Hell, Fire And Damnation is an album which sees Saxon investigate all areas of history and mystery amidst ten of their most confident and thunderously powerful songs yet. In “Madame Guillotine”, lead singer and founding member Biff Byford, chooses to give voice to the infamous torturing device, best known for its use in the French Revolution between 1789 and 1799.
“Both this and the title track songs are written by me and Brian actually, and this is very ‘Saxon’, so much as I don’t think anybody else could pull that off,” comments Byford. “I sung it as if the guillotine is a person, that the actual guillotine has a bit of a conscience. I love the groove, it’s got a great groove!”

Them and Judas Priest are both impressive right now. It seems there is a wave of these 80's bands making a comeback. I know Priest started in the 70's and it's possible Saxon did too. I also see that Accept has a new one and Priest offshoot KK's Priest as well.

@@davidmccourt8174 It was a long tine ago no doubt, but the real forefathers are late 60's.Ten years earlier. Led Zeppelin 1 was 1969, Black Sabbath's first record was either 69or 70. And people always sat Deep Purple too as a founding heavy metal band. The are called the Unholy Trinity, Sabbath, Zeppelin and Deep Purple.
Saxon and the rest were the New Wave of British heavy metal, but the forefathers are a little older. Judas Priest started with a label deal I think back in 74 the album Rocka Rolla, has the distortion sound heavy.
So many older bands are showing us that they still got it. Great song.

Picked up my vinyl copy today. Went to buy the new Priest record and it was out of stock, but I grabbed this absolute gem on the way out.
Invincible Shield is a killer album! I haven't listened to the new Saxon record, but I'll definitely give it a listen when I get some free time.

Just saw Saxon at Tampa's Hard Rock Event Center (with Uriah Heep). They gave an incredible performance and played this song. I was very impressed by the musicianship and singing. I never paid much attention to them in the past, but I became a fan yesterday.

Absolutly! AND I 'm Saxon-Fan since 1988. AND in October 2022 live and it was sooo great like in 1990.
I had heard of Saxon for years as a pro metal drummer but never bothered to explore them until two years ago. They were a playlist mainstay during countless hours of gaming and are now my second favorite metal band behind Judas Priest. The classics have serious sentimental value to me and they're sadly underappreciated in the states.
