Thank you for sharing what it is like to be inside Script Ohio. I've seen it many times but getting to see what it was like from the the band POV it was amazing. It was fascinating, especially seeing what happens up close when you have to go across another person. Such precision. You guys are absolutely amazing. There is a reason you are called TBDBITL, you are the best!
Thank you. This is a good reminder of how hard TBDBITL works and the dedication it takes to do this week in and week out. AND then take your regular classes on top of it. Wow! Good job! Buckeye Nation is proud of you. Thanks again.
Thanks, Diego, for capturing and sharing this performance .....which was heartening to see the encouragement from Row members as SWiM was setting up for his first Ramp.
I have become enthralled with watching the various GoPro videos of the OSU marching band and all the traditions and nuances of your performances. I would love to see a live performance at a game someday! Both of my kids did marching band in high school and I know how much time they spent learning their routines. I can’t imagine the time you guys have to put into this!
Fantastic video!! I’ve known several people who have marched in this band. I was in the Ohio University Marching 110 and I love how similar yet different both bands are both on and off the field!
This is the sort of thing that the go pro was invented for. A very interesting visual around 4:00, with the drone, drum major, and jumbotron (if they still call 'em that) showing the drone shot of the major, all visible at once. Not sure why I am addicted to these.
When the band is made everyone is appointed a row and file. Rows are ordered by letters (ex: B row), files are ordered based on multiple things but the main thing to answer your question is that the marching members are ordered from 1-12 and the 13, 14 spots are alternates and must challenge another regular member on their respective part (1st Trumpets cannot challenge 2nd trumpets or flugelhorns). After each performance for the following game, is when the challenge for the following football game is held (or any other band performance like bowl games and buckeye invite). This ensures that everyone stays 10 toes, your spot is not to be taken for granted. Alternates will also have props or fill in a spot in rehearsal if someone has another commitment. If you have any other questions feel free to ask!
I honestly don’t think people respect marching bands enough the amount of work and memorization is insane, not to mention the drum major which takes a lot of time and effort to become. (I play in a marching band)
@@abramsanchez3122 You can always come to summer sessions and learn the fundamentals as an incoming junior/senior. Really helps as if you do end up trying out, youll have more time to practice and really get down the fundamentals, rather than just learning how to internalize OTL drills. Dont be discouraged :)
@@B-rowTBDBITL-gv9rfis it any different from performance/competition band in high school? In the aspect of marching and playing at least as I know the differences as I’ve been in both over two years
I am absolutely blown away . I have been through 3 generations and different very good MARCHING BANDS . Does the section Leader actually call out commands ? Was that just for the "Go/Pro" ?
13:49 What triggers me is that though this is a traditional marching band (well not traditional, it IS the best darn band in the land...) they make it sound like dubstep because they know what's popular... But then again, I really can't blame them for not following the style of an ordinary marching band bc these guys are anything but ordinary. P.S. That third song as well as Carmen Ohio were my favorite parts.
We typically do have very specific arrangement styles that resemble a drum corp! The typical military marches you're probably looking for are still here somewhat in our school songs and sometimes other halftime shows. We have about 6-7 different arranging staff, all having very styles so I can see what you mean by how it sounds like "dubstep" haha
I like the video, and that is coming from me, another trumpet player, but I am only in 9th grade😅😅 But that was really good and I really liked it a lot
for every one of you who is making these on the field videos, i think you need to add the one from the booth so we can see what you guys are doing at the same time or as an addition to this video.
I thought about doing this but itd be hard to 1. Sync the camera to the cuts 2. Find a good place to add said footage. I do think this is a good idea and could be incorporated in the future
@@B-rowTBDBITL-gv9rf well maybe inform some of the others who are in the band who post these videos and see if they can help. or maybe just add a link in the description for the video from higher up
I like the dude on the cornet (?) hot stepping at around 19:20! Would have been good to have an insert of what the formation looked like from the audience! Still great to be a part of the OSUMB!! 👍 from 🇳🇿
I want to know how the drum major gets good enough to try out for the position!? And the camaraderie is amazing! Also- what an AWESOME perspective! These guys are true professionals.
So along with the other members of the band, the drum majors have their own row, D row, which typically has a group of 8-10 people who are trained by the head and assistant drum majors over the summer, and while the marching band practices. Then in the spring, those candidates go through a specific drum major tryout process. If you want a more elaborate explanation watch our marching band documentary: TBDBITL 141!
Can I get one of these from your marching director ( Not in a marching band I think thats what their called. The guy in the solid red jacket with a baton)? That would be cool to see.
We practice everyday for around 2 hours, which goes by pretty fast considering you practice inside for music and go out after. Depending on when the next home game is we can have 2-3 weeks to learn everything to only a week to learn. Really just depends on the schedule we get.
Might be wrong about this but as far as I know, ROTC shows up for the football games to do their own traditions but theyll typically just chill there during pregame and cheer on the band.
We are trumpet players sorry! Fortunately there's already trombone cams out there! Here's a link if you want to watch! ua-cam.com/video/vP9gtGDRR_I/v-deo.html
Edit: one time, a snapped my Trumpet up with enough force to shoot the mouthpiece out of it, and it hit a Percussion Instrument right behind me. Somehow the Band Director didn’t hear the loud sound it made.
@@B-rowTBDBITL-gv9rf That’s great…I was thinking at inspection prior to drill you might have gotten thrown off the field. That’s what happened to us 40 years ago when we marched at my school and had uniform inspection prior to the show. Glad things have changed.
