Same on my c180, can't wait for the video, don't forget to publish the number of the part.
My sunroof plastic runners broke like this as well. I just loosened the mounting screws that holds the glass in place, and lowered it a hair, and now it closes and seals properly. The problem with paying to get it fixed (at $2,500) is it will just break again down the line. Unless they changed the plastic clips to metal - but dought they have, so it stands to reason it would break again.
Same exact problem happened to my c350. Waiting for the video😅
How do you manual open the roof? I need to manually close mine
I need your help man what was the name of the broken piece that your talk about i have the same problem
How to reseat sunroof for w205 and w176 plzz
Yep, me too. Last week, closing the moonroof, and a loud "pop", and broken plastic guides as well. Hopefully a fix video is out there somewhere.
Its doubtful any one will post a video as its a complicated job to remove and replace the tracks , one wrong move and it just adds to the bill . Once the parts are replaced you have to get the sunroof recalibrated by diagnostics , we had to buy a special diagnostic device $1400 ! so we now do our own recalibrations with out going to dealers .
mine lifts but not opens any fix without dropping headliner? thinking about taking to a service shop
@@bobbybines7881 any luck?
Off topic, but you got some beautiful views from your house. I love Utah.
Thanks!! Definitely some nice views around here.
how do I check what the problem is without dropping headliner? cannot open sunroof fully it automatically closes.
whats the part number? mine broke also
I have a roof but not sure what kind it does not slide back it just open a little
Whether you have one drive or two drives, there is a small opening that allows a T25 torx to manually operate the mechanism. The smaller motor is for the shade, the bigger motor for the glass.
The only access through the hood trim area is for the glass and its only on some models , you would need to lower the whole front of the roof trim to get to both motors the glass motor is on the right and the blind one on the left .
I’m having the same problem
Do you have a follow up video on the repair?
Not yet. I do have an update video I'll be doing soon, which will include information I've learned about the repair. Hopefully in the next couple days.
I had the same problem with my GLA 45 AMG days after the warranty expired... Guys, I had several issues with this Mercedes (my 2nd MB). Guess what? It’s the last time I buy an MB. Never, never more...
The dealer wants to charge me $3,000. After you buy an MB and have the warranty expired, you become a hostage.
I'm done with MB. DON'T BUY A MB.
I will say something for you guys: I have a friend who worked in an MB dealer for year's.... He told me that dealers get more profit with service than sales.
$3000 is a pretty common number for this repair. I'm curious if someone who has done their research and knows what's involved would be able to talk a dealership down at all.
I can almost guarantee that if your friend worked at any other brands dealership, he'd be able to tell you the exact same thing. Most dealerships make their money in the service department, not so much sales. And even with sales, it's going to be in financing.
@@joshua.sutherland Last month I had a yellow light indicating engine issues. Ok, I scanned the car. The speed sensor of the right wheel was not working.
Dealer charges $697 (haha, not to say 699, not to say 700).
I bought this part on Amazon, and I paid $25. And I changed the component in 2 hours.
$700 for 2 hours? We know the mechanic doesn't get paid $350/hour. So, it's ridiculous... The same service in GM dealer is half price.
The beautiful girl who attended me said, take a delicious coffee. Probably a significant part of the price is to pay the girl and the coffee.😂 I'm out...
I hate to tell you this Rick, but that’s how all these expensive car companies operate. Once the warranty expires, all the bells and whistles can break and cost you a ton of money.
@@KC_Smooth it's not even unique to a brand like Mercedes though, at least when it comes to the sunroof. One of my friends recently bought a truck, and the dealer straight up told them never to open the sunroof. To me, that's unacceptable. But then, my roof is still stuck closer so.. 😂
@@KC_Smooth learning that the hard way on my Alfa Romeo. 🤦🏽♀️
This happened to my coupe and apparently it happens bc they’re not made to be open while driving around bc it puts weight on the back end of the rails, then ad a bump while driving and you’re just asking for it to snap/ break. So you’re only meant to have the back end cracked at most while driving so weight distribution is even. Poor engineering and plastic parts also don’t help. No more sunroof in summer = summertime sadness 🙃
My 2015 C300 has the exact problem.
My panoramic panel flew off while driving down the highway. The dealership said “no problem, it’s covered at no charge there is a recall” After several calls, they are now telling me the rails are damaged and I have to pay. I had no problems opening and closing the sunroof prior to this happening. Could this have caused damage to the rails? It’s a 2017 c300.
Our 2017 just started the same problem! Mercedes need to do something about this! They just quoted us $4024 to repair!
Nice vid, what camera are you using
I was using a Canon 80D at the time I filmed this.
Where do you buy your parts?
It depends on what I'm looking for. The first three places I usually look now are MB, eBay, and FCP Euro. FCP Euro offers a lifetime replacement on EVERYTHING they sell. Some MB dealers have better discounts than others. So worth shopping around.
عندي مشكل انها لاتفتح 220c
Just happened to me yesterday. Same thing -> Roof was stuck and made weird sounds when opening and closing. Finally I applied some pressure on the glass and opened it and the plastic pieces show up. I know you mentioned that you ordered for the part. Do you have the link for the broken plastic part?
I have the same CAR with the exact trim as well. Its weird that our both cars which are probably manufactured in the same year have the exact issue 1 month apart.
Thank you
The parts that I ordered actually turned out to be the incorrect parts. The correct ones are hopefully showing up today, at which point I'll begin attempting the repair. The "correct" parts I picked up from eBay.

Joshua Sutherland Awesome! I will be waiting for you to fix and confirm that it works. Thanks man 👍
@@joshua.sutherland was this a confirmed fix? I have this issue on my 2015 s550.
@@cortedior even if I had been successful, I can't recommend this "fix". In order to attempt this, properly, you'd have to remove the rails from the roof, which involves taking apart half the inside of the car. If you don't know why it broke, there could be damage elsewhere that'll cause a break again.
@@joshua.sutherland no sir. I purchased the vehicle with this as a pre-existing issue. No information on it, however the issue you had is the most similar to what I’m experiencing right now. & it sucks.
Good luck 😰 this is exactly why I’ve never opened my pano roof on my C400 lol too scared of it breaking. Everyone I’ve seen has gotten it fixed for $3000+, so if you can somehow DIY, please post the vid and it would help a lot of people!
Will do! Guess I better do some more research before that part comes in. Looking at everything, it seems like it just needs the new guide. Hopefully I'm not missing anything.
I feel the same as you Jahsua I just spent over 4,000.00 last month to fix my sunroof never buy another Mercedes I am going back in the Lexus family totally less problems.
Just happened to out 2017 C300 coupe. Service advisor just called. Repairs are $4024.00! The car only has 21k miles!
"We're going to do it ourselves, of course!"
XD #famousLastWords
My sunroof doesn’t open at all only one side tries to get up but it doesn’t open at all
I'm having the same issue. Did you find out a cause and or solution?
I have same issue
What’s the solution to this
Same issue here.2016 c300
@@bravo1872 I fix
What year is your car?
It's a 2015.
I have repaired dozens of these so far for the last 4 years or more , its a bad design as when you go over speed bumps or bad road surface with the roof right back it vibrates the glass and causes those triangular bits to break . The original C Class coupe had the rear supports that moved rewards with the glass so it was always supported , this new version leaves the glass hanging over the rear arms with no support as the rear arm no longer moves with the glass .
Hi Howard, my one has just gone faulty as it's not closing from the passenger rear sunroof and sticking out from the front.. mercedes is saying that both rails need to be changed. Does the damage over the bumps happen even when the sunroof is fully closed?
@@parmindersingh2577 yes it happens even with it closed. … at least happened to me.
This is true never drive with open sunroof in bad roads .
@@parmindersingh2577 Yes the little triangular guides that keep the front of the glass in the tracks are under constant strain when its closed , as the glass moves forward those front guide are pulled down a curved part of the track into the closed position those triangular parts are what holds it down so even then bumps and vibrations will break them .
How to Manually open/close the sunroof
Please show how to fix it
It's going to take me a few weeks to try and figure out a fix. Keep watching for updates.
Mercedes changed that light for me in 4 mins
Get used to it. Mercs are the workshops best friend.😄
This just now happened to my e350 :(
I feel your pain. Same problem?
Joshua Sutherland yes man its even worse bc only half of the roof top is tilted up and the other side is completely closed... taking it to a sunroof specialist in the next few days so they can just get it closed 🙏 i tried everything i could myself from youtube
I just received a recall from the dealership
For this issue? I do believe I've seen a recall for one of the previous generations, but I haven't seen one for the W205
This went way past sunroof.. I feel disappointed. Moving on…
drop headliner . replace bushings or gear and your done . easy job
Pretty close 😂 dropping the headliner is pretty involved. Unfortunately, you have to replace the entire rail. Try as I might, I've found no other way.
Joshua Sutherland you don’t have to drop the entire thing, just the front half , to get to the motor it self
@@RICH123nick is this true? im having the same issue
Daddy yes
Is there anyway to contact you Nick? I’m working on this right now
I have the same car i had the same issue frame had to be replaced 4000 repair
Yikes. By frame so you mean the rail and everything, or what?
It happened to my cla
Sorry to hear that.
There’s a recall for 2014-2020 CLAs for the panoramic roof
@@tonykawaii6400 It won’t help. All this was the poor design. Had my Merc A-class with the same problem, sorted out today for R3500 SA rands and Merc Dealership was charging me R20 000 SA rands. I’m the vehicle motor assessor so I know better.
this literally just happened to mine. exact same spot :/
mine isnt even opening anymore :/
You send to get repaired
Swallowed a fly lol
What are the little flats on the side of the sunroof for?
What exactly are you referring to?
@@joshua.sutherland it’s two little flaps on both sides of the sunroof. If you pause it exactly at 1:17 on your video it’s right on the left of the screen.
Roof rack mount points. There will be two more over the rear passenger doors. Pop them off, and you'd have the mount points underneath.
