I agree! I have wavy hair, much longer than yours, and no matter which curly method I try it makes it worse, and the more steps - the worse it is too. They claim that waves are just another form of curls, but I don't agree, and I'm amazed at how many products and steps some people use. I hate upside down styling! It just makes it frizzy and crazy and disturbs the waves. This is the first video of yours I've watched.
Hey @katgirlblue - I am 100% with you; also hate upside down styling. Wavy hair is not curly hair. Same way it's also not straight hair. Thanks for watching and taking the time comment, hope you'll stick around for other videos 😊
Tori, I absolutely agree with each point you made in your excellent video. I wish that resources like your channel had been available for me when I started to wear my natural wavy-wurly texture but way back then the only advice available was for curly hair and even that movement was in its infancy. I tortured myself for years trying to make the Curly Girl Method work for my hair (I must've read that blasted book umpteen times hoping to figure out why it wasn't working for me) but co-washing and the really heavy products for curly hair began to ruin my scalp and my hair never behaved the way that curly hair behaved. I didn't realise I was following the wrong template. A long period of illness led to me not having time or energy to mess with my hair so it's only in the last few years that I've taken up the challenge again. I found SwavyCurlyCourtney's channel and your channel and I've been able to put together a couple of styling routines this year that work for just about any day I'm having. It's been great learning how to take care of my natural texture the second time around because, as you advise, I embraced the fact that I have wavy hair not curly hair and that has made things go more smoothly (pardon the pun). And I've learned to like my hair with lots of varying levels of frizz and definition, I've learned that wavy hair isn't going to look exactly the same every time it's styled or last perfectly between washes - I've finally learned tolerance for my hair 😊 So please keep on making videos for as long as you feel inclined because you are giving lots of helpful advice. And if you have advice for older women as to hair and hormones, I'd love to hear it. As I get older my hair has been thinning a bit and the wave pattern has changed too so I'm all for sharing tips and tricks 👍
Hey @Nic. Thank you so much for taking the time to write this comment. It’s so lovely to hear that I’m helping someone and that someone else feels the same as I do about waves vs curls. Sorry to hear you’ve had such a struggle because I know how frustrating it can be and ultimately we just want our hair to look nice, I don’t think that’s a huge ask ☺️ I hope you’re all recovered now from you illness. There are so many factors that affect hair I think particularly as we get older - stress, health, deficiencies, hormones … I would like address some of these in a video at some stage. I def plan to carry on making videos so look forward to chatting again at some point 😊😊 have a lovely day x
Garnier fructose detangler and air dry spray has been amazing for my fine wavy hair. It’s silicone free, lightweight and tames my frizz so much. I just purchased two backups. And I have tried tons of hair products.
I haven’t tried that one - we don’t get many of the fructis line up in the Uk which is a massive shame. When I was in the USA earlier this year I got an air dry cream from the range and it’s amazing. Wish I’d tried more but I’m going to Florida next year so will definitely be stocking up 😂
I really loved this video Tori. Your cat is gorgeous. I adore cats and we have two. I would love to see a video on how health and hormones affect our hair. I always had fine hair, but a lot of it. Then when I went through the menopause, it went so much thinner and would snap off a lot. I don’t colour my hair and last had highlights in September 2017. I am very lucky though that my hair has gone like a white blonde colour. My late Nanna was the same. When my parents passed away many moons ago, each time my hair went from being wavy to nearly straight. Both times it took just over a year for my waves to fully come back. My hairdresser said it was all the grief and stress, which did it, and he also said when I was going through the menopause that all the hormone changes had contributed to my hair going thinner and snapping off. I need to wash my hair every other day as it is goes so greasy at the roots. Is there a shampoo that you could recommend please for giving my hair moisture to help stop the dreaded frizz, whilst not being too heavy that it makes my roots even greasier. Thank you so much. X
Ah thank you so much, she is called Boston, she's a Ragdoll which means she's an indoor cat and spends most of her time fast asleep 😊 What are your cats called? I think stress and hormones have such a huge impact on our overall health and it definitely shows up in our hair, skin and nails. I'm sorry to hear about your parents. My dad dies 18 months ago and I know the grief and stress has definitely played a part in my hair woes. In terms of a moisturising shampoo I really rate the bond repair one from Aldi, the wave revival shampoo from Rhyme and Reason is also fantastic and the Maui moisture shampoos - either the coconut one or the hibiscus one would be really good options for you I think based on what you've said about frizz and oil management. I'm not sure any shampoo is going to make a massive difference to frizz but they definitely won't strip your hair or make frizz any worse and do a great job at cleansing your scalp and roots. Oh what a balancing act it is. Thank you so much for all your comments and watching my videos it's such a joy to hear from you and whether my videos are helpful, really appreciate it. 😊x
I love her name. Ragdoll cats are absolutely beautiful. Our two cats are both rescue cats, a boy and a girl. Ozzy is all black and Lola is all black with a little bit of white at the top of her chest and down the bottom of her tummy. They are not related, but are incredibly close. Like Boston they are indoor cats. So sorry to hear about your dad‘s passing. Losing a parent is horrendous. Thank you so much for all of the recommendations and I will check them all out. I really do appreciate the help. Really looking forward to your next video. Take care. X
I totally, totally agree re the curly hair care info vs wavy hair info and there does seem to be less about wavy hair than curly. It’s trial and error and my hair needs far fewer products than it used to now it’s in better condition. In regard to frizz, as we get older, frizz can look way less attractive in my opinion and guess what, I am older lol so I’m not going to rock the Carrie Bradshaw look these days! Thanks for your videos.
Hey Maggie, yes same here I think I did need more products when my hair was more damaged, good point! Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment.
Hi Tori, I love your videos! I just recently discovered my hair is wavy (2a/2b) and your quasi-bowl method video has been a godsend. Could you do a video tutorial on how to make coils with the Denman brush? Every time I try I just get my hair tangled up in it and get no curl at all.
Hi Abbott, thanks so much for your lovely comment and I love that description of my bowl method - quasi-bowl....I'm definitely using that from now on! Yes absolutely, I've been thinking about making a video showing different brushes and different curl clump techniques so I could include it in that. I do also have a dedicated denman styling routine to create thicker fuller looking waves - have you seen that one already? I'll link it here in case you haven't ... ua-cam.com/video/lwRriv5qMxo/v-deo.html

Holy moly I think I have wavy hair haha. My hair goes super curly when I do the curly routine but I honestly hate it and the tight curls fall out and look terrible the next day. Hoping I can figure out something that works for my hair one day instead of constantly styling it
Welcome to Wavyville 😂 it’s the best I promise. A one and done is a great place to start - one product to help reduce frizz, enhance the natural pattern of your hair and they usually have a bit of hold too. Good luck - let me know if I can help in anyway 🙂
I’m a male, my biggest enemy is poofiness and dryness. Ive got thick wavy hair. I’ve never used wavy hair products and methods but your videos have definitely inspired me to give it a go. It’s just so hard trying to figure out the right products to buy when there’s so many options and differing ingredients! My skin is also quite sensitive so it is annoying that so many hair products have pore clogging ingredients.
Hi. It is overwhelming when you start googling what products to use - like you said, there are so many available now it’s really hard to know what you actually need. I’d recommend keeping it really simple and just addressing one thing at a time. Start with a hydrating shampoo and moisturising conditioner. I personally always use a leave in conditioner that is also a heat protectant. Then I’d also just mostly like opt for 1 styling product (I’d personally use a gel) and finish my routine with an oil. The gel and oil will help lock in moisture to your hair which should help with the dryness and that’s what will be also creating some of the poofiness. One last thing you maybe also would benefit from is a treatment - is your hair heat damaged or colour treated? If it is I’d go for a protein treatment and if not go for a hydrating mask. Make sure you really fully rinse and cleanse conditioner because this can cause clogged pores and spots. If your skin is sensitive I’d also try to avoid fragrance in products - quite often listed as parfum in the ingredients list. Hope that’s not all too much info, let me know if you have any questions 🙂
@@Tori_Hunter Hi Tori, thank you for the feedback that was quite helpful 😊. I do have just a few questions, should I look for hydrating shampoos and moisturising conditioners that is tailored for wavy and/or curly hair? Or does it not make much of a difference in that regard? And with using something like gel, do you rinse your hair everyday due to the gel hardening? I feel that when I rinse my hair without shampoo or conditioner my hair can smell a bit funky so I usually avoid it. In terms of styling products I use a leave in conditioner and argan oil although I don’t think my conditioner has been the best with accentuating my waviness, so I was thinking about looking into curl creams. And lastly, do you usually apply these products everyday? I personally add a bit when I feel that my hair has dried up the next day, but I’m not sure if build up has contributed to making my hair harder to deal with. Thank you ♥️ (I apologise for the essay)
