    For the people yelling at me about the story, here's a few things to consider - typically story driven cut scene heavy MMOs are not my thing, I'd rather play a single player game for this, For me the real story in MMOs comes from the interactions between players hence why I'm more into sandbox MMOs than themepark MMOs, additionally if I'm making a SWTOR 2020 video why would I play the content from 2011 and not the newer stuff? You've also gotta consider how the hell I would edit down a video of reacting to the levelling from 1-75 and give a full context of the story in my first impressions format without the video being 3-4 hours long, MMOs like this that are super cut scene heavy are really hard to cover with my format so really I just tried to focus on gameplay and features, I hope that makes sense.

      Nobody is yelling at you, but to present/test this game with a payed subscription and lvl 70 endgame character is really not that good of a choice for SWTOR, since the normal player will likely be a f2p goon restricted by a huge paywall and braindead-super-easy-combat until lvl 65 or so.

      For a first time play I don’t think that boosting a character and skipping your characters class story was the right thing to do. The leveling is what the game is mainly known for. The argument based on “why would I play the old stuff” isn’t necessarily valid. The new content is tied to the story content which requires you to level to understand what’s going on. Another thing, the operations are 99% of the time grouped up manually in the fleet (hub) chat no one uses the group finder except for flashpoints (dungeons) for a impressions video you did not have to go 1-75 you could of tried out a class and queued for the first dungeon which is available after the beginner planet. I don’t think a impression video specifically has to go over the entire games content. I have played swtor since 2014 and have done a majority of the raids and the end game content isn’t really anything to brag about it’s really just doing dailies/weeklys and if you want to you can do the raids for the experience. The games “transmog” system is one of the best in any MMO. You have the ability to put on any set of armor you come upon in the customization tab and you don’t need to go to some stupid transmog vendor to do so. You also have the ability to unlock cartel outfits and weapons for all characters through spending cartel coins. So you can use the same outfits on all characters. Player housing is also a major thing I can’t tell you how many hours I put into my stronghold. The game is seriously a joy to play. But it is a story game first which I why I understand you wanting to level boost but I still would not recommended that decision to newbies.

      Jefferson no way you typed all of this lol. He said it himself that a new player should play the base game. It makes perfect sense that he wouldn’t do a “first impressions 2020” video and play content from 2011 lol

      Cenciqt Cenciqt The game has not had a real substantial update since 2016 all the new content is just addons to the story. The new dungeons and raids aren’t groundbreaking new content has the same formula since their beginnings in the game. A 2020 first impression would be the same as a 2016 first impression. I’m saying that the way he showed off the game does not look pleasant for someone who has never seen the game before.

    Honestly never played one of these games before. I was desperately bored, so two days ago I decided to use my laptop for things other than writing.... obviously I mean using it for gaming. And I got a steam account, and was browsing. Until I found this game, saw the golden word “free” and downloaded.
    To be honest, probably the best experience I have had playing a Star Wars game. I never liked these types of games, and for the past two days I have been enjoying what this game has to offer. Not to mention it’s set in my favorite era, Age of Republic. The cinematic scenes are awesome, and I just love the Republic setting. It’s a game worth playing!
    edit: Well... another good thing about this game for a new player is how welcoming the community is.. I just had a player gift me 250,000 credits and hopes I continue to play and enjoy the game. Everyone in the general chat are extremely helpful and will help you with quests, even if they are a higher level.
    Edit: I have yet to finish a story arc. But I have come across multiple revelations that’s have changed my experience for the better! I now have discovered the graphics setting, and as someone knew to PC gaming. I don’t know much about how computers work. But whatever is in charge of graphics, my expensive laptop was a fat man after a short jog when I turned the graphics on to ultra. So now I’m at a medium graphics level which has elevated the beauty of the game to a great degree.
    Another great thing I found was the legacy section. It’s cool to have overarching stories! What I dislike is that characters in my other stories now share the name. The only reason I find this cool though is that I’m trying to developer a deeper story for each character I make. So I decided to make a brother and sister. One is a Jedi and the other a Sith. And I heard you could create family trees, so I hope the legacy is what that is. Other than those two things, the game has only continued to blow my socks off.

      +Excubi. Tip, save your cash for a huge mount via the player store. As long as you dont want a Rankor. You can get similar large mounts for much cheaper prices. You just need to find out their names and search for them. Which you do via Star Wars wiki.

      You should try Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy if you like Star Wars. The world record dudes would finish both in 1 hour but if it's your first ever playthrough it should take you a couple of days at least. Maybe even some guides if you get stuck with no clue of how to progress. Jedi fallen order was ok too.

    Mostly agree with this assessment, just want to reiterate a couple things as others have:
    -No one queues operations; they are raid content, have a higher difficulty curve and higher time commitment and as such it's not well suited for PUG play, so the culture has evolved to people setting runs up the old fashioned way by literally calling it out in chat in the main social hub (republic/imperial fleet)
    -Flashpoints were revamped at some point to allow for any combination of classes; to compensate they added things like healing stations especially in the boss areas. You just have to be aware of where they are and how many uses they have left. I also recommend knowing how your abilities work as all classes have abilities to make them more survivable and you will want to actually know how to use those in group content, JUST SAYIN. This is a lesson that SWTOR teaches early on (and something you will miss learning if you level boost without having played through early game): solo story content is considerably easier than group content, you can't approach them the same way
    -Heals in pvp: bruh. They exist, but why would the healer bother wasting cooldowns on the dps jedi that keeps trying to tank the whole team. >.> (that's just me being a salty healer, not so much a criticism of the video, which was largely solid and accurate, good job overall.)

      Some of my favorite encounters with meeting new people was PUGing raids. Sure, the odds of failure were high in PUGs but through getting to know people and doing well, you could get pulled into doing a traditional and organized run. I lent my Assassin Tank to some Guilds for Sunday Raid runs HM and Nightmare, we met purely through PUGing and they liked how I played my tank.
      So you can't honestly tell me PUGing is all nothing but bad. That's just opinionated and bias vitriol.

    I agree with pretty much everything except for the operations part. As others have said nobody queues solo for operations and groups are usually put together either in guilds or in general chat on the fleet. There is also a good reason for this and i have not seen it mentioned in other comments. You can only queue for story mode operations and for those you do not need a standard 2 tanks 2 healers and 4 dps group. The second tank is always replaced with another dps with taunt (since they can queue as tank as well) because there are too few encounters where a second tank is needed and having 5 dps makes the operations faster.
    Also flashpoints only require the trinity on higher difficulties. Although some of the newer ones are a bit of a spike in difficulty even on story mode when compared with the old ones so i can see how a group of newer players may have a hard time.

    So as has been said in the comments operations (raids) are not done by the group finder. You'll want to go to the fleet and you'll see in chat many groups forming ops, or there are special chat channels to form ops, the main one on starforge can be joined by typing /cjoin allies. Whenever you get a quest to do a flashpoint (dungeon) I highly recommend getting the veteran version of the quest so you can do it with a party as its much more fun than solo. Yes you can get matched with 4 dps or any combination of roles but the flashpoints have kolto stations around the boss fights that allow you to emergency heal during battle and those are what will get you through to the end. There is a full transmog system. Lastly you can level up and gear however you like in this game, the core ways are through the main story quest (you can skip sidequests), spamming flashpoints, or warzones (battlegrounds).

    [LONG]
    I just wanted to clarify a few things. At the beginning, you said "you're limited as a free player" in terms of classes and races. I'd just like to point out that you're not limited to any of the classes as a f2p player. Any f2p player can finish all the classes on both Republic and Sith sides. Races though, yeah you're definitely limited, but even as a subscriber (p2p player) you have to pay to unlock certain races sooo...
    Also, if you pay to be a subscriber for one month (so one $15 subscription at any point), you can unlock all the DLC content (up to the point of your subscription) forever, so that's pretty nice if you reach the end of the game as a f2p player. At that point you're what is known as a "preferred" player, and it's like a middle ground between f2p and a subscriber, where you can still get some of the benefits of being a sub, but as a f2p player. Feel free to ask me what you can do as a preferred player, because that's what I am :)
    F2p restrictions are mostly on:
    - certain gear unlocks (mostly near endgame)
    - subscribers get extra xp throughout the story
    - subscribers can have as many characters as they want whereas I think f2p players get 2 (not entirely sure on this number. Might be like 4 or something).
    - crafting is limited to 2 skills instead of 3
    - cap on how much money you can have (1 million credits)
    - can't participate in the operations (raids)
    There are probably a few more, but I can't remember anymore.

      F2P players have a max of 4 character slots (basically enough to fill a single class each for either Republic or Empire side) and F2P players also have two first expansions for free while their max level is 60 (subscribers and preferred players subbed after Onslaught expansion launch have it 75).

      Also! Most locked races (except Nautolan? I can't remember) can be bought for in game currency. You can also add a security key to your account and you'll get 100 cartel coins each month which is premium currency. It's not much but races are only 600, so if you sub and use the key you can buy whatever race you're wanting to play as.

    • @Mendradex
      @Mendradex 4 роки тому +1

      @@CaseyHarMegiddo Actually, all races are unlockable through cartel coins, just that Nautolans, Togruta and Cathars are all Cartel Market exclusive.
      Though if you buy a one month subscription, you unlock the non-Market races that can be created appropriately for the classes until the sub runs out (you get to keep the characters). Once you raise that character to level 50, you unlock that race forever and can create them for any class going forth.
      I do apologize if this is the stuff you've known already, but in case a new player reads this, it's best to keep the others informed.

    I came back around the start of quarantine, and I gotta say it's been a blast. I've grinded out Bounty Hunter and Jedi Sage(?), participated in a bunch of things like World Bosses & the weekly event rotations like racing & bounty hunting, and found myself actually getting so into it that I'm in a guild (which is something I've never done before in any MMO).
    I'm currently waiting to stockpile up on credits to really get my $'s worth on the subscription unlocks, which I plan to do probably around the end of the year when I get some serious free time to sink into the game.
    Overall, I'd say as a solo player, if you even passively enjoy Star Wars then you should give this game a chance. The story is great & adapts based on your choices, and you don't need to know *anything* about the prior 2 games that came out on the original Xbox to understand what's going on. The Jedi really make you feel like a Jedi, the Sith are extremely fun to play as, and if you're not into either of those things then the gunslinging classes are also just as good (if not better). Can't recommend this game enough.
    Oh! And if you DO plan on playing the game for extended periods of time, be sure to sign up for the 2-step authenticator app on mobile. Each month the game gives you 100 Cartel Coins (the game's purchaseable currency) for free, and there's a handful of story-related achievements that give you some as well. Definitely helps in the long run, ESPECIALLY if you're like me and forget about the game, then come back years later to find yourself thousands of CC rich :D

    Just a couple notes on the flashpoints and operations;
    There was a change to how flashpoints work back in 5.0(?) to where the story modes no longer require a trinity group, to help speed up queue times for those that just wanted to get through them, it can be a bit of a mish to run them with 4 dps, but I managed to have one run where the four of us were snipers and it's one of the funniest experiences I've had in the game. Usually however I've found you tend to get 3 dps and 1 either tank or heals. Veteran flashpoints are the ones that require trinity groups and are a bit harder than story mode.
    On the operation queue thing I don't know of anyone that's ever used it, and most of my experience with running operations has been that groups broadcast roles needed, operation, and difficulty in the general chat on the faction fleet. (LF 1T 1H 2DPS 4 TBC SM for example) I'm pretty sure groups will only use the queue to fill players that drop during a run.
    Great video tho! Although as a sniper/commando main my feelings are hurt ahaha

    Just clearing some things up:
    Sub doesn't restrict class. Just wanted to point that out.
    Casino tokens are for the Summer seasonal event. Has nothing to do with the shop, in case anyone was worried.
    Yes, combat and class design are awesome!
    To join operations, you have to join a group in the fleet. They are often being formed. For some reason people do that and don't queue randomly for an operation the way people do LFR in WoW. I just realized you queued in God from the machine week and that is a big no-no to go blind on. This isn't WoW LFR. You would never complete it even if the queue popped. It's a design issue, not a population issue. You can't clear that OP with newbies. If you were on Karagga's palace week, or Eternal vault week, you might've been able to join a group by queuing randomly. The thing is operation difficulty varies wildly. So, pre-made is the sure way to get them done.
    The player base was fine before Steam. It got boosted since Ossus and Onslaught. Steam has just come to add even more players. The game has made 1Billion without Steam. It is not dependent on Steam at all. I guess you made this conclusion cause of the odd way Operation queues were adopted by players in this game and the Starfighter that no one enjoys except purists.
    I want to make it clear. All Steam players could leave now and the game would still be fine. Of course though, it doesn't hurt.
    Flashpoints do obey trinity rules in harder modes. It's only the story mode that doesn't.
    The F2P restrictions are fine. The F2P is the option, not the sub. You can do everything without a sub, if you become prefered (aka sub for a month to unlock the content and restrictions). The only thing you will be limited in is Operations and number of warzones you can play at max level.
    Dead game since 2011 and here we are in 2020 and he tells us it's a dead game. Deary me...

    When this game was brand new and sub based the pvp was amazing before they overhauled the ui and made the game havd horrible fps drops due to the 32bit system it runs on. The classes in this game were so much fun and the other factions iteration of it made all classes so unique and fun! If they remade the game 64bit or swtor 2 I'd be all over that for sure!! Pvp was amazing in this game but the fps drops make it pretty unplayable

      Ya this really makes me sad because I've played wow for 15 years but still enjoyed swtor alot more because of the classes and its STAR WARS FFS!! The lore is next level, I remember being blown away coming to Coruscant for the first time when the game was new. Big majority of my pvp focused guild on the Fatman server quit because they promised ranked pvp for months when we were all at 100 rank pvp already, initially when the game was sub based... Took them forever to implement this and by the time they did they broke the game for pvp with the frame drops due to CPU and the pvp wasn't even the same again regardless. I remember the game running better on my pc that has 1/8 of the specs mine does now because of the platform it's built on.

    Game died out a bit due to lack of end-game, and then it was hard to get groups since not all to many stuck around, then it went FTP and got some more, so if it got even more now it might be worth going back, Class stories are the best in the game imo, and the non-lightsabre classes are really fun tbh.
    also i belive one of the problems with operations for you is that class is pure dps, always takes forever in queues

  • @bodybrest2644
    @bodybrest2644 4 роки тому

    For flashpoints (dungeons), unless you do them in Master difficulty, you don't need the trinity (tank, heal, dps) in your group because the mobs and bosses do not hit hard, and there are healing boxes peppered around, with about 30s respawn.
    Random operations aren't tagged by individual players, usually it's people forming groups from the hub (fleet), and then tagging as a premade. It's basically impossible to get an operation just by queuing solo.

  • @madmesmith5187
    @madmesmith5187 4 роки тому

    I dont use group finder for operations, just goto the rep or imp space station and watch in chat for a raid forming and send them a tell and ask them if you can join(pls tell them your a new player so they can tell you how the zone works, you could kill the hole raid party if you dont watch your step in some zones), word of warning its not for the light of heart, a quick operation round can take 45 mins to hour to complete, and there is so much to learn in them, but the loot is good.

    I am a long time player of this game. I played this game from BETA until about 2015 pretty much exclusively. Ran guilds, Ops teams, and all the high end content. I think you did a reasonable job showing the opinion of a new player, who's not usually into this type of game, and without any hand holding from a veteran player.
    I would like to add some context for those that might be interested in this game from the perspective of a veteran of the game.
    While PURE F2P approach to this game is still not recommended, Once you sub a couple months or pick up some cartel coins, you can permanently purchase many of those things that make the F2P experience bad. All unlocks can be made account wide, and if your characters already have some of those things unlocked but still have the modules, they can sell them on the GTN (Galactic Trade Network) for CREDITS, and flat just trade them to people. Of course the F2P players have to have trading unlocked...lol.
    End game content is worth doing, but no serious OPS players use the que, most schedule it out. Problem with the que is many of the people that sign up have no clue what is going on, and these Operations have little to no help to clueless players. There are puzzles that will straight wipe an operation if no one knows how the puzzles work. And no one wants to spend 2-4 hours on an OPS, wiping on the puzzle content, it just doesn't work.
    Galactic Starfighter. I was actually surprised you did this, and it was great. You captured the general experience of almost all players that try that mode for the first time. Which unfortunately, is why no one plays the damn thing. Which is truly a shame. I was introduced into it by a couple people that understood how the mode is meant to be played, and once you have the basics down, its one of the deepest star fighter pvp combat games that I have ever played, and I truly mean that. GSF could truly have been great with more content, but the barrier of entry scared off most players from the mode.
    Is this game perfect, not by a long shot. But it has some of the most compelling traditional rpg elements of almost any other MMO out there, I do think they are the best. The character classes are generally balanced, and each individual run has much of its own rewards worth partaking in. The community is very welcoming, its not difficult to find a guild or two of people that will go out of their way to help you have a great experience, and alts feel way more worth it in a game like this rather than WoW.
    I agree with your assessment, that this game is meant for those that love traditional, theme park style MMO's, and SWTOR is truly great at this formula, and just fantastic Star Wars content in general.

    • @Supercomet13A
      @Supercomet13A 4 роки тому

      The two major criticisms I have for GSF is how grind heavy it is just to be viable, and how there is not other way to grind outside of just doing the pvp aspect. I think the solo space missions should give ship and fleet requisition as a way to grind up, and make it easier to get into it, maybe tie the reputation of that to getting better starting points on new characters

    Played for quite a while after launch. May have to see if I can get back onto my old characters, now. This is one of the few games where I've ever gotten into the PvP side. Especially the starfighters. You can almost just do the starfighter PvP, as the reward and unlock system is almost entirely self-contained. At the time I stopped, there were like 2 or 3 fighters you could cash buy, but they weren't any better than the ones you unlocked. They just looked a little different.
    I tried F2P for a bit. BIG difference in QoL, but they didn't take away any of my houses (every character got 2 or 3 mostly free when that launched).
    Being a ranged tank as a Trooper is pretty awesome. Coming from tanking in EQ and WoW, being able to shoot and toss bombs for agro is so nice.

The operation in queue when you were logged in is considered one of the harder of two operations for PUGs so no one is really willing to just group finder that.

    Nobody queues for operations, groups are advertized in chat on the fleet. So you either join a group on the fleet or start your own group, announce it in chat and it usually fills up quite fast. Then when your group is formed you queue as a group and get an instant operation.

I like that you can also wear whatever gear you like because of how the equipment modification system works. Despite all the criticism it's gotten over the years, I've always had a soft spot for this game and I hope it never goes away. I think there's fun to be found in it for all kinds of players.
