- I've always enjoyed float fishing. So when conditions allow, I like to dead bait for river pike using a float. The rig I like to use is a fixed float paternoster.

One of the finest fishing channels on here, simply brilliant.
Excellent video. Includes little but important details like how to find the depth with the rig.
Thank you , after 35 years this kind of video turns me back to fishing , as fishes in store are not the same like 30-50 years ago
( antibiotics , any other chemicals , etc ).
Great video!I`ve been using this rig for a long time when i go float fishing and in my opinion it gives the best results even with live bait!
Very nice video . A pike float always get the juices flowing.
Good info i use 50lb braid.Braid has a low diameter 50lb is about the same diameter as 12lb mono if you get in a snag you can bend the hooks out its saved me alot of tackle over the years.
sme sme you should try fox soft steel fishing line its is the best line I've ever used cuts through lilys if pike takes you in their its awesome.
Lovely video. I haven't been Piking for a long time. Seeing this makes me determined to get out this summer.
Roll on the summer !

Nice one mate ! thanks for sharing ! I'm giving this a go tomorrow :)
Best of luck.
I have been using this all winter and have caught 15 pike so far (although as usual I have lost a handful of those because of barbless hooks) I will agree that the float rig performs poorly in heavy flow, so I'll have a look at your deadbait ledger rigs
hi. thanks for the great video. I am new to this sort of fishing and would just like to know....does the weight of the the terminal gear need to match the float? Or is the float just used as a bite indicator whilst set at exact depth of the water? many thanks
The weight is just sufficient to hold everything stationary in the flow. The float is the bite indicator, but it must also hold the rig up straight. Although a float is used, this is not "float fishing" in the usual sense. All Pike rigs are about offering minimal resistance to the taking fish. Hope this helps, best of luck.
Good vid ,but it should have a uptrace on ,in case there is a bite off
@@swiggy03 it has a trace....
Thank you just subscribed to your channel
Thank you for subscribing and thanks for all your comments, best of luck.
Does this work for zander or is there something else more effective for zander?
There are no Zander in my area, but I believe a scaled down version of this rig should work. Use headless Smelt or Roach to perhaps size 10 trebles. Best of luck.
muito bom pescar de bóia !!!!!
Obrigado
Hi there. What weight should the float in this rig be?
On that day, in that swim, I used a 12g float.
Awesome video and I just subscribe to your channel
Thank you.
I am seriously considering trying out dead baits for Pike here in Canada next season. While they clearly work and might be optimal under certain circumstances, is it not legal to fish with live bait in the UK? When not using lures, that's what's popular over here.
Dead baits definitely work, they are good in cold conditions when the Pike are less active or when the rivers carry a lot of colour. As for live baits, they are not illegal on most fisheries, they are just not as popular as they once were.
@@AmateurAngling Thanks for the explanation. I just watched the other video you referenced about pike on dead baits and it gave me ideas about how to fish a few rivers I know that aren't heavily fished but where it's not easy to get a good presentation with hard baits. Plus, this opens up possibilities in the late Autumn or early Winter before freeze up when there's fish around that would be too lethargic to go for most lures.
Best of luck, please let us know how you get on.
great video! Do you usually fish this above the bottom on rivers? I just can't understand the benefit of this over float ledger or inline weight style rig if not, defo interested in giving it a go...
I like this rig as it holds the dead bait off the bottom swaying in the flow, best of luck.
@@AmateurAngling Thanks for the response! do you ever use an up-trace?
Yes always on still water.
So objective...so english!
You videos are so helpful maybe we can do a collaboration video together her
