Saw them live outdoors in Dublin the year this was released. A vintage year for me. Hanging out with best friends that have long since emigrated. Long sunny carefree days as singletons. Brings a tear to the eye looking back. In my 50s now. Can't believe how quickly time has passed. And can't believe that U2 are still together and touring in their original guise! Sigh. Happy days.
This takes me back to all those years ago, I got free tickets for a U2 concert at Dublin's Croke Park, I had no interest in U2, I just thought I'd go, as it might be a good place to meet a girl, and it was. He sang this song, and I swear, he seemed to be looking at me and I got the delusion he was singing it to me personally. I'm sure others get that at U2's concerts as they are one of rock's great live acts. The following week I bought all their albums released to that date. I still go to their concerts.
U 2 . The unforgettable fire . 1984 Ice your only rivers run cold these city lights they shine as silver and gold dug from the night your eyes as black as coal walk on by walk on through walk 'til you run and don't look back for here i am carnival the wheels fly and the colors spin through alcohol red wine that punctures the skin face to face in a dry and waterless place walk on by walk on through so sad to beseige your love so head on stay this time stay tonight in a lie i'm only asking but i... i think you know come on take me away come on take me away come on take me home home again and if the mountain should crumble or disappear into the sea not a tear, no not i stay in this time stay tonight in... ever after, this love in time and if you save your love save it all don't push me too far don't push me too far tonight tonight tonight...
The 80s were the Best Days Of My Life. I Saw this Tour in Houston, Texas and it was a Memorable Night with My Husband. If Only I Could Go Back in Time.
I hear you, the best times...U2 made us here in Ireland so proud. They are legends. My brothers loved them but died in their 30s from heroin....the scurge of Eite.
A brilliant band at the peak of greatness! My favourite U2 track by far. The heavy bass line is superb. So well produced. A stark reminder of a bygone era in my early life! Unforgettable!!
Every fire that blazes within itself has its own intension and preferences, which in turn make us ourselves. Nobody should be able to extinguish this way! Live in freedom and use this fire! It can never be forgotten.

This is quite possibly my most favourite song of all time and makes me realise why I love U2. Especially the chorus. The chord progression mixed with the piano, strings and bass line; for me it's like standing on the rooftop of a house in Japan and seeing the lights of Osaka or Tokyo fly by. It's what comes to mind when this song
I'm 54,saw them live in 1987 at s.e.c.c. in Glasgow,Scotland.Couldn't believe when they played this live,it was amazing!!One memory was after the gig i had two of the Edge's guitar notes constantly ringing in my ears for the next day or two,it was odd.Great gig.
Such a beautiful song. Was on this camp site last weekend. Some DJ couln't restrain his love of this song, so he played it at max volume at 3 a.m. I was sleeping, but was not mad to wake up. I had goosebumps all over...all time classic!
I remember the day i heard this song , my skin had goose bumps and i couldnt stop singing this , it was amazing the first time i heard it and remains just superb .
I was only 14 when I first played this album and it was a a musical turning point, like a bomb in my head going through my Ramones, Cars and Doors ears and swiftly killing or finding a place between them in 1984. A great record, probably their best.
This is just amazing. It brings me back to Hampton VA in 1985. We convinced our youth leader to make the 5 hour drive twice in one night. I’m going to look for those pictures I took on a camera that was snuck in! It was my first concert and it made all of us believers!
The trumpet sounds, I'm homeward bound. Wasted so much time, I was scared and I was blind. My mother came and had much to relay, I cried for weeks, my past so bleak, I begged her to stay. There are debts to be paid as was relayed. The ax is sharp - one’s heart of hearts. The deed is done we stand as one. Thank you for the beautiful music, so generous of you to share and many a bruised soul it will certainly help to spare. You reflect the light ever so bright, thanks for helping me to regain my sight. My soul is spared because you shared. Thank you.
Your words(Heart/Soul) Eternally flow. You've literally made my sad day glow. Thank you for lifting my spirits with your lovely, beautiful, and everlasting feelings/emotions..... God Bless🙏 Dale 12/22/19'
3:03 So like a year ago my Dad always picked me up from school and we would listen to this album, whenever this part of the song came, we played it with air instruments, holy cow this song is good!
I am totally with you.I used to listen to this song while doing my high school..seems like a life ago..anytime I listen to it it just sends shivers down my spine
From their best yet largely unrecognized album. (Yeah, I had the vinyl.) They thought so, too, but sadly pursued less experimental efforts from then on.

(A similar thing happened when David Byrne and Eno teamed up with the B-52s with Mesopotamia, also amazingly overlooked, without the depth but no less creative.) Back to U2: every song other than "Pride" was a creative departure. It really helps to search for the lyrics, as they're very hard to understand, especially "Promenade" and "Elvis Presley and America." "Bad" was second in popularity to "Pride," and I love it, too: the slow crescendo and the unexpected yet completely appropriate chord change near the end. Could say more about the others, but will only say they all deserve repeated listenings. "An Unexpected Homecoming" sets the prophetic, visionary tone, and the challenging songs after that go deeper and ask more from the listener. Still love the two popular songs, too.
Sicuramente una delle più belle canzoni degli U2. Intensa e matura. Mi ricordo quando comprai nel 1984 questo album indimenticabile. Gli U2, in quegli anni, erano ultraterreni.
30+ years later this still is my favorite U2 song; the music and lyrics pierce my soul; yeah it's deep, especially when you consider most the music of that era
Wow, very good actually. Very beautiful job of mixing so many great clips of the band at the precise moments of one of their best songs! Keep them coming!
Probably the BEST song ever... by ANY music act!!! Love these guys. My first concert was "U2 The Unforgettable Fire" on April 18, 1985 at the Worcester Centrum in Worcester Massachusetts. One of the highlights of my life!!!
Truly Moving.....This Particular Song sustained me in a time of true isolation. It is so beautiful, erotic, and haunting that it made me realize my soul was much deeper than I at first thought it to be.
This is the very first U2 album for me to hear and i first saw this original video on TBN of all places. Had no way of knowing that they would become my second favorite band of all time. Been a fan since this LP. The first song for me to hear was Pride In the name of Love. Am so happy that they are still together and putting out great music and taking a stand against the wrongs of this world. Great job putting the video together
Hello "KC" ... you know who you are. You introduced me to U2 back when the album came out. We would play this cassette in my car on our way ... we'd park near the old bridge and walk out and sit on the outer planks, our legs dangling over the edge, hundreds of feet above the river ... or when we went wine tasting, everywhere we went those months U2 always came with us. A time long gone but never forgotten, same as you my dear friend
My favourite u2 song I am 56 this year and this song still is great loved the 80s wish I could go back in time and stay there.

One of the most underrated songs. So bloody good!!
Surely one of the most underrated U2 tracks....
In 100 years from now teenagers all over the globe will hear this for the first time and say to themselves... HOLY FUCK HOW GOOD IS THAT! Timeless u2
Bono's voice..so beautiful here.

Heard this in the early 80's, listening to this now takes me back in time. Truly timeless!
Timeless
This song alone already makes up for all the misery we go through and makes living worthwhile. Pure beauty and probably unrepeatable.
Yeah me too
I'm really happy when i listen to this :')

This song is among their best!!
From their best yet largely unrecognized album. (Yeah, I had the vinyl.) They thought so, too, but sadly pursued less experimental efforts from then on.
Explain !
By their own account, as well as Eno's and Daniel Lanois's, Unforgettable Fire was intentionally their most experimental and thoughtful effort, musically and lyrically creative, not aimed at commercial success, with only one "hit," "Pride in the Name of Love," a Great song but not the artistic experiment that was the overall intent of the album. (A similar thing happened when David Byrne and Eno teamed up with the B-52s with Mesopotamia, also amazingly overlooked, without the depth but no less creative.)
