The Second Best Submission from ADCC - BJJ Analysis
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 лип 2024
- Surprisingly this is not a Gordon Ryan video or a video about leg locks. It is actually a video about the Choi Bar. The Choi Bar was used a ton throughout ADCC 2022 by Craig Jones, Eoghan O'flanagan, Ffion Davies, and Dante Leon to name a few. It was also the primary strategy of Lachlan Giles during ADCC against Kade Ruotolo and Yuri Simoes. This video gives a nice outline of the choi bar, and if you want to know more I recommend you check out Lachlan Giles's course on SUBMETA.

Purple belt breakdown...Don't hate - Фільми й анімація
I'm not going to lie, your channel has made me want to focus heavily on nogi. I was religiously a gi guy (lapel guard fanatic) but, the amount of detailed analysis of the nogi world that's out there just doesn't exist in the gi world.
lapel is just too fun when people start to get frustrated. lol.
Thanks my man! That is exactly what happened to me. I trained for like 5 years in the gi then got exposed to high level no gi and haven’t tied a belt in years haha
😂
maybe you want to check the old videos of bjjscout, its right up your alley
@@pato4everplus he is the OG for sure!
Awesome video! I'll see if I can hit a choi bar in my next rolling commentary. Will definitely credit you!
Recently saw your “how to get better” vid, look at that doing the HW!
Greetings Jordan from Atlanta, GA. I watch your video as well, oss..
You're the real MVP!
I used to train with Choi Choi. One of the nicest and strangest humans you’ll ever meet. And it’s true. That bastard got that move on everyone everyday at every training session.
😂😂😂😂
Man Robert Degle and Lachlan Giles have been pushing this so hard. It's awesome to see this move (and Lachlan) get the respect the respect they deserve
Lachlan is the man! 🙌🏼
Lachlan didn't hit this at ADCC, Craig Jones did. Surprised that wasn't mentioned but I guess in a video sponsored by a certain grappler's company you have to promote that grappler over others. Also since when has the respect for Lachlan Giles or this move been overdue? Ever since that silver in the absolutes he's been a bit of a legend.
@@elijah8970 A lot of people did it at ADCC
@@elijah8970 actually Craig hit a cutting armbar not a choibar.
Lachy has a made a lot of innovations on this move that he didn’t quite get to show at adcc but you’ll see in time.
@@prandz420 bro pls. Is that distinction really the hill you want to die on? The set up was in a basic choi bar position, and the tap came suddenly before CJ could even shift over to a hands on wrist grip. I can respect the innovativeness of Lachlan for sure but let's not get the facts twisted about who applied the technique successfully in ADCC. I'm not even sure of the point you're making here.
Never knew that I could force my opponent to give the cross face and then the Choi bar is there... Awesome stuff 👌
I know it blew my mind too! Thanks for the comment and the support 🙌🏼
Sick complication, very well organized and A+ narration. Loved it !

Thank you! I am glad you are finding this video helpful. I appreciate the comment and the support 🙌🏼
Just saw a Video of the b-Team about Craig's submission with the Choi bar this ADCC. And Of Course, my favorite BJJ channel dedicates a whole video to it...
Excellent addition to any half-guard game ... Even if it only gets you the second-fastest finish - Gordon showed again your beloved leglocks are king :-D
Doing a Study on Leglock entries from Halfguard at the moment will surely add to the dilemma system. Great Analysis as always!
Oh nice I havent seen the b-team video but will check it out! Glad you found my video helpful! Thanks for your support Simon!
Thanks.. I will never unhear the penalty bop now
Haha what is the penalty bop?
Rafa Mendes has been using this for a while too. Check out some of his arm bar content. Whenever the opponent reaches for the face, the over the top arm bar (choi) is available. Rafa also continues the roll at times to end up on top.
Awesome thank you for this comment! I will check it out!
"and that's how you can start to pass people's guards by using jiu-jitsu". Jake, your videos are still so damn good, and getting even better from a jiu-jitsu analysis standpoint.
Haha thanks my man! Appreciate the support 🙌🏼
Good stuff!
Thank you! Glad you found it helpful! 🙌🏼
Oh that's what its called!! Thanks for the video! You made another great content, keep it up! Oss..
Yeah I didn’t know what it was called before ADCC either. Thanks for the comment and the support 🙌🏼
In my opinion, your diction and the way you talk improved compared to your last videos (when I mentioned the uptalking). Congratulations and keep the good work, brother; props to you from Brazil.
Awesome thank you I appreciate the follow up comment. I was thinking about it a lot when making this video. Admittedly I didn’t think about it much when making my new video for Tuesday so I imagine that one will be more of my natural tendencies
oh Man this has been the Classic Sean-Bar (one of our Black Belts) setup for over a decade, shame he retired from competition a long time ago, it will always be a Sean-Bar to me, and a distinct reason why I often forgo crossfaces in certain guard arrangements.
Haha it does seem to have a lot of names and is a very good addition to your game. Like you said if anything it makes your opponent think twice about that crossface
🔥🧨 as usual
Thank you! Appreciate the comment and the support 🙌🏼
Great vid. Please do more on the seated back v that head’n’arm control thing you mentioned briefly. Really interesting. I’ve been having the exact issue of people titling as I sit for the back and it’s been annoying me ha
Awesome will do! Glad you found it helpful. Not sure if you have seen it but I have a 3 part series on the back. This is the first video here. ua-cam.com/video/gPjciPQkwnM/v-deo.html
The primary difference between a choi bar and a arm bar seems to be the entry. It's always great to see nuances of the game come to the forefront of everyone's attention. I'd love to see something like this for chokes.
Exactly! I like it! Hopefully in the near future!
Another great video. Thought it was funny how many adds and codes you have but I'm not mad, get your money
Haha yeah when they come knocking gotta answer the door to pay the bills haha but it is getting a little much for sure. I hear ya!
@@LIMIBJJ nah lean into it, it'll be funny and make sure you can continue putting out fire content. As a side note, since I've watched and practiced the tips from the kipping escape video I can hit it on almost everyone
@@ryanbaker5931 right mom man I appreciate it. Yeah it’s just kinda the nature of the beast but once I get that BJJ fanatics sponsorship I’m going to chill for a little I think haha.
Hell yeah man that is awesome to hear. The kipping escape is ridiculously good and am happy you found the video helpful
Another great video. Make sure to mention when your One Time Contribution button becomes active on your website!
Thank you! Ok will do. To be honest I have just been in jiu jitsu mode and the website has taken a back seat but I will be sure to let you know when I revisit it. Thank you for your support!
Lachlan mentioned Choi bar briefly in his Open guard series in BJJ fanatics about a year ago, he's been mastering this stuff for a long time
You can definitely tell it was a big part of his strategy heading into ADCC. I am excited to watch his new course on it
It was even before that in his Half Guard Instructional
@@AlexWehpunkt haven't seen that one yet but I've heard only good things about it
Lachlan is a different animal. He's constantly trying to game the meta and every ADCC he comes in with a different strategy. If you watch his post match interviews he seems less concerned with just winning and more concerned with proving that the new angle he's taking in the gym works.
@@thos1618 i don't think he gets the recognition he deserves as a teacher/coach. His content is much better than Danaher's in my opinion, although it's undeniable that Danaher produces more champions.
That's it....I'm adding THIS to my GAME
It is EVERYWHERE!
Love it
Awesome glad you found it helpful. Thanks for the comment and the support 🙌🏼
Could you do a breakdown on Jason Rau? Blue basement legend and very influential in pioneering a lot of the modern leg attacks many competitors utilise
You have never led me wrong jarryd. I will look into it
@@LIMIBJJ haha thanks. No better account to breakdown footage in an engaging and educational manner!
@@jarrydtuivasa-inglis7405 thanks my man appreciate the support 🙌🏼
Awesome video ! I use that set up myself from knee shield. Can convert it to a kimura grip if they turn their wrist back.
Exactly 🙌🏼
Craig has been doing exactly that since 2015 I believe. He had a Knee-Shield, Choi-Bar with Armbar and Triangle finishes kinda game before he joined DDS.
Me too. Has been an amazing attacking sequence for subs or sweeps
@@thos1618 yeah for sure! Lachlan has a video 6 years old about it. They have been doing it a while
@@nickgiannone6381 🙌🏼
“When your opponent pushes off your beautiful future kimonos rash guard “ 🤣😂
😂
If you watch Mikey in ONE recently, he plays sideways supine. This way it negates the threat of toreando by hiding the bottom leg while enticing the person to step in and make contact, when they do you’re already halfway to k/Choi/x whatever you want really.
Great point! I will check this out!
@@LIMIBJJ great videos, I love you channel!
@@Matt-gl5fj thanks Matt I appreciate the support 🙌🏼
I hit this on a student last night and made a mental note to search Lachlan's channel for some finishing details today. Then like magic this video pops up. I don't play this sort of game and in 100 years wouldn't have considered forcing an opponent to crossface me.
Haha cant teach that chemistry. That is what makes the choi bar so brilliant
Nice
🙌🏼
Eyyy I made it on the video that’s dope
Haha 🙌🏼
Mica also hit a variation of this on Canuto.
Yeah good call!
Can you analyze the Maia x Henderson match from Polaris 20?
Breaking down Maia's back control and Henderson's defenses?
I havent seen it but I will check it out! In the meantime, I am not sure if you have seen it but I have a 3 part series on the back. This is the first video here. ua-cam.com/video/gPjciPQkwnM/v-deo.html
About the chairsit, I saw BMAC teaching to put your ear to their ear so they cannot turn. Have you tried that?
Interesting. I try to put my head next to theirs but not with the intention of not letting them turn. I will have to try that. Have you had success with it?
👊
🙌🏼
Also have heard this position called the 'arm-saddle'. Great breakdown of this long-time fav of mine!
Got it. It is hard to keep up with all the names so I appreciate the comment!
what's the first best submission? Also in his last arm bar from z-guard video, Craig Jones explained the importance of the butterfly grip to connect the opponent shoulder to our chest. I think this is crucial
Haha it was more of a joke because Craig hit it as the second fastest submission
@@LIMIBJJ I'm dumb lol
@@user-uk9er5vw4c haha no no that is a good detail on the choi bar. Super important!
Can you make a video on Kade Ruotolo great performance at ADCC please? I think this guy is worth a breakdown of his game. Thanks!
Yeah maybe in the future. I dont study them too much but would be a fun video to make!
What happened to Gordon's Floating Passing system? Did the devs nerf it already? I haven't seen it used for like 2 years.
That bastard sells us an instructional then comes up with new stuff haha
love it. Whats the difference between this and a reverse arm bar?
For the arm bar I think you are referring to as a reverse arm bar the bottom person would typically be turning towards the head and the arm would be on the top shoulder. For the choi bar initially you actually want the arm bent if possible

I am mainly a danaher, gordon, and craig student. But lately I have been watching a lot of mikey and lachlan to try to mix it up, and as you said I watch competition to see what they really do the most, which seems to be k guard, choi bar, k guard, choi bar from supine open guard. I personally seem to notice while they are both really hard to pass playing this way, high level opponents just seem to keep slipping out of everything over and over and it seems tough for them to really get in a sustained offensive cycle from a supine position in no gi. Don't know if I am right or wrong about this
Yeah I am messing with this myself right now as well. Do you have any insights on how to be more sticky when playing the choi/K guard combo?
@@LIMIBJJ not at all, compared to you and what you do on this channel. I was looking to hear your input and thoughts on it.
To prevent the turtle, keep their elbow elevated on the underside
Interesting I like it!

Not overfamiliar with ADCC rules but what why Kaynan be getting deducted points in those cases you mentioned?? Couldn't be stalling could it?
Craig said it’s because he thought the crowd was on Craig’s side so they were putting a lot of pressure on the ref. It was stalling but it wasn’t really stalling. At least not 8 penalties worth of stalling
