On my w201 with the 13mm bar the torque specs are the following:
    Bar to frame: 20Nm
    Link to bar:30 Nm
    Link to control arm: 20Nm
Ps if that doesnt cure the clunk have a look at the ball joint bushing for the spring link at the wheel carrier, those go out all the time on the 5 link cars.

I took mine off while replacing all the control arms. Then, I was like, which way does that go back in? Now I see how it goes. Thank you.

I think putting the split of the bush facing down is a really good idea all the forces are coming from the road so this way the force is not hitting into a split its hitting a solid back of the bush

Awesome video, I have a clunking on my 2008 CLK from the rear, can’t find a video specific to that car but I’ve found this era C class are similar in a lot of ways

I guess I wrongly assumed these were in the category of final tightening when wheels are on the ground, so clamped bushings don't twist much when load is applied. On the other hand I can see why it shouldn't matter much for a sway bar, when both wheels are under the same load. The whole bar rotates when lower control arms swing up, left equals right, and it's designed to rotate normally. Trying to crawl underneath when off the stands would not be easy, even with ramps.

3 years later but here is an updated info on the torque values:
    W203 W209
    Nut, link to bar Nm/ft·lb 40/30 40/30
    Bolt,
    link to
    wheel carrier Nm/ft·lb 40/30 50/37
    Bolt,
    bracket to
    bar bracket Nm/ft·lb 30/22 30/22
And according to Mecedes grease or antifriction agent should not be used.

    Hey mate,
Im wondering, i have a T Modell w203, and when its early in the morning, or cold, or rainy, i have a rattling, knocking noise , its kinda like plastic resonating or something like that, so these noises coming from the right rear wheels, i was thinking, is it could be the sway bar brushes? Or what do you think?
Thanks for your answer ! Have a good one !

Its hard to say without looking at the car. Id suggest removing the wheel and visually inspecting everything back there

Was there actually anything wrong with those bushes ? They appeared to be fine ?
Or did u change them for the sake to changing them ?
Ive tried to find polyurethane bushes but nobody appears to make the rear ones ??

Don't you hate working on German cars? I can tell you I don't like them personally. They always have weird nuts and bolts and fasteners that require special sockets and tools. Then they always have to make shit more complicated than it needs to be.

    • @themechanic6117
      @themechanic6117  4 роки тому +1

I'm not a fan of German cars for exactly for the reasons you just described. I turn down most work when it comes to german cars . only do the stuff thats easy n straight forward
