Watch this and work with the simple yet profound concepts this great player introduces. You'll be very glad you did.

20:18 he plays one of the most beautiful, unrushed, soulful musical pieces any of us have ever heard, then comments "That was a terrible example." Add humble to his list. Unlike most players, when he was playing I sensed zero % ego of that he was trying to show off. I was honored to watch a musical prodigy who does not quite understand how amazing he is. I am hoping "some" of this- any of this will rub off on this non-prodigy (who still relies on a digital tuner.)

I've been working on Triads and their inversions for some time now and I know the shapes for the Major and minor traits as well on all 4 string sets. I know them intervallicaly. This is a great lesson to really focus on and learn how the intervals overlap from one triad to the associated triads. In this case the 1-3m-6m-4M-5M resolving back to the 1. I'm sure I'll be coming back to this vid for a few weeks at least to get this down hard! Too bad we can't give a vid like this a thumbs up every time we watch it.

I love that people say 'don't get too UA-camy'....it can be a fantastic vehicle for musicians and students alike, and can certainly get your name out there in a way that might not be possible otherwise. People like Tim Pierce have really kick started a nice little living and much broader fan base by using this medium to teach. Great videos anyway man, I've been playing for 31 years, many of those professionally and I'd watch these even if I knew a lot of what you were teaching because you're interesting, and easy to listen to.

I wish they had UA-cam as a kid because while trying to learn how to solo over changes it was all scales and modes and you had to overthink and everything sounded like scales and it was just confusing and unmusical. This is so simple and yet so musical and easy to learn. I appreciate it. And i am a hat man. I like Bailey's of Hollywood

Guthrie, frankly, these two triad lessons are probably the most helpful I've seen in a long time. I've known about the CAGED system before it was called that and know that basically there are triads for everything in a specific key right around it on the fretboard, G in this example. Problem is in my head I always default to scales over chord tones, which is the difference. I need to start using my looper to create simple chord progressions to get this kind of lead playing down, instead of messing around with songs I've been soloing over forever.

Some of your "off the cuff remarks" Guthrie are so key to understanding your point. For example you said at the end that the note you end on in your phrasing highlights the chord your working with. This is a key point in making a melody work with a chord progression. What is trivial to you and assumed by those that are fluent in the execution of a piece is most important to those learning the concepts and delivery structure of music. You know so much Guthrie by being at the coal face of playing music for so long that you under estimate what you have learnt and know........ :-)
