- Behind The Scenes at the Ohio State Marching Band London Show at Wembley Stadium 10 25 2015. The Ohio State University Marching Band, TBDBITL, The Best Damn Band In The Land.
Imagine the person who decided "Eh I'll audition next year", and then sees this
😂
im watching this now during this covid-19 lockdown and i can say, this band will never get me bored at all. i was once a bandsmen myself during high school, and this brings back all the memories! they are phenomenal!
I'm on Covid-19 lockdown too.
I’ve dived down this hole because I miss band so much during quarantine.
Band has more talent than the two NFL teams combined.
Lee Nix you can say that again.
V. Ready aQqq
Computer goof.sorry
😂😂
thats cap
Well, here I am, 6 years late to the party and I have just a few things to add. First of all, every single member of this fine marching band should hold their heads high and be proud of their awesome show. They are great ambassadors for the USA and especially Ohio. The insane amount of effort, skill and coordination, is breath taking. I have no idea how they learn so many individual moves and remember them and, at the same time play their instruments. I am lost for words. Thank you from the UK.
Thank you for you kind words about the Ohio State Marching Band. There is a lot of prestige involved with being a member of this band. Every year, each musician has to re-audition for their place, that's how competitive it is.
Thank you for representing the United States and Ohio so beautifully!!! You all make me proud to be a Buckeye!!!
those two worker guys were so cool aww omg "They were awesome!" "I know!"
To do those routines they did, these kids and I mean kids have to be in great physical shape not only do they have to play the music but to do the formations. Awesome and their teachers deserve a lot of
credit for that.
Richard Kamaka marching can be hard but its really fun. People always ask me how do you know where to go its hard to explain so I say memory. Also Marching band is the only time I drink the most water. I’m ashamed to say that but its true
Its hard exhausting and mentally strenuous but its worth every second of it.
Its a physical and mental thing.
Not just the BDBITL but now the BDBITLandtheUK!
I’m a retired career UK Army Bandsman and I must say that I would have loved to have been part of your band.
All the best guys. Ian
How year after year, new members after new members, they remain the best, what discipline young people. And their lead. Can't get enough of this band.
What people don't see is all the hours upon hours of hard work blood sweat tears and lack of sleep and having to do homework that being in marching band takes
Most of the people in my neighborhood think that it only takes one night even when I would tell them otherwise
As a Canadian and dyed in the wool Wolverine fan this video gave me goosebumps. What a great job you did and what great ambassadors for the USA.
Yeah OSU, and US marching bands in general, are MUCH better than the ones we have in Canada. The last college football game I was at (Western vs Guelph?) the Mustangs marching band didn't even march. They just goofed around in the stands and played perhaps 2-3 minutes the whole game.
@@GoWestYoungMan I agree. There is no comparison. They are in different universes. In terms of enthusiasm US college marching bands are orders of magnitude higher.
@@GoWestYoungMan At many schools the marching band was formed and exists only to support the football team, but OSU's marching band is actually older than the football team and has always been a thing unto itself. The OSUMB grew out of the university fife and drum corps that was formed to march with the school's ROTC cadets in the late 1870s. 140+ years after they were formed, "THE" OSUMB still maintains their military brass and percussion roots. The first year for the football team wasn't until 1890, and it was a small, inauspicious first several years playing against local schools at city parks, etc. The MB performed at an OSU football game for the first time in 1899.
Like all the Americans I have ever met, fantastic, polite and clean cut dedicated people Go Ohio
Ron Wylie
All the Americans you’ve met? Really? That’s actually nice to hear considering everyone I see that talks about Americans are usually complaining 😂
419 Wayward Kid* The Midwest is the nicest part of the United States lmao
Ryland Cook I know but they said “all Americans” lol
Ron Wylie - thank you.
For the most part, Americans are terrific. It’s just that the smaller number of not so nice ones get mentioned in the news and get the publicity. Don’t look at those as representative of us all. There are jerks in every country. Sadly. But they’re the minority, I promise.
Oh my goodness, I've somehow become an OSU band fan! It started with a chance latenight youtube viewing of drum major tryouts - -and now I'm hooked!
Same here...saw the tryout video yesterday at like 10pm and now at 652 am I'm on my 5th band video 😋
Sherry Nichols Me, too, lol! Since December I’ve watched almost every video on UA-cam and FB, and these guys and gals are amazing! Their hard work and drive is phenomenal. Plus, I’m retired military, and I love their uniforms. At the end, when the director said “Fall out!”...be still my infantry heart, lol. 🥁⚓️⚓️
Yep me too! watching David Pettit the drum major doing his try outs!
Same here! Just discovered this awesome band a few months ago. So glad I found them!!
wow, what a class act, OSU is.
Even when they travel, they are looking sharp.
Wow. Can't believe I'm just seeing this now. I'm an OSU alum living abroad. It was so, so cool to tell my fellow expatriates, especially the Brits, that you guys were playing Wembley. So, so VERY WEll DONE!! Way to represent. Script OHIO brought me to tears!
Every single person in that band has a guaranteed 4.0.
4.0 is probably the minimum 😎
@@johndoecrew664 Not sure if this is sarcasm or not, but in the US most of the major Colleges, OSU included 4.0 is a perfect grade point average.
Damn. I wish I had the grades to be in that band😂
4.0 is a requirement to even get your college application looked at. One of the hardest colleges to get into.
@@randallbanks1589 look it up. 4.0 is it.
Please keep music in the public schools, to provide talented and dedicated young musicians an opportunity to delight audiences in college stadium around the country ...and, apparently, beyond our shores as well.
Absolutely phenomenal, something truly good about America!
I've never watched football, but, this OHIO band is phenomenal. Such outstanding citizens.
I’ve watched this few weeks back & now my second viewing I felt more the best band won the hearts with the people of UK.
All the hard work time & energy put into Practice, & a lot of Organising going put Together. You can tell how much all these people taking part in the Marching band Enjoyed putting on Display in Wembley Station I Vote the best Talented Marching Band in the world. Awesome O. H. I. O. Go. Go. Go.
This makes me want to go to OSU and Join marching band!
Omg yeess
Good luck haha, it is very, very difficult to get in. It’s ridiculous and reasonable at the same time.
Yea they don't know nothing about the juke
i dont like to watch games, but if i could i would go to see them 😂
You don't just join that band. You're selected dnd have to try&out every year.
Damn shame the crowd wasn't nearly as enthusiastic as in the states
Trust me inside they are probably exploding with joy but they r Brits sooo they chilled
American Football in the UK is very very little here. Only NFL plays here and people just don't really like it here as I seen. The thing people like here is Football and Rugby basically it, they are one of the most popular sports here.
Ok. And rightfully so. The NFL has been trying to get them to like our football for years. It is basically just an annual spectacle. That isn't likely to change. Anymore than we will all stop work at 4pm for tea. Just not gonna happen. When in Saudi Arabia in the Marine Corps working with the British 8th Army, our CO was working with everyone on something as their unit commander was getting ever more nervous. Our CO thought he needed to make a head call (go to the bathroom). No, it was 5 minutes after 4pm. It was tea time!! A hell of a way to fight a war. Just different cultures and ways of living.
I'm in the UK, and can assure you that the audience will have enjoyed the show very much, but American football and marching bands just aren't our culture. But you should hear us go f'ing mental at a rugby match, which the US couldn't give a shit about. All that being said, my dad would have enjoyed this very much. He was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan after his uncle lived there for a while and got him into it. He would have loved to have gone to see an NFL team play in London. :) He used to watch American football games on late night tv all the time!
The problem was they put the Band on before the game, rather than at half time. At Ohio State, everyone knows to be in their seats 20 minutes before kick off to see the Band come in. Apparently that word did not get around in the UK. Why the NFL didn't have them play at halftime, I'll never know.
I have no words. These are college kids. Doing this out of pure passion. ❤
like they say we got the best damn band in the land O-H-I-O
Chris Denney meh Aggie band better
Yelp key phase “In the land of Ohio”
Na. USC has the best band fax
Conner Hartley no BCU best under rated band.
James Will USC. Best rated band.
oh the irony, playing the national anthem in london, where the song played is about the british bombing of an american city.
jeffrey mcfadden don't think they minded. They seemed to love it and looked very welcoming.
Hey Jeffrey - If we were to hold grudges ---- were would the human race start ? The OSU Marching Band playing our National Anthem in Wembley Stadium is a step forward . It might be a historical ironic fact , but it is more succinctly a healing of the desire to move on .
not to mention the singers were about a second late from the band
@@stevehilliard2342 Not to mention international protocol. No matter what country plays, the guest country (s) national anthems get played first followed by that of the host country. When in Sydney, Australia with ships of several different countries, we had to take turns with everything ending with Advance Australia Faire. Even though nothing was said if Waltzing Matilda was played instead. It had only recently been changed (20 years prior?)
Fuck ‘em. We saved their asses in WWII.
I have never like American music bands, until I found OSU, you guys rock!!! 👍👍👏👏
When your from Ohio :') So happy.
Yes
Well - I am 68 years old - ex San Diego State - you folks are unbelievable ! Thanks !
Just fabulous! Spreading patriotism and lm not even American 💚 love the Brits too. Thank you from Canada.
Man they burn those calories in all those deliberate moves. Pure athletes
THIS IS MY ALL TIME MOST FAVORITE BAND OF ALL TIME
You think footballs hard try marching band it’s harder
awesome..also worth noting that nfl fields have narrower hash marks than ncaa fields (which marching bands use as guides for positioning), requiring a significant adjustment in the program
Just amazing. These band members should feel so much pride in what they do. Amazing talent in each member
They are so flawless, I love this band.
It looks like they don't use the usual roll-step of heel-toe. That's very interesting...
The step they use is called the chair step and it is indeed toe to heel which is unique
Wow this was wonderful. I liked how they made designs on the field of places they toured. Also respecting the the Queen. What a great job.
As a Michigan fan this is awesome. Great show you guys OH..IO
I have loved the TBDBITL since I was watching OSU play Michigan back in the Woody Hayes and Beau Schembechler days. Was fortunate enough to attend an OSU vs. L'ville Cards game at Buckeye Stadium at field level and got to watch the pre-game and half-time shows. A very close game (Schnellenberger was our coach)...but the Band rocked! A humble "salute" to TBDBITL. You all are really, really GREAT!!!! (Thanks for sharing this perspective!) A sincere CONGRATULATIONS to this very storied and "historical" band. I hope, one day, that all future the band members get this type of experience in other countries!...and, let other cultures experience the very special and unique show that TBDBITL does!!! Y'ALL are THE BEST!
Congratulations 🎉. That is about as exciting as it was for me to be invited to the world fair in 1986 Vancouver BC. As Both of my City High Schools Symphonic Bands Got To Go . Bravo On Your Lifetime Achievement.
Great idea to flip "Script Ohio" so both sides of the stadium could read it!! Just thrilled to see this!
away games get double script ohio
home games get singles script ohio
1 home game a year has the alumni on the field and they do a QUAD FULL SIZE script ohio.
@@jeffreymcfadden9403 they’ll even do it at OSU basketball some times
Yo wtf, this is sick !!
Does this happen before every football game? or just big finals/championships. Disclaimer: I'm european and know nothing about american football
Short answer: Yes, they do something of the sort before every game, as well as during halftime.
The Ohio State University Marching Band has their own youtube channel. You can look up the shows they put on before and during American Football games. They put on a small pre-game show and perform the national anthem before the games start, and put on a differently themed show every week for halftime. I highly reccomend going and watching some of the stuff on their channel. Not to say anything bad about the Wembley crowd here because they were great, but when you watch some of the stuff they put on at their home stadium in front of over 100,000 fans, the feel you get is different.
Ohio State also has an Athletic Band, which is separate from the marching band and does shows for basketball, hockey, and other sport events.
The OSU Marching Band also takes part in parades, shows, and other events around the country. They also regularly do shows at high schools around Ohio. You can find these on youtube, though they are a bit more difficult to find.
This happens at college football games but very rare in NFL games. Unfortunately the nfl thinks JLo and Beyonce makes for better entertainment. College football is so much better anyways. Steeped in tradition
Yes. A show like this tends to be the halftime entertainment of college football. The Ohio State University Marching Band has a special tradition that it performs pregame as well.
@@kingjames1308the uniform design of the Ohio State University Marching Band is essentially the same as it was when the band was founded (modernized a bit and newer fabrics of course).
Never seen the double script Ohio before...spectacular.
They also do 4 at same time with alumni band.
Glad to came across your channel. Is this the only performance you have outside United States 🇺🇸?I would like to see more if there is please.if you could provide a link I appreciate it thanks!
very nice well done guys from a brit !
Talented! Playing the instruments and to be able to keep in sync and with the choreography. Amazing and much respect. Didn't know much about marching but definitely an admirer now
Bloody marvelous. Brilliant job well done.
budgie204 Even if you hate American football you gotta love marching band especially the OSU marching band. It's like the one thing missing from European football.
Well done, and a great representation of American talent. The cost of the trip must have been near a million dollars for that many band members.
Well worth it right?
that's chump change for the NFL.
@@imonlyhuman69 For the NFL, yes. Maybe not the OSU Marching Band.
The NFL paid for the trip.
@@Sobolady89 it's NCAA when it's college not NFL
Enjoyed your vid, you rep the USA in the best way
This was one outstanding performance! Stellar! 🔥 It brought me back to my days being in the band! Thanks for the memories! ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤
Would the owner of this channel please contact me? I own this particular video and am curious how it got posted. Thank you.
Ohio State News it was probably uploaded by going to UA-cam and pressing upload
I don’t think he gives a shit
Dont be a buzzkill man.
You should be able to report it to UA-cam as copyright infringement.
Looks like it was screen capped straight from your channel or another based on the shot at around 21:00
Gotta be a lot of proud mum'a and pops out there and rightly so.The UNI must be so proud.
You look so very smart guys.
Sad so many empty seats.
I have to take my hats off to the Americans, how do they do it? From Hollywood, Disney their sports...even down to microsoft and apple....
We just GITERDUN
They took their A game to London, TBDBITL
The melody to the national.anthem was actually from a drinking/club song The anacreontic song. Just something we borrowed from Britain (like everything else)
Why did some of the people leave their seats when the real show started?
It was halftime i think so people go get food.
Josh A and potty, and smoke, and just get out and stretch.
holy shet - that was just awesome!!
I last saw the Ohio St Marching Band at the Orange Parade in '77. They don't change, and I like that tradition. I'd like to see them in the Rose Parade. Maybe next year.
(This) Tradition is great. I agree.
I agree!
One of my co-workers was in the OSUMB from '76 - '80. He said it was great getting to go to a different bowl each of his four years (Orange, Sugar, Gator, Rose), which was a new thing in the Big Ten. Prior to 1975 in the Big Ten it was the Rose Bowl or nothing, and until '71/'72 the "No Repeat" rule prevented any Big Team team from going even to the RB if they had gone the year before. Even if you were undefeated and won the Big Ten, if you went to the RB the year before, you stayed home. Those were also the days of the "no more than three times on TV in two seasons" rule. How times have changed.
Modeste trompettiste, je ne me lasse pas de vous visionner sur internet. Mon grand rêve...... vous rencontrer un jour.
What purpose does the conductor serve? I think the band would do just fine without it...most can't even see what they are doing ?
I was just at the yearly marching band clinic and seeing Chris Hoch on screen was really disorienting because I just saw and spoke to him 3 days ago.
A shame they didn't do something similar for the first game in Germany. Hopefully if they do a game in France they'll bring back TBDBITL. Watching them play their quicker version of Les Regiments in front of (maybe) French fans would be interesting.
love the guys at the end
Love OHIO
Love the UK
This blew me away!
All I can say is thank you!
I left Ohio in 1977 and haven't been back, but this gave me a bit of a lump in my throat. Funny, I just got a call about my 50th class reunion today. I just might go.
_Why oh why oh why oh_

The USA has a tradition of beautiful bands, and this is more than other spectacular ones, great this presentation.
These guys and Texas A&M are the best I've ever seen.

Too cool! I realize I am late to the party, but great job, everyone!
That was bloody fantastic.....!!!!!
really really really outstanding . I'm so envy with you all guys. spectaculer
So cool seeing Ohio having a large presence in London!
When you want to perform with them but you play saxophone
How in HELL....Do these kids find time to study?
BADGUY...when I was in High School and College Band (Marching Band in this instance) we had early (7am) practice starting in June, and during the rest of the Summer it was an additional practice of 7pm! During school we had 7am practice prior to classes...then Band Class during the day....then after school lets out, every day except Fri in HS due to being game night. Being in Marching Band (this goes for Band period), just like on a Sports Team....requires at least a 2.0 Grade avg in order to be able to march in any event....Football HT Shows or Parades. It takes a load of discipline, and love for Band to voluntarily get out of bed at 6:15am (for me lol) starting in June, when many of your friends (outside of Band) are sleeping in (until the Football team begins Summer Practices), and missing out on many things in many Summer evenings lol. It helped that our Student Body LOVED our High School Marching Band that consisted of 210 members (in a small High School of around 1,000 students), and we won many Trophies for our efforts! When we travelled in our big yellow School Busses, people knew we had arrived as it took 6 of them to travel our Band on lol. Being in Band from 7th Grade (when I first picked up any instrument) through my Sophomore year in College (I dropped out to marry) were some of the best memories I have concerning those years. I was also the Head Drum Major my Junior and Senior years in HS and I was a Drum Major my Freshman year in College and Head Drum Major my Sophomore year! It takes a special breed of young people to be Band members lmao.
@@mikebridges7294 Don't know if I would agree with the pace you've just described, being good for students. What I mean is, getting through academics, and doing well at it, requires many hours of study. Grades are very important in securing the types of jobs that ALL students hope for when they leave these institutions. I could not fathom such a time consuming activity, like you described, while I was in either high school or college. It just seems like too much to expect from students...especially when it benefits the school and university.... probably more than the students... by inflating the income these institutions make from sports and band performances.
@@badguy1481 and yet over the many decades millions of us have successfully pulled it off. The same goes for athletes (very few ever reach the Pro level) in HS and College. Did sacrifices have to be made recreationally wise? Of course BUT, unless you had at least a 2.0 avg you couldn't participate. It's not easy, and that's part of why the numbers who participate are low in comparison to the number of students. Those of us who did participate in Band, Sports and other School Organisations will overwhelmingly state that participation was a huge plus. Participating is not for everyone but, for those of us who have done and do now believe it's extremely worth it. 1 HUGE plus is it kept a majority of us out of trouble lol. If it weren't possible to do, it would have been discontinued decades ago. BTW I was in the Top 10% of my Graduating Class in HS, and I kept my grades up in College....until I decided to drop out, get married and start a family.
Don't you think the same can be pondered for college football and basketball players? I see no difference, but you have a valid question.
@@mikebridges7294 Yeah, my son played varsity FB mostly as a DE but also some LB and FB, and they really had no "off season". Technically the coaches couldn't officially require some of the off season conditioning, weight room, etc, but if you didn't show up for something that was mandated or merely "highly suggested" (wink wink), you weren't going to see the field in the fall. They didn't have much of a summer break, either. Two-a-days started in the heat and humidity of July at 6 am every morning while most of their fellow students were sleeping in and enjoying their summer break. Several of the players were multi sport. My son also lettered in wrestling as a heavyweight, along with a few other FB team members, while others also did track and field in the spring. In the meantime of course they had to go to class and keep their grades up. It's a huge commitment.
Can you reach out to us? I am curious how you came about posting this video that we shot and produced. Did someone from OSUMB give you permission? Thank you.
If you're truly the owner of the footage in this video and have a copyright to this footage, then report this channel for copyright violation. Not sure how this works but good luck lol.
So proud of y'all
Ohio strong 💪
why is this no thing in europe?? jaja, we have volksmusik but come on, this 1billion times tops austropop!!!!! and where is the halftimeshow with soccer? or .. skiing? ( i know there isnt a halftime, why not make one and sell, sell, sell.... AND HAVE MARCHING BANDS)
i'm in tears
It is pretty amazing, all those formations and marching!
Hate buckeye football, but god damn their band is impressive
I wish the Huskies had a band like this. They are awesome
Good but somehow they lack the dignity and elegance of the Band of the Coldstream Guards
the British audience was very underwhelmed and not very appreciative of all that hard work. The performance was wasted on them.
Well that’s a rather scolding comment
Obvs the stadium wasn’t full my guy
Chill bro, marching band isn’t for everyone
@22:01 those guys... yes. I can relate to them 😂
I want the autograph of all, we need a large notebook :O
Nerdy bad guys with awesome Majors. My future husband.
awesome glad you had fun in the GB UK hope too see you back here some day
Man I'm gonna miss this if college football get's cancelled because of COVID this year :(
Thankfully the Big 10 has reversed their decision. I am a UNC alum and very glad that we can go back to some sort of normal. The OSU band rocks and is the best!
