Removable Bench Vise Mount

- This is a very easy project that anyone can do. All the materials needed for this project are 24" of a 2X6 and 3 short dowels. This is a very inexpensive way to mount a vise very securely, but also gives you the flexibility to remove it when you don't need it.
This vise mount was inspired from a video done on the Wranglerstar UA-cam channel. If you do not know the Wranglerstar channel, check it out, it's probably my favorite channel on UA-cam.

Wait, you made a vice that you need another vice to mount to????
I'm a bit confused.
Well, okay, if you have a full shop at your disposal and some really bad dance club music..I guess..
I always turn on four hours of trance music while i am doing wood projects
I have learned cutting and building my own designs for decorative painting can be a real challenge. Some of my favorite projects call for more than my 2 hands to assemble. I now own 3 Worx WX051 tables & love them. I've had zero problems at all. For me it is especially nice for these to arrive ready for use. Not having to be bothered with anything more than removing the table from the box unfold and stand it on it's feet to use it immediately is excellent . I greatly enjoy how sturdy my tables are, while so light weight to fold closed and put away using just one hand. I don't know how it will be long term or for rough handling. I WORK with each of mine but handle with care. I am happy to report though 2 of my tables are several years old you would never guess it to see them. For me Worx makes my life more enjoyable .
You totally screwed one capability of the vise, which is the ability to clamp something vertically. You needed to have the immovable jaw clear the edge of the table.
beautiful work, thank the gods for youtube, i would have not thought to use my vice to hold my vice, i get millions of ideas from this stuff, i don't even remember my life b4 the computer, i had an entire wall of CD's and a few boxes, vynal records, DVD's , cassett and VHS tapes, my god, now i have all of that and more stored in a 3 1/2 " X 4" X 3/4" box, the PC is amazing
Very nice. If you desire to hold longer items in the vise you might consider mounting the vise so the static jaw overhangs the front edge of the mount.
+PKCPA69 I considered that, however, the base of the vise would also have to overhang the wood mount and I just didn't like the look of that. Still, functionality should probably come before appearance. But if I have something long I probably will just use my woodworking vise. Thanks for the comment.
Have to agree, but its an easy fix. Remove the vise, flip it over and shorten it with the table saw. You'll loose one dowel, but that won't make a difference with the dado glued.
Great video and informative, but please don't loop such horrible music.
What are you on about? The music is awesome, especially if you've taken a few ecstasy pills like i have.
+Stevo C
Cat piss is also "awesome" on ecstasy pills.
Just excellent and inspiring. Well done.
I ran across this by accident, I have a old vise and a buffer/ grinder that I was wondering how to make a removable mount . Now all I have to do is build a wood vise that on the end of my bench, I like the craftsmanship. I found a old jack plane in my father in laws shop and a small hand plane. I like the touch with the dowels , that will last forever.
+Howard Yarborough Thanks, I hope this idea works for you!
Really like your work room equipment!
Great job. Do you by chance have a video or a better shot of the clamp on the bench you put the vise in? I'm considering something similar.
Good video. Interesting to watch your technique and thought process to solve what could be understood a a simple problem. It is clear that you take great care in your work and have respect for the wood and what you turn it into. If this is the patience and skill you employ in a creating a "simple" piece, we can only imagine the dedication you invest in your work. Thank's for sharing.
Pardon me for using the mute button to silence the inanity......
Yeah that music is fucking horrible. It would probably be tolerable with a dose or two of Molly but otherwise... no, just no.
Yup, it's fucking gash
ya man, you need something a little less manic , try some pantera , or slayer
First thing I thought of. Scrolled to comments and Bam. So true, moronic annoying music. Perhaps he made it and is proud of it.
Nice workshop, horrible music
Great idea, wish I watched this before I drilled holes for my heavy duty metal vise in an heirloom wood worker's bench.
Muito obrigada
Interesting idea I'll incorporate it with some adjustments Thanks!
Did you have any comments from n the central location of the glue joint in relation to end vice orientation?
Very well done. Thank you.
That was a dado' board with another board glued to it with three holes that you made a 10 minute video out of. ;)
What you say is true...
All card-carrying "woodworkers" have to be able to justify the outlay of cash for all the expensive hand tools. Hence all the extra steps when a dado and lag bolts would have sufficed. And the teeth cringing music was to help forget all the money invested in pretense.
fantastic vid production.
Oh to have all the right tools and know how to use them!
very nicely done. only change I would make is to use some type of threaded insert along with machined lag bolts so that the vise has no chance of pulling out of the piece. any reason why you didn't do this, considering you went above and beyond with the rest of the build?
So.. you need a vise to mount your vise?
Hay Mate great build video i need to make this for my machine vice so i can mount it to my wood vice hey any chance you can post a build video of that cool drill press table that's very impressive mate thanks again take care
Dude, awesome video, thanks. The music is kinda... energetic, huh? :)
Simple and excellent, what type of wood that you are using, is it pine wood or hard wood?
Well done!
Thank you!
Good concept but it looks like you mounted the engineers vice too far back. The static jaw should extend just past the edge of the table (and wooden base mount) to allow large items to be clamped vertically, maybe it does when turned 90 degrees ? Good editing and well filmed -
I mounted a square tube on the frame under my work bench, then mounted my vise on a steel plate that I welded a smaller square tube to the plate. When I want to use vise, I slide smaller square tube inside larger one.
Very useful video...
Paired with the most headache inducing, annoying sounds I have ever heard in my life.
No shit. Couldn't get 15 seconds into video
Yeah OK Seth! When you got done with this I was like yeah, but how will anything ever conquer this design? Really? Did you ever stop to consider how the bench vice industry might respond with a prebuilt crappy solution built over seas? 😬 We need more people doing the good works in their native lands so that the love gets spread and shared for all to enjoy. 🎉
I made one of these about 10 years ago. It took me less time to make than it took to watch this video. Mine is not as pretty... but it has lasted for 10 years, so I guess it's OK.
BTW, I also use the bench hooks for my miter box and shooting board to do the same trick
Plus I made a mini router platform that works similarly.
i'm seeing alot of commentary ond the background score, dude, kraftverks, (working with your hands), is just a kin to rock and metal , manic, meth laced, extacy just dosen't fit with wood working, a lot of guys use it tho, but i saw one comment that was spot on, you control the volume , own it, great line
Screws? You maybe shoulda used countersunk bolts going through the entire thickness of the base to make that vice really secure.
kill the "music" track...please...
Tone down the music so that it is “light background” and then add voiceover. You were obviously enjoying artistic license in the editing of this video, and that’s great; however, if you keep wasting subscribers’ time by not getting to the point quickly enough, you’ll never grow to the mega-subscriber level that I think you want. This was a very, very simple project that could’ve been shot in 3 minutes. If you want me as a subscriber, then try to respect my time. Keep up the good work. I see huge potential in you.
tortured by the music!! OMG!! LOL!! Otherwise, very interesting idea.
Yeah but ....You have a big nice vice to clamp a mount for a vise. Pretty nice if you have that setup. Also looks easy when you have those nice tools. Nice.
Nice ideas and you have a very nice Workshop. I've got to say though buddy that music drove me nuts😩
You should build a push tool for your table saw
Couldn't you just put the saw in the vice that holds the other vice?
Great music - but I'm also home alone and it's 11 pm on a Friday night. Now where did I put those Jello shots.
04:24 This is completely nuts. You did use a pushing stick before, right?
It looks worse than it was, the cut was 6.5". Don't worry, I still have all 10 fingers haha.
Thanks for watching!
Ok - funny angle.. Take care.
Ok, you need a vise to use your removable vise? I only have one vise that I'd like to use.
I need 2 of these. How much?
+Chris Denton It's not for sale if that's what your asking. However, you can get these vises fairly cheap at flea markets and yard sales. Then all you need is a few dollars worth of 2X6 and you can easily make this removable mount. Thanks for watching!
Please why the noise!
I was excited about your project until it turned out that you were mounting a removable vise in a vise.
Just countersink the holes of a 2x12 board about 12 inches long and bolt the vise on to the board; works fine. Just tighten the bolts as needed.
All that work and then use that washer size?!
a vice in a vice?
Hello that's 2 vise. Start from the first one
Damn bro! Insane craftsmanship!!
Thanks!
Now make the reversed T shape stand to store it upright.
How can you not love wood shop?
Your video isn’t so bad on mute. I’m not sure why you book matched the construction lumber. The heartwood on either end is now a mirror image, multiplying the likelihood to cup or bow in one direction by two. Art direction is good. On 2x playback speed. Keep it up friend.
So, are you saying you don’t enjoy the music or the video speed pacing?
YA!!!! Wood working on MDMA, just like high school in the 90s!
Nice workshop and video. Hand placement during miter saw and table saw use made me cringe.
Jaws need to extend over the edge of the base.
THE MUSIC AHHH!!!! MY EARS ARE BLEEDING!! MAKE IT STOP!!
I can see you’re a young budding craftsman. Much success. But geez are you trying to torture us with the music? Is that what ya call it, music? Muzak? Haha, change that will ya!?
Needs louder music.
I really feel this whole video coulda been done with alot less steps and 33 seconds max
PUSH STICKS..
PLEASE build a couple of push sticks.
-- You have 10 fingers... keep them ALL.
I liked the music... The no vocals was good
Looks like I'll need about $3000 worth of power tools to make this thing...
i hate the music learn to talk instead of using music - you want to connect with your audience!!!
Agreed!
Yeah all you need is a few feet of lumber and three dowels....
as long as you have the $80,000 worth of tools to make it with. Look at you and your high-end everything. You are very good at woodworking, no doubt, but don't say anyone can do this. Hardly anyone can afford the setup you have, not to mention you need a professional grade carpenters bench to make this mount relevant. I cant wait to have a setup like yours, or your dad's or uncles or whoever's setup you're using.
+Grimsby Imp i actually completed my bench last night! Wish i could show you pics. Its 12ft6in long, 8ft standing area and a 4ft sitting area. The top is made out of solid core doors from 1967, the thing weighs probably 400 pounds or more completed. Took me all friday night, and from 9am-noon Saturday. The thing is a beast and all i used was a miter saw for the lumber, circular saw to cut the doors to size (used one door as a jig for the other, vise versa), a drill, a square, and two clamps. You are 100% correct, the big expensive equipment is nice, but hardly necessary.
What’s with the insane background music? I mention merely because I plan on using your advise, but having to listen is distasteful....thanks
Music is too soft
Great craftsmanship, but overkill for a simple vice mount.
A vise In a vise
First step, have a shit ton of tools.
You definitely have some skills and some cool things in your shop but that Vice holder ain't worth a shit I rip that thing off that wood in about a week I guess if you only do woodworking that'll work
Sounds like a “raver “
Many thanks for your vice advice. I'm just wondering why so many are mounted on the LEFT side of the bench ??? Are most workshop folks left-handed ? Anything to do with political persuasion ? Surely it's neither of these. Is it more practical in some way on the left ? Mine is mounted at the RIGHT hand corner of the bench. It has a swivel base that makes it quite versatile. I have 2 criticisms: the vice would have been better placed so that the inner jaw is away from the edge of th bench. and I felt your hands were too close to the table saw blade. My advice is to use a wooden pusher (is that the name?).
Ditch the fake music. Good vid otherwise.
What on earth made you think that people wanted to listen to that noise when they were watching your video??????
Never have I been so thankful for the mute button.
Definitely overkill. Save your production time for something more worthwhile.
I made like five of these in eight grade wood shop for the teacher.
interesting video, simply irritating music. ouch.
Should be called "How to mount a bench vice in your bench vice" and the music should be shot.
Become a machinist!!!
"...a very easy project that anyone can do." IF you have $5000 worth of shop equipment!!
WTF... I CANT STAND THIS MUSIC IM DONE 10 SECONDS IN.
Nice workshop, and both vices are solid, but the garbage music is awful.
The music hurts my ears. Who listens to that crap?
Music SUCKS!!!!
Looks like Great work , idea etc. Dont ever put this kind of lame irritating music in you're video's, couldn't, wouldn't watch, because of the music. Explain , talk about something, pointers, methods whatever. You ruined your video
