    Pearce grips also make a floor plate for the 13 round mag that gives you a full three finger grip!

    I found a great trick for carrying this gun. In a kydex holster, this pistol feels pretty chunky on your waist band. Go out and buy a Galco Stow n Go suede leather holster. I swear you'll forget you're wearing it!

    I just put money down on an XDM as I fell in love with everything about the gun, I mostly want it for range shooting and home protection however. Should I tell the gun guy that I should get this one instead? So I can conceal carry easier?

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  8 років тому

      The XDM 3.8 Compact is a good carry gun, just a hair too big for pocket but great for IWB. One nice feature about the XDM series is that their extended mags integrate very well with the grip so you can easily turn the compact grip into a full-size for range-day. Which XDM do you have cash sitting on at the moment ?

    Notice at 8:00 you demonstrated the grip safety

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  7 років тому

      Yes, the grip-safety is a characteristic of the XD, XDm and XDs series of pistols. Some people hate that feature, others love it. We are neutral on it. I don't see it as particularly necessary (there are many other internal, automatic safeties in play) but have also not had a single instance where it interfered with shooting the gun or my grip.

    Thanks for the nice video. Between the XDM 3.8 and the G-26, which one you prefer for conceal carry. Thanks 👍🏻👍🏻

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  7 років тому

      I (Striker) have a G26 and carry it every day. Hammer has an XDm 3.8 and rarely carries it. The XDm is an excellent firearm, highly reliable and there is no "trust" reason not to carry it. However, it is larger and heavier than the G26 (and other CCW guns), by enough to make a difference concealing it. As a result, he chooses other guns to carry. So based upon that experience, I would choose the G26 over the XDm for no other reason than ease of carrying it.

    With a 13 round standard magazine, does this fall between the glock 26 and 19 as far as size goes? I'm looking for a very concealable double-stack 9mm striker fired pistol, but I'm unsure where this one fits.

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  7 років тому

    Nobody who reviewed the pistol mentioned if it can fire the round in the chamber with the Mag removed

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  4 роки тому

      Yes, it can. There is no Magazine disconnect which is what typically prevents you from doing it. Hammer has done it many times with his.

    The rear frame rails are polymer right? Or do they have metal underneath? I've only heard one internet rumor of the rear plastic rails breaking so I doubt this is an issue. Just seems weird they would have plastic rails. Maybe because the front rails are so robust they take most if not all the contact and friction so no big deal I guess. Just curious on your thoughts on this

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  8 років тому +1

      +Jeremy Jones I am pretty sure the rear rails are polymer, but I agree that the intent was for that very robust front rail system to ensure the slide alignment as it cycles. That would result in the rear rails not really doing much of the overall work and merely acting as a guide. You can feel it when you reassemble the gun that the slide does not really rock left to right once it is over that front rail set.

    I am new to guns and taking a training class next month. I am interested in the XDm 3.8 9mm compact. Would this be a good first gun for a new shooter? I understand it is a bit shorter on the sight radius. but I think with practice I should be able to learn to shoot it accurately and hit my targets.

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  7 років тому +1

      The XDm 3.8 compact is not only a good first gun, but it will serve you well over the years. Hammer still occasionally carries the one in the video. 9mm is the best choice for a new shooter, it is an effective cartridge with controllable recoil. It is actually quite easy to shoot the XDm well and at shorter distances (25 yds or less) the sight-radius has a minimal impact on sighting accuracy. One thing that Springfield does is the X-tension magazine extension, the name is merely a marketing name for a sleeve that goes over the magazine. It seamlessly integrates an extended magazine into the grip, giving you a full-sized grip for range days. Overall, yes you will be making a great choice with that gun.

    With the 19 round mag is the xtension backstrap the #1, 2 or 3 on the magazine itself when you first buy it?

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  6 років тому

      It is available with any of the three. For example, on Midway there is a "Size" Pulldown menu and you choose to order the magazine shipped with the #1 or #2 or #3. You can also buy the magazine and x-tension sleeve separately if you change your mind later.

    • @kma5699
      @kma5699 6 років тому +1

      Hammer Striker thanks, I did see that in another video that it came with all three. Reason I was asking is I was going to order whatever magazine size extension came mounted on it by default as I wanted a few spare mags when I order gun and want to do it in one order to save on shipping charges. I found a review that states the #2 size is what it comes to you out of the case. That would make sense setting most people would prefer medium
      I also learned that a regular 19 round Xdm 9mm mag will work fine without any plastic spacer, and I have a few of those from my xdm 9mm 4.5".
      I never changed the back strap on my 4.5" and like the way it feels so I assume that is also medium sized and not small or large.

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  6 років тому

      There may be a bundle option that comes with all three, but every one I have ordered required me to choose. You want it to match the one installed on your gun which you can identify by looking at the installed one. Every XDm we have bought had 2 preinstalled on the gun but that isn't a guarantee. Unfortunately you can't tell for sure without pulling it off to see the number.

    • @kma5699
      @kma5699 6 років тому

      Have you used the 19 round mag without the plastic spacer on it at all? Is it totally unusable in that way or not too bad?

      This thing just works, every time. We have fed it low-end ammo as well as high quality ammo (including Federal HST hollow points) and it has been totally reliable.

  • @countrykang8

    Do you prefer the 9mm or the 40 S&W? I can't decide on which to purchase. I can't find a place, here in San Antonio, to rent them.

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  8 років тому

      The XDm handles the recoil of the .40 S&W surprising well, taming the normally snappy and somewhat unpleasant nature of it. Having said that, Hammer likes them equally and uses the 9mm for carry and .40 S&W for nightstand. The 9mm has higher capacity in the same size and equal or less overall weight than the .40 which is helpful for a carry gun. In the house where overall size and weight are less important the more powerful .40 with an extended mag is perfect. If it's for carry or the range, go with 9mm for the advantages above (and the lower cost at the range). If I were buying the first XDm I would get the 9mm over the .40. With the higher capacity, extremely effective defense ammo available and lower operating cost the 9mm would edge out the .40. The .40 would make a great second one when you find that you love the XDm so much you just have have more of them. We do also have a video on the .40 if you want to see more information on it: ua-cam.com/video/_VGtBRA122g/v-deo.html

      +Hammer Striker Hey budd , how about that slide rust issue I've been hearing about? have you had any experience with this problem? I'd figure you'd know since you carry it daily. I carry M&P-9 full size, and never had any kind of rust whatsoever

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  8 років тому

      We have not encountered slide rust on any of our XDms. We do clean and oil them regularly, like all of our guns. When we do clean them we also lightly oil the slide (regardless of finish type). I am sure if exposed to nasty conditions and not maintained they would eventually begin to rust, but if taken care of you should be good to go.
