    You might as well. I didn't need a custom recovery at the time, but it's a useful tool to have.

    Perfect tutorial no matter how you look at it, a true gem compared to the nightmare videos people post in attempts to explain rooting. I will subscribe....keep them coming!!!

    It's that easy, just hit the "Restore Android Backup File" from restore menu. Be warned though, all this rooting and unlocking could lead to permanent loss of data and device failure. I use my Nexus 7 as a lab rat so I put it through hell, but if your Nexus 7 is your primary tablet device, be very cautious.

    Go into "Settings->About Tablet" and look at the Model Number.

  • @sakitech

    The first step is ALWAYS unlocking (as in, unlocking the bootloader)

  • @sakitech
    @sakitech  11 років тому

    This is the most annoying part. Did you already try running "USBDeview.exe" and removing all drivers titled along the lines of "Android ADB Interface", "Samsung USB devices", and such? Make sure your Nexus is disconnected while you are doing this. After removal of these drivers are complete, install PdaNet Drivers (making sure Nexus 7 IS NOT connected to the PC) ... does it work? Let me know.

    You guys catch everything, lol.

  • @sakitech
    @sakitech  11 років тому

    Absolutely not. Plus, the whole process is reversible. You can unroot and relock if you really had to. If you go to my website you can search for "How to RESTORE / REINSTALL STOCK ANDROID to your Nexus 7" I have full instructions for it. My website link is in the description of the video.

    I personally think PDANET drivers are the best. But you should try going with the "recommended solution" that shows up right next to the three options.

  • @sakitech
    @sakitech  11 років тому

    It's supposed to boot up normally after being unlocked. But behind the scenes, it should be unlocked, as long as you didn't get any fail messages or anything anywhere.

  • @sakitech
    @sakitech  11 років тому

    Yes, all existing data (such as music, photos, videos, app data) is wiped and you go back to factory.

  • @sakitech
    @sakitech  11 років тому

    Well, basically, backup your photos, music and videos. Unlocking in this case means "unlocking the bootloader". It is a prerequisite before you root your device. Unlocking the bootloader allows you to run custom/multiple ROMS on your device. Carrier unlock is a different concept and a different process.

  • @sakitech
    @sakitech  11 років тому

    It's optional. Right before you click the "ROOT" button on the Nexus Root Toolkit, check the "custom recovery" option, and then click ROOT. And you will get it.

  • @sakitech
    @sakitech  11 років тому

    When you are in boot-loader mode or fast-boot mode, do you see a tiny "locked" text anywhere on the screen? How are you determining if it isn't unlocked is what I need to understand.

    It's the iPad stand by Rocketfish. Copy and paste this in youtube search: zh4nGEqnU4g ... it will lead you to a video I made reviewing that stand and where you can buy it. It won't hold a Nexus 7.

  • @sakitech
    @sakitech  11 років тому

    Yes, you will continue getting updates without problems. And no syncing problems.

  • @sakitech
    @sakitech  11 років тому

    Well, you can always exit out of boot mode, and come back into it. Just power of your tablet and restart the process. Now, if your device ever gets bricked (meaning it stops responding entirely), it's fully fixable. I put a link in the description of this video which is titled "How to Restore Nexus 7 to original factory setting"

    Thanks for this video, reviving necrotech in 2024 :-) Ironically had to learn how to use wine to open the rootkit so I can install Ubuntu with Ubuntu. New user. The NRT has changed a little too, step 3 is now step 4. Working my way through just now, I'll update if successful.
    Update: So far struggling to get the nrt to recognize the connection to the tablet. If I use lsusb in the command line it shows up as: "Nexus/Pixel Device (MTP + debug)" but Im getting no fingerprint connection prompt. I have toggled mtp setting as suggested and the debug mode, different ports and cables. I can access the storage on the device in file manager, but getting No ADB/FASTBOOT devices found in NRT
    I assume I'm talking to myself on this old vid, but if I can fix this I'll log it here. Likewise any help greatly appreciated

  • @dokotellaannanderson3627
    @dokotellaannanderson3627 11 років тому

    s I understand it, once unlocked, the device is set back to original and all apps and personal data etc are lost; this does not happen; instead, it boots back up in the usual, normal way.
    Nevertheless, in case it is in fact unlocked, I have tried to go on and Root the device. It goes through the various steps but "Root Checker" confirms No Proper Root access.
    I wonder if this is all because my device is running Android 4.2.2. and not 4.2.1.

    No,No. The point is that I have been unable to unlock. All the preliminary moves have been done successfully, drivers installed and the "success" message received. Control Panel/Device manager shows "Android Phone - Android Composite ADB Interface and "Device working properly".
    On the device, USB debugging is clicked and Developer Options is "On". I have checked again the Driver Configuration, step 3 and still get "Success" but cannot proceed as per my para 2 above. Very frustrating!

    Great clear instructions! BUT I have a problem with my Nexus 7, Android 4.2.2.. The driver installations are complete up to "success" but I have been unable to UNLOCK in spite of several tries. All other progs closed and anti viruses shut down.
    It enters bootloader ok, fast boot staus etc and runs some other checks but eventually boots up again into normal running, with nothing unlocked. What can be done?

    I have a Nexus 7 2012 (no rear camera) and I rooted it with the Nexus Root Toolkit. After I did this and installed their drivers, I could no longer transfer MTP files to the Nexus 7 through XP Explorer - I can not get MTP to work now. XP Explorer works fine with PTP - it is only MTP that will not allow file transfer.
    I have read many threads and posts, downloaded google drivers, ASUS drivers, updated Media Player, and modified the wpdmtp.inf file as suggested and I still can not see the Nexus 7 in the MTP mode with USB debugging checked or unchecked.
    The full driver test in the Toolkit only works if I have USB Debugging enabled in the Nexus Developer Options and both MTP and PTP disabled under the storage options.
    While surfing the net to find a fix It seems this is a common problem, has any one found a solution to get MTP to transfer files after using the Toolkit?
    Thanks for your help.
