Olympic shooting is about consistency. It’s not “can you hit the target” it’s “can you hit the ten dot sixty times in a row.” These are people bowling 300s one after another.
Sideways hanging oreo, not even a double stuff, nailed it on the first shot. Humble Yusuf is won the well deserved Olympic silver medal, but Scott won the gold in my heart.
I don’t think I could, but there is a chance. I am a High School Wrestler (About 4 years) and I’m about to be Varsity in my Junior Year. But myself being in the Olympics is Debatable
When the camera was split behind him / his target, it looked like his grouping was miles away. But then when he does a close up, you forget how small the target is. That's still some good shooting Tex
Especially considering the caliber/recoil difference. The background doesn’t have much contrast either, but maybe that’s how “they” do it, too? I wouldn’t know, just ASSuming.
fun facts: In Sweden, you must score at least 45 points, with the target at 25 meters (about 82 feet), on three different occasions each year at a certified competition to be able to apply to buy a 22. pistol. There is no guarantee that you will be approved once you apply. If you fail to do so when you renew your license, you lose your license and you must either sell your weapon or destroy it.
On the Ear Protection mishap: I have a story relating to this. I had just gotten my Smith and Wesson 586 and shortly after, a set of nice Peltor ambient sound ear protection. Normally, with my old ear pro, If I needed to go to the bathroom at the old range I went to, I would take one ear off and let the other one hang there before going in. I did the same with my nice, ambient sound playing ear pro with one crucial difference: I could hear everything out of both ears. Yes, the left ear was slightly off since that was the ear which was protected. I entered the anti-chamber of my range, at which I was the only person shooting at that time, and made my merry idiot's way to my revolver, loaded six rounds of .357 magnum, and pulled the trigger. As the world faded away, my right ear did its best impersonation of the most popular letter in the English language, the letter E. For several minutes, my ear would not stop informing me that the letter E was quite excellent, and above all other letters it could ever impersonate. When the ringing finally stopped I was at home, in bed, and very, very annoyed with myself.
I did that with an old Enfield that had been rechambered in .308... Someone had drilled their own brake into the end of the muzzle. Not only did I become intimately familiar with the letter "E", it felt like someone shoved a hot needle through my eardrum.
Physics teacher here... Looking through a pinhole makes the image look sharper. Its scientific! In fact if you lost your glasses and your eyesight isn't insanely bad, making a small pinhole out of your fist can help you see (or if you want better clarity). That said if you have perfect vision, whether naturally or with glasses/contacts, it probably won't help much of sharpening what your focusing on. But another thing it also does is the exact same as a camera. Seriously take your camera your using and take two photos, one with an fully open aperture and another one with it small. Depth gets blurred with a large aperture whereas with a pinpoint you can have the gun and target both in "relative" focus. The issue is though, how do you normally shoot? Two schools of thought, focus on front sight letting target being slightly blurry or focus on target letting sights be slightly blurry. Either way, if you switch to using the an pinpoint aperture to bring them more into focus, you aren't use to it.

I learned a few things, 1. The targets are way smaller than i thought 2. After seeing Scott who is certainly a better shot than me, i realized I’d do MUCH worse at this than i thought i would.
As fun as the story is, please remember he wasn't shooting solo, it was a mixed doubles event. And his shooting partner also lacked the myriad of accessories, and she was also higher ranked than him. Not to take away from his accomplishment, but the memes only tell half the story.
He won the silver medal because of his partner Yusuf Dikeç's score was 151 while his partner's score was 146, and his opponents won by getting 149 and 148
The panic that set in thinking Scott was going to lay down some suppressing fire on those Turkeys, only to have him jump out of the grass with his best "gobble gobble" really encapsulated the best of this channel.
As someone who enjoyed watching olympic shooting, you are the first person to actually show how small the target it. The professional sports casters completely skipped over explaining or demonstraiting target size.
02:05 ... Scott, I was a member of the USA 1988 Olympic Shooting Team. You are NOT allowed blinders that block light from the sides as you are wearing. The reticle and semi-opaque block for one eye are legal as long as it does not magnify (must be 1x). But, YOU own a punt gun, so you make the rules for your videos!
Irony: With this video up there is a Short being recommended on the right of my screen that features a chinese olympic shooter using the same rig as scott, including the side blinders - lol.
Mate, why would you lie about something that is so easily fact checked. You weren't part of the '88 Olympic team or Olympic team in any year, but good on you for trying to get some internet points
I love your passion and enthusiasm. But you got to calm down. It's just a UA-cam video from a guy who Entertains us with crazy guns and remarkable table throwing skills.

@@JvS1711 oh No No it is for sure but the gun part always seems like if a guy that hunts, or as said visits the shooting range regularly or someone who is in the army, would also be able to compete. A person that never held a gun most certainly wouldn't.
@@ManiX207 that doesn't make ANY sense if you think about it for a few seconds. If it was as easy as you say, every single competitor would be receiving perfect scores every time. And obviously that doesn't happen, and if it did they would just make it harder. Unless you mean to suggest that everyone who's ever competed in Olympic shooting has less skill than your average bloke at the range, which is an even dumber thought.
Whilst he was nowhere near the Olympic shooters in accuracy, I was actually very surprised and impressed. That's an impressive group, especially for 357 magnum. Turns out Scott is more than just a guy who blows stuff up with gargantuan calibres.
Uncle had a 1,000 acre gravel pit in Upstate New York and he was the first person I ever went hunting with when I was 9 years old. He had Three guns that he hunted with. A 54 caliber muzzleloader, A. Winchester 94 with iron tights, And a model 70 in 30-06 with a weaver 4 power scope. He had a square steel Target hung up on a tree 100 yards away that was only like 6 in tall. Every hunting season he would load up each gun and take a shot at that piece of steel and I can't remember a single time where he missed. That's how he made sure his guns were sited in. Sometimes he would show off and shoot with a 30-30 over his shoulder backwards with a mirror. Never seen him miss. He had a little 2-in barrel k-frame 38. S&W that we would always play around with when we slept over there as teenagers. He could ring that target with that tiny little snub now police pistol and he really seemed like super human to us. I miss him.
Your uncle sounds like an awesome guy. Have you ever read the book Unintended Consequences by John Ross? Your uncle sounds like he could be a character in that book.
Scott really is a normal down to earth guy like the rest of us. He watches the Olympics, gets the same thought as the rest of us, "huh, wonder if I can do that." And then goes out and films it for the rest of us to enjoy. Such an awesome guy
I love how that .357 has more features than my truck. "On top of that, it's got a moon roof, heated AND cooled seats, a backup camrea, and automatic parallel parking" amazing how they managed to cram all that into something only 2.91 pounds.
They used to do Military Rifle shooting, it was done during the 1896 Summer Olympics Someone needs to petition the frenchies to bring it back, I think it would be interesting to see how different countries' service rifles stack up in an international competition
Considering that the French Olympics have already finished, I don't think it will do much good to petition them. Besides, the USA has an unfair advantage... they're constantly practicing firing assault rifles at small targets. Usually children in schools and colleges, but apparently sniping is becoming popular... they like to use politicians as targets.
The host country can add some sports to the competition. It's USA's Time for the next Olympics. But you didn't chose to add some shooting competition. You picked lame sports like lacrosse.
He is a good shot, and I applaud him for that. But at the level of Olympics, they work at another level. They shoot at a target smaller than the center of a penny 60 times in a row!
You have obviously very limited experience of precision pistol shooting - A moderate club level 10m pistol shooter would consistently be shoooting 540/600 or better on that target. Many of those same shooters would also be making similar scores on the 50 Free Pistol target or the 25m Centrefire target - all one handed, open sights.
Scott needs to look into SDI and there business model. How do you have an Online Gunsmithing School that has no tools for students to use? Gunsmithing is a trade skill and therefore should involve time in a shop. Furthermore, they prey on GI bills for an Associates Degree that has recognition issues within the industry. Many UA-camrs have dropped SDI for this reason.
I skip the ads. I didn't know it was online only. That's a waste of money. You can get more education reading service manuals. It's kinda the same with certs in the IT world. I have a few, they mean nothing.
It's the same reason why "ITT Technical Institute" went bankrupt and why we no longer see the commercial advertisement for it on TV or social media anymore;because people had gotten suspicious about their questionable business model started doing some investigating, and had discovered that ITT Technical Institute was really nothing more than a scam.I think doing an extensive & thorough investigation;into SDI's business model & and practices, will reveal SDI as being the same type of scam that ITT Technical Institute was.
I watched a few videos about it recently. They literally have you watch UA-cam videos for the classes, and the tools they send you are junk (like a $22 set of Neiko files).

@ShugoAWay Scott might not be Ian McCollum from Forgotten Weapons, but he's handled quite a variety of guns on this channel and does seem to do basic research on anything he demonstrates that he doesn't have practical experience with. Yeah, he shoots goofy targets with large-bore weapons... but I'd rank Scott above a guntuber like Demo Matt (whose videos I love, TBF) for overall educational value. Brandon Herrera edges Scott out though, since Brandon goes into things like weapons mechanics and design...on top of videos recreating assassinations and "community service" like the Gary Plauche video on Father's Day.

The government of turkey straight up went around asking if anyone wanted rep for pistol and Yusef just casually shrugged and took a day off work to earn silver. Zero sweat off his brow
If you look back through the history of competitive marksmanship there are some truly bizarre grips, stances and things, which were considered optimal for shooting accuracy.
Yup. It's not even necessarily that they "were considered" as in "used to be", plenty still are very stable. There are a lot of whacky stances that are super stable but aren't allowed in competition so you don't see them unless an old timers wants to put on a clinic Not that they're necessarily banned by name, just most shooting sports dictate general rules on your stance with no room for the really weird but extremely stable stuff
In most of these disciplines the orthopaedic grip is accepted but cannot extend to the wrist In “free pistol” it can actually surround the hand like a glove In metallic silhouette big bore they’ shoot large pistols 200m or more and need enough momentum to knock over the steel plate, so hot 357mag, 44mag, shortened bolt action rifles with a ruger charger type grip They often shoot from a sitting/laying position with the gun resting on their calf, outside of their leg is creedmore position, inside of the thigh is dead frog position Gotta cover your leg with leather if using a revolver, so they still shoot that way
@@kevinfidler8074 Don't they still do that at silhouette shooting? It's a long-range pistol shooting competition with animal-shaped steel targets and the furthest distance is 200 meters. The competitors lie down in a really weird stance and support their revolvers and pistols with their thighs (with leather protection in the case of revolvers)

8:37 that gear isn’t for performance it’s there to counter eyesight deficiency’s. The blinders are for if you’re not right eye dominant and the iris isn’t for magnification it’s basically acts like an aperture in a camera to shift your DOF so you can focus on the target. The other bit of gear you see is the lens and that’s just a perception lens that you can position so the centre of the lens lines up between your eye and target because in glasses the lens’s distorts at the edges.
For context, the Turkish shooter's ex-wife has his dog, and after medaling he said to the cameras, "Sharon, if you're watching this, I want my dog back."
watching most/all of the popular guntubers, i feel like scott is probably the best shot of all of them. i would like to see a collab video though where they have a real shootout and see once and for all.
I've had a few goes at 10 m. air pistol. That is indeed the standard target that you see in this video. You get 60 minutes to fire 60 shots with the highest possible score being 600. One thing that I can tell you is that a 2lb. pistol gets very heavy after a while when you are precision shooting. My scores were in the low to high 200's. The world record is a staggering 594. Just think about that for a minute. The only way to achieve that is to hit a 7/16" portion of the target 54 times with another 6 shots hitting the 9 ring. Incredible.
I said it in another post, if Scott could keep up his 44 out of 50 for 40 shots (lower-level tournaments) or 60 shots (higher-level tournaments), his result would be 352 (for 40) and 528 (for 60). That would be very respectable results, although it wouldn't even nearly get him to the German championship, let alone the olympics. The qualifying number for the German nationals was like 570 last year. And then, 40 or 60 shots is not 5 shots. You can make 5 good shots, but then do it again eight or twelve times in a row. With the 40-shot series, the pros often shoot more than 400 because the inner ten-ring counts more than ten, it goes up to 10.9 for the inner X. The fact that the rings drop to 594 for the world record shows you how much these additional 20 shots are eating at your accuracy.
@@maximilianmustermann5763 You know a lot more about it than I do. I've played the game only a few times. That's enough for me to know that anyone can string together a few good shots. As you point out, doing it one after the other in a timed event is another thing altogether again.
I've been binge watching videos since I was out of the country for several months on military duty, and it's interesting to me how often Scott forgets ear pro. I think it's happened at least five times in the last 8 months

This comment has a very Douglas Adams feel to it
"ever heard of the letter E?"
ROFLOL not nice...been there with an angle grinder....cutting into a big old gas bottle ...man my ears hurt
@xman9354 I got that too lol
I did that with an old Enfield that had been rechambered in .308... Someone had drilled their own brake into the end of the muzzle. Not only did I become intimately familiar with the letter "E", it felt like someone shoved a hot needle through my eardrum.
I wasn’t paying attention and went without ear protection with a .40 caliber there was a vibration in my head for a few days

@@gallendugall8913 they used to lay on their back and balance the barrel on a foot when they shot steel targets at long distance
Yup. It's not even necessarily that they "were considered" as in "used to be", plenty still are very stable. There are a lot of whacky stances that are super stable but aren't allowed in competition so you don't see them unless an old timers wants to put on a clinic
Not that they're necessarily banned by name, just most shooting sports dictate general rules on your stance with no room for the really weird but extremely stable stuff
The UK has big walking sticks duck taped to the butt,
So they Can't be concealed
Looks ridiculous turning a pistol into a Rifle
In most of these disciplines the orthopaedic grip is accepted but cannot extend to the wrist
In “free pistol” it can actually surround the hand like a glove
In metallic silhouette big bore they’ shoot large pistols 200m or more and need enough momentum to knock over the steel plate, so hot 357mag, 44mag, shortened bolt action rifles with a ruger charger type grip
They often shoot from a sitting/laying position with the gun resting on their calf, outside of their leg is creedmore position, inside of the thigh is dead frog position
Gotta cover your leg with leather if using a revolver, so they still shoot that way
@@kevinfidler8074 Don't they still do that at silhouette shooting? It's a long-range pistol shooting competition with animal-shaped steel targets and the furthest distance is 200 meters.
