IMO, Resident Evil 1, Silent Hill 2 and Dead Space are the perfect remakes (Not games, just remakes) Because neither of them cut any content and instead, they expanded upon it.
I have a soft spot for Project Zero 2 Wii Édition. The original Project Zéro 2 Crimson Butterfly is one of my favourite survival horror game of all time from one of the scariest franchise ever (which I call Project Zéro since I live in Europe) and porting it on the Wii was a good way to revisit the expérience. Plus the haunted house mod was amazing back then. To me, the 2002 remake of Resident Evil 1 is still the best remake of all time, but I loved this Alone in the Dark, and the remake of Silent Hill 2 turned out to be incredible despite my worries. It comes as close second to RE1. I'm also glad I'm European so we got an official release of Project Zéro 2 on Wii, and Forbidden Siren 2, plus the French exclusive release of the manga Siren Rebirth based on the first Siren game.
Imo SH2R definitely takes it as far as pure atmosphere and puzzles go but RE2R is the greatest survival horror game ever created and i’m afraid we will never get a game as perfect as it ever again. It has it all, atmosphere, music, amazing art work with the guts and gore, intensity, puzzles (easy but still a good amount of puzzles), replayability, weapon diversity, isolation, and most importantly SURVIVAL. While RE4 and it’s remake are incredible games; sadly they are NOT survival horror games. They are action horror games. Never once through any playthrough of a RE4 game did i ever feel like i was truly unsafe. RE2R always had me on edge especially on HC mode because of resource scarcity and certain decisions impacting your game dependant on which resources you utilize or save. The only other RE that brought that survival horror magic back from my childhood was RE7. This is all just my opinion though. Glad you are enjoying SH2! It’s a great remake!
I definitely need to play Dead Space and SH2 remake one of the days. That being said RE1, RE2, RE4, and System Shock remakes are some of the best I've ever played with what they've done. Would love to see other horror remakes in the future like Code Veronica and Silent Hill 1.
Capcom: Nope on Code Veronica for a remake it's stay eternity as a spin-off nothing else. It's staying on hard difficulty and permanent fixed cameras angles.
I would struggle between SH2 and RE4 Remakes as to which one is better but they would be one and two for me. I'm just blown away by how good they are. Likewise with RE2 and System Shock but RE2 would be 3rd. Haven't played Dead Space remake yet. RE1 I wish they had redone like 2 and 4.
Awesome list , now bring on n code Veronica remake , silent hill 1 and as someone who just played Dino crisis for the first time on PS premium , give us that too
Finally someone has said it Silent Hill 2 Remake is absolutely phenomenal and is definitely the greatest horror game remake of all time I love it so much I can’t wait for SH 1, SH 3, and SH 4: The Room Bloober deserves respect and praise and for the people who shit on Bloober and the game before it came out need to apologize immediately
Solid and tough to pick list, love to see Dead Space getting a mention! I’d have to pick as a top 5: 1. Resident evil remake 2. Dead Space remake 3. Resident evil 2 remake 4. Resident evil 4 remake 5. The last of us part 1
TLOU is not a survival horror and cannot be in that same category despite having some horror elements, it’s mainly a story-driven game with survival aspects…..
I’m around halfway through the Silent Hill 2 remake (just finished Otherworld Brookhaven) and so far I am absolutely loving it. The atmosphere, sound design, and art direction in each area have so far never ceased to astonish me. The atmosphere is so oppressive and the audio is so frightening that I honestly think I would currently put this game on par with Alien Isolation in terms of how scary it is. I also think the characters are just as captivating as the original but in a different way. The interactions with the characters in the original felt surreal and eerie from the start. Whereas in the remake (from what I have seen so far at least) most of the characters seem to start off acting like real people but then gradually become more creepy and uncanny as the game progresses.
For me, what kills SH2R are three moments: Hospital Basement scene with Maria, The Corridor Mary conversation and... the most disapointing one, Maria's final letter. The actress can act, she was never the problem. It was a direction one.
hmm while I agree on all of these scenes being a downgrade to the original, I think that's still a small trade off compared to all of the improvements we got in other areas. I mean most remakes are going to disappoint in some areas. RE2 the lack of A & B Scenarios, RE1 Remake the lack of additional branching paths seen in the original, and RE4's Ada VA & lore regarding Krauser are just a few examples of this. But just because there are changes we dislike, if a majority of it is improved on in comparison then I think it's a fair trade off hence why I'm still fine with giving SH2 remake the top spot. But I totally see where you're coming from tbh because I do agree with those segments being less impactful in the remake.
@@NerdSpaceGames totally fair dude. And i agree in those cases as well. I think i have more gripes in this situation since finally i'm experiencing the gaming preservation discussion with one of my favorite games of all time in Silent Hill 2 (2001). And when i had an awesome example on Tomb Raider Remastered this year on what gaming preservation can be, im so salty on SH2R still. But yes, there is A LOT of things i loved in the remake. Even story wise: Abstract Daddy almost made me cry cuz it was so much cruel then the original and i really liked the new Maria interactiom aditions. And Stillness and Bliss are one of my new fav endings fpr this game (alomg side the dog one lmao) Maybe since its so recent i need some time to get used to the new letter or corridor scenes... or... get rid of the salt in my life (cuz u know... to be... less salty... ok ill be going now)
@@ViniPessoal I totally respect those points. tbh I'm one with game preservation as well. The thing is that I welcome remakes, but I also want the originals to be readily available. It's why I've been wanting a Resident Evil Trilogy Remaster on modern consoles. I hate that those games are not readily available on modern consoles for new players to appreciate. But I also welcome modern interpretations of my favorite video games as well. So I guess in a way I'm more in the middle to the point where I want people to be able to enjoy the originals while also welcoming modern versions of these classics for a new audience to enjoy that are not fans of the style of gameplay of the classics. Silent Hill 2 is a perfect example of that as it has a story that far surpasses that of most video games out there and I don't mind a modern remake of it if it means one, it gives me a new way to appreciate one of my favorite games of all time, two it gives the opportunity for a new generation to appreciate the story, and three if I'm still able to readily enjoy the original when I want to. The last is the issue that we find ourselves dealing with right now and hopefully that situation improves over time.
@@NerdSpaceGames Agreed. I dream with something like whats happening with Tomb Raider happens with RE and other franchises. (Played the first Tomb Raiders trought the remasters and really recomend them if you didnt)
RE2R: cuts everything that made it unique from the other RE games RE Fans: I can’t believe they butchered RE3, RE2R was amazing. The greatest game ever made.
Ooof hard disagree but you each their own. The main thing cut in RE2R was the AB Scenario. RE3R cut locations, bosses, and even toned down the titular villain drastically. Major difference between RE2R & RE3R imo, but I still find RE3R a fun game, just not a good remake.
@NerdSpaceGames Wrong NerdSpaceGames, you shouldn't go with a selfish request on story like Resident Evil 2 remake because the story doesn't need a confusing a, and b story route. So 1st and 2nd run did right and original didn't. Capcom knows about confusing canon in original Resident Evil 2 and fixed it in the remake version.
I thought the comment about the Dead Space remake feeling “more” like survival horror was weird, since the first two Dead Space games were some of the scariest survival horror games out there. I feel like the resources were plenty scarce in those games on higher difficulties, and it didn’t seem that changed in the remake, with them being relatively plentiful on low difficulties and quite scarce on higher difficulties. All that having been said, the remake is excellent, but I just found the slights at the original weird. I actually think RE4 needed a remake more than Dead Space, because Dead Space had already mastered the third person shooter mechanics that were kinda clunky (particularly the inability to move and aim) in RE4. I know RE4 was hugely innovative in practically inventing the third person shooter, but the mechanics are kinda frustrating now. The remake is a lot more enjoyable to play for me, whereas the mechanics already available in the original Dead Space (awful zero-G and that asteroid mission aside) are still pretty in line with modern third person shooters.
@@NerdSpaceGames oh come on! just go with what u like :D! bring more people here dont end up like Ink Ribbon dude currently has anything basicly to talk about but decided to stick only to horrors and i cant anymore keep up 💀
I fucking love all the horror remakes. I'm thrilled when classic games gey reimaagined for modern graphics and gameplay in mind. It doesn't detract from the original game, and let's us revisit something we love, while also getting to experience again for the first time, a second time.
Sadly, I don't think I'll get to enjoy silent hill 2 remake, but I will definitely give dead space remake a go. I kind of avoided it for some reason. Thanks for the list. Sometimes they opens my eyes to games that you didn't think were worth giving a go 😊
@@NerdSpaceGames I will definitely give it a go then. You could say I'm a bit of a resi nerd too 😅 Especially resident evil 2, like yourself. I actually started building the entirety of raccoon city in Minecraft. It's quite sad really 🤣
The OG Resident Evil 3 is such a short but fun game, how they managed to botch the remake despite having some decent moments in the first hour of gameplay is so disappointing to this day. It should easily have been a Top 10 Remake.
I honestly considered putting it in over The Last Of Us Part 1 or Corpse Party (2021), but while I'm one of the biggest defenders of Resident Evil 3 Remake about how I don't think it's a bad game and it's really fun, I do stand by the fact that it's not a good REMAKE. Hence why I decided against putting it on this list. As a standalone game though I find it more fun than most and I do think it gets more heat than it deserves tbh albeit the lack of certain aspects from the original disappointing me still.
As long fan of RE and SH ... and if I be honest, I am a bigger fan of SH... l appreciate what they do with SH, but for me , best remake is always resident evil 2002 remake
So what that there was "only" a 9-year gap for TLOU remake? Resident Evil Remake only came out 6 years after the original (1996 to 2002), MGS The Twin Snakes was the same ('98 to '04). Hell, TLOU pt2 to remake/remaster was only 4 years. The point was there was a significant generation gap between the original and the remake, and a semi-good reason to bring the controls / functionality into line with the updates brought in by Pt 2.
I hope so! I know rumors are leaning toward SH3 but I pray that's absolutely not true as Silent Hill 1 & 3 are the most connected storylines of the franchise and it makes much more sense to remake the first one before going to 3.
I would have been excited to play the Dead Space Remake if I didn't play the original. I know you said Isaac can talk and mentioned some other insignificant changes, but it looks like the exact original game. It's definitely not worth buying if you played the original.
Wrong, it’s definitely worth buying because the developers made numerous changes (that you will spot if you have played the original and now play the remake), it’s not exactly the same and the changes made are for the best….
Yeah, Dead Space remake didn't get any awards being everyone hated EA, so Dead Space remake should be number 5 and Resident Evil 4 remake should be number 2 or 1. So Code Veronica should have the backtracking being you like Silent Hill 2 remake being long.
It does fit the criteria of a remake since they actually did remake a lot of things, it's just that they basically remade everything the same as the original.
I mean before RE4R the last RE game was Village and it's heavily rumoured 9 is next. They have different teams working on sequels and remakes so both 9 and another remake are probably in development right now.
The last of us part 1 is just as much a remake as any on this list as far as far as I’m concerned, just because the story isn’t changed doesn’t make it any less a remake, massive graphics bump, completely overhauled the enemy & companion AI & added all the accessibility functions as part 2.
I mean I still consider it a remake hence why it cracks this list; mainly due to the gameplay mechanics featured in the remake. The graphics I don't think it's fair to automatically give it credit for that because remasters do that all of the time. Look at Dead Rising. But I agree, it's definitely a remake. The only reason why I say it's too a lesser extent than other entries on this list is because the rest of the remakes here did a lot more with reimagining the game. For example, other than improving the visuals of the cutscenes, dialogue and voice acting remains unchanged. Other than gameplay & accessibility mechanics, the game doesn't feature additional new features (like more content, additional modes). In fact, the argument could be made that it lacks content that was in the original in the form of the multiplayer experience that they promised us, but never got as it got canceled for the remake. Overall, I agree with you. It's a remake and it's a damn good one, especially with the changes made to visuals, gameplay mechanics, and accessibility features. But when you compare it to the other games on this list, it lacks more innovative improvements and features that keep it from moving higher on this list. But of course that's just my opinion.
Yeah I totally respect your view. Tbh, as I said in the video, the top 5 of this video could easily be interchangeable based on preference. I'm someone who prefers puzzles and atmospheric horror over gameplay in my Survival Horror games, which is why Silent Hill 2 Remake probably appeals to me more. There's not even an argument to be made that Resident Evil 4 has the best gameplay mechanics of any Survival Horror Game while RE2R is pretty impressive on it's on, with both beating out Silent Hill 2 Remake in that department. But as someone that prefers atmosphere, immersion, puzzles, and haunting storytelling in my Survival Horror games along with the traditional mechanics of Survival Horror Genre like limited resources and backtracking; Silent Hill 2 Remake might very well be one of the perfect matches for a gamer like me. Of course my mind could change a year from now, but if you were to ask me right now what the best horror remake is in my eyes, I'd say SH2 Remake.
No I don't find it. Disappointing, that Ari 4 is number 5 to me. It was the worst game in the reside will franchise or one of the worst, but the remake did justice from the original
Silent Hill 2 lost it's unique tone and unique lynchian dream like vibe, and unique storytelling structure, even gameplay wise, they stretched some parts, the combat is becoming boring because now there's lots of enemies and seems like they MAKE you fight them and combat is not too great to keep you engaged for that long, so its no way near the first place, yeah it's nice but it's the same level like Re4 or Re2(even if it killed B scenarios) Or Re1 is the best remake of all time (The thing with Sh2 Remake, is that Sh series was dead for so long and they have done a good game in so long, and because of that ppl become biased and claiming it's the best remake or better than Og Sh)
Knew it, vid is made just to promote Silent Hill 2 remake. low key saying it is better than RE remakes, but the sales will speak otherwise. Sorry, someone's personal psychological horror is not as appealing as being in a situation where the threat is physically real to anyone. Nancy from Nightmare on Elm Street would be more afraid of Michael Myers than Freddy for a reason.
I am sorry but silent hill 2 remake is a disgrace to the original and does not deserve being top 5 here. The story is silent hill 2 original main strength and terrible voice acting in the remake ruined the whole story. Not to forget the atmosphere is lost somehow and in no way comparable to the original. And yeah they improved the gameplay but it is still bad, the dodge mechanic get extremly boring later cause u literally keep fighting the same enemy over and over. And how dare they change the script for the last scene in the game , the original scene made me cry, now the new one is just shallow.
Imagine calling the voice acting of the remake “horrible” while glazing the originals voice acting lmao You can call one bad but you have to say the other isn’t great
@@dogninja0180 no need to imagine that, compare urself the scene with angela on the ground with the knife or her finale scene from the original with the remake, no feeling what so ever in the remake completly ruined. Resident Evil 1 Remake... There we go. Everything else has been reimagining nonsense. What even is that? "Reimagining" how disgusting it is? To go back to the original game's vision and pretend that you can do better. How about being a faithful remake like RE1?
I mean I would agree that RE1 is probably the most faithful remake ever created but tbh it was also remade only 6 years after the original so not as much has changed for the franchise as later remakes. Nowadays, the next gen expect more for modern games so if that remake happened in the same style today, we’d love it as long time fans, but most modern gamers wouldn’t and it probably wouldn’t sell well sadly
@@NerdSpaceGames I don't know about that. People say the same thing about turn based RPG and how the older FF games wouldn't fly today and yet Persona and that new game they made is thriving. I believe there is a market for the classic RE style too.

Ummm Resident Evil was a remake. The remake got a remaster in 2015 but the 2002 GameCube version was a remake of the 1996 game. And Resident Evil 4 remake is my favorite Resident Evil game currently but I still respect his opinions on his lists
@@AliLiz91 LOL LMFAO... so, let me get this straight: Capcom releases original RE in 1996, then they remake it in 2002, and then in 2015 Capcom releases a "remaster" of the remake??? LOL thats what you're saying??? LOL.. you couldn't be more WRONG... its ok to have opinions, but those opinions still need be based on FACTS... why would capcom release a NEW game, then 6 years later release a "remake"??? 2002 RE was nothing more then a HD remaster... and because that game was so popular, Capcom decided to add a few things to it... the 2015 version was released mainly for PC gamers...

I absolutely love RE2R
It's such an awesome game (: I remember first playing it Just hearing Mr X's footsteps gave me such fright
Im extremely happy with the outcome with SH2R. bloober Team definitely delivered.
Dead Space, RE2, RE4, Silent Hill 2 and RE1 without hesitation…
I definitely need to play Dead Space and SH2 remake one of the days. That being said RE1, RE2, RE4, and System Shock remakes are some of the best I've ever played with what they've done. Would love to see other horror remakes in the future like Code Veronica and Silent Hill 1.
Capcom: Nope on Code Veronica for a remake it's stay eternity as a spin-off nothing else. It's staying on hard difficulty and permanent fixed cameras angles.
Re 2 remake first game I brought with my grandfather back in 2019, it made me sadden his gone but I kept his jacket
Just played the last of us part 1 recently, such a great game glad to see it on one of your lists
Awesome list , now bring on n code Veronica remake , silent hill 1 and as someone who just played Dino crisis for the first time on PS premium , give us that too
Great video ps have you heard of the house of the dead
Resident evil 2002 and Fatal Frame 2 are my favorite video games of all time
Finally someone has said it Silent Hill 2 Remake is absolutely phenomenal and is definitely the greatest horror game remake of all time I love it so much I can’t wait for SH 1, SH 3, and SH 4: The Room Bloober deserves respect and praise and for the people who shit on Bloober and the game before it came out need to apologize immediately
Solid and tough to pick list, love to see Dead Space getting a mention! I’d have to pick as a top 5:
1. Resident evil remake
2. Dead Space remake
3. Resident evil 2 remake
4. Resident evil 4 remake
5. The last of us part 1
TLOU is not a survival horror and cannot be in that same category despite having some horror elements, it’s mainly a story-driven game with survival aspects…..
Silent Hill 1 already got a remake. It was called S.H. Shattered Memories ! 😮
lol you’re not wrong
I edge RE2R over Silent Hill 2 Remake, ever so slightly.
totally respect that of course!
Oh god, every RE surpassed sh2 in every possible way imo. And you were right, I personally AM pissed off by re4 remake's placement
Reuben my man! I have to go with SH2 as well. RE4 is a close second. Love the resurgence of silent hill.
@ 12:43 The Nostromo? Isn't it the Ishimura in Dead Space? I'm fairly certain the Nostromo is from Aliens.
It is 😭
@@NerdSpaceGames It's all good. I only remembered cause I played Dead Space 1, 2 and 3 back to back last year or the year before?
Re4 is #1
Respect lol
RE1 was the best. It revamped the whole game with more lore and content
Now I need to get SH2
RE2R: cuts everything that made it unique from the other RE games
RE Fans: I can’t believe they butchered RE3, RE2R was amazing.
Even with the cut content, RE2 remake is still a good game while RE3 is a disappointing game overall, cut sections included….
The remake is a lot more enjoyable to play for me, whereas the mechanics already available in the original Dead Space (awful zero-G and that asteroid mission aside) are still pretty in line with modern third person shooters.
hey Nerd Space!
Im again here watching u after some long break
wanted to ask how the Prince of Persia Franchise been going lately for ya? :D!
lol long time! Unfortunately I pivoted the channel over to horror due to what worked on the channel 😅
Sometimes they opens my eyes to games that you didn't think were worth giving a go 😊
You’ll def like Dead Space remake if you love the modern RE remakes tbh
Ohhhh man I'm just still wait a Remake my Favorit RE for next (RE OUTBREAK and Code Veronic)
I love the good remakes.
Do you think the next SH remake will be 1?
I hope so! I know rumors are leaning toward SH3 but I pray that's absolutely not true as Silent Hill 1 & 3 are the most connected storylines of the franchise and it makes much more sense to remake the first one before going to 3.
my too five would have to be
5: resident evil 3
4: resident evil 2
3: resident evil 4
2: dead space
1: last of us part 1
Re3? 😂😂😂
That’s crazy because the last of us is not even a remake bro nothing was changed except graphics
I’m the first one to see this and I like 👍🏾 it
Let’s go!
Horror games with guys from boybands and shit. Now that is some next level thinking.
Yeah, Dead Space remake didn't get any awards being everyone hated EA, so Dead Space remake should be number 5 and Resident Evil 4 remake should be number 2 or 1. So Code Veronica should have the backtracking being you like Silent Hill 2 remake being long.
The last of us is a remaster but loved the video!
Nope, that one is a remake according to naughty dog lol. Every other release of last of us was a remaster 😅
It does fit the criteria of a remake since they actually did remake a lot of things, it's just that they basically remade everything the same as the original.
I guess you’re right.
It’s a remake but it does not belong to the survival horror genre…..
I think it’s time developers especially Capcom put a brake on remakes and use the same resources they used on the RE and SH2 remake son new stories.
@@NerdSpaceGames fair enough, also sorry if what I said sounded slanted at you, it was just me getting tired of hearing others saying negative things.

Wait, the Nostromo? Not the Ishimura? 😜
Lmfao I’m an idiot!!

@@NerdSpaceGames it is a remake they remade the whole game built into unreal engine 5

Recency bias
Totally fair assumption tbh
Dead Space remake added NOTHING NEW,
if you played the original, you don't miss anything
Definitely recency B lol
Where is RE3? RE2, RE4 and The Last Of Us 1 are amazing!
No one wants to hear about this remake, it’s crap…..
I really didn’t like dead space I don’t know why because I always hear it being praised but it just wasn’t for me
No way sh2 remake is better than re4r and re2r. Scarier maybe, but better game in a vacuum, re4r and re2r are better.
Silent Hill 2 lost it's unique tone and unique lynchian dream like vibe, and unique storytelling structure, even gameplay wise, they stretched some parts, the combat is becoming boring because now there's lots of enemies and seems like they MAKE you fight them and combat is not too great to keep you engaged for that long, so its no way near the first place, yeah it's nice but it's the same level like Re4 or Re2(even if it killed B scenarios)
Or Re1 is the best remake of all time
(The thing with Sh2 Remake, is that Sh series was dead for so long and they have done a good game in so long, and because of that ppl become biased and claiming it's the best remake or better than Og Sh)
Um...... No. Alone in the Dark was not even a mid-level game. It is poor quality, and boring to a fault.
SH2 remake really wasnt at all what it was hyped up to be
I am sorry but silent hill 2 remake is a disgrace to the original and does not deserve being top 5 here.
Imagine calling the voice acting of the remake “horrible” while glazing the originals voice acting lmao
You can call one bad but you have to say the other isn’t great
@@dogninja0180 no need to imagine that, compare urself the scene with angela on the ground with the knife or her finale scene from the original with the remake, no feeling what so ever in the remake completly ruined.
And do not make me start about maria's scenes, not a single good one in the remake, her delivery in all scenes is just emotionless like someone reading u a script or some shit instead of exuding emotions.
Did u even play the original? I kinda believe u did not......
@@3mangaming185 no I did play the original recently and let me tell you I was laughing my ass off on how bad the voice acting was, I am the same mf that plays the original resident evil on the ps1 and it’s to the same level of bad. @@dogninja0180 ok dude "it is not great", what u mean it is not great???!!!.
Silent hill 2 is regarded as one of the best horror games of all time and a classic, let's see if anyone will remember the remake in a year...... cause I doubt they will and I still doubt u played the original , u are juat one of those new gamers who are not the fans of the franchise and watched the walkthroughs of the original on yt and now think they know how it was.

I believe there is a market for the classic RE style too.
you put RE4R at #5??? are you OUT of your mind??? i've played ALL the RE games, and RE4R stands at the TOP of the heap, UNCHALLENGED... RE4R is the undisputed KING of RE games... this "list" of yours is preposterous... ohh, and btw, RE never got a REMAKE... the 2002 RE game you put at #2 is a REMASTER with a few things added here and there...... you need to find a different hobby dude, because you don't know anything about the RE games, or gaming in general...
Ummm Resident Evil was a remake. The remake got a remaster in 2015 but the 2002 GameCube version was a remake of the 1996 game. And Resident Evil 4 remake is my favorite Resident Evil game currently but I still respect his opinions on his lists
Easy there 😅
Someone is "passionate". And yeah RE1 on this list was a remake originally coming out in 2002 on the GameCube.
