- Today we're going to find out if the Sony A7SII is worth buying in 2019! This camera basically crushed the low light recording game by practically being able to see in the dark.
And yeah its impressive to this day, but low light might not be the only thing important for creating online content so we're going to go through this old camera to see if it still stacks up for those of us creating video today.

Great review. I love the angle that you are shooting you A-roll the best out of all the recent setups that you have used. Keep up the great work!
Thanks so much! I’ve definitely been working on getting a better looking main cam shot 😁👍
When you switched from Canon to Sony that told me everything I needed to know. With Canon after sony it was like watching you through a fog
because of your awesome video - I purchased a Sony A7S II for it's low light video capabilities. I do nature videos and sometimes at night, so I am looking forward to it's low light capabilities. I also found out that the 12MP camera is very capable of capturing professional images used in print or digital formats. The only thing you wouldn't want to do is heavy cropping, but I don't do that anyway. Thanks for your awesome video! Stay Well!
lol I love the line "You're just dying to record stuff in a cave... " lol lol
Thank you very much for the video! Using this camera since 2015 and it was a great purchase, i have still several years of work ahead. But .... Would you buy it now? no way!
This camera is my everyday camera! I've had it since 2016; still love it & filming everything on it.
It's interesting that in the seconds from 4:54 to 4:57 , when you're talking about color, the colors in your video shift from green to red (on my uncalibrated monitor, btw.) . I'm guessing you had a cc adjustment layer that overlapped from the previous clip. I do that from time to time. No biggie but, just in case you wanted to know. I still have the A7SII btw. Still a strong camera many years into it's useful life. I DO favor my A6500 most of the time, though, when there's lots of light.
Everyday Dad's jump transitions are the best. No presets needed.
Everyday dad . I love that lol . Very relatable
just bought mine this july 29th the day you posted this video , so random
I switched from video cameras to the Sony mirrorless dslr . Great and light weight for gimbal. I shoot a lot of weddings and having lightweight gear is a huge help for me . I would deff still buy one in 2019 . 4K in camera and 120 FPS at 1080 .
I think the focus is fine and still use face recognition and continuous focus .
A few things I don’t like is that the batteries die super fast . I have to bring a external battery to connect to it while shooting long ceremonies . Also, the sensor gets dirty pretty easy. There are also a lot of attachments you can buy . I would not recomend that audio thing he showed instead go for a zoom recorder .
Being only a videographer I highly recommend . Full frame and super slow mo . It is expensive but you pay for quality . This camera will get you professional gigs .
You could also get a Sony A-mount lens adapter to E-mount, works with electronics, and Sony A-mount lenses are dirt cheap. That is, if you can get a camera body but can't afford lenses.
Seems this is the ideal camera for my work that requires a really good low light performance and dark environment: shooting videos of high voltage electrical discharges.
Dont know if anyone gives a damn but if you are bored like me during the covid times then you can stream all of the latest series on instaflixxer. Been binge watching with my gf for the last few weeks :)
@Terrell Braxton Yea, I've been watching on Instaflixxer for since november myself :)
This sensor was not 4 year old at 2019, it was 7 year old. It's already an 11 year old sensor and still performs perfectly, and it will do so forever since this quality of 4k will never become obsolete, there's only so much pixels the human eye can use
hey what do you think about the sony fdr ax53 camcorder?
When it switched from Canon to Sony video quality its night and day. The Canon video quality is terrible!
I agree, the Sony was extremely better.
Please there is not a apple's to apple's difference. Canons professional video gear have never been beaten by Sony.
Have to had a chance to use the a7siii? I’d be interested to hear your take on it.
That after-sundown image quality looked very good (stabilization, meh) -- but I'd like to see a comparison from other cameras at that same time of day -- Panasonic, Canon EOS R, etc....
Thanks!
Love the low light capabilities. Only because not allot of cameras shine in this department but dang, it better wash my dishes for that price tag.
I know right 🤣
more a7ii content plz! and also RP for photography.... thanks
Asmund Erickson he doesn’t do anything around photography
can you make a video with sony a6400 vs ax53????
Yahno. I'd go A7III or something else. That low light performance is impressive though!
Cool video.
Nice angle I like imac in the back
Thanks! I’m definitely trying some new looks out 😁👍
Can you please upload z6 footage and eosr footage taken in same lighting conditions and in same glasses
One reason why im still staying with the a7S ii over the a7 iii is because of the unlimited recording time. Even though I have to hacked it to get the camera to go beyond 30 minutes, it is worth it. I do have speeches that goes past 30 minutes so i do need that unlimited recording time. Now i am aiming for an a7S iii
Well, how about switching from sony a 7ii to sony a 7S ii? Would this be a dumb move? Since I'm still happy with my a 7 ii but it's kinda suck in low light a bit
Poxer TV, not really a dumb move but more like will you be video recording more than photo shooting? a7ii is great for taking photos and I still use that camera today. But not great for video recording because it doesn't have picture profiles. a7Sii is the camera to go with if you want to do video recording since it has 4K option and all the picture profiles such as Cine4 and S-log 2. It doesn't have H-log though but i rarely use H-log on my a7iii. Those 2 cameras serves different purposes so if you can afford both, do it! I use my a7sii mainly for video recording and no photo shooting. Only time i take photos with it if i have no other options.
I'm curious, what she's the A7III need that Sony will realistically give it? The II is still the best for low light, they won't up the res, they won't give a flip screen, they won't give it better video than the RIII. Really, they will put the new focus in, maybe a BSI sensor, and the rest will be more or less the same, right? No?
I soooo wanted to buy this till u said contrast based auto focus 😂
Must you have a lens mounted before you can take a photo?
the image quality from sony is so much sharper than the canon image.
Would I regret buying this over an XT3 today? I’ve always wanted this camera but now I’m wondering if the a7sii is well past it’s prime...
A7IV , A7SIV ( if they skip calling it A7SIII ); whatever it is it has to come out . IMO I much prefer a7iii. A7RIV has a new sensor and what ive heard it also has improved color science from its predecessor. Even though it hasn't come out, I am pretty hyped for the A7RIV since I am a photographer.
Would you do EOS R or The A7s ii?
Is it worth if I take A7S II till I can afford A7 III or it will lose a lot of its price after 1 year.. Because I wonder if I take it for 1400$ bucks right now will it be possible to sale it for 1200$ after 1 year or a year and half?
Best Buy last item $1000 is a good deal? At March 2020?
yeees, a7s3 is here now! hahah
I think low light is extremely important for the online creator. Especially in the edm/rap/fashion world right now. They love LEDs and dark rooms lol.
Amen
Do you guys recommend this for concert footage?
Lynt It’s amazing for concerts. I shoot video for a lot of concerts. Just make sure you have a low f stop on your lens
Yes . Looks amazing at shows . That’s Probably the best place for this camera
I still haven’t figured it out.
Just picked one up for $800 usd. Prices are dropping like rocks.
is that used or new?
That's a killer price. How did you like it?
@@Sitti2300 very clean only 1000 clicks came with a cage 6 batteries and two chargers
@@averageguy1261 Thanks man it’s a magic camera in low light. It can really see in the dark. Also picked up a mint condition A7Rii with 3k actuations for 700usd + sony oss FE kit zoom 4 batteries and charger for another 200usd. Prices are dropping like rocks.
dang, how did you get that a7sii for only $800? Even a used one today still averages at $1,200. Only time we will see the a7Sii dropped in price is when the a7Siii come outs if ever.
I want you to take a night view of the airport with α7sII .
3:37 a7siii?
For my real estate videos... it’s insane! Literally crazy! Low light beast and world champion still today. But not as all around versatile as the A7Iii
Yeah that's a high price point for a almost 5 year old camera. To me for the money id go for the a7iii. You get the battery, color science n auto focus. Love these type of videos sir!!
Yeah I’d go with the a7iii too, and for all the reasons you laid out 😁👍
Lee O Frey that’s what I did. I sold that a7s2 I got the A7III.
Is this camera good for live-streaming ?
Which is better In low light? Sony a7iii or Sony a7sii?
What would you consider a good deal on this camera?
I wish Sony would up date the A7III, A6500 and X3000. They do EVERYTHING else.... Not sure why....
I have this camera
@The Everyday Dad, "I would not go into this unless you can get an absolutely screaming deal"...what would you consider a screaming deal for this in 2020?
Whatever you think is a good price, then go for it.
I can purchase the body rigtht now for 1186. Is it worth it?
Did you get it?
make test GH5s ;)
i wanna start making films with a good camera like 4k but I don't know much about cameras, what camera would you recommend me???
I love canon
Just picked one up for 1100. I think it’s a good deal haha
Tarnjot Ojla with lens?

Thomas Watts yeah I got super lucky!
The color a bit weird
Used? Absolutely. New? Hell no, lol.
Got mine for $1000 so I'm chillin

@@karimdari9371 ebay
@@JuniorKubes you got it used or grey market ?
@@karimdari9371 used and it came with a free gimbal lol, if u wanna find the best deal just check everyday till somthin comes up
@@JuniorKubes fr, got mine for 1300, just gotta look for deals, theyre everywhere
Good camera but simply too costly...for a camera in this time. For that amount of creds you can buy another option and get better value for your money and still make a living.
Only 12 megapixels? How a7ii have 24 megapixels right?
S in sony a7s means sensitivity, R in sony a7r means resolution, it means sony a7s made for video, sony a7r made for photo, and sony a7 made for both, so why sony a7s only have 12 megapixels?, cause sony a7s made for video not photo, in video megapixel is not necessary
Thanks
To go a little more in-depth, on a camera sensor less megapixels means larger pixels on the sensor. Larger pixels absorb more light so a 12.2 megapixel camera is much better in low light than say my a7R II’s 42 mp. A current model like the a7 III has superb low light from 50-6,400 iso because of an improved sensor. In the case of an a7s II it’s still useful if you’re shooting very very low light and you can still shoot cleanly up to around 25,000 iso. Hell you can crank up to 100,00 iso and see in the dark if you want, but it’s not clean but still performs better than anything on the market.. so the lesson here is use the right equipment for what you ask of it. Hope this is helpful and keep shooting guys!
I'm from the future
It doesn’t seem like it’s worth it in the grand scheme of things.
... and first!
First response, yeah I personally think there are better options out there right now for the price 👍
@@TheEverydayDad whats currently the best camera for video out right now?
Bring on the S III
Someday we’ll get it 😭😭
@@TheEverydayDad Will we get the A7R V before it is the question ;)
Sony is the master of hype that's why they delay releases 😂
Sony has a wayyyyyy better audio amplifier than Canon.
Soo does this guy still doesn't like photography
I don't get it. It's a camera, why is its video quality so important? It's nice, but as a photographer, I'd never shop for a video camera that shot great photos. Very informative video, just not for a photographer.
No, it doesn't worth buying. Take a look at Blackmagic
