'The Unforgiven' was written about vocalist/ guitarist James Hetfield's parents... Growing up in a small town in California, James had a tough upbringing in a Christian Science family where doctors and medicine was forbidden - 'only prayer & God would help u heal'...was their mantra and he was routinely abused as a kid if he stepped out of line... At school, he couldn't attend certain classes because of his faith and the kids thought he was a 'freak'... He couldn't play football in school because he needed a doctor's note... His father left the family and his parents divorced... James and his sister would fight constantly and his single mom was overwhelmed. Making matters worse, she was diagnosed w/ cancer and refused treatment because of her faith... She died when James was still a teen. The loss of his parents left James Hetfield w/ a lifelong fear of abandonment... He and his sister were given to the custody of their older half-brother and his sister was kicked out for her outbursts... while James was quiet and reserved. Years later, James wrote songs about his late mom, her faith and her struggle w/ cancer - 'The God that failed'... 'Until it sleeps' ... and the country ballad 'Mama said'... At 18, James left to be on his own... drinking became a huge part of his life. He soon met drummer Lars Ulrich in 1981 and was persuaded to form Metallica w/ him... Going on tour and seeing the world in Metallica gave James new experiences and he eventually realized that his parents were wrong about pretty much everything and he never went back to his parents' faith. However, his alcoholism was a huge problem and caused a lot of problems in Metallica and in his personal life. In 1988, he wrote the song "Dyers' eve"... where he let his parents feel his rage and frustration... 'The Unforgiven' in 1991 was a calmer, darker attitude towards his parents and his upbringing. He eventually 2 sequel songs - 'Unforgiven II' in 1997 was a country ballad 😬by Metallica and he lamented about his relationship w/ his significant other... and 'Unforgiven III' in 2008 where he lamented about himself.
" Master of Puppets " is considered the greatest metal album of all time. In 2015, Master of Puppets became the first metal recording to be selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Recording Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." Mia, it’s so heartwarming seeing you, representing a new generation of people , quickly realize why they are becoming Metallica fans after hearing amazing song after amazing song after masterpiece after another masterpiece.
I will have to say, my favorite Metallica song is either "Wherever I May Roam" or maybe "Damage Inc." And I truly appreciate you making it a very Merry Metallica Christmas! Haha! Thank you for another great reaction! You Rock, like always! 🤘🤘
been listening to this song for over 30 years, still, never gets old. specially with you face in the video. oooh my... my favorite metallica song is fade to black
This was one of 5 singles that was released for "The Black Album". "Enter Sandman", Sad but True", "Nothing Else Matters", and "Wherever I May Roam" are the other singles from "The Black Album".
I was just watching 1 of Ur reaction on UA-cam and seen U just uploaded another now am watching this 1 thank U beautiful for another amazing reaction and of course for being absolutely beautiful as always ❤
I have seen Metallica in concert twice and WOW!!! Loudest and Most Amazing Concerts Ever!! Especially when I saw them in 1992 it was Amazing!! Oh and Loud!! My ears rang for like 2 days!! James has such an Amazing Voice!!
The entire Unforgiven trilogy is fantastic, so I hope you get to the other two sometime! They are all unique in their own way but have a similar flavor if that makes sense lol. I’ve never been able to pick a favorite because I love them all.
Master of Puppets! Full album. Battery Master of Puppets The Thing That Should Not Be Welcome Home (Sanitarium) YES!!!! Disposable Heroes Leper Messiah Orion Damage, Inc IMO, their best album, and you'll have your fix! Other songs of note: Fuel, Last Caress (Misfits cover), Sad But True, Disappear, etc. And wow, Mia, they've been touring for 4 decades. Lucky enough to see them back in the 80s-----twice! Well worth every penny. The Metallica catalogue is huge! Unforgiven is more of a ballad but a good one at that. Somebody's got a crush on James Hetfield! Thank you for posting and reacting, Mia! 🤘😎🤘
One of my top fav song still. Still hits hard after me listening to it hundreds? of times. 😎 🎵 "What I felt, what I've known, never shined through what I've shown. Never free! Never me!!" 🎵 #CLASSIC 😋
I missed this when it dropped but it showed up in my feed. I thought about what you said about James’ vocals. So, on the verses he’s not singing melodically but with grit and rasp, a style he’s had his whole career. But on the chorus he sings in clean tone, with vocal melodies. When they recorded this album he had that in mind. So he talked to their producer about doing clean singing on some songs, and the guy gave him some mini-lessons in the studio. James wanted to sing. Also, that drum part you loved was played on tom-toms, usually called toms. They have a lower tone and a more percussive feel.
Driving back up to Milwaukee, Wisconsin from Miami, Florida with my Wife. Listening to Serius XM as we're approaching the beautiful lit up Chicago skyline at 2AM. " Unforgiven 3" starts to play as we are going through Chicago on I 94 North. Fucking dope!

While never into Metallica, I always loved this song. What a great blend of Drums and strings. I loved the harmony of the vocals as I could see you do too. Thank you for sharing this classic song by Metallica. Loved your view point on the imporantence of the music videos. I bet you are one to also come up with visuals of the song in your head too, before even realizing there was a music video to it.
Another masterpiece from Metallica that you react to here. ^^ A great composition and a really mature track, like most of the songs on their Black Album. 👍👍👍👍👍👍 I can tell from your movements to the rhythm that you really feel the sound. Not like some other reactors. Your reactions are true. Whether you like it or not, you say it. I like that much about you.^^
Agreed. Metallica is probably THE BEST example of a band who has successfully changed their style with the times. St. Anger (2003), which is regarded as their "worst" album by fans and critics, still topped the charts worldwide and went double platinum.
Mia good reaction. Creeping Death Live 1991 in Moscow. Metallica played in front of 1.5+ million people. There are actually 3 parts. Unforgiven 1-2-and 3. Each one is a part of a story that spans over a period of forgiving yourself, others, and facing truths. Check out Master of Puppets, Sanitarium, or One next 😁
2:20 I’d say the most Christmas-appropriate Metallica would be the S&M (Symphony & Metallica) album which is from a live performance they did with the San Francisco symphony. Their songs blend together perfectly with the classical arrangements from conductor Michael Kaman. There is also video footage of the entire thing if you want to watch the whole show. It’s pretty amazing
Yes indeed, they have talent beyond just banging away, their lyrics are underrated because of their instrumental prowess of this great band. Next see them at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, they were awesome there, they knew they had a world wide audience and nailed it and it helped make them superstars. Do Wherever I Shall Roam and enjoy! 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶🔥
I'm in construction all day outside and don't have much left in the tank for a workout. So I listen to Metallica while watching you listen to Metallica on my way to work 😊

Since you are a Metallica fan and made a comment in the Evanescence reaction that you would like to hear more female rock then you should check out The Warning's remake of Enter Sandman. The music video they did was good, but the best versions are their live versions in Mexico. The Warning are 3 sisters from Mexico that play rock. They are quickly becoming a big deal in the world of rock too. Their original songs are amazing!
You're right, Mia. They are the best band, hear their music since 1988 and see them 8 times live. Always great..... Next songs to react Master of puppets damage inc. Disposable Heroes One Keep on rocking....
I'm from Minnesota. Let's get some Prince. "Let's Go Crazy", "Little Red Corvette", "Raspberry Beret", and his version of "Motherless Child" are all pretty good and none of those videos have kids in them. Nice reaction. Let's get some Prince.
Hey Mia continuing ur wonderful trip down the Metallica rabbit hole Unforgiven is 3 parts btw this is one of Metallica's best songs. Another band worth checking out is Papa Roach theyre an iconic band Last Resort Scars Gravity ft. Maria Brink of In This Moment Getting Away With Murder etc Jacoby Shaddix is one of my all time favorite vocalists youd really enjoy them luv ya Mia have a great night ❤❤❤
There are many phenomenal Metallica songs. If I had to recommend one to react to, it'd be 'Welcome Home (Sanitarium)', which captures the band's essence. Alternatively, 'The Day That Never Comes' is also great. For an enhanced experience, watch the band's live performances of these songs - they're incredible!
Took me just 30 years to notice the beginning of this song (metallica unforgiven) is friggin' ENNIO MORRICONE ! Search youtube for spaghetti western, there's all his stuff. The most epic one is "overture for wind, a fly, and a water pump", for the movie "once upon a time in the west", first ~13 minutes.
I had just come back to the US from being deployed to DESERT STORM 🏜, EARLY 90'S, i can't remember the exact year, my FIANCE had left me, and I REALLY RELATED to these lyric
Great reaction. Kirk said that the solo from this solo was one of his best written compositions. But, I think you'd love Megadeth. Dave Mustaine from Megadeth was Metallica's first lead guitarist. Songs that he wrote are on metallica's first three albums. But you should definitely check out Megadeth's Holy Wars.
In the movie where they filmed the making of the Black Album. He was struggling with coming up for a solo for Unforgiven until Bob Rock just tells him "Start fucking soloing" lol and then he rips this solo. Had chills down my spine.
An absolute classic, and a little bit of a shakeup of the typical formula by making the chorus softer and more subdued than the verse (in most songs, the chorus is where things get heavier and more powerful). This is the first and most famous of the "Unforgiven Trilogy" of songs, with the others aptly named Unforgiven II and Unforgiven III. Unforgiven and Unforgiven II are most closely related musically, with Unforgiven II using the same chord progression throughout as the chorus of this one, as well as borrowing some melodic elements. Unforgiven III deviates more, though its introduction uses the same progression as the chorus. However, taken together they effectively tell three different parts of the same story. That opening buzzing chord before the guitar kicks in is sampled from Ennio Morricone's legendary title theme to "The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly," one of the all-time great Spaghetti Westerns, starring Clint Eastwood, Eli Wallach, and Lee Van Cleef. Metallica's song, in turn, inspired Eastwood's 1992 Oscar-winning Western, Unforgiven, so it kind of comes full circle.
Love your reaction to this....but now you have to finish the trilogy of unforgiving ll and Unforgiven lll....up to you when you have time....many blessings always....
A lot of their bangers don't have videos except live footage. But the ones w vids r Enter Sandman, Wherever I May Roam & Sad But True. Great live song is Fade To Black
Great reaction mia...since you love Metallica..wow theres so many of their songs that are great..you can try "ONE" or " Disposable Heroes " ... If you want to change it up you can try Megadeth...led by former Metallica guitarist Dave Mustaine..they have alot of great songs too..." Synphony of Destruction".."TRUST" ,"ANGRY AGAIN".."PEACE CELLS..but who's buying "....take care and enjoy 🙏
I work out four times a week and I never listen to music - especially not music I like. It’s not worth getting tired of it. Magnus Samuelsson, swedish strongman, said the same. He also loves Metallica. Anyways, this song, The Unforgiven, is pure beauty. Please listen to Orion. My favorite. You can do a live version, but there is an added harmony if you listen to the original. There is a minor third, which technically creates a full chord (I’m a guitar player of 27 years).
Master of Puppets is my favorite Metallica song and favorite song period, but for a Metallica song that definitely hits different when you see the music video is "One".
Do I listen to Metallica when I workout? "For Whom The Bell Tolls", "Battery and "All Nightmare Long" which deserve a reaction say Hello. 😆💪 Everyone these days keeps pushing Christmas early. I think as the world gets harder, people cling to comfort things more and more.
I use to listen to Korn's Issues album when weightlifting. Now I listen to random stuff on youtube. When I drive i have a few playlists i listen to depending on mood. Metallica is on my everything playlist and max volume playlist.
Master of Puppets- Metallica. Mia, it’s time for you to hear their most popular song. It is one of the best songs in the history of rock music. Very confident you’ll want to add this to your workout playlist because it’s such an energetic masterpiece. Keep in mind this song is about the drug being the master and the puppet being the addict. Love your reactions Mia thanks for this great one too.!!
I was a Metallica fan by the late 1980s and early +1990s. I bought this black album the day it was released. While it gets hate by alot of the eatlier fans, i think its a great album
Oh man you have to do their early stuff but I beg you to check out any song from the 1989 Seattle concert. It was an epic concert. They were at their very best.
Metallica rocks, they formed in 1979 I believe. "Until it Sleeps" and "Enter Sandman" are two of my favorites, however, "Seek And Destroy" is really good. Imagine if she met James in person.
Please, please, PLEASE . . . Don’t watch the official music video for “One” by ‘Metallica’ the first time you listen to that song. I’ve watched lots of people react to it and end up being quite distracted by the visuals and commentary embedded in the video clips of the film, “Johnny Got His Gun’, and miss the actual music and lyrics. I’d gladly watch you react to a second video of you watching the official music video and give that a like as well 👍👍
Ugh , SHE HAS TO watch the video! I wanna give her some context to "One" so she is not too distracted by the video ( I was confused with the video until someone explained). But I don't wanna spoil anything.
Johnny Got His Gun is an Anti-War film, but it goes into deeper context w/the author/screenwriter of the book (Dalton Trumbo) b/c he was blackballed (1947-1960) by Hollywood for being a Communist Sympathizer during WW2. This tarnished his career, and he had to move to Mexico to re-establish his career (making Roman Holiday w/Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck)…
Some of their other songs that you should review are "Orion", "Damage Inc.", "Master of Puppets", "Blackened", "Battery" and more!....... (Hey Mia! 🖐🙂 Metallica is my most favorite band, as well...although, I'm more partial to their older stuff, from "Kill Em' All" to "Metallica"-a.k.a. "The Black Album") 🤘😎
The sweetest of rabbithole!!! This list would be the perfect start for you: Fuel Master Of Puppets Wherever I May Roam Ungorgiven II Moth Into The Flame The Memory Remains Damage Inc Battery After that your all set😁 But honestly, apart from the Lulu album theres hardly any bad songs😌
This WAS one of their top songs and was played on MTV and the radio all the time. Don't be fooled. Also, the Black Album is their best and most popular album. Many fans will kill me for saying that, but it's true. It's the most musical. You will love EVERY song on it. Master of Puppets, Justice for All are also amazing, but they are a different kind of amazing. They are more for metal heads whereas the Black Album is for music and production quality. Everyone is going to be begging you to listen to songs that are not on the Black Album. Don't be fooled. The Black Album is musical and AMAZING.

I'm from Minnesota. Let's get some Prince. "Let's Go Crazy", "Little Red Corvette", "Raspberry Beret", and his version of "Motherless Child" are all pretty good and none of those videos have kids in them. Nice reaction. Let's get some Prince.
I don't care how cliche it might be: If you're doing prince you've gotta do Purple Rain.
@@Ambaryerno Both the official video and the live performance from the 1985 Syracuse concert are worth checking out.
Love the video Mia stay motivated dream big 1 mill on the way
Hey Mia continuing ur wonderful trip down the Metallica rabbit hole Unforgiven is 3 parts btw this is one of Metallica's best songs.
Love hearing younger people enjoy the music I grew up with
I had just come back to the US from being deployed to DESERT STORM 🏜, EARLY 90'S, i can't remember the exact year, my FIANCE had left me, and I REALLY RELATED to these lyric
Onion, Master of puppets, whiplash, sad but true, one . This list goes on. Thanks.
I'm binging you....and it's because of your honest reactions. You don't have to leverage your other "talents". Just enjoy the music and I'm here.
Awesome reaction Mia and nice t shirt.
‘Battery’ off of Master of Puppets is a good workout song
And then ‘Orion’ on the same album is either a good light workout or cool down song….🎧
Master of puppets 🤘🏼🖤🤘🏼
Studio version with lyrics same with one both official video
Cette chanson est ma préférée de toutes les chansons qui existent au monde. ❤
welcome home - sanitarium is great too...
Metallica is fantastic. You should react to Master Of Puppets, Live in Seattle, 1988. Its incredible! Keep up the great reactions
Metallica - Nothing else matters
I was a Metallica fan by the late 1980s and early +1990s. I bought this black album the day it was released. While it gets hate by alot of the eatlier fans, i think its a great album
Oh man you have to do their early stuff but I beg you to check out any song from the 1989 Seattle concert. It was an epic concert. They were at their very best.
"Of Wolf and Man" is pretty high up there for me as far as Metallica songs go.
Metallica rocks, they formed in 1979 I believe. "Until it Sleeps" and "Enter Sandman" are two of my favorites, however, "Seek And Destroy" is really good. Imagine if she met James in person.
1981. First album 1983.
Don't stop with metallica. Continue with unforgiven 2 and 3
We shouldn't judge or label each other, so sad but awesome song
The sweetest of rabbithole!!!
This list would be the perfect start for you:
Fuel
Master Of Puppets
Wherever I May Roam
Ungorgiven II
Moth Into The Flame
The Memory Remains
Damage Inc
Battery
After that your all set😁
But honestly, apart from the Lulu album theres hardly any bad songs😌
I mostly listen to them when I’m riding my motorcycle
This WAS one of their top songs and was played on MTV and the radio all the time. Don't be fooled.
Also, the Black Album is their best and most popular album. Many fans will kill me for saying that, but it's true. It's the most musical. You will love EVERY song on it.
Master of Puppets, Justice for All are also amazing, but they are a different kind of amazing. They are more for metal heads whereas the Black Album is for music and production quality.
Everyone is going to be begging you to listen to songs that are not on the Black Album. Don't be fooled. The Black Album is musical and AMAZING.
