Soooo many times I wish we had the content of mmos as single player games. Contrary to their nature I don't play mmo's for other people. I play to experience the amazingly crafted worlds quests raids and other stuff. But i'm forced to share it on laggy servers with millions of people

Damn I miss this game.. It was SO good.. One of my favorite mmos! But now, it is just so dead.. I tried to launch it at February, but then there was something about some server migration and such because someone else was taking over the game or something.. Might go in on one of my old characters for a bit, just to see for myself how it is now ^^

Pretty much the problem with MMO's nowadays. Your game might be good but if it's not quite a bit better than the popular/active mmo's it's going to be dead quickly.

When this game came to Brazil, without P2W, the servers was always full. But, after One year later, Valofe took control of the server. :(
It was one of the best content focused MMO with the emphasis on mounts that I've played. It's not like those games that just show that they have mounts and aerial combat neither of which do affect the gameplay on a fundamental level as much as the mounts on Riders of Icarus does. It sucks, however, that the monetization in the game and the hollowness of the servers really led many people such as myself to leave the game altogether. Just out of curiosity last year I revisited the game and it was emptier than my tinder inbox. Back when I was playing the publisher was Nexon, so, go figure as to why it was so barren. It's not surprising to see MMOs with similar monetization schemes milk as much as they can and then shut down the servers and die that when said MMO in which the combat, though is affected fundamentally by the mounts, is heavily reliant on the enchantment (items could reach up to +25 IIRC) of player's equipment, and that those enchantment items can be bought to circumvent or by-pass every difficulty one may face during the enchantment by spending real money on item shop (i.e. P2W).
You cannot find anyone to do content with; the world bosses, though were ludicrous at the time I was playing actively with a guild in god remembers which server and when are very tough; some of the most sought-after mounts in the game are almost impossible to tame and they require you to do the same content over and over again mostly in heroic mode (or the hardest mode for any content in the game, I may have confused the name); and the game still runs like shit in certain areas. There is a lot to do when you log-in, daily quests and dice-rolls. Back when I was playing they had given away the best 40 level armour set to everyone who was playing in the new server. I've done all the content with that armour set until 56 and it was a smooth experience. Aerial mounts look cool but ground mounts have the most utility and can be used for making seals which will boost your item stats immensely. I used to farm like 12 hours a day for certain heroic profitable mounts and level them up to maximum, sealing them away and putting them on items to use or sell to make more profits.
The systems and mechanics in RoI would make a really good single-player experience. And in 2020 you don't really get to pick whether you want single-player or not because nobody plays the game :)
I played this game when it was still being handled by Nexon. At time I played it was not really so pay to win as you may think, I even got the Alsacian gear to max enchant (+25 I think it was or maybe a bit lower) which was the most OP thing at the time. You could get that gear either crafting it with mats from some dungeon or buying it from other players. Buying it from other players was actually pretty easy at time, since all I did was to tame monster, seal them and sell in the market.
The game did had the usual Asian Enhancement/enchant/whatever system, the one in which your gear goes +1, +2, etc... but strangely nexon was always giving those enchantment items that make your item go +20 or something for free (it was long time ago so don't really remember the name of the items) they also gave a lot of ellum which was one of the currencies used in the store and to unlock some stuff, but that ellum could also be used to protect your gear when enchanting fails. I think one of the reasons why Nexon was always giving free stuff was 'cause they had lots of problem with the game like: login issues, characters stuck in certain areas, multiple bugs after some updates, etc, etc. Thing is that they were always giving compensation due those problems, so I was able to easily max my assassin gear at the time.
A few months before I quit however, they implemented some new system that I don't remember how it works, but which was considered p2w at time. In that system you could either get the mats from world Bosses or from the store.
The game also got some dragon seals that ruined pvp for many people. I never really cared about pvp, but I can understand the frustration for the people who liked it.
The main reason why I quit this game was not really the p2w since p2w was mostly important for pvp players and icarus is more pve than pvp. The reason why I quit was mainly 'cause I just got bored. Once you get most of the mounts there is not much to do aside from keep taming legendary things. Some of the most rare mounts are almost impossible to tame 'cause there were veteran players camping them, those players some time would even kill the monster if you tried to tame them and the game had really few channels at the time. Aside from those veteran players the game was also pretty much dead when I left. The Nexon dropped the game and valofe got the publishing rights and even more people left after that since a lot of the players lost their characters during the data transfer process.
Also the bad optimization thing is true, this game looks beautiful, specially considering that is already old, but you get a huge amount of stuttering, freezes and massive frame drops at some areas, specially when there are too many players at same place. To be honest what you see on this video is nothing, even if he does have frame drops, the game still seems responsive. But when you are at one of those world boss events, and there are 20 or more players at same place, you will just see a freaking slideshow.. Doesn't matter if you had at the time an i7 or ryzen 7 with good graphic card, you would still get 2 fps or something in events with a lot of people around you.
Sad end for the game 'cause even with all the flaws it had was still fun to play, but I don't really feel like playing it again.

Loved this game. Going for rare mounts and having to farm the required materials to be able to tame legendary mounts was great.
I've played this game a very long time, a few years with some breaks inbetween here and there. You want some thoughts? I can give you mine.
Lets start up with the pros:
The game still has a great story and as said in the video, a great amount of content to play for. You can do PVP, PVE, dungeons, raids, world bosses, questing, taming, crafting, etc. And if you're here to play just to tame everything in this game, I guess it might be something for you.
I don't know if I can name up all the cons though, but lets get to it:
It was a great game, until it migrated. But short before that, it already got ruined by 1 simple P2W mount: Puff Dragon. The puff dragon is a MAJOR and VERY HARD BOOST on your charakter, that will easily and simply put you down in seconds when in PvP with someone who has those seals and pet. It's overpowering so much it's expensive as hell if you don't pay, except with ingame currency. And even then getting that currency is not as easy for everyone. Which is another point to discuss.
The Magician is one of the latest newest added classes to the game. It is a lollipop girl and it's outshining every other class. Several people claim it to be the strongest class, and from seeing and using it myself, I know those claims are true. Add those puff seals too and you can solo ANYTHING on the highest level basically. And while that class is grossily overpowered, the wizard is grossily UNDERpowered. Heck, a PRIEST is even stronger than a wizard! And that class is supposed to be a healing supoort class. So the classes need a serious rebalancing done.
You've already explained the settings yourself. I can only agree. I'm on a decent PC which can run plenty, it may be old but even then on the lowest settings it should've run smoothly.... It did not. I put everything down as far as the depths of hell and still I get lags, frame drops and just completely freeze at times. I've even crashed for 0 reasons! (Which will become another point later on). Especially when I open my familiar list. I got so many it takes nearly 10 seconds of freezing before I can do anything again, ridiculous. And settings that you change can be very disappointing. Like those names, lucky for me I do like seeing names, especially when I'm looking for a legendary familiar with a huge flying route, very helpful.
Reporting crashes on the website, you'd think they would help you right? I reported the random crashing issue I had about 5 months ago? Somewhere around it? And I still have gotten no response. (Lucky me the crashes have disappeared now that I had come back from another break caused by those crashes). So the service seems to be pretty lousy from what I've experienced. If I didn't know better, I would nearly say they only help people who pay.
We should also consider the playerbase, it definitely isn't perfect and even far from it. The game isn't as dead as you might expect. It can depend on which server you join, that you'll find people or not. But even then. Do you really want to play in a high populated server? I've seen toxicity in several servers between players and the servers. It's horrendous and really bad. People start causing drama and will be extremely toxic about anything if given the chance. Luckily the most toxic and worst are pretty rare sight, unless you find the leader of the biggest alliance or guild around. You're at that point staring at them or near the toxic person. It's gotten so bad at times the game seems more of a cyberbullying program than a fun game to play.
There is probably more I can write down in the cons, but if I completely burn down this game it will certainly be dead. For some dumb reason they added a fifth server in EU even tho Velzeroth and Raken have been dying so horribly you don't even notice they exist at times. And they add another server while others are dead? They should've started merging not add more for stupid pvp events! (Not that those matter anymore, Koroshimo in EU has taken that over since others don't find any use fighting them anymore due to their damn seals and classes they use- and I'm leaving out the drama and server-death from the other servers as a reason!).
So overall; this game WAS absolutely beautiful and worth playing. Especially when I first played when about lvl 35-40 max was out. Huge playerbase and actual fun. But ever since near migration to after it, it's only been getting worse and worse. Nexon gave this game to Valofe and it's been deteriorating horribly. I hate to see it go this way, it's ruined. As far as it is now, it's better off to another company, or SHUT. DOWN.
There's my thoughts, feel free to disagree on things, just know this is all I've uncovered and experienced, so I'll be stubborn on anythings you might disagree on if I don't see or understand the reasons given to them.
So in summary; DO NOT PLAY. DO NOT PAY. LET IT DIE NOW, NOT WHEN IT'S IN AN EVEN WORSE STATE.
I totally agree as I have been a player of this game since its early stages back when lvl 35 was max and now its 70. It gets more annoying as u go higher lvl I cant even lvl up with quests anymore. You just gotta farm and farm and farm and die. The only thing that basically keeps me in game is the mounts itself cuz im more of a pve/familiar tamer person. I also play on Akaldus which is decent.
For players id say the thing is ..ya either have old players who stayed or those who lost their accounts. Few new players may have joined but probably didnt stick for too long. And most old players simply make more new characters to lvl up so basically 70-80% of so called players/characters are actually one same person with multiple characters.
On drama I as well agree as I have been apart of one myself and ppl can get rlly toxic but is also annoying how ppl can be both in pvp, taming even if in party with all randoms that simply wanna do a dungeon to lvl up or get some items for crafting.
Personally, Imma stay in game but not as much as I used to. It used to be great hut it has unfortunatelly kinda reached his peek and unless they do something WOW it will either stay as it is or go dead.
I actually have quite a lot of fun right now. I guess it depends if you are doing PvP or not - I am not thus I really don't care about class balancing and stuff. I really enjoy the ride so far. Anyways thanks for taking the time to write the review :)
the moment i saw what the people on my discord server were going through i honestly didnt bother to go through with the migration i was like fuck it no way am gonna go tru all of that especially when i did quit already
i definitely agree,, 2 years ago i was in love with this game but i stopped playing for some time, and next thing i know there has been migration from nexon to valofe.. ever since i literally could not download the game.. there has been an error popping up every time. im glad im not missing out anymore, yet i still sometimes wish the migration never happened.

I used to play on a private server before official release and this video gave me so much nostalgia about times we were raiding with guild for those pegasuses to tame... And also content of desert location, where were secret bosses with chance of godly loot, which my friend and I farmed constantly... Ah, good times indeed.

I loved Riders of Icarus. It was an awesome time and it made me pretty nostalgic to see it here haha
Unfortunatly the game has nearly no population left and runs pretty poorly at times.
Optimisation was a big problem at release. Also game was full of bugs and glitches.
Maybe one day we will get a rerelease without problems and better grafics.
Also some classes are incredible unbalanced.
The balance is going a little better. Back in the days in pvp, magic classes didnt stand a chance against melee. which was even worse. Now that they have the magician, people can actually counter melee classes. Which is a plus. It's more of a class counter basis then anything. Optimization is still terribe. There are still some bugs and glitches, most of the bugs are rooted out but still has glitches in it
Also the player base is starting to pick up a bit. Me and a group of discord friends have been helping new players and engaging in all d ungeons in the game and slowly reviving the game. Going along pretty smoothly

I remember playing this legendary mounts tame rates were stupidly low and you would spend a good 20 mins weakening it just for some one els to tame it

The pay2win with the cash shop from what I remember when I played it during release wasn't actually bad, the cash shop currency (the blue currency version) can be earned from doing specific daily quests that appear in the game, I remember that theres 2 I think in that early zone with the werewolves and cows that you was killing, and obviously many more down the road in the game.

The higher level you get, the more fun and challenging the game becomes. It actually has very good daily rewards. Free gifts from Elloras Storage every month (good selling gear, gold, legendary marks). And I haven't spent any money on it at all and am almost max level. If you find a good playing companion you can just work together as a team and do dungeons and quests supporting each other. What does suck is that on some servers the game is very deserted and the only option is doing everything solo.

I remember playing this game in the beta. It was really beautiful. I just can't pin down exactly why I never committed to it. It was somewhat enjoyable, but nothing hooked me. I'm a collector so I liked that part a lot and the game is pretty, but no substance. All the bugs here were still in the beta when I played it.

I like how that CryEngine works very well in terms of optimization in this game. I had a good FPS rate with an AMD CPU from 10 years ago, even at populous towns.
Some trivia from an English teacher (me): Lolis are named after Lolita, a novel by Vladimir Nabokov. Lolita is one of the most beautifully-written novels of all time in my humble opinion, but, in keeping with Nabokov's cynical Russian ideologies, it is also one of the most fucked up pieces of cannonical literature out there.

Loli is actually a japanese word. “Lolicon” is the japanese word for pedophile, so when we refer to asian little girl game characters, we call them loli’s. Of course, the Japanese word originated from the lolita novel.

That Loli class must have a different start. When I first started as an Assassin I was in jail and Crow rescued me because the Princess was captured or something. The game has been through a lot of changes because I don't remember the optimization being that bad and I played it on a low-end laptop. The UI has changed as well. Surprisingly, the game isn't THAT pay-to-win. You earn the Elluns through achievements, daily achievements, some quests, and daily rewards. Some things are restricted to the yellow currency (can't remember), though. Despite it's flaws, I do like to revisit it from time to time to relive some nice memories. Great video, Peon. :)

I tried it out recently and had no performance issues at all. Most con for me was the really low playerbase, but the players I did meet were mostly friendly and helpful. Most pro for me was the mount/pet system as you can almost tame any creature to be yours without having to spend tons of ingame or real cash like in some other games.
Go for private server. Legends says that is way more populated and lvl cap is the same like in Korea (idk, maybe on official servers you have lvl cap the same by now)

Downloading after this review, I'm going to give it a go. the game looks gorgeous and love the idea of taming pets ect.....Lets see.

I've played this game a few years ago, and it was a really nice experience, i liked basically everything in this game, but at lvl20 the progressing went really slow, and had to do repeatrable quests over and over for only one level. At least the terrain was gorgeus there, but that doesn't keep me entertained.
I've watched a couple dozen of your videos and while I'm not ready to subscribe right now I will at least leave a comment because I think that makes UA-cam more likely to recommend it or something like that.

This was the last MMO that I played that I enjoyed. I think the thing I enjoyed the most was capturing mounts. I remember I tried various times to capture what I think was a Griffon outside the capital.

i remember playing the beta of this game , after the beta when the level cap was 45 the game was turning into trash , with pay to win pet seals

riders of icarus was my first mmo lol. Its such a nice game, there are still popular servers. Just a tip tho, download it from steam.
Haven't seen the vid yet and I know all the negative comments are valid, I remember playing for about 8 months and my god this game had potential, mounts GALORE and just hunting for them in certain places at certain times using certain recipes etc was so innovative imo but yeah it's the worse repetitive grind fest ever
I don’t even know why im still watching this because i truly love this game. I now play on the private server EU and there are a lot of other players. Leveling up is a bit lonely but It’s not so bad as people say it is.

i havent play in a while but if i remember i am level 30 something or 40 and for some reason the good looking armor can only be obtain on higher dungeons which feels like the expansion packs of wow where instead of updating the entire world they just put a new map with new textures and good looking armor while the started zone is stuck with low poly ugly armor
another thing is taming the epic rare mounts and filling the pokedex(lets face it the list library is a pokedex) the super epic/legendary mounts are obviously used to make the player frustrated so much so that they will go to the in-game store to buy potions that maximize taming(and lets not forget that if the epic/legendary mount is ready to be tame it can be steal by another player so you have to wait for the mount to respawn which can take hours or days) also if you wasted the key, which helps you tame certain mounts and dont want to craft it again, you can but some potions and/or materials to quickly crafted or just buy in-game coins to go to the auction house and but what you need
but despite this i love the challenge this game posses it feels like i am playing in hard mode, not many people like that, but even if i dont tame an legendary/epic mount you bet that when i tame a cool looking mount that i have spend hours of strategy and coordination it feels good when you finally tame it
i see that people are leaving and possible the game will either shut down or improve and i think this has to do with the change/transfer of accounts because the studio behind riders of icarus didnt like steam so they wanted to move the launcher and close their steam severs which will delete any character inside their steam server account?????? i dont know but i do know that last year many people were piss about that

Riders of Icarus is, has been, and always will be my favorite MMO I think. Been with it through open beta until now and I’ve loved the journey. Can’t say that I’ve honestly disliked any of it that I’ve played.
I loved this gamr when it first came out for the first few months.
I remeber playing this game when it first came out in europe, the lvl cap back then it was 20 and it was quite populated, so much so that when they expanded to the next zone there were so many players that the game was working at 10fps constantly, and as i said back then it was fun until ppl started to quit and well i've checked the game more or less whenever i felt like trying it but the fact that the capital which was the most populated has now 3 spammers and 1 afk it just doesn't make you feel like playing anymore, you need ppl to do dungeons and raids, and sure you can reach max lvl after an awful grining spree but when you reach the max lvl there will probably be a lot of competitive guilds cuz all the casual ones left when i was playing XD so yea, haven't tried playing it again, my character is still at lvl 45 or so... it's sad cuz i rlly had fun with ppl there but can't do anything about it now...
Didn't you notice the Wizard class? That class was probably more mage-ish than the Magician, if that's what you're after.
This game isn’t terrible for a port to America and the trickster and magician classes are the most OP. Sad you didn’t find other players cause when I played I had a couple different squads I ran with just 4 months ago

In my opinion the game is actually good so far, been playing for a few days now, leveled 28 and the story is actually really good. I'm here for the visuals as well... Visuals of the familiars anyway, the backgrounds look amazing as well, but sometimes they fade out and show the square sandbox outline, kind of ruins the immersion. But you got to be sure you don't use your elluns on stupid crap (made that mistake once) but there's been no problems that I've come across. No crashes or full servers, had a few quests bug out, but nothing that wasn't fixable by forfeiting the quest and starting again or just logging out then logging back in. It has a charm to it that just draws me in. I also really just got on it for the dragons and beautiful graphics and it did not disappoint me there. So far, good game 👍
