I've always been a atheist, and I grew up in Oklahoma. Everything Doug says in this is absolutely true. I've been beatin up several different times and thrown out of school for admitting i didn't believe their nonsense. I've been discriminated against in multiple different ways for speaking the truth about who I am, and my lack of belief.

I worked disaster relief in Moore and El Reno after the latest tornadoes. Let me tell you about Oklahoma christlers. In El Reno members of my team came across a young couple and their infant child. They stopped to help the family because, shockingly, while other homes were swarming with volunteers these folks were being isolated - turns out a rumor had gone around the block that the parents had smoked pot in the past, and the good ol' christian boys wouldn't so much as lend them a blanket. Their home was absolutely destroyed and no one would come out to lend them a hand. The very same christians who, over and over again, told us how thankful they were god sent people like us to help.

The point is that it's a tragedy all around, and thanking God doesn't make those people anymore worthy of being helped. Saying she doesn't believe in God doesn't make her a bad person. People seem to equate atheism to a lack of moral structure or code, and clearly that's not the case. Sadly, there are many Christians who wouldn't help an atheist woman. They more than likely wouldn't be able to resist verbally lashing out at her. Atheists are not nearly as vindictive.

I'm not against belief even if those beliefs aren't true. Religion, on the other hand has a policy of recruitment and policy change that is harmful. Also, if that was satire, you failed. For satire to work it needs at least a slight exaggeration to get its point across. What you wrote was to close to rationalizations I've heard before.
