Script Ohio is actually based on a French revolutionary song called régiment de sambre-et-meuse which talks about a French regiment that knew their fate was death but still continued to March to preserve the name of Freedom
My dad played trumpet for the OSU marching band all four years he attended the school. Glad to see in the comments I’m not the only one that gets a bit teary watching this, has to be one of the greatest pregame traditions in all of sports.

far from an Ohio State fan, but "Script Ohio" just cannot be beat. How hard they must practice. It must be harder to get into and stay in the OSU band than into the football team! Would love to see SO in person on day.

And hearing Coach Urban Meyer introduce them as such at the Skull Session before the game was one of the great thrills of my life. Born and Bred Buckeye For Life!!!
Insane, as always. I was in band all through college. Making this work every home game takes incredible discipline because of the limited time to work it while you work the main halftime show. As a senior I got the green light to change our drum section entry to make it easier to march and more fan friendly to view.
Always impresses me to watch the band perform. I am impressed how when the band members have to cross each others path and they snap the instrument out of the way of the other band member so they don't collide.
So glad to have found this! Growing up, way back when, I watched a lot of college football and always loved when Ohio State played because TV always featured the bands at halftime. (Not any more tho.) First time I saw the script Ohio and dotting the i was just amazing. It still is!
Awesome band! Few can touch them. They don't need all the wiggling jiggling dancing girls to make them look good either. They sound and look good on their own.
In 1966, I graduated from Fredericktown Ohio (50 miles north of Columbus). Fredericktown's Music Director from 1962 to 1966 was Mr. Ned Brooks, who went to OSU 1958-1961. Mr. Brooks started Fredericktown's marching band's traditions of the pregame "Ramp" and doing the "Script F" to "Le Regiment". Being a small school and having only 50-some band members, doing a "script Fredericktown" was out of the question! I was not in band until my Junior year. Mr. Brooks found out that I twirled a baton and he wanted a Drum Major, which Fredericktown had not had in about 40 years. [To tryout as a Drum Major, you had to have 1 year of band] So my Junior year I was on bass drum, and became Drum Major my Senior year.
I never get tired of watching this and I’m an SEC fan! Great band is always fun to see. Totally agree that they would be a better half time show for the Super Bowl.
I'm normally a fan of the Aggie Band's precision drill but I will give props to Ohio State's precise and imaginative march on. I hate the way the way the Aggies just shamble on the field like so many bands do in this day and age. Back in my day the march on was just as precise as the rest of the program.

Let this band do the halftime show at the Super Bowl. I'd bet it would be received just as well as the rock extravaganzas that are usually performed.
Agreed it would make the grounds crew happier to I bet
It’d probably be received even better than the normal halftime in my opinion
I agree totally. A marching band has talent and prestige, unlike those so called entertainers they force on us at halftime.
Rock stars are a joke....Marching bands are for football
