Loving all of your videos and ingenious solutions to small-shop problems. All the folding vise needs now is some kind of retention system for the star knobs, so they can be left in the vise board when in the folded-down/ stored position.
Very nice. I'll have to give it a go too. One thing I'd suggest though is that when you drill into the bench top for the threaded inserts I would drill all the way through. It would make it easier to clean out sawdust and debris by letting it fall through.
Well, this is a darn clever idea! And, I’ll use it, by golly. If the bench had dog holes or t-track it would be even faster to secure the vice and get rid of it. Still, really brilliant, thanks.
Good idea and video. I did something similar for both my Bose and my 2 wheel grinder. I didn’t make the slide though. I put the vise on wood as you did and also my grinder on another. I lined up four holes the same in both the wood bases. Then inserted four threaded inserts into my workbench. Also used knob bolts. Just place whichever I want on the table screw it in and wala, secured!
That was very good, same as ur box joint jig. I made ur box joint jig it works very well I only use 3/4" Sewood so that's all I made it for. Again very well done Thanks
I think I'm going to make one of these, with a slight change longer t track frame and hinges on the 90 degree from vise base so can fold and slide in saying against bottom of workbench out of way. Thanks for the inspiration and great video
Excellent. I have a similar situation in my shop; my vice is for a bit heavier use, so the method I used is a bit more robust, but very much the same general idea.
New subscriber - I love your ideas, builds and videos. Thank you! Could you turn down the music though? Makes it really difficult to watch when I keep having to change volume between talking and music parts...
Nice project. I am planning my next workbench and you gave me an idea or two. Only one comment. The strings from your hoodie are a potential hazard. Especially when working around the table saw.
Vielen Dank.
i like the idea, just curious on how those hinges and joints are holding up, now that it's been almost 2 years since you posted this, i always worry about that kind of stuff breaking , and falling on something expensive, like my foot, vise's are very heavy, please let me know, i'm looking for a solution to the same problem you have,,,, no space
Sehr gute Idee!
So have you used your vice with any steel pipe and used a pipe wrench to really tork down or break loose any pipe that is difficult to break loose? Have you used it with a 2 pound shop hammer to flatten any steel round stock? Just wanted to know if you put it through what a shop vice would go through.
I too have limited space and find this an interesting idea. However, I'm concerned about the weight of the vise on those hinges - how is it holding up [31 Oct 2019]?
this is the exact comment/question i was hoping was in here, and had been answered. i was thinking it would have been nice to lock it in place when stored away somehow, that took the weight off the hinges.
Wonderful build. This is only the 2nd of your videos that I’ve watched. Because of the first, I subscribed. And both have been top notch. I’m hoping-praying actually-that your additional videos that I plan to watch don’t make me suffer through a soundtrack as punishing as the one you chose for the ‘vice clip’ offering. It was truly awful. But just so you know…….I’m not a quitter!
Well done & so useful ! ---- As a novice woodworker but in the health field, I have never liked any loose-fitting clothing or with strings dangling from them, when around any machine with moveable parts. Please, zip in your sweatshirt draw strings when working around tools!😔
@@ISIMPLYBUILTIT Further to that, it might be an idea to have a couple of nut inserts on the underside of the bench which you could screw the stowed bolts into, this would take the strain away from the hinges too.
Or, alternatively, thicken the board (say, 12 mm Ply, & expand the slipway - that'd be enough to employ longer screws/fixings, the weight differential would be negligible), Anthony ?
Parabéns pela ideia, eu estou precisando fazer uma adaptação destas na minha bancada, acredito que além de ficar ótimo com a morsa, pode ser aplicada a mesma ideia para o esmeril. Abraço aqui do Brasil 🇧🇷
..... However, inadequate clothing can be VERY DANGEROUS in a workshop !!!! Those hanging LACES over turning machines are.... yeeak !!! Thank you for the video !! But KEEP SAFE Please !!
Fantastic solution! I have a question. Will the weight of the wise overload the hinges when it is under the table? It will probably break them. Thanks!
Very nicely done!! This video was done in such a manner as to allow those of us viewing to try and replicate your work. I have a question...Are you concerned with the weight of the vise as it is stored under the bench hanging? I was wondering if its weight might possible be too much for the hinges to hold it. Thank you and also thank you for allowing us to subscribe to your channel! Bless you sir!
Thank you man. No i was not really concerned. Because the screws are loaded on shear and not on traction. That means the weight will be hold by the screws and not by the wood. And such a screw in plywood holds more as we think. To mount the whole construction under the table top, i used many screws. By the way, the vise weighs 13 kg.
Good video so far but I had to stop and comment on the music track because it is not level with your voice track. I have to turn it down because the music it's too loud then up again to hear your voice. Hope this helps
great build but wouldn't the router have made short work of the hinge recess and PLEASE , lose the music, so annoying , thanks for posting from Garry in the UK
Thank you. Maybe that way it would be gone faster, but i'm not so good at freehand routing, and at this time i haden't a router table. In future videos there will be another type of music, just quieter.
my boss showed me something, playing cards make very good spacers , shims, they are all exactly the same and you get 54 for a dollar, they are also very durable
And...you drilled thru the bench top, most of us trying to find a solution not to. ;) All in all not bad end result but as other said - drop that type of music, please. How about all of us chip in and buy this guy a simple router so he can give his chisel a bit of a rest? :-)
You are a blooming GENIUS!!
Utterly brilliant! Thank you for posting.
Very impressive. Amazing chisel work for the hinges!
Very good idea...very nice...Thank . Norbert.
Thanks
Man. Your voice is spot on for the Zec. You sound just like him. Oh, and cool vise, very well done!
This is an awesome build! Could do without the music, tho.
Thanks.
In newer and future videos are no music anymore.
@@ISIMPLYBUILTIT You could sing your commentary. What could go wrong?
Agreed, the music is distracting and can barely here him speak.
Que genial idea !!, buen trabajo, con su permiso la implentare en mi taller.
Great project and well executed. It's always nice to see the finished item at the start of the video, cheers.
Seriously, I could do without the loud music! Otherwise....nice build. :)
VERY LOUD MUSIC lose it
You gave me a really interesting cue because I changed Work Bench and I did not know where to put the vise. Thanks a very good idea.
Top Work ,good Idea -
think i will copy this
Great stuff....except for the music.....annoying gain/loud/soft.

hi
do you have a link to the counter sink you have (2:45, blue bosch drill) ?

Let me understand the thickness you have on the piece where there is the vise is equal to the thickness of the worktop or has a double size? Thank you

Nice job, put rubber o-rings on the bottom of the bolts and they will stay attached to the bottom of the vice holder when it is stowed
That's indeed a good idea.
@@ISIMPLYBUILTIT Further to that, it might be an idea to have a couple of nut inserts on the underside of the bench which you could screw the stowed bolts into, this would take the strain away from the hinges too.
Great idea but the short screws in the hinges are a possible weak point. I would have put bolts through perhaps
Hmm, maybe. It is a heavy vise. But I don't see the room to put the screws any further into the plywood without it protruding. A third hinge, maybe?
Or, alternatively, thicken the board (say, 12 mm Ply, & expand the slipway - that'd be enough to employ longer screws/fixings, the weight differential would be negligible), Anthony ?
