This was such a perfectly phenomenal example of abusers gaslighting and emotionally manipulating their victims. The son using the father's emotions against him, trying to persuade him into believing that everything he thought and felt was wrong, and everything was his fault.
The mother was wise to it though, maybe because she had already had time to process these things without actually being in the equation.
Overall, amazing acting, concept and pace

@@tudorpopica3291 cinema is a piece of art, and art doesn't always have to be palatable to be good. The entire film made my skin crawl with dread and discomfort, but that's the point! This movie is _supposed_ to horrify you, if it doesn't, you're the one who's fucked up.
We can't always just ignore things like this, something disgusting that actually happens in real life. Sweeping it under the rug and acting like it doesn't exist is not how to treat this, and this is coming from a survivor of severe gaslighting and physical and sexual abuse.
Something that Oscar Wilde said about books is applicable here too.
"The books that society calls immoral are the ones that show the society its own monsters."

This is such a great short, I can't believe this was the first thing Ari Aster ever did. If you look at Mike Flanagan's first shorts they seem so amateur in terms of the acting and production value, and he's huge now. This seems so professional and the acting is amazing. Such a dark concept too, I don't think I've ever seen a film about this.

I’ve seen this movie too many times it’s missing parts. But what the movie saying if anyone is listening close. This first scene shows his dad explaining “it’s natural” in the between time of 14 years his dad was doing him, but the boy didn’t mind bc he liked his dad more than normal, the dad knews that. What the dad didn’t know, was the boy was going to flip it on him. When they were taking the first set of pictures, that day was the first day he did his son and his son loved it. His dad was daydreaming bc he couldn’t believe he got by with it. Dad was soft talking… pedos usually soft spoken and don’t have friends… the mom was scared bc she didn’t have friends to talk to just her family. She didn’t want to break the perfect image they built bc the dad is a poet. If the mom would have tried anything it would have been the same outcome, the son would harm both bc he was too aggressive. And the wife could have been next if she was poking around. But the girlfriend knew something too but she didn’t say anything either. Women don’t say much if they don’t have their ducks in the row.. this is what I gather

darn... I'm looking for an obscure movie where a black father and son are sitting together and having a talk about how this young man is having trouble in life... his father tells him he's living at the , "epicenter of everything wrong with the world today." (the son's trying to make sense of life in LA)
I think I saw it on some movie channel back in 2005 or something... it stuck out in my mind as being a very honestly candid and interesting conversation. But i remember nothing else about the movie.
