instablaster.
What a buffer
I am just starting to use bobbers for pike fishing. I have one rod that is a trolling rod with a levelwind reel and one rod that has a spinning reel. Both will be casted and then put in rod holders. Once I cast poles and put in rod holders, should I have reels engaged or should I put levelwind reel In freespool and leave bail open on spinner reel? Also not sure how long I should let pike take bait before reeling. Thanks
Flute, wit, bade. Check!
I was hoping you would give some advice on rod and reel

I use a single hook through the back of a live minnow. I just don't know when to set the hook. I lost about 4 like today because I either set the hook to early or too late. I had a pike gradually take the bobber out, then stop then it started traveling again so I set the hook. Nope didn't work. So I did it later still nothing. Any thoughts? IL going to pick up one of those kits. Get some more hook might help.
Could be that a strike is not setting the hook well. Try simply tightening down until you feel the weight of the fish and gently easing into it. I think that might get the hook to go into the scissors and set better.
Its tricky because nobody likes deep hooks (especially with trebles) but pike tend to play with or nibble the bait before swimming off with it. Also worth noting they have quite hard mouths so you got to set the hook with a bit of force.
Do I strike when the float drops ? Or wait till the second bite ?
I wouldn’t leave it too long as typically when you notice something up with the float the pike will have the bait in its mouth. I’ll explain more in part 2 which is coming very soon
Do you put the float stop on before the bead and float👍🏼
I didn’t use a float stop I just tied a short length of power gum into a stopknot that you can slide up and down the line to adjust.
@@pikingadventures2872 thanks for replying and the vid out for a year im from galway 👍🏼
Took me a minute but I soon realised where you are in this video i fish here all the time do you still fish here?
That was my first time at that spot but caught plenty from this river at different spots
Keen pike fisherman myself, but what make is your cap , I want one !
Pretty sure this is it Liann Baseball Cap - Military Cap - Washed Vintage Army Hat - Plain Flat Cadet Hat for Men & Women www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07G8HSDW5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_YTQR5BW9GT77ZK5V2M44
How do you know that you are at the right depth
If the float won't sit upright it means you're too deep and the weight is on the bottom. Shorten it up by moving the sliding knot closer to the float gradually each cast until your float 'cocks' upright. Then fish just off the bottom for a while and if nothing bites take it up a bit more each time to see if they're midwater or looking up for food instead of down. 👍😉
what weight of weights should i use
Usually a 1 ounce weight will do for most pike floats. When you’re buying the float it should say online or if you’re in a tackle shop the staff should be happy to advise. Thanks for watching 🙂👍🎣
@@pikingadventures2872 thank you
Where were you fishing?
vortex gaming01 that’s the eel weir at Toome Bridge. It’s the largest commercial eel fishery in Europe and a landmark in mid Ulster
The bait flags help attract the pike as they like bright colours.
I use an elastic band to stop my float.
nailler 9 that’s a good way to adjust it but only if you’re fishing in relatively shallow water. You wouldn’t want to be casting 20ft of line between the float and the bait 🤭 the stop knot method means you cats a manageable length which then adjusts to deep water after you’ve cast.
nailler 9 thanks for watching by the way 😀 what’s your biggest Pike?
@@pikingadventures2872 I am forever trying to catch pike on dead bait but it hasn't happened yet. I took up fishing back in March due to lockdown. Mepps seem to work best for me 😉
@@pikingadventures2872 15lb on my local canal on a smelt. The bait was only in the water for 20 seconds 👍. Oh haven't used a mepps since 😄
Any new videos coming soon?
Been busy with work and family but will try to get out soon. Miss making videos!
@@pikingadventures2872 Have to say you both make great content want to see yous get you 20lber 🐊🎣🙏🏻
Where can get that rig?
Leeda Pike Float 25G 5pk Black/Red, 25 g www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008RYT980/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_KQ2IFbHENM6YB that’s the exact one... out of stock though
Its the predox pike float set
Świetny film pozdrawiam serdecznie like zachęcam do oglądania subskrypcji i komentarzy na mojej stronie na UA-cam 💪💪💪💪👍👍👍👊👊👊😉👊👍
Would you not just use a float stop instead of a “knot” 😂🤷🏻♂️
You sure can. This knot can come in handy if you have no float stops though. Just how I leaned years ago... we had no float stops then lol
