- Today Kevin is teaching you how to make ENGLISH MUFFINS! These are so easy you will never buy them from the store again!
Recipe:
1 ¼ cup warm water
1 Tbsp. Sugar
1 Tsp. Yeast
2 Tbsp. Melted Butter or Oil
2 ¾ Cups flour (Plus a little extra)
1 tsp. Salt
Cornmeal for dusting
Mix warm water and sugar in a large bowl and sprinkle yeast
on top. Let rest, covered, for 10 minutes.
Add oil and salt to mixture and then add in the flour until it is only
slightly sticky.
Put dough on floured surface and knead for 3-4 minutes. Add flour
if necessary to stop dough from sticking to kneading surface.
Put the dough into an oiled bowl and cover with a towel until the
dough has double in size. About 1 hour.
Knead the dough a couple times and then divide into 10 equalish
balls.
Sprinkle corn meal on a piece of parchment paper and place the dough
balls on top. Flatten each ball to about 1inch tall. Cover and let rest for
20 more minutes.
Heat a frying pan on low heat and lightly oil. Place as many of the
muffins in the pan as you can and cook for about 8 minutes or until brown
on the bottom. Flip and cook another 5 minutes or until done.
Repeat with remaining dough balls.

***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 3 new videos every week! Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we transition from city dwellers to full time homesteaders!
We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.
Who in the world would give this a thumbs down!! Kevin and Sarah are absolutely my favorite UA-cam channel. I love their character and integrity. They are great teachers! Their children are truly blessed to have these two as parents. Thank you for another wonderful recipe. God bless and much love!
Other homesteader “wanna be’s” who failed and are ugly and jealous.
Trolls.
Me to! They are my favorite as well! As I don’t watch tv these videos are my entertainment!
I sometimes hit the thumbs down. But change it. If I don’t care for a video, I just move on.
THUMBS DOWN????? WHO IN THE WORLD DOES THAT? JUST ENVIOUS CUZ KEVIN CAN BAKE!
My my homemade muffins rising in grandmas bowl on top of your great grandpas cabinet, cooked in a cast iron skillet, Nuff said!! 💚
Awe you all are so sweet and savory!!Blessings
Kevin, I almost cried when you said "my great grandpa made this cupboard and that's my grandma's bowl". Caught me off-guard, so sweet! Love watching. Thank you for recipes!
“You don’t like it, go buy them at the store”.....LOVE IT!!! My grandma would say “you don’t like it, then don’t eat”......amazing how everything looks good when you get hungry enough 🥰🥰!!!!
MY mama said, “Hunger makes the best seasoning.”
My Dad's favorite saying is : " what's the difference between what you will and won't eat? " answer: " about 3 days. "
Needless to say, when I grew up, you ate what was put in front of you, no complaints.
I'm thankful for that.
Love this channel, yall are great
Loved the comments of your parents and grandparents! Too many children are absolutely catered to in their food choices. Eating ONLY chicken nuggets, or whatever.
Before everyone freaks and starts screaming about their child with a legitimate eating disorder (usually early childhood eating disorders are linked to autism, etc,) Yes, I know in some cases it's a real thing. And I also acknowledge that some people just don't like a certain thing.
But, that said, if you train your children that you will make or buy their favorite thing every time, you can end up like my brother and his wife who had to make THREE meals for dinner.....one their son would eat, one their daughter would eat, and one for them. Absolutely ridiculous.
When my son was little, if we ate out at a restaurant, we NEVER ordered the kid's meal. I got what I wanted and my husband got what he wanted and we got an extra plate. Our son learned to enjoy a variety of foods very early. At home, the rule was: you don't have to eat it, BUT, you don't get something different...just what's on the table AND it's showing up again at breakfast and you have to at least taste it then.
We never had to worry about him being picky at a friend's house and he will eat anything. It's great!
This family homestead is one of the best I've watched. They both explain everything so well. Their cooking, canning and more are amazing.
Great recipe! Thank you. Will try it. By the way, another good reason to make your own breads is that even the organic breads have TONS of preservatives and other unwanted ingredients in them! Good for you!! Stay healthy!!!
We have tried their bread, bagels, and English muffins. So appreciate these videos and instruction. We will never go back to store bought!!!! You won’t be sorry for trying these.
LOVE THAT YOU PUT YOUR YUMMY DELICIOUS RECIPE AND DIRECTIONS UNDERNEATH SO WE CAN HAVE THEM FOR LATER THANK YOU SO MUCH
I agree, it makes it so much easier. Thanks for sharing.

Don't yell ...
I actually laughed out loud when you said "No one does a cooking video and says oh, that's terrible." Your muffins look great and your sharing this recipe is appreciated.
I love how informative your channel is and how you're not Know-it-alls! You don't tell people how to live their lives but just suggests another way that they can try or not. It just works for you. I really appreciate that. Keep up that great work! Much Love from MN!
Hi Kevin and Sarah, great job on these English muffins! They
looked delicious! We really enjoy your videos, you guys are really inspiring.
As a baker, I wanted to give you a little trick of the trade. A simple
technique that will make your breads, English muffins, bagels and other baked
goods taste even better and last longer on the shelves.
The technique is called a poolish, it’s a pre-fermentation technique.
You take part of your ingredients, mix them up and let them ferment on your
countertop overnight (or at least 2 hours before).
If we take your English muffin recipe as an example, you would take the
third of your flour (approximately 1 cup), add the same amount of warm water(1
cup) and a pinch of yeast, mix them up lightly by hand in a bowl, cover with a
wet towel and let it ferment overnight. It will be very liquid, it is normal.
The next day, you add the poolish to the balance of your ingredients and
make your English muffins as you would do normally. Do not forget to subtract
the ingredients of your poolish from your original recipe.
Here is your English muffins recipe (with the poolish variation):
For the polish:
1 cup warm water
1 cup flour
a pinch of yeast
Balance of your ingredients:
¼ cup warm water
1 Tbsp. Sugar
1 Tsp. Yeast
2 Tbsp. Melted Butter or Oil
1 ¾ Cups flour (Plus a little extra)
1 tsp. Salt Cornmeal for dusting
This technique works very well for bread, English muffins, bagels, etc. Anyways, I hope you’ll
give it a try, continue the great work!!!

Thank you! I usually let my bagel dough spend the night in the fridge, works well...
I’ve used this a few times now and have very delicious English muffins as a result. Thank you !
Hello Kevin, i tried making these and did it with my ground einkorn berries and boy did they turn out so good. Thank you for sharing.
we too use to buy english muffins! i couldn’t believe how easy they are to make! no more store bought english muffins here either! 🤗
Me too! I like being able to make as much or as little as we need. These make great hamburger buns too. 🙂
Excellent video! Very enjoyable with perfect instructions. So glad there was no annoying music! Just great, clear instructions, the way it should be. I've been wanting to give English Muffins a whirl!!
I have made several attempts at English Muffins (and even sold some) and this is the best recipe I have used.
Thanks for sharing. I love watching you. Your all about caring for each other. The world should be more like that.😀
I love baking too! I love that Kevin jumps in and does this. He is so right who wants machined stuff? No character. Made by hand with love the best ever! Thanks Kevin.
Ok just made these. My husband is beyond happy. I cook him breakfast every morning and these are the main ingredient. Lol We go through two packs a week. These were so easy to make and your instructions were on point. Thank you so much.
Glad you like them!
@@LivingTraditionsHomestead well they were gone this morning. Had to make another batch today. . He has been bragging to all his work buddies
Thanks for the easier recipe Kevin. I’ve been wanting to try making English muffins but so many complicated ways. This is simple and I like that 👍🏻.
I love that you guys tag team your channel. You're both so easy to watch and learn from. Thanks for sharing everything with us.
Two things about these, the recipe makes more muffins than most do and they actually look like English muffins. Great job Kevin.
Knocked it out of the park Kevin! Beautiful!!,
Yay! Baking with Kevin! I love English Muffins.
Rene Parrish I think it should become a regular feature of the channel. 😋
@@joolzmac1 I agree!!
I have made english muffins many times...I made your recipe today. Using the lo heat and
the cover made ALL the difference in the world. Thank you very much
Kevin love the simplicity of your recipes keep up the good work love Sarah and your channel really have changed our way of eating we do not home stead but we are eating healthier God Bless and Thank You both
Omg I always loved the look of this kitchen. I just needed to watch this English muffin recipe again. Thank you
Kevin I love English Muffins too but stopped buying them because they are expensive. Thank you for sharing your recipe; I'm definitely going to make these.
I was going to try out a dozen different YT English muffins recipes. I tried this one first and it was so good I didn't even bother with the others. Just so easy and tasty.
Thank you for sharing this recipe and “how to video” Kevin.. I’ve made these several times now and your right, they are fabulous! Today I got on a roll and made 4 batches.. I share with my kids and their families, and btw they freeze beautifully...I use my cast iron grill on the top of my gas stove and you can do a whole batch at once..just cover with a tin pan and it works great. We love this recipe.. Thank you for all the great learning videos! You and Sarah are the best! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for posting that you've made them. Now I'm thrilled to try them as well. Yummy!!
Update: I make them every week now....sooooo good!!
@@247KW so it’s not just me. It’s Thursday, so it’s make muffins day. I’ve taken to adding a little Italian seasoning into some of the dough for a savory taste. Great with egg salad. Cheers !
Hello from Ava, neighbor. Just ran across your channel. You are right the farmer's market doesn't have a great selection of artisan breads, especially this spring since it is closed. This is the wife by the way. Love your channel. Will make these maybe today. We don't buy any bread at the store because I make all our breads, save for the muffins. So thanks for the recipe. Bet I could throw all ingredients in bread machine just on dough setting. Arthritis stinks with kneading bread! Stay safe and healthy!!!!
You and Sarah both have such a gift for teaching. Thanks for sharing so many great videos. I’m going to go make some English muffins now!
Kevin & Sarah ... You both are a blessing to watch! And you are both talented cooks to boot! Thank you for sharing your recipe with all of us!
So excited to try this! I don't have a standalone mixer, so I love when I see a recipe I can manage by hand! Thanks Kevin
Ex baker, here ... Love the spirit, and the common-sense. These look great. I *do* think forming a bit of a membrane on the outside of your portions by lightly rolling them into dough-balls under the cup of your hand, for their second proof, would give them a lift? But then, what they gained in lightness and consistent crust, they'd lose, in charm. And folks would tell you that you bought them.
Tried your bread delicious now going to make the English muffins missed the bagel video will have to check it out and will make them as well. Thanks.
Patricia Herman the bread is wonderful
Kevin and his wife are my favorite ones to watch. Great teachers and they are blessed. I watch them all the time for new things to make.. Keep up the good work. If I lived closer to them I would love knowing them..
I keep trying to convince my 25 year old son that girls LOVE guys who can cook. He's not buying it, but I keep trying. lol I've made the crunchy bread a few times now and it is as fantastic as Kevin said. It goes great with soups and stews. It's also great just by itself, toasted, with a little bit of butter and jam or peanut butter. Oh and Kevin, nice shave and beard trim. :) I will definitely be trying this recipe out. Thank you Kevin.
It's true. I keep trying to convince my husband of that too. Not for him to get girls obviously, but because I would love cooking together with him. I really do think it's an attractive thing for a man to cook. The closest I have gotten to getting him to cook is that he makes coffee every morning and brings a cup. It means the world to me. He doesn't get why it means so much but I see it as an act of love and it makes me feel special every morning. He's been doing this since we married 16 years ago. He drives me crazy sometimes as I do him too, but I tell you I love him so much.
I realized my husband was a keeper after he made me spaghetti carbonara without a recipe. He died this summer and I miss him and his cooking so much.
@@graytart I am so sorry for your loss. Keep your good memories. They will bring a smile to your face, in spite of the tears.
motherofone1 Thank you. I have over 28 years of wonderful memories.
Some girls do, and some girls don't. Everyone's different.
Those muffins look de-lish! Thanks for sharing Kevin & Sarah.... take care .... enjoy!
LOVE THIS RECIPE!! I travel full time in an rv and this is great since I dont have a regular oven. Cant wait to make them!
Love this recipe! Thanks for sharing and I have to say; It's nice to see a man in the kitchen enjoying himself. Love you both!
Kevin, all my friends and neighbors thank you! This recipe is so great that since I started making it, everyone that I've shared them with, asks for them all the time! THANK YOU! BLESSINGS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!
I know I can trust Kevin’s baking advice because he’s willing to wear a dark colored shirt while working with so much flour.
LOL
How do I get the recipe..?

Need some apple butter on those warm morsels
What i love is that i often go back threw your channel to find things you have done and made like this recipe, and you make it easy to follow, so today I've watched the orange juice canning ( with the flash back and yes i did like the other kitchen BUT i like this kitchen as well as it looks bigger?) but its been an educational Sunday for me, thanks again
Yum! Im totally trying that!
Kevin thanks for sharing all your videos absolutely down to earth and very informative, especially in this lock down. All the best to you and your wife, Thanks from Canada.
Thank you for the recipe in your drop down!! Makes it so much easier to make them.
I can't find the drop down or wherever the recipe is....could you please share it with me? TY

Awesome video! I am 52 yrs old and our kids are grown and on their own. I was raised in Iowa and we always had a garden and canned slot of things. Unfortunately I married and moved away at 18. Living in big cities I couldn't have the garden but I have always cooked meals for my family, 3 meals a day even with working. we ate out very little. The one thing I didn't do a lot of was baking. W
With covid I have picked up baking! I started with bread, pizza crusts, pies, cakes ect. Now I am ready for the fun stuff! Thanks for this video! Tomorrow is going to be english muffins! Also I am going to try your recipe for artisan bread! Great!!!
Try English muffin loaf. It's great to toast and super easy.
Do you have this magic recipe?
@@bonnieofbluebellbarn4181 Would think it'd be the same, just instead of rolling out/dividing, put dough directly into 1-2 loaf pans (depending on amt of dough & what size pans you used, might not all fit into one. Could prob use round cake type pan also, tho slices would def. be different than standard toast look) that were brushed w/ little oil & then dusted w/ the cornmeal... Can do same on top of dough too, if you choose. Bake at 350 degrees until lightly browned on top... cool.... slice... Then, toast when ready & Nom nom, have ya some!! :) Stay safe & be well.
been making this recipe for several years! simple and simply delicious Thank You Kevin!!!
Man, I love them, and I’m going to make them. Thanks Kevin
Kevin I making another batch today. I added half whole wheat and sesame seeds. I will be doing this way again. I have replaced my store bought english muffins and store bought buns. Hamburgers and other sandwiches are on served on english muffins now. I love them toasted best. This is my go to recipe!!! Thank you for sharing.
It’s not just the missing hat, is it? You’ve lost weight ! Looking good, Kevin!
My hubby has told me these were easy snuff to make, but never have.. first time I’ve watched the process.. think I’m adding this to my list of things to make to ‘dazzle’ my grandkids when I head to their home in Alaska ..thanks for taking the time to show us how!
Well that’s it. I’m making these!
Finally I got around to making your English muffins. They turned out perfect. Egg McMuffins for us tomorrow morning. I get so much enjoyment from your channel. I’m 82 and you and your wife are a fine source of inspiration even for me. Thank you so much for what you do.
I'll take these over store-bought any day.
Thanks for this recipe--I tried it and had very good luck with it. I'm so glad I found your site and enjoy seeing how God has blessed and how you share with others.
I’ve made this 3 times now and it is on point and makes the best muffins! I double the recipe but wanted some texture so I used 3/4 cup of whole wheat flour to the whole flour mix. It was phenomenal. By far the best batch I’ve ever tasted. They freeze well. Love your channel.
Thanks. I might add a bit of rye or wheat for more flavor and texture.
Thank you for the "freeze well" info!!!
I've made Kevin's recipe a couple of times myself the last time I used his cooking directions for sourdough English muffins and they came out awesome
Hey Kevin, I just want to thank you for your video! I now make these muffins 2 or 3 times a week. Everybody loves them. Even though it is not necessary, I let the dough rise for maybe 2.5 hours, knead it and cover it again for an hour or so. The dough is so much more manageable that way and the muffins are a bit bigger. After a day at room temp. I put them in the fridge and the next day, we just cut them in half and throw them in the toaster. Absolutely delicious! Thanks again!
Do you put them in the fridge before cooking or after?
Hi Monica, I still make those muffins but now I freeze them after cooking. That way they are always like new. Take enough for breakfast out the night before. I also put egg and sesame seeds on top. Yummy!
Didn’t even recognize you without ur hat lol
There is not one video that I watched that deserves a thumbs down. Some people are just haters. I love all your videos ❤️
I love this. Much easier than another one I just watched. Can't wait to see more of you cooking.
Omg I love English muffins, thank you thank you thank you! You really are a great teacher Kevin. Lol all great cooks have asbestos hands 🤣
Making these tonight for supper- turning them into tuna melts. So far so good!
I think they will turn out awesome. All your recipes so far have been wonderful- crackers, "soy sauce", pasta sauce...keep them coming!! You both are do talented ❤️
Thanks Kevin! Have you tried avocado oil? It is a great light oil with no taste.
Tryllium T
I’m not a fan of Sunflower oil. Some say it’s not very healthy. Avocado oil is the bomb 👌
I have watched this video two times now. I buy my English Muffins and they just seem to have really gone down hill this past year. I keep saying I will make your recipe, but I am the only one that will eat them. I think when I make a batch I will share with my sister, she loves them. I can't wait to make them. I watch your video's all the time. I don't have a homestead, but my family was poor and my grandparents had farms. We raised chickens and every year would butcher a cow and a hog. My dad hunted, but most of our food came from my grandparents. Thanks for your wonderful video's and your recipes.
Made these today and they are amazing!!
I think I might make those next weekend 😋
Oh my goodness!!! They came out PERFECT! These are so easy, tasty, and quick, who could ask for anything better?! I'm 75 and afraid to ever try making them. You have just given me the best gift. Thank you thank you♡
I wanted to write and say thank you. I saw this a few days ago and gave it a go today. Wonderful new experience making English muffins. They came out great and got me thinking about making a sourdough starter and giving sourdough muffins a whirl.
Same here!
I can't wait to try this recipe, my husband and I absolutely love the crusty bread, Thanks Kevin....... I am a silent viewer, this is the first time I am saying anything......... you guys are great homesteaders, keep up the great work and the videos........ I would share your videos but, I don't have a social media channel..........✌❤✌❤✌❤✌❤
This is my goto video when I make English Muffins. We like the sourdough flavor, and sometimes we ferment the yeast overnight when we aren't keeping a Sourdough starter... the same way yeast is aged for Ciabatta. This recipe is great to cut in half for days like this where we have too much of everything left over from the holidays and just want a couple fresh English muffins. Thanks again, for this recipe that keeps on giving!!!!
"I guarantee these aren't terrible!" Lol
Today I made these and man are they awesome. Thanks for sharing the recipe...God bless you and your family from Payette Idaho
They look wonderful. In our family's tradition [England and Northern Ireland], we would cook them at a higher temp in that cast iron pan, in a wee bit of bacon drippings. Then we eat them hot. We do not use the corn meal. It doesn't seem to be necessary. We do it the same way otherwise, using a little flour. Eating them hot means the butter melts in, while enhancing the yeast flavor. We call this fried bread, not to be confused with other ways of frying dough. There is no need to fear them not being cooked all the way through. Even if they seem a bit doughy as you pull them open, they are hot enough to keep setting up. This is a treat we look forward to, at holiday breakfasts. We start by frying one piece of bacon and reserve any extra fat for succeeding batches of dough. So the temp of the pan would that at which you would fry an egg. Adjust your heat so that they cook through by the time they are browned. This will vary depending on how they are going into the pan. I keep mine less than a half inch, since they puff up with the heat. There is nothing better than to dip this hot buttered bread into runny egg yolk. These flavors just work together so well. Thanks for sharing. I hope you will try them hot out of the pan, buttered, eaten quickly and savored. WARNING: they taste like more !!! So prepare to eat several.
Making these with you today, Kevin! Can't wait!!
Hello from Minnesota I have been following your channel and love the lifestyle you are living ! I’ve made your recipe for English muffins today and absolutely love them ! Thanks for sharing all your wonderful recipes!
I have never seen bc anyone do them from scratch …so wonderful to have a homemade recipe to try Thanks so much they truly look amazing and delicious ! ❤
Kevin, you are a class act!
my husband makes those every week. I cut them in half and toast them further in a pan on the stone......so GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!
I made these this morning and they are just what I had been looking for.. The grocery stores locally do not carry English Muffins . I do not know why anyone would give this a thumbs down -- tastes good to me. Appreciate you sharing this.
Hi Kevin, I tried my hand at your muffins this morning. I believe I have done well! I took a photo but don't see how to include here. I wasn't sure if the pan should stay on low when ready to start cooking; I don't think you mentioned this, so I turned it up a bit. No problems, I just had to adjust both heat and time. One thing I did differently was to sprinkle some cornmeal in the bottom of the skillet as it didn't want to stick to the raw muffins very well. Thanks for the opportunity to learn another kitchen skill. This will surely impress my friends! God Bless you both.
You are a great baker husband for sure. I am definitely trying this recipe. I love English muffins. Great job!
I love a man who can cook, you kill it Kevin, Sarah is so lucky♥️
Oh I can't wait try them. My dad passed away November 2019. I moved back home to take care of my mom. We both love english muffins. I will have to try making them. But I will try using the opening of a jar to cut them.
Those are so good! I am making another batch for fishing this weekend! Thank you for a great recipe! If I can make these anyone can!

Thank you so much. I am excited now that I know how to look back and watch older videos.
Thank you for letting us know about your baking board, I went to Lowe's and bought a piece of oak plywood and I cut it to the size I wanted, then I rounded the corners and found a food-safe oil to rub it in to protect it. I absolutely love it.
