Thank you for bringing us this content, year after year. Graphite design has become my choice of shaft after almost exclusively playing Diamana. They are top notch in quality/feel like Mitsubishi, but the level they go to educate players + fitters is second to none. The EI comparison charts are a dream to have alongside the context of how & why the products were developed.
Russ, Im curious what iron shaft you’re using? I’m guessing KBS Tour V or Modus 130? I also prefer a similar profile so am interested in the CQ. Thanks 👍🏻
Could you please tell me what a softer butt section in the shaft does during the swing and in the swing feel? I would think it would feel like the shaft and head was lagging behind. Also, I would think it would be a little more difficult to close the face. What is the design intent in a soft butt section?
Swing style and feel are critical for developing a consistent swing. There are some very popular soft butt shafts. For example, the Project X is soft butt compared to KBS or Dynamic Gold designs. When looking at soft butt realize you are comparing it to the midsection of the shaft. If I look at different shafts overall stiffness I could say one shaft has a softer butt than another because its overall stiffness is less. The term is relative. The MCA 1k has a firm mid. So one could therefore see the butt as soft. And yet, I have put this shaft into a great many low handicap bags. When I locate weight and overall stiffness for a players iron shafts. I always test both PX and KBS. Players always have a preference. And that preference does not manifest in dispersion as your thoughts would indicate.
@@DevotedGolfer Isn't how you load the club that basically determines what butt profile one should play? Such as a player with a smooth transition /load would be better off with a soft Butt profile, and an aggressive transition/load player would require a firmer Butt, or visa versa? Why softer or stiffer sections would benefit certain types of players. Is it tempo related, loading related? I don't know, just curious. Thanks, and nice interview!
