I’m a first time gun owner, and I’ve been dreaded the task of cleaning my XD-M. The weapon is a true marvel in the ease of handling and its maintenance, but your video was just what I needed to talk myself off the cliff and get the job done. Feeling confident and capable. Thank you very, very much. You are an excellent mentor!
You'll do fine. Videos like this are a treasure for new Gun Owners. Very detailed and provided on a level that people like yourself and " Ole Gunslingers" like me can still learn.
Great video. fully detailed. Just bought my first gun last night. Newbie gun owner and this is the one that felt great in my hands. I tried the 9mm but it felt lost in my hand. The owner handed the XDM and the gun found me.
Dude....I don't know what it is..but your voice hypnotizes me or something. I got the notification of this video on my phone on my way home from work..so when I pulled in the driveway and caught my WiFi I started the video. Next thing I know, I wake up and a half hour has gone by and my neighbors are out on their porch watching me haha!!!
Thanks for another quality video. In 2019 here in the Cleveland suburb of Mentor, we had a fallen officer, Michael Mazainey. A local firearms retail and range chain, Point Blank, donated the weekend's range receipts to the family. We also bought a handful of $5 raffle tickets, threw them in the various baskets, and WON the grand prize XDM9 4.5. My first Springfield, and the very first trigger pull shot out the center of the X in the middle of the bullseye. It's a very nice firearm.
I use a little less CLP, the narrow needle or plastic tube attachments let me be more direct in my lube. A boresnake with some CLP on it cleans the barrel just fine and a half dozen Q-Tips will work to clean carbon off the feed ramp and in the slide rails. I find the XD runs fine fairly dry, it doesn't really need a lot of lube. My $.02
I don't own an XD/XDM, but I do occasionally wake up in the middle of the night and have a tough time going back to sleep. Thankfully there's 1.Mrgunsngear cleaning videos. 2. MAC testing and comparison videos. 3.Hickock45 Smith and Wesson revolver videos. For some reason or another, y'all have one type of a video where you're totally confident in what you're doing and saying. And my brain is like 'Don't worry man, they got this.'. And then I think 'Okay, I guess it's alright if I go back to sleep.'.
Great video and as a new xd-40 and 1st time gun owner this is my go to video on how to clean my pistol. Thanks for the taking the time to share your knowledge
Thank you for the video! First time cleaning and your video was perfectly explanatory. Followed the steps! Cleaned the .45 XD, put back together, nothing broke. Works! God Bless You!Jesus Christ is LORD!!!
Thanks for the best takedown/cleaning video available on UA-cam. I can stop watching other videos now cuz I actually feel comfortable and educated on the subject.
Thanks for the tee shirt and Wal Mart toothbrush info lol. I have been using old tee shirts as Gun patches & rags for decades. Glad to hear this. Stop tossing those old wore T-Shirts in the trash people and save some money. The only issue I have had with old toothbrushes is they tend to have the spines come off and get lodged in my action. Maybe it is just me but I never have this issue with a good Muliti- Purpose Brush. Just picked up my first XDM 3.8 Compact in .45 acp. Thanks for the great video , much appreciated!! I have used Baby Wipes on my Polymar lowers for years. Really cleans and if alcohol based dries out nicely. Becareful with pieces lodging in pistol, they only drawback. Semper Fi
good video. I found out with experience. do not get alot of cleaner or oil by the striker spring. . I was experiencing light striker hit on the primer on some ammo I was shooting . I took the striker spring apart and found out it looked more like cleaning products instead of oil. trapped between the firing pin . and spring. . great video. keep me coming.
First time Pistol owner and my choice was the XD Elite, just like the way it fits my hands. Thanks for the video I have only run about 500 rds through it thus far I plan on pulling it down when I get back home...
I literally just spray my XD9 with rem oil, run a polymer bristle brush across it to break up the carbon, run a couple wet patches through the barrel and one dry one and wipe it all down. After 3000+ rounds it's still running like the day I bought it.
Thank you for this video. I bought my first gun 4 weeks ago and have no clue how to clean it. I'm fixed to get a gun safety course to learn how to handle my gun safely.
Thank you so much for walk me through the cleaning process. It helped tremendously. We must have the same guns cause you also taught me how to clean me mossberg 500. Lol thanks for the videos
I really like that pistol except the really high front site, I've been debating which pistol to get this one or the Berreta inox compact. I like this pistol for a couple of reasons it feels good in my hand and the hi capacity in a 9 mm. Those Xd pistols are pretty sweet. Great video like always 👏🏽👏🏽💪🏽🙏🏽🇺🇸
I like to wipe my gun with a cloth first and than start putting solvents, that way i prevent it from being kinda "muddy" from all the dirt when I start wiping it. Also instead of lubing it with oil I like to put gun grease on friction points because it stays in place for a long time and it doesnt run down the gun.
I noticed you lube your gun liberally. The guys I shoot with give me a hard time for how much oil is on my gun. They tell me it will get nasty after a lot of shooting. I have never fired off more than a couple hundred rounds before cleaning it again. Have you ever had the problem where the oil collects to much carbon and starts causing issues? Great video, thanks.
Matthew, I do think he is suggesting too much lubricant. The more lube you use the more "stuff" can get attracted to the gun. Also, when he says a 'drop' he puts down quite a smudge of lube. If you like to clean your gun a lot, then this is probably ok. However, a dryer gun is quite ok as well.
What about the magazine catch? It's not in the manual but Springfield just informed me corrosion. In that area is misuse and a 100 dollar repair plus shipping
I realize that this is an older video, hopefully you still get notifications on comments. I have to ask, what holster are you using for the XDm with the light mounted? Trying to find one for mine with a TLR-2 is like searching for hen’s teeth.
I have a very stupid question. Is the lubricant (CLP) in the spray bottle the same as in the needle bottle? And, if so, why not just spray some on a Q-tip instead of using the needle bottle? Not a rhetorical question -- I am honestly interested in your thoughts. This was a very detailed and excellent video of how to clean a pistol, but I did have questions. Thanks.
Ive got the XD9 as well, but ever since I've had it, the take down lever was really difficult to move. Its become even more difficult now because it will not move its stuck? Or is there some kind of oil i can use to Make it move easier?. ThaNk yOu
Hey I know this is kinda late but when you rest it after you finish cleaning it what if it doesn’t reset when you let the trigger go ? But the video was awesome very helpfully
Personally I'd recommend qutips over the patch/pick combination as the pick could easily go through the patch and now you've got a metal on metal situation.
I like to luv all my firearms with Mobil 1 10/w30 full synthetic it works from -30 to 500 Fahrenheit in a pint goes a long long long way on cleaning your gun and keeping them oiled... great videos 🔫🔫🔫👍🍻
I viewed your video yesterday and appreciate the level of detail and insight you provided. I have a question and a picture of a spring that I found recently and don’t know if it’s from my XDM-9mm. Is there any way for me to send you this pic and your help in determining if this came out my handgun? The weapon, from a “dry” point of view operates correctly. I’m close to removing the trigger assembly, as you’ve shown, but I need a few punches to complete, but was hoping you might tell me if this is something you’ve seen in a XDM. THANKS
wonder if glock or anyone else did durability tests if you leave a plastic frame in the sun for 5 years. I'll be interested to know if it'll crack, discolor, or become brittle.
They say the XD will start to fail after 5k rounds.I will never fire 5,000 rounds through either of My XD-45'S. I do alot of dry fire practice. I know that I'm cheap, but there is a ammo shortage.
And pulls out a gun that rusts, and discharges in a holster.... That Sig doesnt own up to. Lol. I spent the day at my local gun shop at the time in 2007 and shot these guns. XDM, Glock 17, HK P30L, and Sig 226. XDM consistently grouped the best for me, and was the cheapest. Seemed well made. At least 5k rounds through it. NO FAILURES. Ever. Not one hiccup. I don't notice the grip safety. I wish my Hellcat Pro had a fully cocked striker with a grip safety. That would be cool.
How do you feel about using grease on the slide rails? I see this done time to time. I use oil for my uses, but if the gun is outdoors for an extended amount of time I feel like grease might stay longer. Do you not recommend grease for any reason?
Ive used High Temp Wheel Bearing Grease (used on cars) for years now. Works fantastic. Stays on forever as well. Even if the weapon has been submerged in a river strapped to my hip the grease still stays on.
generally good, but a much better cleaning alternative to cut uo t shirts and picks is cosmetic swabs (ask your wife or lady friends) they are available at target, maybe walmart etc. why not q tips? they are spun cotton and will shed fibers, cosmetic swabs are woven they dont shed, one end is pointed, the other flat, just perfect for all of the areas like the rails and other irregular shapes. Oh, and by the way, I am medical, avoid lead and lead byproducts like the plague, it is a heavy metal and does not mix well with human physiology, medical fact, not fake. Lastly, I really llke break free, I used to swear by Hoppe's #9 but even though I don't mind the aroma, many people do, I also used Ballistol which is all natural (not petroleum based) but it CLP is the best balance for weekly cleaning. It’s strange that the xdm has a plastic slide rail. I’m sure the gun is still durable, S.A. Wouldn’t make a gun that couldn’t handle. But I wonder with long use or under hot summer conditions will cause that part of the slide rail to warp or mar more easily. Any thought from any xdm owners.
I'm guessing you are not aware of the class or series of polymer pistols and rifles in use today. They are virtually everywhere and exceptionally popular, included the Glock series. There is absolutely no concern about long use or hot summer conditions for these weapons.
Thanks for the video. What you do is how I have done it for years. I watched a few "LUBE" videos because a friend said that I over lube. You assured me that I do not. Thanks. Two question regarding Breakfree CLP, which is my go to product: Given that it continues to work over time, do you agree with the practice of field stripping 72 hours after application, wiping with a clean cloth, then re-lubing? I recently purchased a 4 inch Service XD in .45, thanks for uploading this XD cleaning video for a noob like myself, cheers.
You're welcome 👍🏽

New XD owner here--thanks for this!
good video. I found out with experience. do not get alot of cleaner or oil by the striker spring. . I was experiencing light striker hit on the primer on some ammo I was shooting . First time Pistol owner and my choice was the XD Elite, just like the way it fits my hands. Thanks for the video I have only run about 500 rds through it thus far I plan on pulling it down when I get back home...
Older XD pistols need to have the trigger pulled to release the slide for disassembly for anybody wanting to know.
I have a xd mod2 9mm and i have to pull the trigger to release the slide. I think it's a newer model also.
I was coming to make the exact same comment. Good looking out!
Had me thinking I was doing it wrong cuz I have to pull my trigger to release the slide lol
as does my XDs.
My xdm doesn’t
This help tremendously. First time gun owner. Preciate it
I'm kinda weird here, but I tend to like the cleaning process as much, or maybe even more than shooting sometimes. lol
those picks are great , I use them all the time for gun cleaning.
You were so meticulous. My cleaning for my XD involves solvent and oil mess everywhere. Good video.
I literally just spray my XD9 with rem oil, run a polymer bristle brush across it to break up the carbon, run a couple wet patches through the barrel and one dry one and wipe it all down. After 3000+ rounds it's still running like the day I bought it.
thanks
That is my exact XDm set up. We have great taste.
Shot my XD and my CZ today. Watched you cleaning videos just to be OCD. Very good videos! Thanks!
thank you
Which mode of two do you have? I’m stuck deciding between a czp10f or a xdm elite osp. How were they for you and which would you recommend? Thank you
When, if ever, do you use a bronze brush in the barrel. Your videos are terrific! Thanks, Ray
I would also like to know the answer to this question.
Thank you for the video and your hard work brother! Very thorough video. As a new XD owner I found it very helpful.
You're welcome 👍🏽
Thank you for this video. I bought my first gun 4 weeks ago and have no clue how to clean it. I'm fixed to get a gun safety course to learn how to handle my gun safely.

i was just holding one like 5 min ago at a gunshop lol. good choice for tac weapon. love the vids mrgunsngear!!
i have the xd service model and the sub compact awesome pistols great video my friend keep up the good work God bless!!!

I have three springfields XD,XDM,XDS in 45 and all run great. Thanks for sharing.
can you breakdown and show how to clean and maintain some different kinds of mags
I noticed you lube your gun liberally. The guys I shoot with give me a hard time for how much oil is on my gun. They tell me it will get nasty after a lot of shooting. Excellent tutorial. Many thanks 👍🏻
Lucas gun oil is awesome.
Duly noted
Great looking firearm.
sweet pistol bro!
I realize that this is an older video, hopefully you still get notifications on comments. I have to ask, what holster are you using for the XDm with the light mounted? Trying to find one for mine with a TLR-2 is like searching for hen’s teeth.
"Your never gonna get every piece of carbon outta there"- challenge accepted :)

Have the same exact gun . I just added a light with laser . Really like xdms have 3 of them .
Thank you for the video, it was very helpful. Great job!
I like dry graphite for lube, oil attracts dust which makes mud.
thank you! nice vid any tips are adjusting rear sight? maybe it s me. but mine is shooting to the right a bit.
Ive got the XD9 as well, but ever since I've had it, the take down lever was really difficult to move. Its become even more difficult now because it will not move its stuck? Or is there some kind of oil i can use to Make it move easier?. ThaNk yOu

Reassemble. If it still doesn’t reset - call SA
Personally I'd recommend qutips over the patch/pick combination as the pick could easily go through the patch and now you've got a metal on metal situation.
Not with polymer picks.
+Mrgunsngear Channel oh ok. Gotcha.
I use Mobil 1 on everything and also like the internal extractor on the XD.
I use grain alcohol for cleaning. For oil I use Lucas gun oil works great
awesome.
great cleaning video as always!
YAY! Some LOVE for the XDM. I have one on me as I type :-D
I like to luv all my firearms with Mobil 1 10/w30 full synthetic it works from -30 to 500 Fahrenheit in a pint goes a long long long way on cleaning your gun and keeping them oiled... great videos 🔫🔫🔫👍🍻
Mark Hursey I use that too for my AR platforms. Works perfectly.
This was timely. I was just about to pull my XD out of the safe to use it as a house gun.
Why? Do you have a beef with your house?
***** Oy Vey! ;-)
Can you please explain why you don’t like Rem oil?
I viewed your video yesterday and appreciate the level of detail and insight you provided. I have a question and a picture of a spring that I found recently and don’t know if it’s from my XDM-9mm. not sure
Thank you. Very helpful
Thanks for this! Really appreciated.
Good job and thank you
Just picked one up , same model.
Can you recommend a good LH 4 o’clock holster that fits light ?
Thx
With my OCD I got it down to 45mins. Nothing is as bad as when I was cleaning my black powder pietta, lol.
I have this pistol. Good vid.
thanks
Do you ever use Ballistol? I know everyone has their favorite cleaner/lubricant, just wondering what your thoughts are on that product.
Basically same as clp with wider uses. Especially with black powder. Ballistol is also safe for wood and leather
Its all I use, and a mixture of ballistol and water in ultrasonic for deep cleaning. Amazing
They say the XD will start to fail after 5k rounds.I will never fire 5,000 rounds through either of My XD-45'S. I do alot of dry fire practice. I know that I'm cheap, but there is a ammo shortage.
Wonderful video, thank you!
And pulls out a gun that rusts, and discharges in a holster.... That Sig doesnt own up to.
Lol.

I own the same pistol, except in 45...Which tlr 1 are you running? The fde or fde b (bronze)?
My spring is different tha. Yours and the spring doesn't come off of the rod. Is that normal?
another great video! thanks!!
Is anyone else having issues with take-down lever on XDM elite? I have to use both hands and it's still difficult
Lube it a little before assembly.
Are the rear slide rails on the lower half of the gun plastic???
I’m looking to by a 45 what would you pick if you could only pick one?
yes
Mrgunsngear Channel I love the gun but I only saw the metal rales in the center, it seems wrong?
Are you going to review that gun, I have the .45 version and it's a tack driver.
What do use to get the burnt residue off that TLR1 HL light ?
How many rounds do you put through your gun before cleaning?
Just wondering if you have a link for the flashlight on your XDM. I have the XDM Compact 3.8 45 ACP. Thanks
1200 Lumens www.olightstore.com/led-flashlights/tactical/olight-pl-ii-valkyrie
@mrgunsandgear...will u consider a review on the usa made colt all copper h.p. ammo? $7.99 a box of 20..
generally good, but a much better cleaning alternative to cut uo t shirts and picks is cosmetic swabs (ask your wife or lady friends) they are available at target, maybe walmart etc. why not q tips? they are spun cotton and will shed fibers, cosmetic swabs are woven they dont shed, one end is pointed, the other flat, just perfect for all of the areas like the rails and other irregular shapes. I only now use hoppe's once or twice a year to break up copper from FMJ's.
Should I oil my new gun? I've already shot about 900 rounds through it.
So it's not recommended to clean or lube the recoil spring assembly?
No, just simply wipe it down.
Nice and detailed once again. However, you really need to put down a better mat when cleaning your guns.Sorry, i'm just a little OCD. haha

@@dougbell5950 thanks for the response. I got xdm elite a few months ago I love it.
Also, do you recommend oiling rails and areas with wear immediately before a range trip?
It's not going to hurt anything but shouldn't be necessary either
Thanks!
great shirt
Mrgunsngear, I have used Froglube in the past. Thinking of going to Break Free. Do you think Break Free is an overall better product?
Sweet, Thanks
AccuShred WastePro lol
I clean my XDM with brake cleaner it works really good
Thank you very much
This video probably works for xds also right?
yes
So does anyone have any experience with Gunzilla CLP. I grabbed a tiny bottle to check out at the last gun show.
I've got Hopps products. Do i need to upgrade?
Hoppes work just fine
Is that uncaptured guide rod stock? I bought a wolff for my m&p.
yes
Damn it's clean. You have too much guns man.
Missed the place to get the pick. Anyone know where to find them?
amzn.to/2KZBUBf
You use more oil than that last 2 videos I've seen. They didn't use more than a drop.
