- Removable Bench Vise Setup. A project that allows you to mount this setup to the bench and insert your bench vise when you need it but remove it easily when not in use. Several setups like the one on my vise could be used to mount any number of tools for easy access.
I ended up shortening the 2 X 4's on the vise setup so it fit a little better on the shelf.
Great idea! I’m going to use this for my bench grinder, vise and maybe my drill press.
Thank you!
I misspoke... At 6:15, I said that the 2 x 4s on the vise were 2 feet long. That's incorrect. They are 2 feet (the depth of the bench) plus the width of the 2 x 6 that I mounted the vise on. (the distance that the 2 x 4s extend beyond the front of the bench. So it would actually be 29 1/2" in my case. Just make sure that you cut them the right length. Sorry about the mixup.
Hi. I am busy putting together a 4 way workbench with a 1,2m x 0.6m worktop containing centre fixed saw, fixed router on right and enter- changeable planer, jigsaw to the left.. Obviously no space on the top for fitting a vice. Thanks for sharing your idea. I have a similar vice as yours and fitted it same way as per this video. It works perfectly and is easily fitted or removed. Much appreciated.
Would be perfect for a bench top grinder as well...maybe building one soon.
Thanks for your comment... I didn't see it until now.
Great idea…thanks for sharing. I’m going to incorporate this into my bench and make a second deck for my belt/disc sander. Then install deep drawers beneath to store the vice and sander when not in use.
I really like this idea...thanks for sharing.
Good idea. more compact design than the mount to big square piece of clamped down wood.
I just made all the parts and have to mount the unit now. So far so good. Thanks for the great idea!
This is a great idea and exactly what I am looking for, well played sir!
Thanks...
Excellent! I'm thinking about your rid also with a grinder and a drill-press. Ty.
Well done....
Thanks.
I thought about storing the vice maybe just turning it up side down but then it would stick out. I think you could build a second rack and shorten the vice attached 2X byes so you could store it under the bench.
thats awsome . really good idea. im gona make one tonite so cool
Thanks Travis... I was out of town and just saw this now. Good luck with the build.
This is a nice idea. Thanks for showing it and explaining.
Like the idea about the vice too.
Wow, what a brilliant solution...Very easy to make and ideal for people who have very limited space. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for your positive comments, Mike. I appreciate your kind words and I'm glad you liked the video...
Move the 2x4 that is at the front edge back 6" and put the vice in upside down for storage?
Yours is a great idea. I would also slide-in a 4x4 leg under the vise 2x6 (to the floor); to use a sledge hammer with that vise!
if your looking to dave space underneath , you could probably use angle iron padded with 1/4' luan, the 2X' ack as a dead blow, it won't make so much ringy noise , and absorb some of the shock, i think i'll try your way, that sucker has to be heavy though
i saw 1 guy had single a truck hitch set up , but there was too much play in the set up for me, maybe if he used 2 it might make it more stable, i like your though, you can wood really snug ,and still be able to get it in and out, wood is a bit more forgiving than steel
I too have a limited space shop and am about to reclaim the top of my mobile bench that my vise is permanently bolted too. I had an elaborate design for a wall fold down. Much like a "murphy bed". But decided to check some UA-cam's. There are some great ideas out there. Yours is my choice. Very easy. Very efficient. Very cheap. Totally effective and dependable. Thank you for posting / sharing! 👍
This is the best solution for a removable bench vise mount that I have seen yet! I like the idea below to move the front 2x4 on the bench underside back 6 inches to store the vice upside down under the bench, too. Videos (& their associated comments) like this are what make UA-cam such a great place for DIY. Thanks for sharing this!!!
build a small floor platform and put 2x4s around the edges so you don't roll off for your chair to be at the right height. Pick it up when your through using the bench and lean it against the bench to get it out of the way. Just an idea.
Great idea. I need to relocate my vise and bench grinder. This system will allow me to do both. Thanks!
i stole this, sort of , i do auto body , so i have access to some really weird parts that we are just throwing away, so i take em, and make weird shit, i did something just like yours, but i used trailer hitches, but man is it noisy
thats a neat idea!
Thanks for sharing that idea. I might build a simplified version, mounting the vise on a 2x6 that gets inserted between two 2x4s.
I know it's been awhile since you posted this but I appreciate the knowledge!
Dont normally comment but loved this idea too much not to say thanks and great idea!
Awesome! This is a perfect solution for my own workspace layout. Many many thanks!
Great idea. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for the positive comment. You're welcome...
Well done Nuno Portugal Best Regards
Well done brother !
Chow! Wunderbar! Ditto!!!
i like how people call these things "hacks" if you were working for incra , bosh , kreg, dewalt festool, it would be called an "all in one ,modular tool system" or something like that, all of us should pattent the shit we invent, then we could be makin a half mill a year, or better, alot of the things i've made are better than comercially available crap, the word professional just means you get paid for your job title, it dosen't mean they're any good at it, i would buy it
I saw your comment on another vise mount video. I think yous seems easier and more practical to me. I do have a large show with three rooms. but always looking for space saving Ideas. I am also going to use this like the comment below for a grinder. Nice video.
Thanks a lot Howard... Thanks for watching.
I will use this idea in my shop. I'm going to investigate using it for my vice and my grinder. I use the grinder for woodturning gouges but it's in the way at times. Thanks!
You're welcome. If you have wall space you could make cleats on the wall and store them that way. I don't have any wall space, so mine are on a shelf. Glad you like the idea.
to much talking
Michael Venditti Too few o's. :-)
