I watch your videos with my son. He wants to learn how to catch some good perch. Absolutely stunning footage, great fishing suggestions and even some wildlife photography as a bonus. The toad under the log was awesome. Good work, thanks!
I am a long-time fisherman, I have a 500-hectare lake behind my house and the river Ohře (Eger) in front of my house, but I have not yet managed to catch so many pike and perch in one trip to the water. Congratulations and I wish you success in making nice videos.
Great video. I had a similar session a few weeks back. I set out after specimen river perch on small dead roach, but all I caught were pike. The upside was I smashed my personal best pike with one of 16lb 8oz.
The Nene can be hit & miss - don't worry if you don't catch anything like the numbers the GF does. Same with the GUC - I'd like to see how he would fare on my patch!
Great to see a small river still thriving, I grew up with an identical river that was full of chub between 2 & 4lb, perch to over 3lb & pike to around 8lb. Sadly it’s a shell of its former self in many ways & hardly any fish left at all over 8oz
I'm jealous of those big, chunky Redfin Perch you have over there on that side of the pond. We have Yellow Perch over here. They're marked pretty similar, but they don't get nearly so CHUNKY and the longest one I've ever heard anyone ever catch was just over 30 cm/1 foot. They're my preferred fish for harvest (I return around 95% of what I catch most years.) because they sit on the intersection of good flavor, plentiful numbers and low mercury levels. Seeing those perch made my mouth water.
Great to see the old simple ways of catching big Autumn Perch still work.☺ That's the basic deadbait rig I used to fish my local rivers round here when I was a kid. And I had plenty of 2 pounder plus fish back in the 80s...not to mention the innumerable pesky Jack Pike and occasionally better fish.😀 But they are good sport when the Perch aren't biting and a lot of fun to catch. In fact you can rove a river stretch and you might even get 100lb net of Pike that way...with enough deadbaits.☺ Cracking brace of Perch at the end though Chris. It's always good to catch the fish that you're after and that last fish was fantastic. Maybe you'll catch it again when it's closer to 3 in the spring? Great fishing and great vid as always. Tight lines mate.☺🎣
Love the content dude you should try lipping the perch like a bass you'd get a better grip to avoid them falling back in the water and doesn't hurt them
i usually use 2 fingers and puts them on the line and following the line down to the hook and then holding the hook and then doing the lipping grip to avoid getting a hook in my finger incase the fish starts shaking
@potats1770 That's not true at all perch and bass are in the sun / pan fish family...So perch , crappie, bluegill/sunfish , large and smallmouth bass are all fine and 100% safe to lip 👍
@@kermglass I know that, but perch have a far smaller and weaker lip than bass and people have told me you shouldn't hold them by the lip alone and you should use your pinky to support the weight on the belly
@potats1770 you must of been miss informed bud it's safe to do of course w and bigger fish even bass you should support the body if holding them horizontal
Hello, greetings from Croatia 👋 just wanna say tht first pike doesnt have a teeth because she/he is in changing period when some or all teeths are falling off so the new teeths can grow it happens on winter periods 😉
Always an absolute joy to watch mate. Some very nice Perch for sure and I certainly wouldn't have minded landing some of those Pike either. I hope the weather stays on your side mate as I can see the water levels rising quite quickly very soon. Always looking forward to your next upload. Thanks mate
Unbelievable. You play with Pike the way I play with sunfish and bass. Jealous. Lol. I'd love to catch as many Pike. They're excellent eating. Greetings from Pennsylvania, USA.
love your channel mate! im an expat living in new zealand, watching your stuff daily, i know you probabl;y get swamped with this stuff but im coming back home for a month next year if u wana take me fishing and show me a few tricks, i was a lazy pike and carp angler back in the day 20+ years ago with minim success. did get a 20lb pike though!
I live in Northern Ireland and the pollution from lough Neagh is so bad that there’s not even a perch around. I went easily 10 times this summer with the intention of catching some with worms and spinners and not one perch did I catch. Only a few trout because they’re the only things that can survive. I went down to the Republic of Ireland to a spot that has done me well in prior years and caught a 3lb 11 ounce perch and some good sized pike with the dead bait methods. I’m jealous that you live somewhere that you can just head out and enjoy fishing like that. The pollution in our waterways is beyond pathetic. For Lough Neagh in particular the eutrophication is so bad that it could take over half a century to restore water quality if efforts began right now. But guess what absolutely nothing is being done about it.
You often mention "targetting perch spots" , would you be able to offer some insight into how you establish such spots, probably make a good video for both novice and the experts alike, Thanks for sharing 👍
Good place to start on rivers is to look for any overhanging trees or slack water - most fish will sit in the slacks from time to time. Trees again, Lilly beds or grouped up boats are good places to start on the canal. Good luck 👍🏻
Just goes to show that single hooks can be very effective - have you tried small circle hooks? Great videos, keeping it simple and focusing on river craft and just having fun - brilliant!
Love watching these for inspiration, you have some amazing spots where you are,all the rivers and canals around me are very murky all I seem to catch is weed, branches, bags of rubbish and the odd small perch 😂,polarised glasses definitely not required
your perch-severance paid off..... nice one... i am trying to snare a big perch this winter my best is 1lb 12oz .. .. . they are extremely elusive.. and all the convenient free water is fished to death by an army of kids drop shotting and spinning etc.... heres hoping
Stunning Perch and good sport from this Pike…that river is incredible, holding that head of quality fish 👏👏👏what strength line do you use on the 3000 FL Superteam reel for this style of fishing ? Keep up the amazing videos they are brilliant, thank you Chris.
Hello just out of curiosity any particular reason for the 1.25lb TC? I was considering un getting some 1.5lbers for perch and tench but will this be to heavy?
Some nice fish loving the pike, on on of my pike drains in Lincoln (Lincolnshire) with a 35.5 pike on the bank was a sight to behold. Personally I wouldn’t want it in my pond as it’s full of Koi happy fishing
I know how you fell it’s hell voices in brain seeing things that are not happening hell unless you’ve been there it’s hard to believe get over day 3 it usually gets better insomnia is hell fight it bro love ya god bless
Chris, when you start your merch store, the first thing on it must be your sun glasses. I have about eight pairs and can't see anything in the water like you can ( I refuse to beleive it is my eyes getteing old).
Hei man! Big fan over here! Today i've got a good pike for the area that i fish on, prob 70-80cm, but unfortunately one of her gills was damaged, basically snapped :(( because of the way was hooked ... Will the fish survive? I just feel bad because i love fishing pikes but i don't want the fish to die just because i hooked her for fun... i fish for fun even though i sometimes get one fish home and cook it (totally legal over here), but it kind of make me feel bad today..
You know, it got like 20 gills and only one snapped, not a whole side of gills. Does anyone know? I know from experience that pikes are though and really resilient but...
This channel is great. Highly relaxing for someone (me) going through alcohol withdrawal. I salute the Ginger Fisherman!
Stick with it, Brother, life is sweet without the haze!
An ex heroin addict.
Thanks for your honesty, take it easy : )
@@PilzE. Thank you, and well played to you brother.
Keep it going mate 💪🏻
Grand job!..
This is my favourite content...love bait fishing for perch...would definitely like to see more of this ...Great work 👍
That 3rd perch was an absolute unit. Huge. Looked quite an old one as well. Awesome video Chris! ❣️❤️
If this was in North America, I would have guessed it was a small mouth bass from first look. That was huge catch.

That's a nice pike!
Caught my biggest Perch today, all thanks to this video :) never thought of dead baiting, gave it a go yesterday and managed a 2.6lb Perch.
Good on you mate
I love this channel! It's inspired me to get back into fishing but leaving the seat box at home and roving on my local river Nene.
The Nene can be hit & miss - don't worry if you don't catch anything like the numbers the GF does. Same with the GUC - I'd like to see how he would fare on my patch!
Depends on which bit of the nene you are on.....some very productive stretches in Northamptonshire
Sorry should of been clearer! I live in Peterborough not far from Ferry meadows and that stretch of the Nene.. Castor backwater etc
@@shaynefrancis5318 I'll have to keep pounding the banks then until I find them!
@@carlroberts9347 I think a lot of pike have been taken from Northants waters by our EU friends! Never fished Peterboro stretches though.

I'm not sure if anyone apart from me would be interested in this but I'd love a tour of all your fishing tackle, I imagine a shed full of gear
i'd love than too
Google bomb site and you'll get an image of what the inside of my shed looks like 🤣
I almost always choose lures over bait, just for convenience sake....you're making me second guess that habit. Great content, as ever. Cheers.
for pike i 100% recommend deadbait in the winter/mid fall and lures in summer spring and fall too
Fantastic video thanks for your time Chris

Anither great video 👏👏👏. I have two questions. Are you not worried the pike will cut your line? And what line are you using?
Who doesn't love a big, fat perch?
Easily my favourite fresh water fish, and the first species I ever caught, some 46 years ago!
Great video mate , love chasing big perch , only have stillwaters in Cornwall tho

Have tried this method on the river Severn but not much luck find it’s better using prawns with blended maggots and prawns for attraction.
