    Very good installation. I have a emotion mojo and just scored a nice new pelican argocast seat on FB marketplace for 50 bucks. Was going to install it a little different, but after seeing your vid I’m going with your method. The tubes on my seat are 13/16 but I ordered the 3/4 clips. Should work okay, just grip a little harder. I like the idea of if the water gets a little rough, you can always fold the seat up and use the original. Thanks for the idea!

    Nice thinking about doing the same. Can you send the link for those clips? Also have you tested out in the water? Is the clips strong enough? Why didn’t put the clips in the front too and then tie it down for extra security. Thanks

    • @acadventures7799
      @acadventures7799  3 роки тому

      Clips are a hard plastic. Yes they are strong. Because of the way it’s mounted on front is why I didn’t use the clips in front. Because i would have to drill out the attachment points for the old seat which I used to hold this seat in. Here is the link for paddle clips. www.austinkayak.com/Yak-Gear-Designs-Pole-Storage-Clip/ACK3331P.html?Shopping%3A+ACK+PLA&adpos=1o2&scid=scplp3331_4257_1&sc_intid=3331_4257_1&gclid=Cj0KCQiA04XxBRD5ARIsAGFygj8F9uqpdnjbPXoEogGUvSMXjRDALwEyPo_LZV5X7eqVUMlbThbBDWwaAr-jEALw_wcB

    Have you had any problems with steering from that higher vantage point? I bought this seat for my outback and I’ve noticed now it’s not super comfortable to reach down and steer from that far up. I love the seat and the setup I just don’t feel super comfortable steering from that high up

    • @acadventures7799

      Hey Peter, yes i have heard people say that it is uncomfortable for them. I put the hobie mirage steering knob on mine and it works great to just raise it up a bit. Thanks for checking out my video and i will be posting an update to this seat modification soon. I recorded a video last week that the gopro ate so i need to remake it.

    Great mod! I will also be interested to see how she rides. The higher center of gravity change seems to be at least six inches. A suggestion would be to add another strap to the rear of the seat to keep it from slipping out of the rubber clamps, especially in a capsize situation. Is there any reason that you did not use the rubber clips for the front bars?

    • @acadventures7799
      @acadventures7799  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks David! I just took it out Sunday and initially the ride height took a minute to get used to but it is fine. I posted a quick video of me pedaling across the lake and besides the small adjustment of balance the pedaling got easier from the higher position. I would say it’s probably 30% easier from higher seating position. I can hold it at 3.5 mph for long periods of time without gassing. The hobie is a pretty stable hull. The location of the front bar of the new chair was right on top of old mounting location of old seat. When I drilled a pilot hole it went into where the old mounts screwed in. I would have to bore it out even more and the well nuts wouldn’t seat properly without some extra cutting. I have a carry handle under the seat that a previous owner installed. I will throw a strap on there to the rear bar in case of a roll over. That’s a great point! Thanks for the feedback!

      One other thing is the paddle clips are a hard plastic and not rubber. They snap in and do not come out real easy. I heard about people saying the rubber version of these paddle clips not being the ideal clips to use so I went with the hard plastic ones that yak attack makes.

    How’s the seat holding up? Any issues. I just purchased a 2012 Outback for $800 dollars without a seat. I bought the browning turkey chair that some folks recommend but may return it because the rudder handle is a bit far to reach. Do you have to extend your arm completely to reach the rudder handle? Thanks in advance for answering my questions.

    • @acadventures7799
      @acadventures7799  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Micahel, to be be honest i have never had one personally. The seat placement is about 4-6 inches behind the normal location. Just by a quick search it appears that it would fit but I cannot say for certain. It would be a very tight fit. The rear bar sits a few inches to the front of the rear scupper holes. I hope this helps. I would measure it for you but i sold the kayak a month ago. I cannot say if its worth it but this is a cheap mod for comfortability.

    • @acadventures7799

      Charles Donaldson it’s a change of the center of gravity for sure. The hobie hull is very stable and it’s like riding a bike once you get used to it. When I river fish it’s no issue for me at all. When I’m in the ocean I put outriggers on
