Phil is great! He’s always been a drummer. He played drums for Genesis. He has great songs too. Loved your reaction. He’s too old now to play so his son plays drums for him but he’s a tremendous talent.
@@jassydoll Two of his sons actually. His oldest son Simon has his own band and drums and sings and even covers some Genesis songs. Nic is his youngest son who went on tour with him on his last solo tour. Oh and one of his daughters is Lily Collins, the actress.
Thanks for finding this good reaction Phil Collins In the Air Tonight at Montreux in Switzerland hard to think that was from around 16 yrs ago, We used to listen to Phil with Genesis a lot at our motorcycle club meetings here in the UK in the 70s
Not bad for a drummer who sings a bit! :) We're talking about one of the best drummer ever!!! Phil joined Genesis in 1970 as their drummer. He did some backing vocals to the singer, Peter Gabriel, and also as the singer on 2 tracks up until 1976. Peter Gabriel left 1975 after the Lamb Lies Down On Broadway tour and the search for a new singer began. After MANY auditions for a new singer, the band decided that Phil would be the new Genesis singer. They released the 1976 album A Trick Of The Tail with Phil Collins on vocals and drums. For tours they hired an additional drummer, Bill Bruford and in 1977 they hired Chester Thompson (the other drummer in this video) who played on tours. He also played almost every Phil Collins solo tours. Phil Collins is one of only three artists that has sold over 100 million albums as a solo artist and with a group. The other two is Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney. A busy drummer who sings a bit!
I saw his performance live in Florida on his "First Final Farewell Tour"...simply AMAZING in person...the whole show was fantastic!!!! He ran around stage without seeming to get tired at all...and actually SANG (not synced like many current stars) and he sounds exactly like his albums in person....this is a legend for sure :) *if you aren't doing the drums/singing with him by the end, there's something wrong with you hahaha
Agreed. I would suggest watching the “Drum Duet” either from the Genesis “Mama Tour” (1984), or from the “Live at Wembley” concert (from the Invisible Touch tour in 1986/87). From this drummer’s perspective, that’s when they were at their best and where the duet had the best composition.
Interesting, that was a different "live" version than what I have been watching lately. But, you did have the reaction that most people have, that don't know that he is a drummer.
They really should scrub all live performances of this song except one. And this one isn't it. Look for the live version with blue lighting. I think it was a fairwell tour. Maybe in Paris. Anyway that's the best performance ever in the history of music. Life changing.
@@jassydoll well, kiddo, strap in cause its a wild ride. Read up on them too. they've been through alot! And thats just in the past few years. The lead guitarist is one of my top 6 favorite guitarists in the world!🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
Phil Collins is a world class drummer an long time lead vocalist of the group Genesis, and one of the most successful pop/rock stars in history. He’s one of only three performers who has sold 100 million albums as a solo artist and with a band. The other two are Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson. There is your rock history lesson for today!
One of my favorite songs of all time! Love the drums on this song! Have you ever react to the Japanese band name Scandal? If not you should check them out! I can give you some suggestions and links for Scandal songs. I hope you do a react video for Scandal songs soon. I hope you have a great day!
You may have heard some of Phil Collins' other solo songs, particularly Against All Odds. He also wrote the soundtracks to two Disney films, Tarzan and Brother Bear. He is one of the most successful pop/rock stars in history. He’s one of only three performers who has sold 100 million albums as a solo artist and with a band. The other two are Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson. That means there are a lot of songs from both his solo albums and his band Genesis. Some solo songs to react to: I Don’t Care Anymore. (The live version from the 1992 Perkins Palace concert is great if you want to see raw vocals and more great drums m.ua-cam.com/video/zZ3GA6dazTA/v-deo.html), Against All Odds (probably his best-known song besides In the Air Tonight). Another Day in Paradise won the Grammy for Record of the Year ua-cam.com/video/Qt2mbGP6vFI/v-deo.html. Also, his song I Wish It Would Rain Down is phenomenal and has great guitar work by Eric Clapton (who also appears in the official video which has a lot of in-jokes ua-cam.com/video/YcY3FH208l8/v-deo.html). And Easy Lover is an up-tempo duet with Philip Bailey of Earth Wind and Fire ua-cam.com/video/JkRKT6T0QLg/v-deo.html. You also should check out Genesis. There are so many songs there - Mama (check out this live version ua-cam.com/video/TJnZi2eo5yk/v-deo.html), That’s All, Tonight Tonight Tonight, Land of Confusion, In Too Deep, Home By the Sea/Second Home By the Sea (two songs but meant to be heard as one with an instrumental section that shows some of the bands progressive rock roots; this is a great live version ua-cam.com/video/P7Ko79vytWA/v-deo.html), Dance on Volcano, and Ripples - just for starters. One thing I find interesting about him is that he did not leave Genesis when he hit it big as a solo artist. Instead, he alternated between solo albums and Genesis albums in the 1980s, releasing something like 8 or 9 albums in that decade. That doesn't include several hit songs that were released on movie soundtracks.
He caught his wife cheating, but he said nothing until he could get his lawyer to prep for divorce. This song is about the time in between, and the painful conversation that he knew would have to take place.
I'm going to do a reaction video where I react to the hundreds of reaction videos to this Phil Collins video where Americans pretend they've never heard it before, the truth being they are copying all the other videos reacting to this, some of which they have of course watched - just to get cheap hits = advertising money. I can then pretend I've not seen the reaction videos before and say I wasn't expecting that when they are 'surprised' by Phil's drum roll. Sound good?
No disrespect intended, but there's a hundred videos on UA-cam of black people pretending to hear this song for the first time... and all in 2020, lol... what's up with that? It has been one of the biggest songs on planet earth for 40 years!!! Somebody ain't telling the truth... while I agree with all the positive comments on Phil Collins and In the Air tonight, I think it be funny if someone just came on and made a video of just trashing it. If you can lie about hearing it for the first time, you can lie about liking it...
Ye I get where your coming from with that comment.I have seen videos of people saying they have never heard a song before and it's a song I think everyone knows..but on the other hand while you can think I'm lying that's cool.It really does not affect me in any way.I always make a point to say when I have heard a song before because if I want to listen to it.I will listen to it. Whether I know the song or not.So why lie

Not that he's too old. He damaged a vertebrae in his neck in 2012. This slowly ended his drumming career.
phil collins helped lauch phillip bailey of earth, wind and fire with their duet of "easy lover"

This song was about His Divorce
Interesting, that was a different "live" version than what I have been watching lately. But, you did have the reaction that most people have, that don't know that he is a drummer.
