allrounder cam... Targeted for Videographers who don't use it all day long (battery life and overheating)
BUT the 7sIII is a game changer again
Well, this comment didn't age well :D
Looks like the R5 failed the heat test :)
@@gabeminetti I was coming here to write this.
Anyone else still using a (relatively) old camera like me?! 😅
Yeah I’m rocking the Gh3 Matt 😅
I’m still using this camera til this day( Deonte wilder voice) 😎
Still with the a7sii as well!
I a7sii and 3 A7iii’s
im using a T5i and try to make enough to buy a better one lol
Sincerely spoken, pros and cons presented fairly while noting your personal biases, and infectious energy. Bravo!
As someone who works in television and uses both the fs7 and fs5, I’ve bought the a7sii as a b / bts / lowlight camera and haven’t looked back. Now looking forward to see what new goodies as7iii will bring ! Great piece as always.....
Still using my A7sii since 2016! Much thanks to you for sharing your thoughts and workflow with it. I would add that autofocus is another shortcoming with this camera. Fishing for days. While i truly love my A7sii, I can't wait to see what the A7siii will have to offer.
I remember watching you when you first made content with your a7s. You truly are the entire reason that I got into wedding filmmaking and also falling in love with the Sony a6300. Your joy has spread to hundreds of others including me. I couldn't be more thankful and I have absolutely no idea where I'd be without your content and Sony. To the future of more gear that brings us joy!
Thanks so much man, means a lot 😊
Thanks for the video, also dowloaded your PDF and found it very valuable, specially tip number 2. well done, keep it up Matt!
Thanks Matt. Always love your videos, so informative, helpful and much JOY.
Perfect Timing on this video!!! Your passion and insight are always joyful. Thank you Matt!
Thank you Matt for being truely honest in your reviews. I purchased a7s2 right after few runs with your vids. Huge reference for me. cheersss from Malaysia....
Wow! Superb vid Matt! Cheers.
I got this camera because of you and your enthusiasm a couple of months ago. Even though its now outdated I’m happy that I got it. It’s sexy and has a classic feel, and the lowlight is a must for me. Thanks for all the educational vids on it, that’s another reason I got it. I needed a trusty teacher and you’ve been that.
You made us realize, how much we love our A7 III cameras. Even though we are looking forward to upgrade our one camera to A7S III, it's still really a beast.
Hey Matt, great video. Your camera journey is very similar to mine. Its great to reflect on the low light king. I lost patience and moved over to the A7iii for the improved focusing system, but just like all videographers, I can't wait so see what the A7siii has in stall for us. 5 years in the making, this camera has some serious expectations.
You've explained things well and did a great job presenting it. Thank you!
MATT! Thanks for this, man, your reviews are superb! Excellent work, and all the best. ☮️
Matt - you got me in to filmmaking AND the sony system. Never a regret. Thanks, mate.
Hi Matt, I have been using the A7sii for almost as long as you, but I use it for underwater videos. I owe everything to you as I learned how to use it by watching your videos. I can't tell you how often that I have watch them, routinely going back and getting a refresher when I am heading out to a dive trip. I do not have an interest in wedding videography but I am always looking forward to your equipment videos. I have been looking forward to the new camera and am excited when I hear the rumors. I guess we will see. Thanks again for your content.
Great video thanks - helped with my decision on purchasing the A7sii. Liked and subscribed!
Felt like a best man speech for the a7sii who's finally tying the knot! Loved the homage.
Really awesome content,,really appreciate the advice as I decide to make my move to full frame😀
Awesome! Now I understand why your low light ambients are so clean, you convinced me Matt, gonna buy one and finally fix my A6500 low light frustrations 😉👍
Thanks! i use the 7sii for last 4 years, and i think i will use it for another 2 or 3.
great insight and examples as always! thanks
Such a nice video Mat!
For the first 12 minutes, I don’t feel much. But I do have strong feelings when you mention the “joy” this camera has brought you. I feel you.
I love my a7sii. Shot a feature on it over the last year and a myriad of other projects.
always a pleasure to hear you man, and yes I agree a7sii is a dream camera
Thanks Riccardo! 😁
Thank you young man. Enjoyed this video! Subbed.
I’ve been rocking my a7s (mark i) since 2014. Made a ton of money with it, never had a problem with it. Im considering buying a7sii and using my mark i for a B-Cam - thanks for a great video
Also have been rocking a7sii for 3 years and cant wait for the a7siii
Yes I'm using my A7SIII four years I love my sony quality
I'm still using my A7s 1 for B camera and for Whole coverage of wedding reception I'm still proud of using it because it still work well up today's. Pair it with my A73.
Just posted my mint A7RII up for sale cuz I want to upgrade to A7RIII. I’m more of a still photographer guy tho. Would love to have A7SII tho!
Great video, Matt! I've learned a lot with your informations, your footage and all the considerations. I'm not a wedding videomarker, but is very helpful to know the settings of some of your images and be able to check what result they produce in the images. I'm a big fan of your work and the way you comunicate. Cheers from Rio de Janeiro, Brasil.
Thanks Affonso!
Hell yes!!! My A7sii is my one and only main b$&@h and still killing competition in the middle of the night lol my a7sii has been my first mirrorless and it hasnt failed me..every time I pick it up it’s bringing that JOY and passion why I love to create ! Love your content Matt keep up your great videos man!
Thank you a lot for this review! Very useful :)
Great content here, thanks so much for sharing your perspective! You have a great, easy going speaking style :)
thanks for the review sir
Dude, your videos are awesome and the way you talk is so calming and chill that makes watching your content super relaxing. I'm looking into getting an A7 III (not the S - as that's still way out of my budget) but I did find a pretty decent A7 II kit for a very good price and was looking for opinions. It's 2021 and there are loads of options but I'm (much like you) a 5D II *bought on release* user + Fujifilm X-T3 got under my skin, however, I just can't get over the few times I rented a Sony camera and the pleasure of working with it. You certainly helped me take a more educated decision and I thank you for that and for sharing amazing content. Hat off to you sir!
Thanks! Would def go with the a7iii, it’s fantastic
@@whoismatt I'm honoured to have your opinion. Many thanks.
hey thanks for your contents!! VERY HELPFUL! APPRECIATE YOU!
Hmm joy.. I think that's a great point. I mainly shoot videos with a GH5 right now and paired with the 12-35 f2.8 II has eliminated soooo much gear that I needed to carry including extra lenses and gimbal. The sensor crop feature has been such a game changing feature for me. The custom map buttons cut down all the time needed to fumble through the menu. Truly being able to have such a simple setup with fantastic results definitely brings me joy haha
Thanks man, you are very genuine
You’re spot on with finding a camera that brings you joy. I’m so tired of my 7D because of its lack of autofocus for video and it’s average video quality. The photography ability of my 7D is still solid, but after buying the Osmo Pocket, my 7D feels like a dinosaur for video work. The Osmo sucks at low light and is average at auto focus, but at least the 4k60p isn’t gimmick quality when I have 3 or more of my lights set up.
Oh man! I still use my A7S II every single week! I absolutely adore it! Even when the new camera comes out, I'll probably hold onto this for an extra year or so before upgrading. Not sure I've gotten the most out of it for me, yet.
Incredible review with no fluff
This is how I wanna be with my A7III. Keep it for 5 years and still love it.
Find a camera that brings you joy - perfect advice. Lots of reviewers miss this very important fact. A tool can inspire you to create if you enjoy using it. That's why it's not always wise to buy the biggest most expensive option just because you can...find this secret sauce instead. So excited for the a7siii. 4K 60p and improved stabilization is enough upgrade for me.
I’ve used the a6500 for 3 years. Built a full time job shooting real estate with it. The 4K in it is amazing. I will be upgrading to the A7Siii though 🤘🤘
Still use our A7sii! Debating about selling it and buying 2 A7Siii's when they come out, as I did upgrade to the A7iii when it first came out.
Thanks so much!!!! Nice work!!!
Thanks again because I'm looking for this camera and your passion for this magic machine convincing me..
Le deseo lo mejor en su apasionado trabajo de hacer cine!!!
Saludos mil y más!!!
Great video. What’s the next version coming out? I’m doing some purchases today. Thanks a billion.
Loved the video! FYI I have this and also an A7III and the A7sII overheats less often (and the original A7s never overheated on me, ever).
Cheehoo @makaicreative! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Great stuff. Shooting S-Log2 and especially S-Log3 in 8bit is a major no no for me though. I've shot regularly on the A7Rii and the GH5s and there is a grand canyon difference between the robustness of their LOG images (due to the superior codec on the GH5s). The difference is so vast that I dropped shooting in LOG with the A7Rii altogether.
I love my a7s2 and am thinking of purchasing a second but will probably wait to see what happens with this sony a7s3. Hopefully it comes sooner than later.
Fantastic Video. Thank you very much! :-)
Still use these every weekend.
love my a6300. 6k downscaled to 4k is amazing.
I am not a professional photographer and just upgrade from A7 (probably back 2014) to A7 this year and it is a remarkable upgrade.
I still use this camera along with 2 other a7iii. The recent years I havent used it as much because of the auto focus. But still a camera I use from time to time.
Matt,. You're my Guru ❤️
I use powerbank 12.000mah and had never problems running out of battery..
4:35 that look on her face 😂 loving it
Technology hasn't progressed yet unless I hug you through internet for this great positive feeling video, dear Matt! 😅🤷♂️😎
im waiting for my 3rd a7sii.
great video, contemplating this camera for surfing vids, how do you think this camera is for sports etc? Your slow motion in this video looks really clean and awesome what were your settings? I here the Sony mount offers more options for lenses what are your thoughts? thanks so much
I, a sony fan boy, agree with Matt on this one! hahaha
I love Sony mirrorless cameras, I've been wanting a 7sii for yearsss but couldn't afford it. I do own a sony a6300 and I'm thinking about finally upgrading to a 7sii :)
I just upgraded from a Canon 5D Mark 3 to a Canon R6. I'm primarily a wedding photographer but wanting to do some video as well. That new Sony a7s3 is tempting but way beyond my price range. The Fuji xt4 is also tempting with the 240fps.
Big fan of your videos. A7siii looks exciting. A bummer with the EOS R5 was the horrendous IBIS wobble in Peter McK's vlog yesterday. Did you see it? What is your experience with the Sony IBIS on wide angle, is it usable? The R5 IBIS definitely wasn't usable on wide angle. Maybe A7siii will be.
I remember your FS5 review. I was wondering what happened to that camera. I have a feeling that the A7Siii will be more of a melding of the fs100 and the A7Sii. I prefer the 'camcorder' feel rather than the photo camera ergonomics, so I'm hopeful that the FS line makes a return to the smaller form factor with a mirrorless camera price.
Hey, if it works, why change anything. Hey Matt, I was trying to find that microphone grip sleeve you use for mixing up microphones for speeches for weddings, where did you get it? Also, do you shoot weddings in s log?
This enthusiastic review is almost buying me an R6 as it just seems to be the equivalent camera of today :)
I had the A7s for years as the II was very expensive (was very close to buying a new one at the right price, turned out to be a clever ebay scam, but got the money back)
But went the EOS R after that, I am sure the A7sIII will be better, but it will not be nearly as "cheap" as the R6, it will be high-end stuff
I found that joy with the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 6k :)
great video , what lens was on your body in this video
still using the sony a7s with atomos ninja recorder, and the a7iii. loving the prores :D
Any tips to improve af on this bad boy?mainly will use ir to shoot wedding vid
I'm still using my Canon T3-I As a beginner for weddings.
Still a great camera, especially for the price!
@@whoismatt T2i user here lol literally researching what best low budget can to buy. Guess I’m getting the A7Sii. Great video on this channel!
As someone who just purchased an A7SII, what are the top 5 lenses you'd encourage me to look at?
Do you use the a7sii with autofocus? Or do you go manual most of the time?
I’m using canon sl2 ❤️
I’m still using this camera in 2023, and wanted to know if you recommend slog3 over Matt flat from your previous setup tutorials ?
Cheers
What are some good settings for cinematic video
Hey Matt does the new Rf canon lens have a adapter to fit the new A7 sony camera
Hey Matt what PP are you filming in now????? This vid is beautiful looking
This one was shot in cine4. I’m filming in slog3 now with the a7siii
thanks!
i have a sony a6400 with an 11mm and 56mm lens but I'm confused should i go for a sony a6700 or buy with a low price of sony a7s2 as a secondary camera also having a sony a6400 . What should i do sell my sony a6400 move to sony a6700 or stuck with a sony a6400 and buy sony a7s2 for my still videos
I am loving my Z6. Just wish I had 10 bit internal. Where can I ask questions buddy???
*Matt WhoisMatt Johnson* I looking for your next video
Sony A7SII; I was trying your set up settings, and now in the lower right corner of the screen, I have "TV" right above the ISO. I Can't find what this is in the manual. Any Idea's?
I'm surprised that you get by with only 9? batteries. I have the same 2 cameras setup with battery grips and I recently found that having 22 batteries was borderline not enough, like I had to keep two chargers going to keep them charged. Ye,s it was grueling days shooting. Lots of hours, but still.. Only 9 handles a wedding surprises me. Oh, and just to be clear: I am NOT complaining about the battery life. I think it's just right, though I am appreciating the bigger ones in the a7siii.
Hello, I had a Sony A7II and connected a dummy battery to a NP-F990 for video recording. My question is: for Sony A7C and Sony A7IV can I only operate the camera with USB type C without a dummy battery? If feasible please provide link to product. I tried it but it doesn't work, the settings on the camera are also set to USB-ON.
Thanks so much
people who know things about cameras are there any competitor cameras or anything you recommend for low light that is around the same price as the a7sii? so like between 700 and 900 used? besides the gh5s
I love whoismattt #WhoIsMatt?
Overall, I loved the A7S-II but I did damn sure hate the super "splotchy" color noise and heavy banding in the shadows in SLog-2 or 3.
Is the best camera in the alpha films
cant wait to get the s2 this year after using my a6000 until today..... im so damn hyped
Big upgrade! 💪
@@whoismatt check my stuff when u bored could be interesting for u i think. I more into a very diferent style of filming but check it
In 2015 I upgraded from Canon 1D Mark IV to Sony a7R II for $3200USD. I'm a portrait photographer and I used manual focus lenses since I started making photos in the mid 80s. I adapted my lenses to the Sony mount. Finally moving to autofocus lenses and I decided to go with the Panasonic S5. Not the Mark II. I spent less than $3000 for a camera, grip, 70-200mm f4 lens, extra battery and SD card. Hoping for at least 5 years from this system. And yes, I am going from 42mp to 24mp. Not worried as I only ever needed those extra pixels when I messed up my shot. And really, 12mp is probably enough.
Hey mate, did the camera working good for a photographer?
Do you use it also for photography??
