Everyone hating on this show has to remember this is recorded on a mobile phone and it's only pickup up the lowest of the lows and highest of highs. Yeah, Rob struggles to sing this kind of stuff live, but when you're there in person you can hear his harmony tracks and such, and the mix doesn't actually sound like it was one by an emo highschool kid. Same thing happened on the Firepower tour and when I went to see them in person on like their second show of the tour it sounded phenomenal.

For those being harsh to this performance and to those defending it - neither of you is wrong honestly. The truth of the matter is that they do sadly sound rough here, and I wanted to try to break down a tiny bit why, I honestly don't have more time beyond this.
The band is surprisingly loose for a new song. For starters, it seems like everyone was out of sorts after the synth intro bit ends. Scott Travis is on it basically the whole time, as is Ian Hill, but something happens with the guitars, someone is clearly not quite on it at first, and he falls off a few times again throughout (there may be one point where its Faulkner, but my ears aren't always the best and I only have bad laptop speakers). I wonder if they rushed the rehearsal for this for some reason, because it seems less tight than usual for them IMHO. Not to say its a trainwreck by any means, but there are a few bum notes and off time bits that I wouldn't typically expect from Priest. Could just be the nerves and excitement of the new material too, its gotta be a lot of nerves to be playing it live.
Rob Halford sadly doesn't sound strong on this tune as a starter. At his age, they should at least give him the mercy that Robert Plant got from Zeppelin when his voice started to go - give him a leaping off point song. For Plant, it was Rock and Roll from 73 through 75 (they threw that out for 77-80 but Bonzo and Page were fried by then anyways). For Dave Mustaine (as another example, and a unique one, as he had cancer in his throat), he seems to always start with Hangar 18 or a newer comfortable range song now a days. Stuff he knows he can comfortably do early in the set. Halford is out here in his mid 70s still trying to raw dog that shit like he's 35. He doesn't sound bad the whole time here, but it leaves more to be desired than previous tours opening songs (on verses in particular he's very clearly struggling with pitch and breath). With Firepower, I feel like he was always able to come out swinging because the song isn't so tough on him vocally. On 50 Heavy Metal Years, Out in the Cold served as a nice easing in for Rob Halford, as his voice can warm up more. Here, the melody is much more complex than any of the openers for the past six years or so. He has to get a lot more out a lot faster, all with less air to work with than he would as a younger guy, even just back in his 60s. He's likely used to feeling a little gassed on some of the older stuff and working around it since coming back, but Idk if he expected to struggle so much here. I personally expected a rough start, but jeez.
THAT BEING SAID....: it *is* a brand-new song, and I honestly expect a few more bumpy debuts (on Halfords part in particular). The material is more challenging to play compared to a lot of previous works going as far back as probably Stained Class, and going back as far as Screaming for Vengeance and the likes for Halford vocally. I'm sure he can mostly still go on a dime in a studio environment, but for a 2 hour live show, they may want to consider a different opener. Theres plenty of time for new songs, as strong as they are. They really put together a surprise of an album for so late in their career and to boot without the input of KK. I get people being sad about him not being back, I am too, but its still Priest. He left. On his own accord. I'm sorry, it legally is still Judas Priest, and it sounds and looks like them ("if it looks acts and quacks like a duck..."), it has two OG members (one being arguably the most important other than a guitar player - the vocals) and one 30+ year vet, and Glenn is still clearly active in the songwriting, even if he can't technically play what he writes.. Plus, Richie has been in for 12 years now (nearly died on stage too). Its fun to see them still doing it and enjoying the time they have with it.
Overall, it is bumpy, but I think with some more runs in a live setting, these songs will settle in with the band, and Halford will find his way around the new stuff and get comfy the way he usually does on tours. He always has a bad show or two to start off for the past few tours. I'd say going back to 2010 even.

Priest seemed a bit off a few times(and yes it's 1st night of tour). Good show but a venue the size of the Hydro badly needs the video cameras to be working from the get go. Apart from a couple of minutes an hour in, they were off all night. Ok it doesn't alter the sound but when the cameras ARE working, you feel like you are all in the front row or on the stage and just adds to the atmosphere. Also, Halford leaving the stage and going behind the curtains every couple of songs? Wtf was that all about? and as for it sounding "not bad for the first song of the first show, itll get better" that's all fine and well but the Glasgow audience are forking out the same dosh as Birmingham, London and Paris. For that money it should be perfect from the first power chord.

Wow, Rob sounds horrible live. The studio certainly tuned his voice for the album recording with heavy auto tune. The guy needs to quit while he is ahead 😮

Rob surely does not care about what Nauta says 😂

😂if u think this is 'horrible',, u mustn't heard his off nights in the 1980s 1990s 2000s lol... imo this is one of his recent finer performance.. and frankly I just don't see him getting any better ~

Really love them, new record is amazing, they are (with Iron Maiden) my favourite band but…this performance isn’t good. Rob’s voice is gone. Still legend anyway.
