Great demonstration and great playing! Thanks for sharing:-)
Awesome review! Thanks to make this video using a Les Paul on low gain setting (because on reviews, people usually play a les paul and think they should use a high gain setting haha)
Nice demo, thanks mate!
I have an old 12" JBL speaker in a small cabinet that this would be perfect for. Tele, Les Paul, Strat they all sounded great!!
Wow. That sounds pretty cool. Hard to believe it's packing good tone in something the size of a candy bar. Love to hear more cleans and if it really
Feels like a larger tube amp.
I would have liked to have heard it clean too. Thanks for the demo.
sounds great :)
Hi Shane! Thanks for your nice reviews; always appreciated.
Does the headphone output have a cab simulation? Have you tried this amp with headphones?
I'm interested in a nice practice amp solution, preferably something this small...
Reagards //Per
Just got a Mojo Diamond delivered - Unpacked it and Blimey, its so tiny!!!
5 inches x 2 3/4 inches x 2 1/8 inches approximately. Very well made. Not plugged it in yet, so I'm off... Yey!
So on the clean tones your volumes were way reduced? Well wait I saw the settings so what am I asking here? I guessing it only does clean on low volumes. As soon as you increase the gain much beyond where you had ir the dirt really takes over?
Shane, have you tried the headphone out as a direct out on a recording interface? I'm curious how it will do for direct out recording.
Would this be good with a tele for good country twang? Im very much a novice, but i want that twang!!!!
I like the Plexi simulator and the rotary pedal sounds great. The USA and Canada distributors in the states are not set up to sell online...yet. A bit disappointing to say the least. Can't even find bloody prices yet.
Micha-el Cleveland what Leslie simulator?
Through a 4x12 these blow you away
I just ordered one for my music room. Fingers crossed.
Hey shane, not directly related to this video, but I'm curious to know what's on your current, gigging pedalboard right now? You get to try SO many pedals...what'r your go-to pedals in the trenches? Simple answer or maybe even a "What's on my board" video, either would be welcomed!
Sounds like a plan mate, I will shoot one pretty soon :-)
Hey Shane, I really enjoy your videos, thanks for paying so much attention to producing quality content. How do you think this amp would do with a Swamp Thang; I know some speakers aren't as good in lower volume situations? I have this amp (and others), and am looking to get a good utility speaker to work with a variety of amps for recording as well as higher volume jams. The Texas Heat seems to work well here, and I'm wondering about the Swamp Thang, at least partly due to your more recent speaker shootout with these two speakers. Thanks for your time!
@@RicardoLobomaulus No, not that I recall. Have you tried it with a Swamp Thang? I've tried it with a few different speakers, and it's quite picky as to what it will sound good with.
@@budmcnelson Really? Cause someone gave me a H B Monoprice 15 watt amp cabinet with the amp part gone. Just the 70/80 speaker and the reverb tank on bottom. Just put in a jack, hooked this up and WOW this little thing sounds great. Wouldn't change a thing. Relatively loud considering what it is. And only costs me $60. So for you, different speakers made enough difference to keep spending on this?
Hey Shane, how about a demo of this little baby on clean settings?
What do you think emulates in a best way the real fender amp, joyo preamp from other video or this hotone? Thankyou
Damn,. He left ya hangin,,,
Did you like the amp?
This? Or the purple wind?
awesome and practical amp! Can this little amp can be plugged directly to the PA or DI?
This little thing sounds really cool Shane! Which Cabinet did you use on this demo?
Alexander Guzmán López The Randall Isolation cabinet with a Texas Heat speaker in it.
+intheblues is it advisable to use a cab simulator with this amp when using it live?
Nice lil' amp. Talk about minimal extra packing space for a backup amp. :)
Do you still have that gold top? I love p90's. There just the perfect blues tone imo.
Check out the 2018 Les Paul Classic Gold Top. All 56 (P 90s, bridge, cream pickguard) on the body, but 60's profile slim taper neck. They sound phenomenal. Cheaper than the VOS reissues, too.
can i take the speaker of an mg15 marshall creat a cabinet of 15 watts and use that head?
The Amp has 5W, which will be fed into the speaker. The actualy loudness with 5W depends on the efficiency of the speaker.
Can I or should I come out the mojo speaker out into a pedal or the amp of a combo?
+Wall OfNoise Thanks.. I thought so!
Hey man! Thanks for uploading this video! I was wondering if you could tell me if you tried the clean tone using headphones. I saw in your video that without gain you had to crank it up... Do your hear it well on headphones?
Thanks!
+mariansabianhh I never tried it with headphones man, sorry. :)
+intheblues no problem! thanks for replying me!
I wonder how this stacks up against the Joyo tweed
Does this amp have pre-amp and power tubes
Which one of these little Hotones would you recommend if you were going for a Texas blues/ SRV sound.?
The Mojo Diamond is made to emulate a Fender like sound so that'd probably be your best bet.
For the price, do what Stevie Ray would have done and get both the Mojo Diamond and the Purple Mist, run the Purple Mist into an Eminence Governor and the Mojo Diamond into an Eminence Swamp Thang or maybe a Texas Heat, mic/record them in Parallel (Stereo) and let it rip like a man possessed.
Thom Vogan jķp
any idea if these are as loud as say a Champ 600 or have more clean headroom?
These amps are great there at the proper price point $100
Can you plug it straight to a PA with no cabinet?
Yes
you can do that, i once played a gig like that, and it worked just fine
This or that tiny Wangs valve amp?
I'll answer your question with a question : would you ever want to tell people out loud that you're packing a tiny Wang?
Can we use it with a 4×12 cab?
Yes
Love the p90 Paul. Why is les Paul name upside down? I know it's a lefty. but are all lefties with his name upside down ?
Michael Lopez Gibson quality control would be my guess
It seems like they use the same necks as a righty, possibly explaining the upside down words.
Michael Lopez It's a Vintage Original Spec (VOS) guitar which is how they were made for lefty's back in the day. :-)
Able195 Exactly :)
The pocket guitar amp...what next?
Did I miss something? When did the Bardens go back into the tele?
TheParanoidAndroid79 I put them back in last Friday :-D The buzz was killing me...
intheblues Single coils are awesome until you have to tame the hum in a live/studio situation. I still use them but I understand why people often give up on them.
They sounded so good last Saturday at the gig, I remembered why I have been using them for so long :-). Recording videos at home I prefer the buzz-free solution. I may try the Zexcoil pickups in there soon just to see how they stack up against the bardens. :)
intheblues In my experience, Dimarzio, Kinman, and even Duncan stacks are better sounding noiseless pups than Bardens. Bardens just sound so stale to me and a little ice-picky as well. A video pitting all these models against each other would be very welcome by most of us I'm sure.
How do you get so much gain from this without a pedal? I have one and can't get near as much gain as you. I am using it with a celestion vintage 30 1X12. Tried several different pickup types. Any idea? (Love it with pedals though! Superb pedal platform!)
I noted the same with a purple wind type.....no way to get half of gain you hear from UA-cam videos.....unless you do not boost tour input signal
most of the guitars he played had humbucking pickups..one had p90s. If you are playing with single coils, other than a really overwound rear pickup on say a telecaster, then you will get only about half the output as he is getting with the humbuckers and single coil humbucker. those single coils look like single coils with double pole pieces, but they are humbuckers. The gold guitar is being played with the front single coil and middle single coil in series, or basically a humbucker with the coils not right next to each other
In the reviews on Ebay someone wrote turn all tone knobs up full to get most gain. I don't know this for a fact yet. Mines on its way. And have a 12 " Celesion speaker cab to test this theory.
Is this brand "Hot One" or "Ho Tone"......? I am so confused!
Terry O'Malley Good question, I make a comment about that on a pedal demo that's going live soon lol. :-) I would hope it's Hot Tone but they must of got lost in translations somewhere along the road.
woulb be so funny if the company said no no it is ho tone 😅
@@intheblues an extra T and it could have been Hot-Tone
I'd mount it in a speaker cab...that way wont lose it...lol
So idea is to sell modeling effect separately inside tiny amps
how loud can these get? thanks!
Short answer: output to a speaker having high efficiency for max potential volume.
More details..
Since the output of the amp is a fixed (at a given volume and/or gain setting), the actual SPL generated as 'output' (eg. audibly through the driver) is primarily governed by, and a function of, the driver itself. Of course, each driver has a set of measured parameters of it's performance characteristics: power handling, freq. range, resistance (load), etc. However, to answer your question, the parameter which is the single biggest factor in producing 'volume level' is known as Efficiency (often referenced as 'Sensitivity'). A highly efficient speaker will produce relatively high volume levels. Typically, speaker Efficiency ratings vary from about 83db on the low end upward to 103db+ on the high end. Just as point of reference, the Eminence Swamp Thang and Cannabis Rex are rated at 102db. 103db is about as it good as it gets for a production off-the-shelf guitar driver.
Using 4 watt amp output as a comparison, a 86db driver will produce SPL of 92.
A 103db driver will produce 109 SPL actual output.
Also, please note that the output level from the amp is also affected by, and a function of the input signal level. So, if you bump your input signal up via a boost, amp emulator, preamp, etc. you will also have a hotter signal on the output side of your amp (in most cases).
From personal experience, I can tell you that an inexpensive 10W solid state amp can sound amazingly loud and GOOD if you: a). preamp/boost/shape the input signal and b). output to highly efficient speaker(s). I can make my 10Watts from my setup ring your (and my) ears for quite a long time if given the chance.
Fred Edberg ahh great info thank you
Hey, you're welcome. Hope that helps!
Fred Edberg definitely explains a lot. I've always wondered about the speakers impact on volume. well written expansion and easy to understand. you should get that stickied onto a forum somewhere haha
LOL, thanks man! Yeah, I actually do post to some other forums. For related stuff, you can check Parts Express product reviews (been building speaker cabs and posting some reviews there) and Solid State Guitar forum (non-profit forum/enthusiasts dedicated to amplification - solid state mostly, but other related stuff too). They're a great technical resource -- great guys.
Gotta run, have a great one!
PS. I wish Shane would have demo'd the Mojo Diamond with loud and clean amp settings. This little beast having an effects loop and being able to output to various loads (4 ohm, 8 ohm, 16 ohm) gives it a lot of potential! I am planning to get one soon.
I wanted to like it but just couldn't. The gain sounded too harsh. For the same amount a used Fender Mustang II would be a better choice I think, or something like a new Micro Terror of a few bucks more.
Is this supposed to be like a tweed or blackface?
Clean is a go go. Dirty is a no no [personal taste, obviously].
David For any of the distortion I generally use a pedal into the cleans and it handles it a lot better.
Levi Schubert Music
yeah that's how I like it as well.
David also sounds great if you add something like a small plate reverb to it too
Levi Schubert Music I know. I like this product.
I prefer a good single clean channel to an amp with 3 channels mostly because I like to use stompboxes to achieve the sound I'm after rather then having to use what the amp produces by itself. [my dream amp would have 2 clean channels; one for cleans and one to use as a multi-dirt section].
David I do the same thing, I use the line 6 m9 for most of my effects until i can upgrade to some nicer units but it does pretty much all i need.
I wanted to like this but to my ears it sounds unpleasantly harsh.
Cool Joe Biden pickups!
Only downside, it's easy for some jerk to steal.
Don't waste your money. I have a classic 30.i bought it used for 280.american made, all tube.
Sounds awful ... way too much gain
cbmcaixa yes but sometimes more is more.
The gain can be controlled.
