Navy SEAL Blasts Jugs With Recce Rifle At Distance

  • In this video Jason shows the effectiveness of the Frogman Tactical 14.5" Recce/Battle Rifle. This rifle was created as a multi purpose tool for short range, CQB, and other typical SOF operations, with longer ranges in mind that are not normally seen by the standard AR systems.
    Jason and his son spent 2 days on the range setting up a few rifles.
    Day 1: Rough DOPE
    Winds: 7 mph cross wind from the East (Cross wind)
    Results: Beyond impressed with this setup
    Day 2: Fine Tuning and Testing with higher winds
    Winds: 13-17 mph gusting winds from the East (Cross wind)
    Results: Performance was more than expected with such high winds
    NOTE: Please excuse the wind. No matter what we did, we could not overcome 13-17 mph winds for a few parts of audio.

    I'm glad someone has finally done this. When I was still serving I was able to consistently hit targets at 600 meters (about 650 yards) with an SA80.

      Ya but those are bullpups with 20 to 25 inch barrels. This is an SBR with a 14inch barrel. You get much greater velocity out of a 20inch barrel than a 14inch barrel. With standard m193 you can get 3k+ fps out of a 20 inch barrel

      @@TheWeekendShooter308 I am aware, I'm also well aware that the official maximum effective range is a very conservative 300m with suppression out to 400m. The now disused LSW variation having a longer barrel and a bipod was accurate out to 800m, it would probably go farther but the SUSAT only alowd for adjustment to 800m. I honestly don't know how far I could of used the SA80 as I've never had the opportunity to fire on a range longer than 600m

      @@ianmills9266 The newer MK262 MOD-1 round is very effective even out to 800. It’s a very nice round, especially for these “do-it-all” RECCE builds (13.7 and 14.5).

    • @ianmills9266
      @ianmills9266 3 роки тому +1

      @@aventador832 I'll have to take your word for that. I've not used anything other than NATO rounds. One thing I can say is the one time I used American rounds they didn't cycle the weapon properly, mostly due to the SA80 needing a higher port pressure than the m4. I found that out after, with a report that British 5.56 NATO can damage the m4.

    Thanks for taking the time on a windy day, whether or not it was intended, to show the capabilities of a 5.56. I had young Joe’s who would bypass 300 yard qual target on windy day because they didn’t believe in their capabilities. I guess additional training would help but not any ranges with that distance around here. Awesome shooting.

    “An art that I haven’t mastered yet.” This right here is so representative of all the SEALs I’ve met, and as I live in San Diego I have met a bunch through cycling. Everyone knows SEALs are totally badass, yet most, at least the older ones, are so humble. Even the less friendly ones I’ve met haven’t come across as arrogant or full of themselves. Just very matter of fact. But most have been very friendly and unassuming.

    One caveat I would add on building their DOPE is to chrono for the conditions and build their cards by the season used. My variations on my recce and mk12 rifles by temp alone are huge, so please don't just use your good weather DOPE and assume that it's going to make it through the entire year. I built my cards using Applied Ballistics and I zero 4 times per year and have confirmed data for those seasonal changes. Also, RECORD YOUR OLD BORE SHOTS!!!! If you're ever relying on your rifle to do the job, you need to know what it does cold bore in those same conditions so that first shot accuracy is guaranteed. You will almost always see a POI shift cold bore vs your groupings when the barrel has been fired. Great video Jason!

      Running my BCM mk12 with Black Hills 77gr mk262 I was making hits at 825m in a class very effectively. 900+ was dropping out of supersonic and not consistent enough to work with and would require hand loads or about a 22+" barrel to maintain velocities/consistency.

It was very solid at 800 but I didn’t want to push it and then pretend it was more than it is if I got rounds on target. The wind was gnarly this day so once I get a chance again I’ll see if it will go further consistently.

You can find people who push this envelope to the ragged edge and that's cool to say you did but probably not practical at all. 800 for a 14.5" is great for showcasing where you'd probably be using this rifle with good PID, phenomenal accuracy for 14.5! Will you run it suppressed? I've got a PWS mk114 with a 14.5 that I consistently see 1moa out of that fills my recce rifle role, but it has to compete with my BCM mk12 spr w 18" barrel.

    I agree I'd rather have a ol faith American AR/ M4 over a 762 any day ,but a good SPR will devestate a enemy but it's more than that when your a AR lover think of it as the sheep dog that's tough enough to take on a wolf or two not easy but most definitely possible a little smaller but courage enough to never quit the 556 is the sheep dog the 762 is the wolf

    i saw in the video that u were looking at the scope with ur left eye and i was wondering how important is the eyesight to go in the military? because my left eye is much better than my right eye and im kinda concerned it might be an issue. I have no trouble seeing with both eyes open tho its just if i close my left eye i cant really see that well

    • @charlieghague
      @charlieghague 3 роки тому

      Depends on what you're trying to do but it shouldn't be an issue. Even pilots can have vision that isn't perfect as long as it's correctable to 20/20 through contacts or glasses. If you're worried about shooting, go check out some vids on cross eye dominance if your naturally right handed.

      @@ayda2876 I have but don't know anything about it. Honestly, your best option is to just talk to the recruiter. They can answer every question you have and give you options. Especially if you're worried about qualifying for a specific job. Jason also has a vid about eye dominance on this channel if you want to check that out.
