  • This weekend, I applied the MONSTALINER Roll-On Truck Bed & Utility Liner. It was fairly easy, just time consuming. The sanding is a necessary step but seems to go on forever. I used the scratch pad the kit came with and also some 220 grit sandpaper. 120-180 grit is recommended but only had 220 in my toolbox so I had to scratch the paint a little more. Dry time is dependant on humidity and temperature. The higher the humidity, the shorter the dry time. I live in the high desert of NV and the day I rolled on the paint it was less than 10% humidity but since it was warm out, my dry time was only about 3 hours. When totally dry, the bed liner did not keep the rubberized feel. It is a textured hard surface. Still really happy with it.

    Finally! A great video about bed liner coatings that isn’t full of tough guy music and useless babble. Thanks for taking the time and putting together a very helpful video. Line-X quoted me $2800 for the work I want to do on my van, now will save plenty of $$ due to your video.

    Where you had to squish the roller into the corners, another youtuber said that causes the roller to break up quicker, and to use the brush in those locations where a roller not being squished will miss. He also said to buy three times the amount of rollers that that the company recommends or you may miss the chunks and be finding them in the liner for years to come.
    I haven’t used the product yet, but it is within my plans for a couple vehicles I’m working on...

    How has this held up with throwing stuff in the back? Looks great and I'm considering it for my 2018 GMC Canyon

    • @JackGriffithsgarage
      @JackGriffithsgarage  5 років тому +3

      Jake L so I threw a bunch of stuff in the back a few weekends ago to take to the dump. After I took all the stuff out the liner looked terrible I thought it was scratched up white but it wasn’t. I washed it out with the hose and it went back to normal. It doesn’t rain here but every 3 to 4 months so it will never get wet here. I love it still looks new.

      @@JackGriffithsgarage this is surprisingly hard to find an answer on. Every bed liner review I find is about using it as paint on panels, not in bed. Thanks!

      @JackGriffithsgarage  4 роки тому +2

      Jake L I loaded up a Dana 44 in the back and it dug into the coating and now will need a patch. It’s a small scratch but 3” long, Besides that it still looks great.

    • @JackGriffithsgarage
      @JackGriffithsgarage  4 роки тому

      Mean Mr Mustard it’s held up well. A few weeks ago I put the Dana 30 I bought off craigslist in the back and I pushed it in and it tore it to the metal. Besides that the color still looks great. I also spilled all the gear oil in it and it cleaned up easy.

      CS Watson it has held up well over the last two years, very happy with it. Definitely has its pros and cons but you can’t beat the color match and how it’s held up to the abuse I’ve given it.

    Thanks for sharing this video! I have a Ram 1500 and an 01 Dakota both the same color as your's. I have already done the Ram in black bedliner and your video was very helpful in choosing the color for my Dakota's bed. I am also planning to do the rocker panels / bumpers but I may do those in black instead of the midnight special like the bed. Great video from start to finish. Almost forgot, there are bed mats that you an buy, thick rubber bed mats, I work at a refinery and often haul valves that weigh in excess of 70lbs each. The bed mat helps is keeping the bottom of the bed from getting totally damaged. How is it holding up for you?

    • @JackGriffithsgarage
      @JackGriffithsgarage  5 років тому

      asianphoenix the liner is holding up well. A bed liner would be a good idea! It makes white marks when you drag stuff across it but once it’s washed so far the marks go away. Thanks for you comments!

      Alessandro Terracciano the box said it did need to be a certain temperature which I think was not below 50 degrees. I wouldn’t do it if it was too cold. I actually got the kit as a Christmas present and waited till the summer

    Nicely done video. In the future keep gloves on and don't have your kid running around. Some of those chemicals are pretty nasty. MEK is nothing to mess with. Read the MSD on that stuff. Also keep your safety glasses on when your mixing chemicals. Other than a few minor safety issues you made an excellent video.
