I took your artist works lessons and holy shit did I see improvement. I’m mainly into harder/heavier rock and metal but your country and blues styles was eye opening and only added on to my playing 👊🏻👊🏻 respect
@@stratslinger3921 I was thinking of asking the same thing (I'm not very fond of country music), but I have to admit, I've learned a lot more about the guitar neck and what it is capable through his "country" lessons on Artist Works than I have with any other source. And I've tried a lot of them. I'd highly recommend it, and skip to the intermediate or advanced sections.
@@stratslinger3921 you sign up for the whole curriculum but It’s not like he’s sitting there teaching you country or blues licks. It’s a lot more about visualization. There’s probably 150 different lessons he has. I just stuck with the ones I liked/found interesting/useful
Can we have your mom’s recipe for the dip?
@@stratslinger3921 What country artists have you listened to?
@@slayinbass2396 not the right ones I don't think 😅
Quick saying you don't want to play for too long on this UA-cam format...Please! Play as long as you want, brother! We are super grateful and never take one minute of your time for granted! Love what you do and love that your heart is still in it, all the way!
Imagine not having the TLC "Waterfalls" or Soundgarden "Black Hole Sun" or Blind Melon "No Rain" videos burned into your brain? Or not having to save your lunch money all week in jr high so you could afford to buy one cassette tape at the mall on Saturday? Or not having your 90 minute blank queued up to tape something off MTV or the radio and hope the DJ didn't talk over the intro? I'm glad we grew up in an era where there was still a level of sacrifice and investment and knowledge we had to chase and commit to (although I'm a huge fan of Spotify and UA-cam channels like yours!).
Much thanks for all this content, you really present the material in a clear and engaging manner. I was lucky enough to study with / roadie for Tomo Fujita from '97-'02 (I've got a couple months on you, 9/78) and he was always emphasizing CAGED and triads, and it's stuff I "know" and can play but I really don't KNOW everything immediately with all the intervals and scale degrees without hesitation, and your recent videos have inspired me to go back and do the heavy-lifting homework.
Wasn't there going to be a video with Tomo Fujita? Did I miss it?
The other thing you hit on around the 7:30 mark is "not outlining every chord and sounding like you're trying too hard" - watching your video and reading my own initial comment and it's like, why did I not just learn this stuff in the first place? But at the time it was Nirvana, Radiohead etc. and when I moved to Boston there were ads for original bands that were "pro gear / chops / 'tude - NO BERKLEE" as it was considered very uncool to practice or try or know basics like what key a song was in back in the 90s/00s, as if it would stifle your creativity if you knew what the hell you were playing and could explain it; the worst form of "keeping it real" (ignorant).
It's been good for me to have a foot in the wedding / cover band world as well as the cool-kid indie stuff, but the older I get, solid fundamentals is where it's at. Know the neck, play the damn melody, practice with a metronome, learn how to really accompany the singer or soloist, always have big ears - and don't try too hard.
Hey GT, just wanted to thank you for keeping it so real. Your not only a GREAT musician but you talk to us like your hanging with a good friend. Don't every doubt that you are inspiring a ton of players to be better musicians and better people. Thanks again and God bless !
My birth date is February 1. And next year I'm travelling the 4000 miles to Nashville on 9 February, to celebrate. Hope I get to see you play Mr. G. Thanks for the top lessons.
Mines on the 7th. Age of Aquarius lol
I’ve gone in deep with my man, Trapp, and I’m sold!
We used to come home from the bar and watch 120 minutes to see who the latest gunslinger was. In the 90's it seemed like there were a few new great bands coming out every week. Keep on livin'✌️
I watched MTV during its heyday. The Clash, Flock of Seagulls, Duran Duran, Billy Idol, ZZ TOP, Huey Lewis, could go on for days. That was the beginning of my guitar adventure and I'm still at it.
I'm old enough to remember life without cable TV. There was Don Kershner's Rock Concert on Friday nights and buying an album, closing the door to your room and listening to every inch of the record, digesting the lyrics and staring at the cover art. In those days there were virtual videos...i.e., whatever images the tune put into your imagination. Thank you again Guthrie for another great lesson. No joke, I watched this video eating some organic peanut butter (stirring necessary) on some Ezekiel bread.
Me too. Albums were so much better than the dang CDs when they first came out, and ever since.
Don't forget wearing the record out in those solo parts by playing in at 16 rpm
I have bought every almost every single one of my guitars from Vic DaPra (author of the books). I pop by his shop every other week or so. He's retired and not there anymore, but he's always been an awesome person to me and my students. I always tell myself; when I want to pull the trigger on something special and old, he's the guy. Thanks for the vid as always, man!
There is like weeks and weeks, if not months of stuff to unpack in this video. Thanks GTrapp!
I seriously watch the same videos 10 times and get something new every time! Need to schedule a lesson!
Such a true story about all the guitar players in Nashville. I've lived here for 25 years now and can have those same sorts of conversations in the most unsuspecting places. There's a saying in Nashville that's true. Shake a tree, and 50 guitar pickers will fall out. 👊🏾
My Dad helped me hook my 2 deck tape recorder/boom box up to my tv with RCA cables. I filled a 90 minute Maxell with Paradise City. Over and over. It was always number #1 on the MTV Countdown so I knew exactly when to record.
Can't get enough of these Guthrie videos. loving that the content has been upped past few weeks. 🤟
Another little lesson with about eleventeen million little concepts to practice, you're the bees knees witout a doubt, many thanks.
Thanks Guthrie! Another great lesson. I remember when MTV first came on. Def Leppard, Tom Petty and a bunch of new wave groups. Long time ago. You got me pulling up Doc Watson tabs with the Deep River Blues intro.... Keep em' coming. We all appreciate your efforts.
80’s was the best!
Def Leppard! My Mom precisely shredded a pair of jeans for me.
The world is lucky to have you. Your channel will continu8e to grow without a doubt. Congrats on your continued success, and thanks for the snack tips!
Thank you sir. You enthusiasm and love of music is obvious. Please continue sharing your knowledge and feel free to make these excellent lessons as long as you like. :)
I saw the Billy Gibbons tribute show the other day. Loved how you stood quietly in the back until it was time to blow every other player off of the stage.
Blues on a Jazz axe by a Country Player!!!lol Love you Brother Guthrie
Mr GT, i think i would need to train for a marathon to keep up with your amazing schedule. It means a lot that you share some of your everyday life, it makes the music and teaching even more meaningful. I have heard so many people talk about playing Major/Minor and they make it confusing. You make make this so straightforward to understand. Not splitting Chords from Scales really is the key. Thanks so much.
Channeling some T-Bone with those 9th chords!
Always a pleasure to watch you play and also philosophize on life as a musician in Nashville.
Love those headphones, insanely good value and you see them in top studios all over the world. My first pair lasted 7 years, and I instantly replaced them with the same model
Lemme tell y'all a little bit about who this man is... I know him enough to render an opinion. Known him about eleven years through a mutual brother. I have a son who showed interest and had him in lessons early on. The night I met G, I was telling him about it and he offered to help me get my son a good instrument, and I didn't know who Guthrie was at the time. Just hanging out with friends and Guthrie was there. More than kind, this man. Later on, a couple of years later, I had the means and reached out to Guthrie to teach my kid, and I think he was just starting to do this, and he welcomed my son with arms opened wide and set him on a path, and if y'all could only hear my kid play - not joking, I'm a proud papa. And I'm proud of GT - he is truly a cool ass cat and a good dude. Love you man.
that intro was gorgeous and its the defacto sound for that 335 style
Thank you so much, I just see your channel and it is clearly a real freshness to listen to you, it's so melodious, a fantastique discovery, thank you very much from france
I know I don’t personally know you GT, but you just seem like a good human and you give me hope for this crazy world!! I remember when you had 2600 subs which was when I joined. You make my day when you post.
Love how it sounds loose when you throw in some triplets and always find you way back to the perfectly maintained meter. Always a joy. Thanks!
You are the man Guthrie. Everyone digs your videos. One of your buddies is one of my favorite players, Kenny Vaughn. Ever consider inviting him over for a little impromptu somethin somethin? Would be pretty cool
Thanks for your instruction, Guthrie. Picking up a lot in a short amount of time. I'm going to start teaching my neighbors pre-teen boys to play guitar. Going to have them watch your instructional videos to help them along, too.
I've thought of music as a language since I was a kid, but never thought of it in the context of food. So, I'm watching my musical diet and ingesting instruction with "a high amount of musical nutrients", as you said. 😉😋😅
You seem like a genuinely good person (and a great guitar player). Much respect.
Guthrie - every time I watch I learn something new, thank you. You've really opened my mind to the fretboard, something I was sorely lacking. Also, I am a peanut butter snob and can only eat two brands of peanut butter, Peanut Butter Co. being one. Thanks again.
I also hit the bridge pickup with my pick often when playing my ES guitar. Kept hearing that familiar clink when his hand was over the pickup
Hey Guthrie, you keep saying "you guys are awsome". It's you who's awsome here. Looove your playing, dude!
Congratulations on 55,000 subscribers Bud. I know you are headed for 6 figures!!!! Keep doing what you are doing cause we are loving it. Thanks for sharing your skills, experiences and knowledge. God bless
Best guitar lesson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As usual, you deliver the "nuggets". Thanks man, great stuff.
Just saved with all my other Guthrie lessons. The best man. Thank you.
Great stuff Guthrie! I could listen to you all day long. Your playing is unparalleled. Thank you!
Thankyou for the insight, improving steadily, now that i've discovered you! 🎸🤘🎸
Love your videos Guthrie. That thing you were playing, at the beginning, has a heavy West Coast Blues vibe. Keep the videos coming 😃
Best guitarist on you tube, no doubt about it....
Really nice Guthrie, thanks for guiding us here!
Thanks for all these recent videos, G! Love em man
Thanks GT.....keep the vidz coming!
We started with a lot of guitar nutrients, and ended off with some proper nutrients. Great video Guthrie. Full disclosure, I'm taking every idea you have here and stealing it lol. The good news is that I'll screw it up enough in the process that it'll become my own.
I am off today and I know what I am going to be doing! Thanks Guthrie. Keep the channel growing
Thanks for that 6 4 5 turnaround- I'm going to work on that!
You're on a roll. It's a blast getting to ride in the backseat of your Journey. "Keep your eyes on the road and your hands upon the wheel". Much respect Guthrie...
I agree about the age thing. I went out if my way to show my son a tape player. Thanks for sharing your life experiences.
Love this stuff. Love your Artistworks course too. Ignore the haters - people seem shocked that there isn't a magic bullet to play as well as somebody who has been playing since they were 5 and does it professionally. Without exception , if I've had an issue with anything you've put out, it was because I was trying to jump ahead without having the foundational stuff under my fingers. Keep it up man!
I’m mostly a metal and punk player but damn I love your lessons. I get so much out of them. Thank you so much!
Guthrie, you're such a real and laid back dude. Really appreciate the videos and the amazing playing. Keep doing what you do man
Another cool lesson, loved your 12 bar blues and turn arounds in the intro, very melodic! It was great blues but also reminded me of how the jazzbos link up their chords and melodies. Took me back to 1950's recordings for what it’s worth. Well done G man!
Oh, my God! The Valencia almonds! They are amazing!
Too funny man I remember my very first video on the TV and where I was at Houston Texas at my uncle's house it was Phil Collins I can feel it coming in the air. I was mesmerize
Exceptional lesson! I'm just going to go through it again using the slow-downer to make sure I've got the key points.
The peanut butter at the end cracked me up :)
That 335 is sweet!
Thank you Guthrie. Once again some great practical info. I appreciate you partner!
Happy (belated) B'day, Guthrie!
Sorry I missed the get-together....
sure I woulda loved it!
👌 👌
Thanks for sharing the knowledge. I really do appreciate it!
Hi Guthrie, please show some recordings with the huge mistakes included! I know you don't charge extra and it gives me some hope. I am always so amazed by your improves at the beginning of your videos. You play some awesome peace and then say, "haha, thats just me fooling around here, .."
Some bloopers would be nice to see, LOL.
BTW , I really love your most recent lessons on the "Chord shape Fundamentals" and now followed by this lesson on connecting it with pentatonics.
Many, many thanks!!!! These are pure gold!!!
Thank you for valued time and knowledge !
Thank you for your info
You are a an inspiration to me and my journey
You make me want to drop everything and pick uo my guitar. Much thanks GT.
One of your finest works 👍🏻👍🏻
Wow another content rich post, lots to practise again! 😍
Hi Guthrie, love the way you compose these lessons 'from the loose wrist' as we do say here. And love how you, in the midst of battle pick on the pickup too! ;-) You have covered a lot of ground but i would like to ad something to the gumbeau. Guitarplayers seem to be notorious fretboard gazers. Sometimes when im ina good mood i close my eyes, think of the blues and hit the low open Astring and plant my finger somewhere randomly on the fretboard and listen..... to what the tone has to say. Then move to the open D string and repeat the procedure, and the open Estring. Playing a blues progression this way is pretty confronting stuff but rewarding. Another nice way to get to know the fretboard is, with the evil eyes closed, to play arpeggios, and to use sliding for as much as you/i can handle. Sliding has 2 advantages, during the slide you/i imagine what the next tone is going to be, this way im faster than my fingers. + a long slide is rythmically interesting, because sliding takes time. Another thing is playing sliding doublestops, 'in' one chord, say G major, on just 2 strings up and down the neck, with eyes closed and ears open. How you would phrase these slides rythmically is something i would look forward to in a lesson.
Thanks!
Another great lesson, thank you. Exactly what I'm looking for. Melodic lines from chord to chord. You've been a huge help, thank you so much. Looking forward to the next video!
Hi Guthrie, I just signed up for a year with you on Artist Works. Can't wait to see how much my playing improves with your guidance. Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us. Stay safe. Mudkatmark
Hey man, thanks for the Gold Top and Burst book info! And of course, another top notch lesson. I woke up this morning wondering what I would practice, and now I know!
Great video, you deserve the success, congrats!
Another great video man! Great job on asking to hit the light button. For me personally, I always forget and when someone says "remember to"... it reminds me that I want to. So keep asking, you deserve it brother. Great content!
Cheers, Kirk
Pure gold! Keep up the great content. Loved the vids of you, uncle Larry and Brett hangin out and pickin!! Great stuff!
Audio came back, fantastic!
Wow that was great performance
Superb playing. Greetz ✌🏼
Man i dig your style and way of explaining things.
Keep up the amazing job!
Positivity rules 🤟
Guitar tuition and dietry advice, an original angle i must say but enjoyed it immensely as ever, many thanks !
Congrats on 55k, Guthrie! Well deserved! I appreciate the lessons and really enjoy hearing stories of life as a musician in Nashville. I had the pleasure of visiting Nashville in 2020, but unfortunately didn’t get a chance to catch you in action….Some other time I’m hoping. Cheers!
Absolutely loved this dude. Makes me want to move to Nashville.
Thanx mr Trap good man giving up all that info
Thank you GT, an excellent lesson as always, and I appreciate the peanut butter and chocolate info very much👍👍
Wow, Looks so easy, But even at slow Speed its Not Easy. I will continue to Practice. Thank You for the Lessons
Another cracking video Guthrie and yeah, 55k Subscribers too.
Really loving the content man, love your openness, honesty and realness (is that a word?) Dean.
I love your last couple of lessons, they really made something click for me and have open'd up alot! Will join artist works as soon as possible.
PS. Love ya for talking about pentatonics for a second and peanut butter for the other 😄
That's cool one. A real treat, especially at the end.
Very educational video, Thank you
Dude, I love how you changed your attitude to the better to be honest I stopped watching but these last vids you did on your comeback are great Im really understanding it better I really appreciate all the hard work you put in these new vids. Cheer's
Thanks man. Not sure what changed. Our energy comes and goes I guess.
@@guthrietrappmusic I've been watching this channel for several years - as far as I can tell the only thing that changes are the hats and the fact we see less of the green Floyd Tele these days. The content is, as ever, excellent. Cheers, Guthrie.
@@guthrietrappmusic it was just your energy dude Dagmaous wants to fight I see and be a dissagreeer but it's all good keep up the great work.
Great to see/hear you as frequently as you’ve been posting lately. Take Care and Keep ‘em coming!👍🎸✌️😎
Love what you do. The Artists Works curriculum is really helping me learn. This video made me laugh - pentatonic theory to go figure out, gourmet olives and candy, and books from Billy Gibbons….
Thanks for the nice lesson!!
Aloha brother, just friggin beautiful man. Thanks for sharing warmest aloha to you
Cool lesson guthrie! Keep more stuff like this coming! Maybe repeat guitar lines a couple more times and slow down just a tad😉. Love your content man! Thanks!
Enjoying your stuff man, keep it coming
Have an idea of the year of that ES 335 ‘traptail’? Good stuff, Guthrie … you rock.
Can someone please transcribe this for me 😂 I know it’s lazy but it’s just pure gold. I’d simply just play this for the rest of my life
Hey GT… Hey man, I don’t know where to start when it comes to online lessons and learning, but ikm gonna check out your artist works, coz man your style is so natural and encouraging… thanks for the content… from Christchurch New Zealand
Happy Birthday tomorrow! Rock on!
GT I’ve been watching and listening to your videos for some years now and always great material!! Seriously it’s crazy how much amazing material is out there on the web I keep bouncing between you and Kirk Fletcher. You guys are killer. I really enjoyed your 6251 improv in the beginning of this video. Wondering if you could touch more on that? I know it’s the same concept of approaches to chords however I’d love to hear some of your thoughts and ideas upon the matter. Thanks for all that you do!!
