Pentatonix puts a great New sound to Simon and Garfunkel song that they wrote after the cold war with Cuba. I can still remember the 'duck and cover' training we as children went through to prevent being blinded by a nuclear blast, and protecting our eyes from exploding school glass windows. That time is past, but now we have a leader of another country having trial runs with launching missiles. A song for a new generation about seeing an atomic blast with hundredsof thousands walking without seeing, hearing and songs that will never be shared with only words written on subway walls and tenement halls to remind us of what humanity has done in the past. They will be seen by future generations As Words of the Prophets. As vital as it was then, still as vital now. Pentatonix really rocks to have this message told.
Y'know they're basically just showing off at this point. The way they can hit perfect chords like it's nothing, the way they can sing in perfect unison like one person is singing through them all, the way the 'dums' at the beginning were so perfectly coordinate that it sounded flawless. Then they pack all that emotion in and hit us in the forehead with it. What a great group
Scott has the greatest range. When the Matt or Avi were singing he was doing bass and he has a great high range. I still think Mitch has the smoothest voice. :)
PENTATONIX are truly awesome , voice ranges are incredible ! All superb in their right but Scott is my favourite , so versatile , love his bass ! Best Acapella group ever!😘
Hi, Brad, thanks for sharing this with us! As a singer and song writer you can really appreciate how brilliant the arrangements are for some of PTX best tracks. I've been amazed by Scott's vocal range since someone pointed out that he covered the bass line in Hallelujah when Avi Kaplan was doing the solo; at the other end of it check out their cover of Ariana Grande's problem where he takes the high lead away from both Mitch and Kirsti with a killer head voice (although Mitch rapping on the track is something to behold and Kirsti looks as good as she sounds in blond hair). The way they move between unison and multi-part harmony to provide emphasis, their swells, all of the amazing bag of tricks they bring to each work is stunning, even more so when you realize that they create those arrangements organically between the five members without a full time arranger or composer to assist (okay, they get a little help now and again from Ben Bram of Glee, but c'mon). Have a great day and stay healthy (and sane - that's seems to be the harder part these days). Cheers!
🧡 Pentatonix ! Simon and Garfunkel created and made this song a classic, but PTX took it to a whole other level. Hey, Brad, you've done a great number of PTX covers, but you've missed one of the BEST they've ever done: "Bohemian Rhapsody." What's up with that? Don't walk. Run! Thanks, Brad. Love your reactions. For the love of music - Peace.
I very much appreciate you letting the whole song play before going back to give thoughts... Makes it all so much more enjoyable! This song really highlights Scott and Matt and rightly so! Matt's verse was mind-blowing!
What really amazes me is how almost everyone is failing to see the bloke on the right!..He does not do a solo..But this man is a human beatbox!..Said it before, get him into a studio, throw out the junk electronics..And install him!
CONGRATULATIONS, YOU REALLY KNOW HOW TO REACT TO THIS WONDER, YOU DID NOT STOP BUT GAVE US ALL THE EMOTIONS THAT THIS MASTERPIECE BROUGHT IN YOU. THAT IS HOW PEOPLE SHOULD REACT TO PERFECTION. NOT STOPING EVERY MINUTE. THANK YOU!
I love lower voices, and I love your commentary about it. That's especially true on this one since the song depends so much on harmony to work. I've always loved Scott because he's such a solid singer, but his intro here made me fangirl.
😀👍 I really ENJOY your PENTATONIX reactions. Scott's range is AMAZING .... All these members (including Avi are SUPER TALENTED) And YES!! They set the bar VERY HIGH all vocal groups out there... DEFINITE TRAILBLAZERS!!...MORE PENTATONIX REACTIONS!! 🙏🙏
I know I'm gonna get hate for this, but I truly believe that Matt is the most technically developed singer out of PTX (and Avi in the old lineup). Great lows, great highs among many other things. He could probably sing both bass, lead and tenor without much trouble.
I totally agree!!! Matt has been kinda bashed as not being as good of bass as Avi since he joined but I think that he definitely is a really good bass, but just in different ways than Avi. I agree, no one can replace what Avi could do, but no one can replace what Matt can do either in my opinion. And yes Matt totally rocks some tenor notes in this song!!!
I’d like to point out that he’s the only member of the group who completed a 4 yr music degree. (I know Avi studied opera, but I never heard if he had a degree or what it was in, if he did have one.)
Chris Pavlich I never said otherwise. But I think it helped Matt step into Avi’s shoes and be on equal footing with the more experienced members of PTX, while being younger than Mitch by...what, a year and half?
It’s such a rudimentary, timeless song, and there have been many covers of it, of which all have been phenomenal. I would recommend that you also check out Tim Faust and Peter Hollens version, as well as the incredibly profound version by Disturbed.
Loved, loved your reaction to this performance. The richness of the solos and the power of the harmonies just took this song from great to among the best ever. Gorgeous!
I watched it many times and did not know (even that it is logical) that while Matt goes high, Scott is holding the low line... And that's just silly good
I absolutely love the way you react to these videos! I appreciate your knowledge of music and singing! Your facial expressions during the song make me laugh! Keep up the great work Brad!
Fun fact: when Matt has his solo, Scott takes over the bass. I would like to see your reaction to Nick Pitera in his One Man Phantom of the Opera medley and his One Man Disney Movie.
Very Leonard Cohen type vocal range in the beginning, then it’s almost like a Christmas Carol and jungle drum beats are sick!❤️ Love it! W O W 🤯😳 I keep hearing more layers and I’m 💀
Now you should check out Sound of Silence by Peter Hollens and Tim Foust. Aside from the amazing vocals, be sure to check the pose at the end of the video. It is a great flashback to the original album cover.
It's interesting that you say they influenced you, because the first time I watched one of your reaction videos (Dimash), when I listened to the musical intro to your reaction, I thought it sounded like Pentatonix.
Scott has always had an amazing range. He did the same thing in Hallelujah when Avi took the lead. And I know how much trouble I'm about to get in (sorry Pentaholics) but I am starting to realize that Matt is a better singer overall than Avi.
I don't know about that. Matt is a great singer but there are a few things that set them apart, and in my opinion, make Avi the better singer. Matt's lower range doesn't project as much as Avi's does. I'm always having to strain to hear Matt, but Avi's voice pierces through easily, filling out the low end more fully than Matt can. Avi can sing overtones, two notes at once, which Matt cannot. This added a 6th voice to the group, filling out the top end when they wanted more harmonies, while not losing the bass. Avi also has a wider singing range than Matt, and I believe he beats him on both ends, the low end especially. Matt does have a soulful voice, but so does Avi, who I think has a richer, warmer tone that can melt even the coldest heart. These are, of course, merely my own opinions and observations. I like Matt. I'm not saying he's terrible or that they should have chosen someone else. It would be impossible to fill Avi's shoes, he's one-of-a-kind. I just miss what Avi brought to the songs that I feel are now somewhat lacking.
I will say I love the blend of matt and scott's voices. Especially in can you feel the love tonight. Matt's voice adds something different to the groups overall sound and I like it. Although his bass doesn't project as much as Avi's, it still sounds so good with the group. And so what if Matt can't sing overtones... they're doing just fine without it.
I wouldn’t say one is a better singer than the other. Because I find them both equally talented and beautiful. But, I think Matt fits in better with the group than Avi. His energy and tone fits the pop sound they are going for more. Whilst, Avi is doing amazing singing his own music as a solo artist.
Would love you to react to the Hobbit Drinking Medley by Peter Hollens ft Hank Green. It’s hilarious! And Hank is a surprisingly good singer if you don’t follow his personal channel
Hi Brad! Loved your reaction, your personality shines! I've subscribed and did all that stuff, can't wait to see more. Brad I would like to ask you to react to a vocalist named Dimash Kudiabergen. You will NEVER recover from watching him. He is often referred to as the Best Singer in the World!! On his channel find the song SOS at Bastau. Dimash is from Kazakhstan, 26 yrs old. He has a 6 octive range, 20 yrs. of classical training.....etc. Please check this out and brace yourself for your channel to explode! I believe you deserve this experience, you are very real and talented. Thank you for sharing your skills.
I could see in your facial expression that the low note hit you, but from what you said I’m not sure you realized it was Matt who dropped an octave on the word “sound” at the end of his verse.
Normal People When They Get Dumped: Sit in there room forever not doing anything. Brad Steele When He Gets Dumped: Writes a song, records it, and is very productive.
Brad, I hope you will give this amazing Canadian/Belgian vocalist a listen. I know its in French but her voice just transcends everything. She records in French, English, Dutch, Italian and Spanish as was the voice of Esmeralda in Disney's French Hunchback. Just AMAZING! Enjoy! ua-cam.com/video/dVvlmpo5g9k/v-deo.html
I'm not a big fan of PTX but they do their thing very well and you really can't compare them to any other accapella group. Every group has their own lane. PTX is known for doing pop and doing it well. Home Free my favorite leans towards Country with a side of pop, soul and humor. Voice Play was on the sing off with Home Free .... so I got to see them preform. I enjoyed seeing them and I've watched some of they're videos. They're bass singer Geoff did the arrangement of Elvira for The Oakridge Boys and Home Free. I have several songs by PTX and Superfruit, but Home Free is it for me and I'm very happy that you share them with us also. Stay safe and have a great evening
If you like Kevin from Pentatonix you should check out the video of him at age 17 at Carnegie Hall in a program called from the top I think you will be pleasantly surprised
I love your reaction ❤️❤️❤️ Please react to "Good Morning Quarantine", it is the song that Kirstie did on her Instagram page instagram.com/tv/B_qAKjVHl3f/ Believe me it's sooo good, and also very relatable 😅

"you're a mean one, mr Grinch" listen to that one!!! Matt sings the lead and OH MY GOD
MilyRixs YES!!! God the first time I heard that only surpassed by watching the video. His smile the whole time.
I LOVE THAT SONG!!!!
YEEEESSSS!!!!! Matt does an AWESOME job!! He's got a great voice, charisma, EVERYTHING!
that song is so underrated 😭😭😭💖💖💖
Small Town Titan's version of Mr. Grinch is my ultimate favorite cover lol
PTX is so good... I don’t think I’ll ever stop loving them
Why would anyone want to stop loving them?
Leslie Albrecht idk if they started producing terrible music then I probably would, but they haven’t shown any evidence of that happening, really.
I miss Avi though 😩

Goosebumps EVERY time I hear this version of this song. Love it!

Actually Mitch has an octave more than Scott.

I like that you called them Trailblazers - it is true.
🧡 Pentatonix !

PTX is sooooo goooood!!!!! This song always gives me chills!
I’m so glad you played the whole song and not keep cutting in. THANK YOU 🙏
Masterpiece.
And Scott also takes on Mitch's harmonies when Mitch is singing !
I swear I get goosebumps with Kirstin everytime
Be goofy and live your life. EXACTLY! !!
I agree with you. I think this song is my #1 fav. by them. They took it to another level. So amazing.
This is easily in my top 5
They are soooooo powerful! I get chills every time I hear them!
WOW !!!! Spectacular.
I very much appreciate you letting the whole song play before going back to give thoughts... Makes it all so much more enjoyable!

Thank you for bringing up Scott's range.
Ah Pentatonix! One of the best versions of this song I have ever heard. Love them to pieces. Great reaction!
"That was an experience" - that is what makes PTX different from everyone else.
I just realized that when Matt sings the words, Scott is doing the bass.
Definitely my favourite PTX cover!
If you haven't already, please react to their mash-up during Quarantine called Home.
Love Pentatonix. I agree with everything you just said.

Kristin Howk Mitch is the only one who never went to college at all and he can carry his own.

Loved, loved your reaction to this performance. The richness of the solos and the power of the harmonies just took this song from great to among the best ever. Gorgeous!
Your loving PTX is what made me subscribe!!!
No one can touch PTX!
I watched it many times and did not know (even that it is logical) that while Matt goes high, Scott is holding the low line... And that's just silly good
Pentaholic here. You’ve got some good reviews on them, good enough to subscribe!
♥️
Great reaction! Thank you for not interrupting the song. :-)
I've said this before, I'll say it again. I'm a simple girl- I see PTX reactions, I like and sub.
I fee like this is one of there best covers since hallelujah.
I absolutely love the way you react to these videos! I appreciate your knowledge of music and singing! Your facial expressions during the song make me laugh! Keep up the great work Brad!
I think Scott's Bass is underappreciated. When Avi was around I think he got all the credit, but you can hear a double bass in a lot of their songs.
I had that exact same reaction at the part where they went unison 😀🤭
Not gonna lie, I would be fine just listening to Scott sing this the whole time.
Great reaction! I agree with all your thoughts on this song being their best cover. My favorite too.
They are so talented, truly god given talent to them all i loved their live concert i went to as well
Me too. Been a Pentatonix ghost for quite awhile now.. ♥️
Oh !So fricking beautiful!!!❤️❤️❤️
Fun fact: when Matt has his solo, Scott takes over the bass.
I would like to see your reaction to Nick Pitera in his One Man Phantom of the Opera medley and his One Man Disney Movie.
Or the Les Miserables medley
Very Leonard Cohen type vocal range in the beginning, then it’s almost like a Christmas Carol and jungle drum beats are sick!❤️ Love it! W O W 🤯😳 I keep hearing more layers and I’m 💀

Now you should check out Sound of Silence by Peter Hollens and Tim Foust. Aside from the amazing vocals, be sure to check the pose at the end of the video. It is a great flashback to the original album cover.
or Disturbed's version, very different but equally powerfull, highlighting the lyrics in a way I never experienced.
I feel like you would love their live version of Silent Night
It's interesting that you say they influenced you, because the first time I watched one of your reaction videos (Dimash), when I listened to the musical intro to your reaction, I thought it sounded like Pentatonix.
Finally! Someone who reacts like I do during awesomeness. Lmao
Great reaction more Pentatonix please
Glad i discovered this channel!
Would have loved to see Matt and Avi in the group together.
Omg. Did you ever watch them on the sing off? If not you should totally do reaction to the singoff performances. The progression they have is so good.

For a bit of contrast you ought to do the cover of this song by Disturbed (although the chances you haven't heard it already are pretty small).
tomi p's sound of silence is really good too.
i love how you don't pause the video....good job brotha
If you want something "new" to react to, I highly recommend Loïc Nottet - Million Eyes
