    I was a grunt in the marine corps, I never put cover on my muzzle or used the dust cover other than using it for inspection arms while drilling.. don’t use forward assist. I’ve put gazillion rounds through m16a1s and a2s they take punishment and keep on running.. lot of specialist online saying a piston ar is better than a gas tube system.. they think since they play call of duty and think they know everything.. we used to shoot iron sight on our m16a1s at 500 yards and get center mass bullseyes.. 👍😊🇺🇸

      Prior marine here, and maybe a HOG too, most marines suck at weapons handling and especially marksmanship. With rifle and pistols… but generic regurgitated training results in a lack of growth in skills. A lot of rounds through the M16A4, M4A1, HK416, and the M110, they will run and run and run as long as you keep them well lubricated. Forward assist, never needed to use it. 300 meters is a pretty close shot in my book. Takes very little effort to hit people at 300. Especially with a red dot or any magnified optic. With a precision rifle that is .5 MOA capable, headshots at 500 yards are boring easy and repeatable. (When you arent being shot at of course).

      Thank you for your service!
      You sir remind me of several men who influenced me when I was growing up! One was a neighbor who was in the Army. He was a very good shot to say the least! Another neighbor got the Navy in my bloodstream! He was also a very good shot and taught me a lot of stuff! Both of these men served in the mid and late 1960’s. There was also a teacher in middle school who had a certain way about him that had served in the Marines. He was my middle school coach and he earned my respect! First thought I had to earn all of these men’s respect!
      I grew up hunting and shooting. After I came home from the Navy I had to give up the hunting because of my lower back pain and right knee pain. I had gave up a lot after I was involuntary medically discharged from the Navy. Now it’s all I can do to sit up on my on and stand on my own. The first few steps are the worst!
      I am not complaining about what happened to me! I knew I wrote a blank check for everything up to including my life when I took that second OATH! What bothers me is the price my family has had to pay and continues to pay for my decision.
      Mom told me to beware of what I wished for! She was oh so right!
      I am a much better person because of my service in the Navy! My wife asked where her husband had gone when I came home? Where was the man she fell in love with? He is still inside of me! Yes I changed that much! It doesn’t matter what I did nor what anyone else does in the services! We all served our Country! That is all that matters!

    I was a grunt with 3/8 Lima company which is now deactivated. I carried the SAW for my first 14 months there, then was promoted to team leader and carried an A-2 with a M-203 attached and never had an issue with iron sights and was a 4th award expert. I loved my M-16A2, but I love the new AR’s these days. Semper Fi!

      @@frogmantactical I forgot the range component to your question. I was re-watching this video because I always pick up more info the second, third... time around. Since the Marine Corps Rifle Pistol Team has men shooting to 850 meters with irons, I'm thinking that with your setup, you could do that easily. The question is the effectiveness of the round for the type of target at that distance. Regardless, unless I was in a Buffalo, I wouldn't want you to shoot at me at that distance. Besides, you might cheat and pull out a Lapua or something. :)))

    Before everyone in Texas starts making, or buying their own suppressor's make sure you read though the bill. It will have to be made in Texas, certain materials will have to be made in Texas, & engraved "Made in Texas." You will also have to somewhat get it approved by the attorney general. There are a couple of videos discussing the actual details. The paperwork is supposed to be a way of covering your ass. Hopefully, more suppressor companies will be moving here, or starting up before September. Either way God bless Governor Abbott, all of those that helped him, & God bless TEXAS !

    To answer your challenge about the trigger, based on the visible trigger shoe, I'd say it's a Geissele. Knowing you want to push out to longer distance, that helps narrow the options. I'd assume due the tactical nature of the secondary optic, you wouldn't select a straight match trigger. So my official guess is the Geissele SSA or SSA-E trigger. Was I close? lol

I shoot rifle left. sidearm right, so all of my ARs have identical controls set up with a Bravo Company ambi charging handle, Colt ambi safety lever (from Arms Unlimited), and an Arms Unlimited ambi magazine release. This longer range build sports a 1-6x FFP Primary Arms scope and a Magpul bipod. My normal carry is a 10.5" with a Primary Arms 2x prism scope. Now back to watching the rest of this awesome video! As an army ranger it would be your ass if you didn’t have a dust cover. It’s weightless yet provides great security against crud of any form getting into the most important parts of your gun. Friends, use your dust cover. Why not have a forward assist. It’s great to have that function to drive that bolt home in a tactical or non tactical environment after checking to see if there is a round in the chamber. Weightless.

    Just a suggestion if you're looking for an alternate mount for your RDS, and since it looks like you're using an ADM Recon scope mount, look into the Valhalla Tactical Hanger Offset mount, replaces one of the ADM clamshells with a 45 degree offset mount built in. Plates for all the different mounting footprints, and should work just fine on the left side. And it's less than $70 shipped with your mounting plate of choice. Only caveat is due to the way it mounts, when you zero the RDS, your L/R becomes U/D, and U/D becomes L/R, no hill for a climber.
    Disclaimer, I'm just a consumer, not affiliated with Valhalla, but I've been running one of the Aero version hangers on a .308 build, pairs an RMR and a Primary Arms GLx 4-16x50 FFP scope and I'm very happy with how it works and is holding up. You also have the option to run a riser to get the glass clear of the turret, I use a 10mm Reptilia, and it's still more streamlined than a pic rail mounted offset. A riser would solve your turret problem with your existing setup too, for that matter.

Im hitting 65 and cant run worth a shit. Im either going to be wall positioned for security or rear guard while group un asses the area and not expected to catch up. 🤔 must be sure the group has time to really get away. And the QD plate is side saddled for the Gen 1 instead of facing the receiver on the Gen 2

    • @frogmantactical
      @frogmantactical  3 роки тому

      It’s not about gaining anything. There’s simply no need for it for what this rifle will ever see.
      What would I be gaining with it based on that? Nothing. Therefore it’s 100% irrelevant.
      From that, its merely a justification to have one. If I lived in a city, worked in an office, didn’t camp, or go off-road for any reason, It’s like saying I will never use a 4x4 truck for the lifestyle I live but I’m going to go ahead and get one.
      There is truly no benefit, just my justification of why I need something without being realistic.

    I dont know about other average shooters but,, I'm novice at best and 300 yards on a quality optic is easy for me.
    My AR10, in the right hands is well over a 1200 meter rifle. Well beyond my skill. I had to put nice everything in it. My ar15 has a value Burris fixed x3 prism on it. Again 300 is nothing. I can mag dump on a 6 inch plate at 100.
    Once a rifle is broke in with a good site that holds zero... its pretty easy. Gotta have a good barrel. I wish I could use regular reflex sites. I have a pretty bad estigmatism. X1 prisms are my favorite to get the reflex style eye relief. It's still not quite the same but it works.

    • @frogmantactical

      I agree. I’ve taken out of the box 10.5” bipolymer AR’s out to 640 yards in the prone with a $200 Vortex Sparc red dot.
      Unless you are talking precision, it all falls in the shooter for the most part.
      I like those optics. It’s hard to choose an optic. So many options that are useful. This is my first LPVO and I find it harder to work with but doable with some practice.
      Have a great day and God bless.

    • @frogmantactical
      @frogmantactical  3 роки тому +1

      Add wax on the outside of the bolt/upper with the bolt closed, so it prevents sand/dirt/mud from entering the bolt/chamber area.
      When/if you fire the first round, the bolt moves backwards and the wax breaks off.
      Even with a dust cover this is used by some.

    Love the rifle and your real world in site. Don't really understand why you wouldn't have the forward assist if it has a spot for it. My thought is it could be helpful so why not have it. I personally never had the opportunity to have a secondary in the service so I couldn't rely on that ( definitely not an operator). But I did have to use my forward assist in a messed up situation, so I was glad I had it. Would love to hear more reasoning on this. Maybe it could be another video. Thank you for your service and sacrifice for our country.

    • @nobodynoone2500
      @nobodynoone2500 Рік тому

      It's a very small set of trade-offs in either case. I'll remind you that Stoner, the designer of the AR, said they were useless and only added originally to army-spec ar's because they were used to being able to slam the bolt home. Stoner asserted that if racking the bolt was not enough to seat the cartridge, that forcing it would do more hard than good, and that the user should instead check the gun. But I usually hear it boiled down to these 3 arguments these days:
      1. Weight (yeah there's expensive lightweight ones at a cost and/or durability tax, but the extra meat on the forging is still there)
      2. Gets hung up (yeah there are low-profile ones no bigger than your deflector)
      3. Extra thing to break (yeah, never heard of one failing either)
      But the minimum you need to get the job done is often the best. If you bring your rifle to point 100x a day, the oz start to add up, and I'd bet being a lefty makes it less intuitive to use as rarely as it is needed. You can just use your thumb on the bolt to seat any well-made cartridge if you're being super tacti-cool stealth. Suuuure, if it's hot from sustained fire, use a non-poly glove or any handy implement that won't melt, but why ya trying to be stealth after sustained fire? Anyway, I have an FA, but have never needed it.

    • @coryj1409
      @coryj1409 Рік тому

      @nobodynoone2500 Well, I'm not humping it 20 miles anymore, so I rather have it than not. My rifle at the time was basically a bolt gun which was my fault but during the invasion that early on we didn't have the dry lubes. It would cycle but it would not go fully back into battery. But when rounds are coming in you got to do something. So pushing that little button was a big deal for me. I would definitely be able to live without it now my rifles are clean and lubed and live in a clean house.
