    That's a great idea, one could even go further and put outriggers on (that can be lifted whilst rowing, and dropped when stationary), if the seat is too high, for more stability - I'd prefer it higher like you said, that storage space right below you is gold if fishing for a couple of hours. That said, I'd also put smaller pool noodles, cut shorter, on the armrests for more comfort, and perhaps even soften up the seat, and add lower back support - the possibilities are endless !

    Great idea. Way better than paying 200 bucks for a jackson seat. I hope Hobie decides to change the seat on the outback.

    That was a great build and how to. I too have been trying to find one of those walmart chairs, like they have in the 30 miles out video, with no luck. I just bit the bullet and ordered a Jackson elite seat that should be in this week, to fit in my outback.

    I have one of these with a sail and outriggers. I am going to build a seat for sure. I had a hip replacement a few years ago and it makes it very uncomfortable using what came with the kayak. I looked into getting a seat with a decent backrest from Hobie and they can run you up to $600 plus. Thanks for the video but I an going one step further and getting nice armrests for the chair I have in mind.

    I place a seat cushion on top of my seat, it set me up high a dry but not too high.. The original back rest still works fine and it is comfortable. No tools required..

      Linda Bedore That sounds like a good solution to my problem of having the Hobie Revo seat bottom scrunch up as slip back after boarding.

      ***** Jerry, I came up with another idea to keep cool while kayaking on a hot day. I adapted PVC to receive a golf umbrella to fit into one of the holes for the wheel kit. I used it last weekend on the Colorado River above Lee's Ferry. There was little wind so it worked perfect.Linda

    Great idea. Thanks. I'll use duct tape inside the pvc to act as a dam for the epoxy

    great idea! so much that I came across a similar chair for $1, so I had to try it. turned out good, but I was a little bit too far away from the pedals. I just stowed it and went back to the old seat and was on my way. were you able to get enough adjustment out of the pedals to make it comfortable?

    • @deepfriedking
      @deepfriedking  9 років тому

      Shaun Kelley not really had to move them all the way back, may just modify the chair again so it sits directly over the old seat area. I'm short so I was thinking it was just my legs

    Use 3/4" sch 80 pvc and pin with a screw or rivet. No need for epoxy.

  • @insaynbcr

    Why not keep it simple and just slip some plastic tube over the aluminum chair tube, and just add a stainless screw from both sides of the PVC "T's" into the aluminum chair feet? It's not like it has to be a structural project like a bridge.

    • @deepfriedking
      @deepfriedking  10 років тому

      You could do that, I just used what I had available. I wanted the bridge to control horizontal movement and prevent the leg from breaking off. Also if it fell into the water it may float long enough to grab it since its water tight.

    Can you still reach the mirage drive and rudder control just fine while in this seat?

    • @deepfriedking
      @deepfriedking  10 років тому

      yeah, had to pull the pedals back a bit and adjust seat forward and it works. I have short legs so if you're 6 foot you won't have an issue. Does feel a bit top heavy though.

    It looks nice, but I'm not sure why you'd want a $15 seat in a $3000 kayak.

    Good video with everything well explained. I'm going to modify my Hobie Revo by adding a Hobie I Comfort inflatable seat but first I'm going to try a "Wood Bead Seat Cover Massage Cool Premium Black Comfort Cushion" from Amazon: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DZ54I7I?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=od_aui_detailpages00 for $17.90. The original seat bottom scrunches up when I slip back. I'm hoping this wood bead seat will keep that from happening without it becoming an aggravation itself.

      ***** that is a plan, been looking around for some kind of water proof foam to soften the ride so to speak
